INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONSGeneral InformationThe 5804BDV is a four-button wireless key that permits theuser to control the alarm system remotely.  It is a two-waydevice that can send a command to the alarm system, suchas to arm or disarm, as well as receive status back.Status is indicated by two bi-color status LEDs and apiezoelectric sounder. Each button can be programmed forany zone response type, but is typically used for arming,disarming, panic, and output relay operation.1. The 5804BDV must be used in conjunction withone of the following:• 5800TM (Transmitter Module) and a 5881or5881EN*receiver.• 6128RF receiver.• Lynx control panel.2. Place the 5881 or 5881EN receiver and the5800TM Transmitter Module in a high, centrallylocated area for best reception.  The 5800TMmodule must be located between 1 and 2 feetfrom the receiver.*Must be used to activate High-Security mode.The unit is powered by 2 replaceable Lithium batteriesdesigned to provide up to 2 years of life. These batteries aresupplied with the unit but not installed (see “To Install/ReplaceBatteries” for more information).5804BDV Front View      Belt ClipLoop Assignments:• Button A =>Loop 3 • Button B =>Loop 2• Button C =>Loop 4 • Button D =>Loop 1Note:To Remove or Insert the Unit from Belt ClipTo Install / Replace Batteries1. Remove the screw from the case back.2. Remove case back by using the blade of a smallscrewdriver to pry open.3. Place batteries in case back locations (see diagram). UseCR2430 or DL2430 Lithium battery only.4. Close the case by snapping case front and backtogether.5. Replace the screw to secure the case.WARNING!Improperly installing the batteries will causedamage to the batteries.Programming the 5804BDV House IDYou must program a House ID number into the unit beforeyou can use it to display the system status.  The House IDnumber must be same as the one used in the alarmcontrol. The House ID must be in the range of 01 to 31.  Thedefault in the 5804BDV is 10.To Enter a House ID1. Enter House ID mode by pressing the “A,” “B,” and “C”buttons at the same time until the Red and Green LEDsalternate flashing.2. Enter the House ID number by using the “A” button toenter the 10’s digit and the “B” button to enter the 1’sdigit. Note: If the entry is out of range (greater than 31),the unit will discard the entry.3. Accept the entry by pressing the “D” button.4. The unit displays the stored number by flashing the leftLED for the 10’s digit and flashing the right LED for the1’s digit (for example, for House ID 21, the left LED willflash twice, the right LED will flash once).5. The unit will then exit the House ID mode.Example:  To enter House ID # 17 into the unit:     5804BDVTWO-WAY WIRELESS KEY WITH VOICE STATUSEnter HID mode:Press A + B + Cbuttons until LEDsflash.Enter HID # 17: Press& release A buttononce, press & releaseB button 7 times.To accept entry, pressD button.1 2 3 4HID will be shownby flashing LEDs.Then exit HIDmode.K3635V1  5/00
– 2 –To View the House ID1. Enter House ID mode as described in step 1 (previouspage).2. Depress the “D” button to view.3. The unit will display the stored number as described instep 4 (previous page). The unit will then exit House IDmode.Programming a House ID in the AlarmControl• On VISTA-40, 50P, 100, and above, use DeviceProgramming mode to enable the RF receiver and enterthe House ID number.• On VIA-30PSE, VISTA-20SE, and below, go to field ✶24and enter the House ID number.Programming the ButtonsEach 5804BDV is assigned a unique serial number duringmanufacture.  Each button on the unit also has a unique“loop” number that must be programmed into the alarm controlduring installation. Assign each button to an individual zonenumber and program the Input Type as “BR” (Button TypeRF) by entering “5” in the control’s Zone Programming mode.Then, input the serial number by one of the followingmethods:• Transmit twice from the device by pressing one of thebuttons when prompted for the serial number.• Enter the serial number manually through the keypad.• Enter the serial number through V-LINK or Compassdownloader software as applicable.Be sure to include the loop number of each button duringprogramming (see loop assignments on previous page).NOTE: Do not use the 5804BDV for 24-hour silent alarm, asthe unit itself is not silent.Button CIf you choose not to use the “C” button, you must do thefollowing to avoid a  “Check” condition when the button isaccidentally pressed:1. Assign this button to a zone.2. After the serial number has been programmed, re-enterZone Programming for that zone.3. At the “Zone Type” prompt, enter 00 and press [✶].a) On VIA-30 controls and below, the system will askwhether you want to permanently delete that zone.Enter 0 (No).  This will cause the system to retain theserial number, but render the button inactive.b) On VISTA-40 and above, continue to press [✶] untilyou see the “Enter Zone No?” prompt again.  At thispoint, Press 00 and [✶]. Then press ✶99 to exitProgram mode.On VISTA-40 and AboveIf a button is assigned to zone type 20 (Arm Stay), 21 (ArmAway), or 22 (Disarm), you must assign a user to the button inorder for it to operate.To assign a user number to the Arm/Disarm button:1. Enter [4-digit User Code] + 8 + [User No.] + [4-digit newUser Code].2. Answer Yes or No to the “Open/Close Report?” question.3. Answer Yes to the “RF Button?” question.4. Enter the zone number assigned to the Arm/Disarmbutton. The keypad will show the summary of userinformation on its display.5. Test the Arm/Disarm button to make sure it operatescorrectly.Activating High-Security ModeIn order to activate this device in High-Securitymode you must use a 5881EN receiver.1. Program the 5804BDV in Zone Programming mode asusual.2. After programming the unit, exit Zone Programmingmode.3. Enter Go/No Go mode at the control panel (see thecontrol panel Installation Instructions for specificinformation.)4. Press and hold the “B”, “C”, and “D” buttons at the sametime until the unit’s red and green LEDs flash alternately.The 5804BDV transmits a special signal to the receiver.After 2 seconds, the unit will shut down. The unit is nowin High-Security mode.After activating High-Security mode, Whenever abutton on the unit is pressed, the left yellow LEDflashes to indicate that the unit is in High-Securitymode. If the left yellow LED does not flash when abutton is pressed, repeat steps 3 and 4 above.Deactivating High-Security ModePress and hold the “A”, “C”, and “D” buttons at the same timeuntil the unit’s red and green LEDs flash alternately. After 2seconds the 5804BDV will shut down and is no longer inHigh-Security mode. When the unit is not in High-Securitymode, pressing any button will cause the right yellow LED toflash.Adjusting Volume LevelThis unit is shipped with the volume set to the lowest level. Toadjust the volume, proceed as follows:1. Enter the Volume Level Programming mode by pressingand holding the “A”, “B”, and “D” buttons simultaneouslyuntil the unit’s red and green LEDs flash alternately.Note that if no button is pressed for 5 seconds the unitwill automatically shut down and no change to the volumelevel is made.a. Press the “A” button for low volume level, orb. Press the “B” button for medium volume level, orc. Press the “C” button for maximum volume level. Atone will be heard for the volume level.2.    Press the “D” to accept.Volume level affects the life of the battery. Use lowvolume for maximum battery life.
