1. PREPARING THE PHONE FOR USE
1.1 Attach the battery
Simply place the battery in the grooves on the back of the phone. Then slide the
battery upward until clicks.
1.2 Remove the battery
Note: Switch the phone off before removing the batteryl
. Press and hold the button at the top of the battery.
- Slide the battery toward the bottom of the phone.
- Lift the battery off the phone.
1.3 Charge the battery
(D Connect the lead from the charger to the bottom of the phone.
® Connect the charger to an AC wall outlet. The battery indicator bar starts to
scroll.
Note: If the battery is totally empty, it may take a few minutes before the
charging indication appears on the screen.
Tip: The phone can he used while charging if the phone is switched on.
Nate: Disconnect your phone from the charger if the phone becomes hot during a
call,
@ The battery is fully charged when the battery indicator bar stops scrolling, and
the Battery full text is briefly displayed if the phone is switched on. Charging
time depends on the charger and battery used.
(9 Disconnect the charger from the AC outlet and the phone.

3. ABOUT THE PHONE
This phone operates in digital mode within the 800 and 1900MHZ frequency bands and
operates in analog mode within the 800 MHz range.

3.2.7 Using the selection keys
The functions of the selection keys depend on the guiding texts shown above
the keys.
For example] when there is the text “Menu" above the ieft selection key , W
pressmg this key enters the menu functions.
Similarly, pressing the right selection key Q} under text “Na mes" has access
to phone book functions.
3.2.8 Using the scroll keys
The phone has two scroll keys, E’) and 6, located just below the screen.
The scroll keys have up and down arrows on them, press these to move
through the phone's menus and phone book.
3.3 About display indicators and icons
The display indicators and icons inform about the operation of the phone.
3.3.1 Start screen

3.3.2 Scroll bar
When you access the phone's menu, there is a scroll bar at the far
right of the screen. This bar indicates user's location in the menu:

each "tab" on the bar represents a different menu item.
3.4 Display messages
3.4.1 No service
If the phone is out side the wireless service area, “No Service” will display on
the display.
No calls can be made or received, including emergency calls.

3.4.2 Dialing
The phone is dialing the number shown in the dispiay.
3.4.3 Call Receive
The phone is receiving a call‘

The phone is waiting for service.

4. BASIC OPERATIONS
4.1 Switch the phone ON or OFF
. Press and hold the @ key for two seconds to switch on the phone until the
phone sounds a beep.
Note: If the phone has the vibrate alert option activated, the phone will also
briefly vibrate.
- To turn the phone off, press and hold @ key until the phone sounds a beep
and turns off.
4.2 Making a call
(D Enter the phone number including the area code.
The number is shown in the displayi
- The number user can edit a number on display.
- Press CLEAR to erase one or more digits in the display, or press and hold
CLEAR to erase all digits.
® Press ©. Calling is shown in the display while the phone accesses the
wireless network.
® Press @ to end the call (or to cancel the call attempt).
Note.- It is normal for the phone to become hot during use.
If the phone becomes too hot, it automatically drops the current call and returns
to the "start screen”. Until the phone cools, user will be unable to receive or make
calls.
4.3 Answering a call
When the phone receives a call, the ring tone sounds (unless the ring tone has
been disabled through the menus], the words Call Receive flash in the display,
the display and keypad back lighting are turned on.
(D Press ® to answer the call
® Press @ to end the call
4.4 Temporarily multing the ring tone
To temporarily mute the ring tone without answering the call, press either the
upper or lower side key, or press @. Call Receive is still shown in the
display. and user can still answer the call by pressing ®.
4.5 Adjusting the earpiece volume
User can adjust the earpiece volume while in a call (or at any time) by pressing
the top volume key on the upper left side of the phone to increase the volume, or
pressing the lower volume key to decrease the volume.
4.6 Last number redial
The phone can store up to 10 numbers of the most recently dialed numbers.
Stored numbers may be up to recently dialed numbers. Stored numbers may be
up to 28 digits long.
(D Press S to view the last dialed number.

4.7 Automatic redial
If user tries to place a call and the wireless network is not available, the phone
automatically redials the number every 10 seconds for a total of 10 times until the
call connects.
This feature attempts to redial numbers that are busy due to the wireless network.
See “Activating automatic redial" on page ------ .
4.8 Caller D
This is a network service that helps identify incoming calls. When caller ID is
active, the phone rnav display the caller’s phone number. The caller’s name may
also display if their name and number has been stored in the phone book (see
“Phone book” on page ----- ) or if the wireless network supports it.
If the wireless network doesn’t recognized the calling number, caller ID
unavailable displays. Also, Caller ID blocked may display if the calling
party has blocked caller 1D.
4.9 Voice privacy
Note: This feature may not be available in all wireless systems.
Used only in digital networks, voice privacy encrypts the voice channel so that
people cannot eavesdrop on the conversation.

