These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. IC Class B compliance This device complies with the Class B limits for radio noise emissions as set out in the interference-causing equipment standard entitled “Digital Apparatus”, ICES-003 of Industry Canada Important safety information Remember to follow any special regulations governing the use of the MIST FREEDOM II-C and always switch it off in areas where radio devices are forbidden, or when it may cause interference or danger. Any safety laws and regulations pertaining to the use of cell phones and two-way radios will likely apply to your use of the POS. We encourage you to follow such laws and regulations at all times. In particular, please observe all restrictions on the use of radio equipment in fuel depots (fuel storage and distribution areas), chemical plants, where blasting operations are in progress or in any other area in which restrictions on radio transmissions are imposed. The MIST FREEDOM II-C is not an FAA-approved electronic device for use on aircraft. Switch off the POS when in an aircraft. The effect of the use of the POS in an aircraft is unknown. Such use may affect aircraft instrumentation, communication and performance, may disrupt the network, and may be illegal. Operation of any radio transmitting equipment, including the POS, may interfere with the functionality of inadequately protected medical devices, including pacemakers. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of the medical device if you have any questions. Additionally, the effect of the radio signals from the POS on other electronic systems, including those in your car (such as electronic fuel-injection systems, electronic anti-skid braking systems, and electronic cruise-control systems) is unknown and malfunction of these systems may result. Avoid using the POS in any environment requiring your full attention, such as when driving a vehicle. Do not use any accessory that is not manufactured or supplied by MIST or an authorized MIST accessories supplier. Use of any accessory that is not supplied or approved for use by MIST is not permitted. Use only those battery types specified in this User’s Guide. The use of any other may disable the POS and may be dangerous. Failure to observe all these instructions will void the Limited Warranty, and may lead to suspension or denial of services to the offender, or legal action, or both. We are confident that the MIST FREEDOM II-C you purchased will meet your exacting world-class quality standards. MIST FREEDOM IIC is a small, hand-held, wireless electronic transaction terminal that communicates with a remote host computer via the wireless network. MIST FREEDOM II allows several modem options for communicating to different network systems, such as CDPD, Mobitex, and DataTAC modem. MIST’s goal is to design and build POS (Point of Sales) devices with complete customer satisfaction in mind. To help ensure trouble free operation of your device, please spend a few minutes to read this manual carefully and follow its recommendations. Alphanumeric Keys: Enter number inputs. Battery: Ni-Mh, 7.2V, 6AA, 1450mAh Battery Pack Belt Knob Screw Hole: Installs the Belt Knob. Power Jack: Provides the connection for a 9V DC, 1A Output Unregulated Adapter. Card Reader: Reads magnetic tracks from a card. Maintenance and Safety Information Please avoid exposure to following environment excessive heat, or direct sunlight (your device may be permanently damaged by extended exposure to direct sunlight.) excessive cold (please keep your device between 0°C and 40°C) excessive electrical noise (such as mobile phone, motors and modem.) sensitive electronic equipment and potentially explosive atmosphere (such as hospitals, health care facilities, aircraft, and gas stations) 13 Maintenance and Safety Information And please avoid the following actions. Immersing the device in water. Opening the device or replace any component. (You will loose your software.) Using the device with a damaged antenna. (If your device has any problem, you must contact your local sales representative or technical support immediately.) Keep all flames, sparks, and lit smoking materials away from the battery. 14 Power Information Battery MIST FREEDOM II-C use NiMH 7.2V, 6AA Battery Pack. (Please use only batteries provided by MIST.) Battery Installation 1. Pull the battery door downward to open. 2. Insert the battery in the device. (Ensure the metal contacts touch) 3. Close the battery door. 15 Power Information Battery Maintenance New battery’s full performance is achieved only after two or three complete charge and discharge cycles. Keep the devices and batteries clean and dry. Protect against a short circuit when the battery is not installed in the device. If the device will not be used for and extended time, take the battery out of the device. All rechargeable batteries have a limited life. If a fully charged battery no longer provides an acceptable performance, please replace with a new battery from MIST. 16 Power Information DC Adapter MIST FREEDOM II-C can also use 9V, 1A Output Unregulated DC Adapter. *Please use only adapters provided by MIST. Use of other power sources may result in damage to your unit. Using the DC Adapter and the Internal Charger Using the DC Adapter, you can plug your POS device directly into a power supply and charge attached batteries. If you turn off the device, the internal charger will charge the batteries automatically. If you turn on the device, charging will take more time. Charging will stop during radio transmission and printing. 1. Plug the DC adapter into the power source. 2. Plug the DC adapter into the Power Jack on the bottom of the device. 17 Connection Connecting to the Serial Port Plug the Serial Cable into the Serial Port on the bottom of the device, and plug the other end of the Serial Cable into the peripheral in use. * When unplugging the Serial Port from the device, please press the Release Tabs to release the hooks. 18 Operating the Integrated Printer Integrated Thermal Printer MIST FREEDOM II-C integrates a thermal printer for the user to print receipt. 1. Press Paper Feed Button (on the top of the Display) to make the printer sensor standby 60 sec for paper insert. 2. Open the Paper Door at the back of the device. 19 Operating the Integrated Printer 3. Insert the paper in the gap of the paper entrance. 4. The sensor will feed the paper in the printer automatically. Make sure that the paper is overted as shown above as the thermal paper will work only in one direction. (If you do not see any printing, the paper is in backwards, re-insert the other way around.) Do not try to pull paper through the printer manually. If you want to eject paper from the device, you must cut the paper from the paper roll, and press the paper feed key to eject the rest of paper in the device. 20 Accessories MIST Inc. provides a useful accessory for your MIST FREEDOM II-C. They can help you to improve the efficiency of your work. Belt Clip and Belt Knob (AZF-2000) By using a belt knob and a belt clip, the MIST Freedom II can be attached to the belt. Vehicle Charger MIST Freedom II can be charged in vehicle with a Vehicle Charger. (may not be exactly as shown) 21
