Safety Information

  • Before setting up the monitor, carefully read all the documentation that came with the package.
  • To prevent fire or shock hazard, never expose the monitor to rain or moisture.
  • Never try to open the monitor cabinet. The dangerous high voltages inside the monitor may result in serious physical injury.
  • If the power supply is broken, do not try to fix it by yourself. Contact a qualified service technician or your retailer.
  • Before using the product, make sure all cables are correctly connected and the power cables are not damaged. If you detect any damage, contact your dealer immediately.
  • Slots and openings on the back or top of the cabinet are provided for ventilation. Do not block these slots. Never place this product near or over a radiator or heat source unless proper ventilation is provided.
  • The monitor should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local power company.
  • Use the appropriate power plug which complies with your local power standard.
  • Do not overload power strips and extension cords. Overloading can result in fire or electric shock.
  • Avoid dust, humidity, and temperature extremes. Do not place the monitor in any area where it may become wet. Place the monitor on a stable surface.
  • Unplug the unit during a lightning storm or if it will not be used for a long period of time. This will protect the monitor from damage due to power surges.
  • Never push objects or spill liquid of any kind into the slots on the monitor cabinet.
  • To ensure satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed computers which have appropriate configured receptacles marked between 100 ~ 240V AC.
  • The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.
  • If you encounter technical problems with the monitor, contact a qualified service technician.
  • Provide an earthing connection before the mains plug is connected to the mains. When disconnecting the earthing connection, be sure to disconnect after pulling out the mains plug from the mains.

⚠️ WARNING: Usage of other than specified head- or earphones can result in hearing loss due to excessive sound pressures.

Care & Cleaning

  • Before you lift or reposition your monitor, it is better to disconnect the cables and power cord. Follow the correct lifting techniques when positioning the monitor. When lifting or carrying the monitor, grasp the edges of the monitor. Do not lift the display by the stand or the cord.
  • Cleaning: Turn your monitor off and unplug the power cord. Clean the monitor surface with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Stubborn stains may be removed with a cloth dampened with mild cleaner.
  • Avoid using a cleaner containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner intended for use with the LCD. Never spray cleaner directly on the screen, as it may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock.

Normal Monitor Symptoms:

  • The screen may flicker during the initial use due to the nature of the fluorescent light. Turn off the Power Switch and turn it on again to make sure that the flicker disappears.
  • You may find slightly uneven brightness on the screen depending on the desktop pattern you use.
  • When the same image is displayed for hours, an afterimage of the previous screen may remain after switching the image. The screen will recover slowly or you can turn off the Power Switch for hours.
  • When the screen becomes black or flashes, or cannot work anymore, contact your dealer or service center to fix it. Do not repair the screen by yourself!

Chapter 1: Product Introduction

1.1 Welcome!

Thank you for purchasing the ASUS® LCD monitor! The latest widescreen LCD monitor from ASUS provides a crisper, broader, and brighter display, plus a host of features that enhance your viewing experience. With these features, you can enjoy the convenience and delightful visual experience that the monitor brings you!

1.2 Package contents

1.3 Assembling the monitor

⚠️ CAUTION:

To assemble the monitor:

  1. Place the display flat on a cloth on the table. Then attach the base to the arm and fix with the screw to join them tightly. You can easily tighten the screw by fingers.
  2. Adjust the monitor to the angle that is most comfortable for you. The adjustable angle is approximately -5° to 20°.

1.4 Connect cables

1.4.1 Rear of the LCD monitor

The rear panel of the monitor includes various ports. The specific ports may vary slightly depending on the model (VP239N, VP239H, VP239T).

Common Ports:

  • 1. AC-IN Port: For power connection.
  • 2. HDMI Port: For digital video and audio connection.
  • 3. DVI Port: For digital video connection.
  • 4. VGA Port: For analog video connection.
  • 5. Audio - in Port: For audio input.
  • 6. Kensington Lock: Security slot for a Kensington lock.

1.5 Monitor introduction

1.5.1 Using the Controls button

Use the control buttons on the back of the monitor to adjust image settings. The buttons are numbered 1 through 9 in the diagrams.