4.9.1 To set voice privacy
- Press Menu .
- Press Select.
- Scroll to ON or OFF.
. Press OK.
Voice privacy becomes active only during a call and notifies user with a beep.
Voice Erivacy active also appears on the screen. If user turns this
feature on and voice privacy becomes inactive for any reason, the phone
displays Voice privacy not active and beeps.

5.1 About the menu
The menu allows user to use and personalize the phone,
The menus can be access by using the scroll keys.

Note: User can return to the previous menu level by press Back.

6. ENTERING LETTERS AND NUMBERS
The user can enter letters, as well as numbers, when storing information into the
phone by using the phone’s keypadt To enter letters, press the key associated with
the letter the user wish to enter until it appears on the screen (numbers also appear).
6.1 ABC mode
When user needs to enter letters into the phone, it mm
automatically switches to ABC made. All:
The phone displays the ABC icon to indicate that the m
phone is in ABC mode. It also displays when user is

While user is editing a name, the 6 scroll key moves the cursor to the left, and
the scrol key moves it to the right, Press Clear to correct any mistakes.
If user wishes to enter an empty space between characters, press 0 for each
space.
6.2 Changing letter case
Press the 9 key to switch between upper and lower case letters.
The ABC icon switches to abc to indicate user is using lower case.
6.3 Inserting punctuation symbols and special
characters (for storing name)
When in ABC mode, user can press the (*) key and the following special
characters appear. The user can use these characters when storing names in the
phone book.
Tip: If user wishes to access a special character that appears toward the end of
this list, press 63 for quicker access.
6.4 Inserting punctuation symbols and special
characters (for storing numbers)
The Following special characters are helpful when user store names to the phone
book. Press the (*) key once or repeatedly, depending on the character user will
to insert, and the following characters can be stored within the number sequence:
(pl creates a pause when a number is dialed; the digits located to the right of the
”p" are automatically sent as touch tones afier a 2.5 second pause.

7. PHONE BOOK
7.1 About the phone book
The user can store up to 200 numbers and associated names in the phone's
memory.

Stored numbers may be up to 32 digits long. -Phunehuuk i

The user cannot store identical names into the phone (i.e., John, John); make
sure that like names are somewhat different in the phone book (i.e., John,
Johnny).
Replace? followed by the currently stored name displays when storing a name
already in memory.
7.1.1 About the menus
The phone book has several menus from which you can choose.
Press Names and then scroll to the desired item:
. Search allows you to search for a specific name.
- New Entry allows you to enter new name and numbers.
. Options lets user choose the scrolling View, as well as to show
memory status.
. 1-touch dialing allows user to assign up to seven one-touch dial
locations.
Caller groups allows user to rename or change the ringing tone for a
caller group.
- Erase all lets user erase every name and number in your phone bock.
The user can erase one name and number at a time by pressing Details,
then Options when viewing a name already in the directory,

® Scroll to the desired item (for example, Add new).

® Enter a name at Name: if you wish (optional).

7.1.3 Scrolling View
There are three different options on how user can view the phone book.

- Negleflmmber displays Individual names and numbers stored in the user
directory. Only one name displays on the screen at a time, with the
corresponding phone number. Use the scroll keys to view other names,
- Name list shows all stored names in a scrolling list. Three names
appear at any given time. To view other names in the directory, scroll back
and forth through the list using the scroll keys. Name list is the default
setting.
0 Name only shows individual names only. To view other names, use the
scroll keys. The user can view the corresponding phone number by pressing
Details, then scrolling up or down.
7.1.4.1 Selecting your scrolling view

7.2 Saving names and numbers
® Press Names.
® Scroll to New Entry and press Select.
@ Enter the name using the keypad (use # to switch between upper and lower
case).

7.2.1 Changing a number stored with a name

® Enter the first few letters of the name for which you are searching and
press OK.

Note: If user selected the Name+number View of the phone book, Options
displays instead of Details.

© Scroll to edit and press Select.
® Press OK while the name is displayed, unless user wishes to change it If
so, press and hold Clear, re-enter the name and press OK.
Press and hold Clear to erase the number, or use the ® and 6 keys
to edit.
® Enter the new number.
® Press QK to save the new number.
7.2.2 Recalling numbers
(0 At the Start Screen, press ® or ® to View names in the directory.
(2 Scroll to the person the user wishes to call and press ® to dial the
number (the phone displays the number dialed to confirm).

