II. NoAPP Setup

2.1. Overview

NoAPP technology enables device setup without third-party apps, allowing control via Alexa/Google Home apps or voice commands. Benefits include no app downloads, a cleaner phone, quick setup with email notifications, a high success rate, minimal required information (Wi-Fi password and email), and no third-party app issues, fostering trust in Alexa and Google Home.

2.2. Supported Devices

Look for the "NOAPP" badge on the device packaging to confirm NoAPP setup compatibility.

2.3. What's Required?

Before setup, ensure the following are ready:

  • A smartphone or tablet running iOS 9.0 / Android™ 4.1 or higher.
  • A 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network with internet connection.
  • The device is powered on and the LED indicator is flashing intermittently.

2.4. Find Your Settings

Open your phone's settings and select WLAN. Connect to the "BroadLink_WiFi_Device" wireless network and wait for the connection. If the network is not found, disable and re-enable WLAN. If a message appears stating "This WLAN network has no Internet access. Connect anyway?”, select "CONNECT".

2.5. Connect Device

A landing page will automatically appear on your smartphone. Select your home Wi-Fi name and enter the password. Input your email as an account name and name the device for voice control. Proceed to the next page and tap "Connect now" to complete network setup. A confirmation email will be sent upon successful connection. Search and enable the "BroadLink" skill in Alexa or Google Home app, then sign in with your email. If the email is not received within 5 minutes, check the spam folder. If still not received, check network connection and Wi-Fi password, then reset the device and try again.

2.6. Check Online Status

The LED indicator will flash slower and then remain steady (on or off), indicating a successful Wi-Fi connection. A confirmation email will be sent after the device is online. You can then use Alexa or Google Home app to add the device by linking the "BroadLink" skill. For iPhone/iPad, the landing page may close automatically; for some Android phones, you might need to return to the home page manually.

III. Add & Control Device in Alexa

3.1. Prepare Alexa App

Search for "Alexa" in the Google Play or App Store and download the app. Open the Alexa app and sign in or create a new Amazon account. An Echo speaker is not required for controlling the device via the Alexa app or voice commands.

3.2. Link Account

Tap the main menu in the Alexa app (top left corner) and choose "Skills & Games". Search for "BroadLink" and select the "BroadLink" skill (avoid the legacy skill). Enable the skill, which will redirect you to an account linking page. Confirm your location. If you select the wrong location, tap the server location under the "BroadLink" logo to change it. If you did not set up a BroadLink account with email and password for NoAPP setup, choose the "NoAPP" option. For existing BroadLink users, choose either "BroadLink Account" or "NoAPP" to sign in. Input the same email used in the pop-up landing page and tap "Next". You will receive an email with a 7-digit verification code. Input the code and tap "Sign in" to complete account linking.

3.3. Link with Google Account / Apple ID (Optional)

This optional step allows quick sign-in to Alexa/Google skills using Google/Apple authentication (fingerprint, facial recognition) without BroadLink credentials. To link, tap "Link" on the respective account option. You may be prompted for face ID, fingerprint, or account password. After linking, tap "Finish". You can skip this step or link again by disabling/enabling the skill or through the "Me" > "Linked accounts" section in the BroadLink app.

3.4. Discover Device

After account linking, the Alexa app will discover devices. Tap "DISCOVER DEVICES". Alexa will search for devices under your BroadLink account and display the results. If multiple devices are found, tap "CHOOSE DEVICE" to set them up one by one. If you accidentally cancel discovery, tap the Alexa icon and say "Discover devices". Once set up, devices appear in groups like "Plugs" or "All Devices", marked with a red dot for easy identification.

3.5. Control Device Manually in Alexa

Find the device in "Plugs" or "All Devices" and tap to enter the control page. Use the ON/OFF button to control the plug. Tap the "Settings" icon to rename the device, change its type, or disable it. Changing the device type may move it to another group.

