When you cut your hair, you should visualize the head as if it were divided into four sections. Image below shows the different sections. Using proper techniques when moving from one section to the next will help you blend the sections together for professional looking results.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE FOR CUTTING HAIR
Section 4: Top of the head Section 2: Under the rim of the head

1. Comb hair and remove tangles. Add the largest attachment guard to the clipper.

2. Start at hairline on side of head and cut up to middle of head. Note: If cut hair is too long, repeat with next smaller guard.

4. You are now ready to cut the middle portion of the hair.
� The first time you cut hair, cut only a small amount of hair until you become accustomed to the length of hair each attachment guard provides.
� For best results, hair should be dry before using clipper. � For best results, when cutting hair, go through hair at a slow, even speed.
Don't force the clipper through the hair. � For best results, go through the hair against the direction of your hair's growth,
so you can catch more hair with the guard. � The blades on your new clipper should be oiled every few haircuts.

5. Use the attachment guard with the next highest number than in step 3. Example: If you used a #6 guard in step 3, select guard #7.

6. Continue cutting around middle portion of head as in steps 2 and 3.

7. For cutting top of head, use the attachment guard with the next highest number than in step 6. Start at front bang area.

BLENDING
When you want to blend from one section to the next, you will need to practice moving the clipper in an upward rocking motion. This motion will leave the hair slightly longer where the clipper pulls away from the scalp, enabling you to blend between the sections and achieve a smooth transition from one length of hair to the next. This technique will enhance the appearance of your haircuts.
1. Blend out any cut lines. Lines may form where you change guard sizes. Use the same guard used in step 3
2. Using a rocking motion, blend out the middle cut line.
3. Using the guard used in step 8 repeat blending the top outline as needed.