® Press the number an the keypad with the corresponding first letter of the
name you wish to call.
The user can also recall numbers by name by pressing Names, then press
Select at Search. Enter the name of the person user wish to call and press
OK , then press ® .
7.2.3 Erasing stored names and numbers
Note: The user cannot undo Erase functions, so be careful!

8. MESSAGES
Before user can receive text messages and pages, user must subscribe to the text
messaging network service.

Some or all of these features may not be available in some
wireless systems. Please see the service provider for details
and availability. EE-
Note: Text messages that user receive with the user’s phone may appear different at
times, due to messages that originate in networks other than the user’s own.
Also, the maximum length of a text message may depend on the network‘s
capabilities.
8.1 Message options
- Inbox is where incoming messages are received and stored. All new, unread
messages are kept here.
- Outbox is where all outgomg messages are created and stored.
o New Text Msg is where new text messages are received and stored.
8.2 When you receive a message
The phone sounds a massage alert tone, and the text message lcon appears.
The maximum length ofa received text message is up to 225 characters. The
phone has space for up to 30 text messages, depending on the length of each
message,
Text messages are shown in the order they were received, in their order of priority.
. Message received indicates an unread message or page. If more than one
message is received, the number of received messages is listed first.
. New emergency message indicates that the message or page received was
sent by someone via the service provider. Emergency messages are sent only in
situations where life and for property are in immediate danger. Emergency
messages are listed first and override all other messages.
- Urgent messages are also high priority messages.
8.2.1 Reading messages
6) With Message received displayed, press Read.
® Scroll to the new message and press Read again,
8.2.2 Reading options
Press options while a text message is displayed to access the following
reading captions:
- Details — Talkes the user to the detailed View for the message.
- New Message — Allows the user to create a new SMS message.
0 New Frcmy Ten-{plate — Allows the user to create a new SMS message
based on a predefined list of messages. such as “Meeting cancelled" or “Call
me please”.
Delete - Delete the message being viewed. The user will be asked to
confirm the deletion. '
- Dela; A11 - Deletes all received SMS messages. The user will be asked to
confirm the deletion.
- Soxt — Allows the user to sort the list of messages by either Date,
Status(read or unread), or Sender,
8.3 Calling someone back in a message
Press ® while the message is displayed to dial the number quickly.

Or, with the message and the phone number displayed on the phone's screen:
® Press Options.
® Scroll to and select Call back.
@ Press OK.
Note: If more than one number is on the screen, the numbers are displayed in a
list, Simply select the phone number user wants to call and press G). If no
numbers are found, the phone displays No numbers found on this screen.
8.3.1 Receiving a page
The phone displays Message received. The message displays Call :,
Followed by the name or number of the person who paged user. Only the
names of people whom user has stored in the phone book appear.
8.3.2 When the phone’s memory is full
One or more messages, of lowest priority, are automatically deleted in order
to receive new text messages when the phone's memory is full. If the
message memory is still full, the phone displays No Space: messages
waiting. The user can clear this notification by pressing OK.
Note.- Messages are usually deleted from your Inbox. An incoming
emergency message may delete messages from the Saved folder.
8.4 Send and receive e-mail messages
You can use your phone to send and receive e-mail messages. This means you no
longer need to be at your computer to send or receive messages.

8.4.1 Save e-mail addresses

9.1 The ‘Options’ selection key
When user select Missed, Received, Dialed or Timers and press Options,
a list of options appears on the phone‘s screen.
- Call — Choosing Call will dial the number. This is the same as pressing talk
when a call in the log is highlighted.
0 Save number 7 Choosing Save Number allows you to save the number into
the phone book.
. Save allows you to save the number into the phone book.
0 Delete , The Delete option removes the number from the call list
- Delete All — The Delete All option removes all of the number from the call
list.
9.2 Missed calls
The user phone stores up to the last 30 calls user have missed, If user has missed
any calls, Missed Calls displays on the screen, along with the number of calls
missed. Missed calls appear in the phone only if it was turned on and in a service
area when the call was missed.