VP239H Control Buttons:

  • 1. Power Indicator: Displays the monitor's power status (White for ON, Amber for Standby mode, OFF for Off).
  • 2. Power Button (⏻): Press to turn the monitor on/off.
  • 3. MENU Button (☰): Press to enter the OSD menu.
  • 4. Close Button (❌): Press to exit the OSD menu.
  • 5. Input Select Button (▶️): Use to switch between VGA, DVI, and HDMI input signals (HDMI only for VP239H).
  • 6. QuickFit Button (✨): Activates the QuickFit function for alignment, offering grid patterns, document, and photo sizes (see page 1-6 for details).
  • 7. Shortcut key1 (?): A shortcut key, default setting is Brightness.
  • 8. Shortcut key2 (?): A shortcut key, default setting is Blue Light Filter.
  • 9. Auto Button (?): Automatically adjusts image to its optimized position, clock, and phase (only available for VGA input).

1.5.2 QuickFit Function

The QuickFit function provides three patterns to aid in layout and viewing:

  1. Grid pattern: Facilitates designers and users to organize content and layout on one page and achieve a consistent look and feel.

Chapter 2: Setup

2.1 Detaching the arm/stand (for VESA wall mount)

The detachable stand is designed for VESA wall mounting.

To detach the arm/stand:

  1. Disconnect power and signal cables. Carefully place the monitor face down on a clean table.
  2. Use your fingers to loosen the screw at the bottom of the base, remove the base from the stand, and then remove the hinge cover from the monitor body.
  3. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws on the arm, and then detach the arm/stand from the monitor.

⚠️ Recommendations:

  • We recommend covering the table surface with a soft cloth to prevent damage to the monitor.
  • Hold the stand of the monitor while removing the screws.

Note:

  • The VESA wall mount kit (100 x 100 mm) is purchased separately.
  • Use only a UL Listed Wall Mount Bracket with a minimum weight/load capacity of 28.8 kg (Screw size: M4 x 10 mm).

2.2 Adjusting the monitor

  • For optimal viewing, look at the full face of the monitor and adjust it to the angle that is most comfortable for you.
  • Hold the stand to prevent the monitor from falling when you change its angle.
  • You can adjust the monitor's angle from +20° to -5°.

ℹ️ It is normal for the monitor to slightly shake while you adjust the viewing angle.

Chapter 3: General Instruction

3.1 OSD (On-Screen Display) menu

3.1.1 How to reconfigure

Follow these steps to navigate and reconfigure the OSD menu:

  1. Press the MENU button to activate the OSD menu.
  2. Press the ⬆️ and ⬇️ buttons to toggle between options in the Menu. The selected option name will be highlighted.
  3. To select the highlighted item, press the ✔️ button.
  4. Press the ⬆️ and ⬇️ buttons to select the desired parameter.
  5. Press the ✔️ button to enter the slide bar and then use the ◀️ or ▶️ buttons, according to the indicators on the menu, to make your changes.
  6. Select the ↩️ to return to the previous menu or ✔️ to accept and return to the previous menu.

3.1.2 OSD Function Introduction

  1. Splendid

    This function offers eight sub-functions for image enhancement. Each mode includes a Reset option.

    • Scenery Mode: Best for scenery photo displaying with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Standard Mode: Best for document editing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Theater Mode: Best for movie watching with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Game Mode: Best for game playing with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • Night View Mode: Best for playing dark-scene games or watching dark-scene movies with SPLENDID™ Video Intelligence Technology.
    • sRGB Mode: Best for viewing photos and graphics from PCs.
    • Reading Mode: Best for book reading.
    • Darkroom Mode: Best for a weak ambient light environment.

    Note on User-Configurable Settings:

    • In Standard Mode: Saturation, SkinTone, Sharpness, and ASCR are not user-configurable.
    • In sRGB Mode: Saturation, Color Temp., SkinTone, Sharpness, Brightness, Contrast, and ASCR are not user-configurable.
    • In Reading Mode: Saturation, SkinTone, Sharpness, ASCR, Contrast, and Color Temp functions are not user-configurable.
  2. Blue Light Filter

    Adjusts the energy level of blue light emitted from the LED backlight to reduce eye strain.

    • Level 0: No change.
    • Level 1~4: Higher levels reduce more blue light.
    • When Blue Light Filter is activated, default settings of Standard Mode are imported.
    • Between Level 1 to Level 3, Brightness is user-configurable.
    • Level 4 is an optimized setting compliant with TUV Low Blue Light Certification; Brightness is not user-configurable.