3.6. Control Device by Voice in Alexa App

Tap the Alexa icon and use voice commands. For near-field control, speak close to your phone's mic without using the wake-up word "Alexa".

Supported utterances for SP4M-US include:

  • "Turn on smart plug"
  • "Turn off smart plug"

Supported utterances for SP4L series include:

  • "Turn on smart plug"
  • "Turn off smart plug"
  • "Turn on night light"
  • "Turn off night light"
  • "Dim night light"
  • "Brighten night light"
  • "Dim night light to 20%"
  • "Brighten night light to 80%"

3.7. Control Device by Voice with Echo Speaker

If you have an Echo speaker, you can control the device using far-field voice recognition. For Echo speaker setup, refer to the Alexa app guide or consult Amazon customer service. When using an Echo speaker, include the wake-up word, e.g., "Alexa, turn on smart plug".

IV. Add & Control Device in Google Home

4.1. Prepare Google Home App

Search for "Google Home" in the Google Play or App Store and download the app. Sign in or create a new Google account. The app will automatically sign in if you have previously used your Google account. Google Home or Nest speakers are not required for app or voice control.

4.2. Link Account

In the Google Home app, tap the main menu (top left), select "Set up device" > "Works with Google". In the "Manage accounts" page, search for and select the "BroadLink" service. Confirm your location on the account linking page. If you choose the wrong location, tap the server location under the "BroadLink" logo to correct it. If you haven't set up a BroadLink account with email and password for NoAPP setup, choose "NoAPP". Existing BroadLink users can choose "BroadLink Account" or "NoAPP". Input the same email used in the pop-up landing page and tap "Next". You will receive an email with a 7-digit verification code. Input the code and tap "Sign in" to complete account linking.

4.3. Link with Google Account / Apple ID (Optional)

This optional step allows quick sign-in to Google Home skills using Google/Apple authentication. To link, tap "Link" next to your preferred account. You may be prompted for face ID, fingerprint, or account password. After linking, tap "Finish". You can skip this step or link again via the "Me" > "Linked accounts" section in the BroadLink app.

4.4. Discover Device

After completing step 4.3, Google Home will automatically discover devices. You can then choose the device and assign it to a room. The "Add smart home devices" screen allows you to select devices and add them to a room. Choose a home and then assign the device to a room for better organization. If you skip assigning a room, individual control is still possible, but group control within a room will not be available.

4.5. Control Device Manually in Google Home

Tap the device icon to enter the control page for manual control. Tap the settings icon to enter the device settings page, where you can rename the device, change its home/room, or unlink the service.

4.6. Control Device by Voice with Google Speaker

If you have a Google speaker (e.g., Google Home mini or Nest Hub), you can control the device using far-field voice recognition. For Google speaker setup, refer to the Google Home app guide or consult Google customer service. When using a Google speaker, include the wake-up word, e.g., "Hey Google, turn on smart plug" or "OK Google, turn off smart plug".

V. Control Device in BroadLink App

5.1. Why BroadLink App

While NoAPP, Alexa, and Google Home offer easy setup and control, the BroadLink app provides additional features such as easier routine and notification settings, flexible timers (scheduled, delay, cycled, random), and max working hours control.

5.2. What's Required

  • A smartphone or tablet running iOS 9.0 / Android 4.1 or higher.
  • Internet access on the phone.

If the app is already installed and you are signed in, skip to step 2.2 – 2.4.

5.3. Download and Install App

Download the latest "BroadLink" app from the App Store or Google Play by searching "broadlink" and install it on your smartphone or tablet.

5.4. Sign in App

Open the BroadLink App. For first-time use, select your country/region to ensure proper server connection. The app automatically chooses the appropriate server, but you can change it manually if needed. If you have an account on one server, you cannot create the same account on another. If you signed in with an account from the legacy IHC app, you might have the same account on different servers; sign in to a server outside your region and delete the account. On the login page, choose "BroadLink Account" and tap "Sign in via verification code". Input your email (same as used in NoAPP setup) and tap "Sign in". You will receive an email with a verification code. Input the code and tap "Sign in" to log into the app.

