Pro Kit Yield vs. Legacy
The MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA Kit demonstrates superior DNA yield compared to the legacy MagAttract PowerSoil DNA and the manual DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit across various sample types, including human stool, dog stool, horse stool, and guinea pig stool. The performance comparison is based on DNA isolated from 100 mg of stool and measured using a Qubit Fluorometer. The MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA consistently achieved higher yields.
Key Observation: MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA (red) obtained higher DNA yields for all sample types compared to the legacy MagAttract PowerSoil Kit DNA (dark blue) and comparable yields to the manual DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kit (light blue).
Pro Kit Quality vs. Legacy
The kit also excels in DNA quality, as indicated by the 260/230 and 260/280 ratios. The 260/230 ratios are higher with the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA compared to legacy kits. Furthermore, the assessment of co-isolated inhibitors using Inhibition PCR shows that the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro eluates exhibit no inhibition, indicating superior purity.
Key Observations:
- The 260/230 ratios for all samples were higher with the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA (red) compared to MagAttract PowerSoil DNA (dark blue) and higher or comparable to the manual DNeasy PowerSoil Pro (light blue).
- The co-isolation of inhibitors was assessed via Inhibition PCR. The internal control (IC) from the QuantiFast Pathogen +IC kit was spiked with 4 µl isolated DNA (4 replicates). After IC amplification via PCR, the Ct values were compared to the Ct values for PCR with water added to the IC (representing no inhibition) by calculating Delta Ct. The MagAttract PowerSoil Pro eluates showed no inhibition for all samples compared to all competitor kits.
Pro Kit Yield vs. Competitor
Performance comparisons against competitor kits (Supplier MN, Supplier O, and Supplier Z) highlight the advantages of the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA Kit. Both total DNA yield and DNA yield per mg of sample are significantly higher for the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA across tested sample types like forest soil, human stool, and dog stool.

- Total DNA yield (µg) is higher for MagAttract PowerSoil Pro across all sample types.
- DNA yield per mg sample (ng DNA/mg sample) is also significantly higher for MagAttract PowerSoil Pro compared to all competitor kits.
Pro Kit Quality vs. Competitor
In terms of DNA quality when compared to competitor kits, the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA Kit consistently delivers higher 260/230 ratios. The 260/280 ratios are also consistent and, in many cases, superior to those obtained with competitor kits, indicating better purity and reduced contamination.
Key Observations:
- The 260/230 ratios for all samples were higher with the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA (red) compared to all competitor kits.
- The 260/280 ratios for all samples were consistent with the MagAttract PowerSoil Pro DNA (red) compared to all competitor kits. Most of the competitor kits showed lower 260/280 ratios.
- Inhibition PCR results show no inhibition for MagAttract PowerSoil Pro eluates, outperforming competitor kits in inhibitor removal.