OIL BLADES: The blades on your new clipper should be oiled every few haircuts. When oiling your clipper, turn the clipper "ON - I," hold the unit with the blades facing DOWN and squeeze three drops across the front of the blade and one drop on each side on the heel of the blade. Wipe off excess oil with soft cloth. NOTICE--DO NOT OVER OIL! Excessive oiling or application of liquids will cause damage if allowed to seep back into motor. DO NOT USE HAIR OIL, GREASE, OR ANY OIL MIXED WITH KEROSENE OR ANY SOLVENT.
DETACHABLE BLADES: 9179 Clippers Only
REMOVING BLADES: 9179 Clippers Only Before removing blades, make sure the on/off switch is turned to the "0" or "OFF" position. � Hold the clipper in both hands. Using both thumbs,
push the blades away from the front of the clipper. � The blade set with the top and bottom blades
will come off in one piece.
ATTACHING BLADES: 9179 Clippers Only Before reattaching blades, make sure the on/off switch is turned to the "0" or "OFF" position. � (1) To reattach the blade, place the hook at the bottom
of the blade set into the space provided on the clipper housing. � (2) Pivot the blade set toward the housing. Once it is seated, snap blade set to case so that you hear a click.
CLEANING BLADES: 9179 Clippers Only Use the cleaning brush(es) provided to removed hair from between the blades, 9179 detachable bldes are rinseable with water, however, rest of the clipper is NOT washable. After cleaning blades, oil blades as noted above.
CLIPPER MAINTENANCE
CLEANING BLADES: 2240L and PPL Clippers Only Use the cleaning brush(es) provided to remove hair from between the blades. DO NOT USE WATER TO CLEAN THE BLADES (PPL and 2240L clippers) OR THE CLIPPER. For best results, after brushing the blades, add Wahl clipper oil to the blades. TAPER LEVER: 2240L and PPL Clippers Only The taper lever adds versatility to your clipper by allowing you to gradually change the closeness of your cut, ideal for blending and fading. Lever in "Up" Position = Closest Cut; Lever in "Down" Position = Longest Cut. Should the blades become jammed with hair, move the taper lever up and down several times to help free up the blades. CHARGING: 1) Before the clipper is used for the first time, it should be charged for 3 to 5 hours. After the
first charge, it will also take 3 to 5 hours to fully recharge the battery. 2) After initial charge, clipper can be "Quick Charged" for 15 minutes. This should allow
enough power for one haircut. 3) To charge, turn off clipper and connect the charging cord plug into any convenient
electrical outlet at the correct voltage. 4) CHARGE INDICATORS:
a. Not all PPL clippers include a charge indicator light. On PPL clippers with an indicator light, the light will not turn off or change color after clipper is fully charged. The power indicator light illuminates to reflect when the charger is properly connected to the clipper and plugged in. Light will not indicate when the clipper needs to be recharged.
b. 9179 and 2240L Clippers: When clipper is charging, the indicator light will be red, when unit is fully charged, the light will turn green.
5) When clipper is not in use, it may be connected to the charging cord and plugged into an outlet to assure maximum power is available when it is next used. This transformer is designed to charge the battery without overcharging. The clipper cannot be overcharged, so you may charge it as often as desired.
6) The charging cord should be removed from the clipper when not charging. Leaving the charging cord connected to the clipper without being plugged in may cause the battery to drain.
7) The cord should not be used to pull the clipper. Since freedom of movement needs to be maintained, care should be used to keep the cord untwisted and unobstructed. When stored, the cord should be coiled and unit placed in original box or storage case (if provided), away from children.
TROUBLESHOOTING: If your clipper does not seem to take a charge, check the following before returning it for repair: 1) Check outlet operation by plugging in another appliance. 2) Make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch which turns the power at the outlet off. 3) Be sure the clipper is properly connected to the charging cord, all connections are secure
and the switch on the clipper is turned "OFF - 0." 4) If your electricity is connected to a master power switch, we suggest the clipper be
disconnected from the charging cord anytime the master switch is off. Leaving the unit plugged into a dead outlet or an unplugged charger will drain the battery. 5) If clipper does not run and it is completely charged, turn the unit "ON - I" and pinch or push the blades manually. (Oil may have dried out between the blades, so they may be temporarily stuck together.)
LITHIUM-ION BATTERY REPLACEMENT, CLIPPER DISPOSAL AND RECYCLING: � For battery replacement send the entire, intact clipper unit to: Wahl Annex 3001 North
Locust, P.O. Box 578, Sterling, IL 61081 � Do not attempt to remove the battery. Lithium-Ion batteries can explode, catch fire, and/or
cause burns if disassembled, damaged, or exposed to water or high temperatures. � If you choose not to replace the battery, the entire, intact clipper unit must be disposed.
Do not attempt to remove the battery for disposal. Lithium-Ion batteries may be subject to local disposal regulations. Many locations prohibit disposal in standard waste receptacles. Check your local laws and regulations. � For recycling contact a government recycling agency, waste disposal service, retailer, or visit online recycling sources, such as www.batteryrecycling.com or www.rbrc.org.
EASY-TO-USE ATTACHMENT GUARDS
ATTACHMENT GUARDS: Attachment guards help you cut hair to a desired length by keeping the blades at set distance from the skin, helping ensure an even hair length after cutting hair with a guard attached to the clipper. For easy reference, each guard is numbered and lists what length the hair will be after being cut using the noted size guard. Always start with a longer length guard (you can always use a shorter length guard if the length is not short enough). The first time you cut hair, cut only a small amount of hair until you become accustomed to the length of hair each attachment guard provides. To achieve an even "tapered" cut around the ears, use the LEFT and RIGHT tapered attachment guards. To trim eyebrow hair, use the BROW trim attachment guard. Before adding or removing guards from clipper, make sure the on/off switch is turned off (or in "0" position). Not all kits include all the different size and style of guards listed in this instruction sheet.
Your kit will include a set of either `Standard' or `Elite' attachment guards.
Standard Elite
ADDING: While holding at a slight angle, place the attachment guard onto the clipper so the tips of the blade rests into the slots of the guard fingers. (fig A) Using your thumb, push down on the guard, where the guard size number is located, until you Hear a "SNAP". (fig B)
REMOVING: While holding the top of attachment guard, place your thumb on the underside of the attachment guard tab. Push up on tab to remove guard from clipper. (fig C)

The cutting length of the ear taper guards ranges from 3/16" (#1-1/2") to 1/4" (#4).

