Product Operation
Turn on the device and enter the main menu. The main menu options are:
- CONT: Test open, short, cross, etc. for STP, UTP cables.
- Length: Measure the length of LAN cables (range: 2.5m~200m).
- Scan: Use Analog/Digital/PoE modes to locate LAN cables.
- PoE: Test standard or non-standard PoE switches (5~60V), identify AT or AF standard of PSE type.
- Flash: Locate network port by the flashing port light on a switch/router.
- Setting: Configure Language, backlight time, auto-off time, contrast, and version information.
1. Continuity Testing
Connect one end of the cable to the “CONT” port of the transmitter. Connect the other end to the RJ45 port of the remote. Press “OK” to start testing.
Possible Results:
- Good Condition: Displays pin connections 1-8 for both R (Remote) and M (Main/Emitter) sides.
- Short Circuit: Displays "Short" information. Specific pins may be indicated as shorted (e.g., Pin12, Pin45).
- Broken Cable: Displays "Short" information if other faults exist, or indicates specific pins are broken (e.g., Pin5 & Pin8 broken).
- Crossed Wires: Displays specific pins as crossed (e.g., Pin56, Pin18 are cross).
- Cable Open!: This message appears if all pins are open, no cable is connected, the remote is not connected, or connected to the wrong port.
Note: If a cable has a short circuit, the result will only display "Short". If no short circuit exists, it will display the actual condition.
Cable Types:
- UTP LAN Cable: Shows pin connections 1-8.
- STP LAN Cable: Shows pin connections 1-8 with a 'G' indicating ground.
2. Length Measurement
Connect one end of the cable to the "Length/Port flash" port. Disconnect the cable at the far end. Select "Length" from the main menu and choose the preferred unit (meter/yard/feet) before testing. Press start to measure.
Example Results:
- 12: 80.8meter
- 36: 12.1meter
- 45: 80.8meter
- 78: 80.8meter
Note: If the measurement is 12.1m, it indicates a potential problem at that length. Test continuity for details.
Kind Reminders When Measuring Cable Length:
- The LAN cable to be tested must be de-energized.
- Disconnect the cable at the far end; no remote or other devices should be connected.
- The measurement range is 2.5m~200m; otherwise, it will display 0 meter.
3. Cable Scan
Connect the cable to be tested to the "SCAN" port of the transmitter. Enter "SCAN" on the main menu and press OK to choose the scan mode (default is Digital mode; other modes are Analog & PoE). Set the corresponding mode on the receiver accordingly. Hold the receiver near the cable at the other end; the loudest tone indicates the correct cable.
Scan Modes:
- SCAN - Digital mode
- SCAN - Analog mode
- SCAN - PoE mode
Attention:
- If the transmitter is in PoE scan and digital scan mode, the receiver must be in digital mode. Analog scan on the transmitter matches analog mode on the receiver. If modes do not match, no tone will be generated even if the correct cable is touched.
- Non-contact voltage detecting (NCV): Press the "Power/Set" button on the receiver. If the "NCV" indicator (⚡) is lit, the receiver can detect AC voltage presence.
4. PoE Testing
4.1 Standard PoE Device
This function tests standard PoE devices, providing information on POE voltage, power supply polarity, power supply mode, and the type of PSE (af or at standard).
Connect the cable into the "PoE" port. The testing result displays as follows:
| Pins providing power | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | Mode | Voltage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type | PoE | Endspan | IEEE 802.3at | -53.6VDC | ||||||
4.2 Non-standard PoE Device
If the PoE device is non-standard, it can still test POE voltage, power supply polarity, and power supply mode, but it will display "Non standard" instead of the PSE type.
Connect the cable into the "PoE" port. The testing result displays as follows:
| Pins providing power | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | Mode | Voltage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type | PoE | 8pins | Non Standard | 53.6VDC | ||||||
Attention: If all 8 pins are providing power, polarity will not be displayed.
Note: If connected with a PoE device, the result can be displayed after a few seconds. If no result is displayed after 30 seconds, the connected device may not be a PoE device.
5. Port Flash & Switch Details Testing
Connect a LAN cable to the "Length/Flash" port on the main unit and select "Flash" from the main menu to start testing. The indicators on the "Length / Flash" port will light up and flash. Observe the ports on the switch; a port flashing every 3 seconds, and slower than other ports, is the target port.
The device can also display the connected switch's information, such as its speed (10M/100M/1000M), transmitting modes (FDX: full duplex / HDX: half duplex), and protocol (Auto-Nego / Non-Auto-Nego).
Example Flash Result:
- 1000M FDX
- P: Auto-Nego