10.1.2 Add entry
To add an event, the user scrolls to the desired day of the event and presses
the Select softkey. If no events are already scheduled for that day, the left
softkey wiil be ADD. The user presses the ADD softkey, and is taken to a
text entry pane. When the event information is completed, the user presses
the Enter softkey.
After pressing the Enter softkey, the user will be presented with the date
picker. The default date entered into the date picker will be the date that was

visible when the user pressed the ADD softkey. After entering the date, the
user presses the Enter softkey. The user will then be presented with the time
picker. The default time entered will be the current time when the user
pressed the ADD softkey.
10.1.3 Edit entry
To edit an existing event, the user scrolls to the day with the desired event
and presses the SELECT softkey. The user will be shown a list orall events
occurring on that day. The user highlights the desired event and presses the
SELECT softkey. The user will be presented with a detailed view of the
event. The user presses the OPTIONS softkev. The user then highlights the
Edi: Entry list item from the Options list and presses the SELECT
softkey. The user will be taken tn the text entry pane, which will already
contain the text note for the event.
Note: This feature allows the user to edit an existing event. All details about
the event can be modified.
10.1.4 Delete entry
This feature allows the user to remove an event from the calendar. To remove
an event from the Calendar, the user scrolls to the day on which the desired
event exists and presses the Select softkey. The user will be presented with
a list of events for that day. The user highlights the even to be deleted and
presses the Select softkev. The user will be presented with the detailed view
of the event. The user then presses the Options softkey. The user will be

presented with a list of options, The user highlights the Delete Entry list
item and presses the SELECT soitkey. The user will be asked to confirm the
deletion by pressing the ENTER softkey. The deletion can be cancelled by
pressing the CANCEL softkey or the END key.
Note: It should he hated that this function is permanent, and cannot be
undone.
10.1.5 Delete all entries
This feature allows the user to delete all of the events on the handset. To
delete all events, the user first scrolls to any day that has an event on it and
presses the SELECT softkey. The user highlights any event and presses the
SELECT softkey again. The user presses the O‘PT'IO'NS key, then
highlights the Delete A11 Entries list item from the Options submenu.
The user will be asked to confirm deletion by pressing the ENTER softkey.
The deletion can be cancelled by pressing the Ciel GEL softkey or the END
key.
Note: It should be noted that this function is permanent, and cannot be
undone.
10.2 Date and time in the calendar
10.2.1 Setting Date
The current date will be displayed as the default value of the buffer. Users
must enter the date on the keypad in MM/DD/YYYY mode. For months and
days less than 10, the user enters a leading zero.

For examples, September, the ninth month, must be entered as “09” In the
Set Date screen, the (9 displays 0K and the Q] displays EACK/ CLEAR.
The 0K command saves the current date setting, and the BACK / CLEAR
functions like the default action. Pressing the END key will return the user to
the idle/ready screen without saving changes.
10.2.2 Setting Time
To change the time, users enter a new time on the keypad, The time may be
entered in either 12-hour or 24-hour mode. For hours less than 10, users
enter a leading zero for example “0800". In the Set Clock screen the 9
displays 0K and the q] displays BACK/ CLEAR. The 0K command saves
the current clock setting, and the BACK/ CLEAR behaves in its default
fashion. Pressing the END key will return the user to the idle/ready screen
without saving changes.

welcome note displays a message each time user turn

phone is connected to a car kit. This feature determines whether the lights are
on only when user uses the phone. or it they are on at all times,

When Restore Defauits is selected, the user will be shown a confirmation view
asking if they are sure that they want to return the phone to its originai
configuration.
11.1.6 Minute Reminder
When Minute Reminder is selected, the user will be shown a confirmation view
asking if they are sure that they want to return the phone to its originai
configuration.
11.1.7 NAM Selection
The service provider programs the user‘s phone with the phone number and
system information into the phone's memory when the phone is first activated.
This is tailed a Number Assignment Moduie (NAM).

For example, the user’s phone can be activated in up to 3 different service
areas (e.g. one in Dallas, another in Chicago, and maybe one more in New
York), each giving the phone a different phone number or account.
Only one number can be active at a time. When user select a phone number,
user is also selecting which system user is using as the home system. The
first phone number displayed with this menu is the currently selected number.
Note: It may not be necessary to have three NAMs for the phone if the
service provider has service or roaming agreements for each area in which
user wishes to use the phone. Contact the service provider for details.

Call forwarding, Call waiting, Send own number, and Voice privacy are network
services available through the service provider or dealer.

user a separate feature code to activate each service.
Deactivation codes are used to deactivate each service.
Once user stores the appropriate code in your phone, the service appeals as a
menu item. The user can than use the menu to activate and deactivate these
services.
Each time user use a feature that requires a feature code, that code is sent to
the network to verify user is using the correct feature code.

means the phone automatically searches for available networks and chooses
the appropriate one. Every time user switches on the phone, it resets to
Automatic.
If user chooses Manual, the phone searches for networks, then displays them
for user. The user's phone displays Available: or Npt available : for
the systems it finds (The user can not use Not absilsme; systems),
Use the (9 key Do scroll through the choices, and press Select when the
user SEE the ONE USEI’ want.

