Notification to the Local Telephone Company On the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other information, the US number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment. You must, upon request, provide this information to your telephone company. The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of these devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephone company. A plug and jack used to connect this equipment to the premises wiring and telephone network must comply with the applicable FCC Part 68 rules and requirements adopted by the ACTA. A compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this product. It is designed to be connected to a compatible modular jack that is also compliant. See installation instructions for details. ensure the installation of this product does not disable your alarm equipment. If you have questions about what will disable alarm equipment, consult your telephone company or a qualified installer. US Number is located on the cabinet bottom. Notes 1.2 Rights of the Telephone Company Should your equipment cause trouble on y our line which may harm the telephone network, the telephone company shall, where practicable, notify you that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant such action, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue service immediately. In case of such temporary discontinuance, the telephone company must: (1) promptly notify you of such temporary discontinuance; (2) afford you the opportunity to correct the situation; and (3) inform you of your right to bring a complaint to the Commission pursuant to procedures set forth in Subpart E of Part 68, FCC Rules and Regulations. The telephone company may make changes in its communications facilities, equipment, operations or procedures where such action is required in the operation of its business and not inconsistent with FCC Rules and Regulations. If these changes are expected to affect the use or performance of your telephone equipment, the telephone company must give you adequate notice, in writing, to allow you to maintain uninterrupted service. • This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone company. • Party lines are subject to state tariffs, and therefore, you may not be able to use your own telephone equipment if you are on a party line. Check with your local telephone company. • Notice must be given to the telephone company upon permanent disconnection of your telephone from your line. • If your home has specially wired alarm equipment connected to the telephone line, 1.3 Interference Information This equipment generates and uses radio frequency energy which may interfere with residential radio and television reception if not properly installed and used in accordance with instructions contained in this manual. Reasonable protection against such interference is ensured, although there is no guarantee this will not occur in a given installation. The user may also wish to consult a qualified radio/ television technician for additional suggestions. This equipment has been fully tested and complies with all limits for Class B computing devices pursuant to part 15 FCC Rules and Regulations. This device complies with RSS-210 of Industry Canada. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause interference, and (2) This device must accept any interference, including interference that may cause undesired operation of the device. Notice: The changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. 1.4 Hearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) This telephone system meets FCC/Industry Canada standards for Hearing Aid Compatibility. 1.5 FCC RF Radiation Exposure Statement This equipment complies with FCC RF radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment. This equipment should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 centimeters between the radiator and your body. This transmitter must not be co-located or operated in conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter. For body worn operation, this phone has been tested and meets the FCC RF exposure guidelines when used with the belt clip supplied with this product. Use of other accessories may not ensure compliance with FCC RF exposure guidelines. It contains important information and notes regarding your phone. NOTICE: This product meets the applicable Industry Canada technical specifications. The equipment must be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations. Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment. Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe systems, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas. CAUTION: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate. NOTES: This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone company. 2.1 Power requirements • This product requires an electrical supply of 220-240 volts AC. In case of power failure, the communication can be lost. • The Electrical network is classified as hazardous. The only way to power down the charger is to unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet. Ensure that the electrical outlet is always easily accessible. • The voltage on the network is classified as TNV-3 (Telecommunication Network Voltages), as defined in the standard EN 60950. Important Warning To avoid damage or malfunction: • Do not allow the charging contacts or the battery to come into contact with metal objects. • Do not open it as you could be exposed to high voltages. • Do not allow the charger to come into contact with liquids. • Never use any other battery than the one delivered with the product or recommended by Philips: risk of explosion. • Always use the cables provided with the product. • Handsfree activation could suddenly increase the volume in the earpiece to a very high level: make sure the handset is not too close to your ear. • This equipment is not designed to make emergency calls when the power fails. An alternative has to be made available to allow emergency calls. • Do not expose the phone to excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight. • Do not drop your phone or allow objects to fall on your phone. • Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene, or abrasives as these may harm the set. • Do not use the product in places where there are explosive hazards. • Do not let small metal objects come into contact with the product. This can deteriorate audio quality and damage the product. • Active mobile phones in the vicinity may cause interference. About operating and storage temperatures: • Operate in a place where temperature is always between 0 and 35º C (32 to 95º F). • Store in a place where temperature is always between -20 and 45º C (-4 to 113º F). • Battery life may be shortened in low temperature conditions. 2.2 Conformity We, Philips declare that the product is in compliance with the essential requirements and SE745_IFU_EN.book Page 6 Monday, March 26, 2007 8:41 PM other relevant provisions of Directive 1999/5/EC. This product can only be connected to the analogue telephone networks of the countries mentioned on the packaging. You can find the Declaration of Conformity on www.p4c.philips.com. 2.3 Using GAP standard compliance The GAP standard guarantees that all DECTTM GAP handsets and base stations comply with a minimum operating standard irrespective of their make.Your handset and base station are GAP compliant, which means the minimum guaranteed functions are: register a handset, take the line, receive a call and dial.The advanced features may not be available if you use another handset than a SE740/ 745 with your base station. To register and use your SE740/745 handset with a GAP standard base station of a different make, first follow the procedure described in the manufacturer’s instructions, then follow the procedure described on page 32. To register a handset of another make to the SE740/745 base station, place the base station into registration mode (page 32), then follow the procedure in the manufacturer’s instructions. 2.4 Electric, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Fields ("EMF") 1.