    To alleviate eye strains:

    • Take breaks (at least 5 minutes) after about 1 hour of continuous work. Short, frequent breaks are more effective than one long break.
    • Rest your eyes periodically by focusing on distant objects.
    • Perform eye exercises: (1) Look up and down, (2) Roll your eyes slowly, (3) Move your eyes diagonally.
    • High energy blue light may lead to eye strain and AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration). Blue light filter reduces up to 70% of harmful blue light to avoid CVS (Computer Vision Syndrome).
  3. Color

    Select image color preferences.

    • Brightness: Adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Contrast: Adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Saturation: Adjusting range from 0 to 100.
    • Color Temp.: Offers preset modes (Cool, Normal, Warm) and User Mode.
    • Skin Tone: Offers modes including Reddish, Natural, and Yellowish.
    • In User Mode, R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) colors are user-configurable with a range of 0 ~ 100.
  4. Image

    Adjusts image properties like Sharpness, Aspect Control, VividPixel, ASCR, Position, Focus, and Auto Adjust.

    • Sharpness: Adjusts picture sharpness from 0 to 100.
    • Aspect Control: Adjusts aspect ratio to "Full", "4:3", "Overscan".
    • VividPixel: ASUS Exclusive Technology for lifelike visuals, range from 0 to 100.
    • ASCR: Select ON or OFF to enable or disable dynamic contrast ratio function.
    • Position: Adjusts horizontal (H-Position) and vertical (V-Position) image position, range from 0 to 100 (VGA input only).
    • Focus: Reduces horizontal-line noise and vertical-line noise by adjusting (Phase) and (Clock) separately, range from 0 to 100 (VGA input only).
    • Auto Adjust: Automatically adjusts image to its optimized position, clock, and phase (VGA input only).

    Notes on Image Settings:

    • 4:3 aspect ratio is only available for 4:3 input sources. Overscan is only available for HDMI input sources.
    • Phase adjustment affects pixel clock signal; incorrect phase may cause horizontal disturbances.
    • Clock (pixel frequency) controls scan lines; incorrect frequency may cause vertical stripes or proportional issues.
  5. Input Select

    Select the input source from VGA, DVI, HDMI (HDMI only for VP239H).

  6. System Setup

    Adjusts system configuration settings.

    • Splendid Demo Mode: Activates the demo mode for the Splendid function.
    • Volume: Adjusts output volume level (VP239H/VP239T only).
    • GamePlus: Provides a toolkit for gaming environments. The Aimpoint function is designed for FPS games. To activate GamePlus: Select ON to enter the main menu. Press ⬆️ and ⬇️ to select Crosshair or Timer. Press ✔️ to confirm, ↩️ to go back, and to exit.

    • Language: Select OSD language from a list including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Czech, Croatian, Hungarian, Romanian, Portuguese, Turkish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Thai, Indonesian.
    • Key Lock: Disables all key functions. Pressing the second button from the right for more than five seconds disables key lock.
    • More: Navigates to the next page of System Setting.
    • Back: Returns to the previous page of System Setting.
    • Information: Displays monitor information.
    • Power Indicator: Turns the power LED indicator on/off.
    • Power Key Lock: Disables or enables the power key.
    • All Reset: Selects "Yes" to revert all settings to factory default mode.
  7. Shortcut

    Allows setting two shortcut keys.

3.3 Troubleshooting (FAQ)

Problem Possible Solution
Power LED is not ON
  • Press the button to check if the monitor is in the ON mode.
  • Check if the power cord is properly connected to the monitor and the power outlet.
  • Check Power Indicator function in main menu OSD. Select "ON" to turn on power LED.
The power LED lights amber and there is no screen image
  • Check if the monitor and the computer are in the ON mode.
  • Make sure the signal cable is properly connected to the monitor and the computer.
  • Inspect the signal cable and make sure none of the pins are bent.
  • Connect the computer with another available monitor to check if the computer is properly working.
Screen image is too light or dark
  • Adjust the Contrast and Brightness settings via OSD.
Screen image bounces or a wave pattern is present in the image
  • Make sure the signal cable is properly connected to the monitor and the computer.
  • Move electrical devices that may cause electrical interference.
Screen image has color defects (white does not look white)
  • Inspect the signal cable and make sure that none of the pins are bent.
  • Perform Reset via OSD.
  • Adjust the R/G/B color settings or select the Color Temperature via OSD.
No sound or sound is low (VP239H/VP239T)
  • Make sure the audio cable is properly connected to the monitor.
  • Adjust the volume settings of both your monitor and computer.
  • Make sure the computer sound card driver is properly installed and activated.
  • Make sure the audio source is correct on the OSD.