5.5. Control Device

If the device is already set up with NoAPP and controllable via Alexa or Google Home, no extra setup is needed in the BroadLink app. The device will be automatically found and displayed on the homepage. You can tap the quick control button to turn the device on/off, or tap the device icon to enter the control page. In the control page, tap the status icon or power button to toggle the device. The background color changes according to the on/off status.

VI. Set Up Timers

7.1. Types of Timers

BroadLink app supports four types of timers:

Type of Timer Description Frequently Used Scenes
Regular timer Device operates at a specified time (once or repeated days). Turn on radio at 7:00 AM daily.
Sunrise/Sunset timer Device operates at sunrise and sunset times (based on local weather data). Turn on floor lamp at sunset and turn off at sunrise.
Cycled timer Device turns on for a specified time, then off for another specified time, repeating within a period (once or repeated days). Turn on oxygen pump for 5 min, then off for 10 min, repeating every 24 hours.
Delay timer Device operates after a specified time. Turn off bed lamp after 10 min.

7.2. Set Up Regular Timer

In the device control page, tap "Timer", then "Add timer". Slide up and down to choose a time. You can set the timer for specific days (every day, weekdays, weekends, or custom days). Tap "Operation" to set the action (turn on/off the socket).

7.3. Set Up Sunrise/Sunset Timer

On the timer setting page, choose "Sunrise/Sunset". Set the device location to find the correct sunrise/sunset times. You can tap "Device location" to choose your country, province/state, and city, or let the app automatically detect your location. You can also set a deviation to activate the device a few minutes before or after sunrise or sunset.

7.4. Set Up Cycled Timer

On the Regular Timer setting page, tap "Cycle" to switch to Cycled Timer setting. Set a start time and end time (sunrise/sunset can be used). Then set the duration time and action for operation 1 and operation 2. Refer to section 6.2 for "Repeat setting". Tap "Save" to save the timer, or "Common" to switch back to regular timer settings.

7.5. Set Up Delay Timer

In the device control page, tap "Delay" to add a delay timer. Choose a preset delay time or customize it.

VII. Other Functions

8.1. Max Work Time

Access "Function Set" from the device control page. The "Max Work Time" feature acts like a mechanical timer, activating the socket and automatically turning it off after a preset duration. For example, set a 30-minute timer for boiling soup. Once enabled, pressing the on/off button starts the process, and the device will automatically power off after 30 minutes.

8.2. LED Indicator Light

The LED indicator is enabled by default. You can disable it in the "Enable LED indicator" option if desired.

8.3. Control History

Tap "History" to view control records. You can change the date by tapping the date in the center or using "Previous Day" / "Next Day" buttons.

VIII. Device Settings

8.1. Device Information

In the device settings page, you can rename the device, change its room, or check device info. The "Device info" page is useful for customer support. You can take a screenshot or tap "Copy all information" to send details for troubleshooting.

8.2. Firmware Update

Tap "Firmware update" to check for updates. New firmware may be pushed automatically. After the update, a success message will appear. If the firmware is up to date, the current version will be displayed. Note: Do not power off the device or disconnect Wi-Fi during the update. The socket will turn off during the update; manually switch it on afterward if needed.

8.3. Notification Setting

Set up push notifications for device on/off or offline status. In "Notification setting", tap "Add notification", select a device state (on, off, or offline), and choose the device. You can customize the notification text. Disable notifications if not needed. For Android phones, ensure Google service access and the app running in the background for push notifications.

8.4. Sub-Devices

BroadLink 4th gen smart plugs support FastCon™ Bridging, allowing devices to form sub-networks with one master and multiple clients, reducing Wi-Fi router load. If your device is a master, you can tap "Sub-device" to view all sub-devices.