If user chooses New Search, the phone begins a new search for private and
residential systems. When it finds the best system, the phone displays it. The
user can then select the system, or start another search by pressing Next.

”NAM selection” for more information about NAMs.
11.4 Voice messages
Voice mail is a network service that may require a subscription from the service
provider.
The user phone notifies user when user receive a voice message. New voice
message and the 0-0 icon appear on the screen, and the phone sounds a short
beep. The user phone displays the number of voice messages if user has received
more than one.
11.4.1 Saving the voice mailbox number
Before user can retrieve any voice messages, user must save the voice
mailbox phone number. The user service provider usually gives this number to

12. SECURITY SETTING
The phone is equipped With a versatile security system to prevent unauthorized use of
the phone.
12.1 Security code
The phone prompts user for a security code for certain features. These features
can be used only after the correct security code has been successfully entered.
Note: When entering the security code, an * appears on the screen each time
user press a number key, to prevent others from viewing the code.
If user makes a mistake entering the code, erase the last digit entered by pressing
Clear, or press and hold Clear. Then enter the correct code or press Back to
exit the current feature.
if user enter an incorrect security code (code error appears) five times in a
row, the phone won‘t accept any entries for the next five minutes.
The phone's default security code is 12345. It's highly recommended that user
change this code at once, write it down, and store it in a safe place away from the
phone.

14.1 Call forwarding
Note: This feature may not be available in all wireless systems. See the sen/ice
provider for details and availability.
This network service is used to forward incoming calls to another number so user
won‘t miss an important call.
Note: Before user can activate this feature, user should first store the feature
code given to user by the service provider. Otherwise, this feature may not appear
in the menu.
However, user can use the feature code manually, if you choose, by including the
feature code in front of the phone number (For example,*72 555 1212).
See "Storing codes" menu for more information.
® Press Menu 6 3 (Call Services - Call forwarding).

14.1.1 Call forwarding options

14.2 Call Restriction
This feature allows user to restrict incoming and outgoing calls. Outgoing calls are
restricted from a list of restrictions that the user create themselves.
If user has not yet defined restrictions in the phone, there is only one option:
- Add restriction allows user to create the own list of outgoing call
restrictions, The maximum number of call restriction groups user can define is
10.
Once user has entered Add restriction and have added at least one
restriction, the following options are added:
- Select allows user to select call restrictions from the outgoing calls list.
- Edit allows user to edit an existing outgoing call restriction.
- Erase erases any existing outgoing cali restrictions.
Note: When cefls are restricted, calls may be possible to the emergency number
programmed into the phone (e. 9.91 1 or other official emergency numbers).
However, Emergency key 9 may not operate depending on the type of restriction
user choose.
14.2.1 Restricting outgoing calls

The Caller ID function allows the user to enable or disable caller identification
features on the handset. The user can configure caller ID by highlighting the Caller
ID list item and pressing the left SELECT softkey, The user will be presented with
a list containing the following options:

The default setting will be Default. The service provider will determine the state of
the default setting, either on or offi The user can select one of the above choices
by highlighting the desired setting and pressing the left SELECT softkey, The
current setting will be denoted to the user by the inclusion of a checkmark next to
the list item. Once the desired setting is enabled, the user can return to the Call
Options submenu by pressing the right BACK softkeyi
14.5 Calling Card
Often a user will want to use a calling card for their long distance calls from their
cell phone To facilitate this need, this phone can store one calling card and all of
its information for fast access and convenience.

Calculator is a simple, 4-function floating-point calculator. It MENU ,

Calculator option in the menu and pressing the SELECT key. When in the Calculator
application, the left softkey ids OPTlONS and the rig ht softkey is BACK.
When the user enters a number, the right softkey changes to CLEAR and is used to
correct mistakes. The * key, which is labeled with a ‘+’ character cycles through the
four operators(+,-,x,+). The Options menu contains the following choices:
0 Equals — Concludes pending operation. Display result on screen. (The ‘e" key is a
shortcut for this operation. A single press will total the expression.
- Add — Completes entry of prior number. Moves digits up one line and displays a
‘+’symbol on the screen
0 Subtract - Completes entry of prior number. Moves digits up one line and displays
a ‘-‘symbol on the screen
. Multiply - Completes entry of prior number, Moves digits up one line and displays
x' symbol on the screen
- Divide — Completes entry of prior number. Moves digits up one line and displays a
