Model numbers shown indicate 2-wire leads. For 3-wire leads, change “1” to “4” after “HRE” in model number (Example: HRE412 50T).
Electric models are shipped wired for 3800 watt operation, which requires 20-amp fusing, minimum 12-gauge wire. Conversion to higher-output 5500
watt operation is easily accomplished with a part that is supplied with heater. 5500 watt operation requires 30-amp fusing, minimum 10 gauge wire.
All models available in Canada, add “CAN” to end of model number (Example: HRE112 40S CAN).

These minimum recommendations are based on a typical home with 2 full bathrooms,
a clothes washer, and a dishwasher. If you have more than 2 bathrooms, teenagers in
the family, or if you just feel your family uses a lot of hot water, you should select the

5500 watt operation – family size up to four

80 GALLON 3800 watt operation – family size up to five
5500 watt operation – family size up to seven

next largest size. In warm climates, however, the next smallest size may be right for
you, because the cold water supply is probably warmer than the national average. If
you have a whirlpool bath, capacity should be at least 2⁄3 of that tub. For example, for a
75-gallon tub, select a 50-gallon or larger Maytag Water Heater.