MANTENIMIENTO DE LA CORTADORA
ACEITE LAS CUCHILLAS: Las cuchillas de su nueva cortadora se deben aceitar cada varios cortes. Cuando lubrique su recortadora, col�quela en posici�n de encendido ("ON � I"), sostenga la unidad con las cuchillas mirando hacia ABAJO y escurra tres gotas por la parte delantera de las cuchillas y una en cada lado de la parte plana de la cuchilla. Limpie el exceso de aceite con un pa�o suave. IMPORTANTE: �NO COLOQUE ACEITE EN EXCESO! La aplicaci�n excesiva de aceite o l�quidos ocasionar� da�os si se filtran hacia el motor. NO USE ACEITE PARA CABELLO, GRASA NI OTRO ACEITE MEZCLADO CON QUEROSENO U OTRO SOLVENTE.
CUCHILLAS DESMONTABLES: Solo para cortadoras 9179 C�MO QUITAR LAS CUCHILLAS: Solo para cortadoras 9179 Antes de quitar las cuchillas, aseg�rese de que el interruptor de encendido/apagado se encuentre en la posici�n "0" o "APAGADO".
� Sostenga la cortadora con ambas manos. Utilizando los dos pulgares empuje las cuchillas, separ�ndolas del frente de la cortadora.
� El conjunto de cuchillas, con la cuchilla superior e inferior, saldr� en una sola pieza.
C�MO COLOCAR LAS CUCHILLAS: Solo para cortadoras 9179 Antes de volver a colocar las cuchillas, aseg�rese de que el interruptor de encendido/apagado se encuentre en la posici�n "0" o "APAGADO".
� Las cuchillas se pueden lavar directamente alrededor del �rea de las cuchillas en la carcasa �nicamente. Evite lavar las �reas alrededor del interruptor de apagado/encendido y las �reas de conexi�n del adaptador de electricidad.
LIMPIEZA DE LAS CUCHILLAS 9179: Use los cepillos de limpieza incluidos para eliminar el cabello entre las cuchillas. Las cuchillas desmontables 9179 pueden enjuagarse con agua, pero el resto de la cortadora NO es lavable.

PALANCA GU�A: Las cortadoras 9179 no tienen palanca gu�a La palanca gu�a agrega versatilidad a su cortadora, permiti�ndole cambiar gradualmente la cercan�a del corte, y es ideal para mezclar y desvanecer. Palanca en posici�n "arriba" = corte m�s cercano; palanca en posici�n "abajo" = corte m�s largo. Si las cuchillas se atascaran con cabello, mueva la palanca hacia arriba y abajo varias veces para ayudar a despejar las cuchillas.
CARGA: 1) Antes de utilizar la cortadora por primera vez, se debe cargar de 3 a 5 horas. Despu�s de
la primera carga, recargar completamente la bater�a tambi�n tomar� de 3 a 5 horas. 2) Despu�s de la carga inicial, puede hacer una "carga r�pida" de su cortadora en 15
minutos. Esto deber�a darle suficiente carga para un corte de cabello.. 3) Para cargarla, apague la cortadora y enchufe el cable de carga en un tomacorriente
adecuado con el voltaje correcto. 4) INDICADORES DE CARGA:
a. No todas las cortadoras PPL incluyen una luz indicadora de carga. En las cortadoras PPL con luz indicadora, la luz no se apagar� ni cambiar� de color cuando la cortadora est� completamente cargada. La luz indicadora de carga se enciende para indicar que el cargador est� conectado correctamente a la cortadora y enchufado al tomacorriente. La luz no indicar� cuando la cortadora necesite carga.
b. Cortadoras 9179 y 2240L: Cuando la cortadora se est� cargando, la luz indicadora estar� roja; cuando la unidad est� completamente cargada, la luz se pondr� verde.
5) Cuando no est� usando la cortadora puede conectarla al cable de carga y enchufarla a un tomacorriente para asegurarse de que tenga la m�xima potencia la pr�xima vez que la use. Este transformador est� dise�ado para cargar la bater�a sin sobrecargarla. La cortadora no puede cargarse en exceso, as� que puede cargarla con tanta frecuencia como desee.
6) Debe desconectar el cable de carga de la cortadora cuando no la est� cargando. Dejar el cable conectado a la cortadora cuando no est� conectado a un tomacorriente podr�a hacer que se drene la bater�a.
7) No se debe usar el cable para tirar de la m�quina. Debido a que es necesario mantener un movimiento suelto, se debe tener cuidado de que el cable no est� retorcido ni atorado. Cuando lo almacene, el cable se debe enrollar y la unidad se debe colocar en la caja original o en su estuche (si est� incluido), lejos de los ni�os.
SOLUCI�N DE PROBLEMAS: Si parece que la cortadora no se carga, verifique lo siguiente antes de llevarla a reparar: 1) Verifique el funcionamiento del tomacorriente enchufando otro aparato. 2) Aseg�rese de que el tomacorriente no est� conectado a un interruptor que corta la energ�a
del tomacorriente. 3) Aseg�rese de que la cortadora est� conectada correctamente al cable de carga, que
todas las conexiones est�n firmes y que el interruptor de la cortadora est� en la posici�n "OFF � 0". 4) Si la electricidad est� conectada a un interruptor general, sugerimos desconectar la cortadora del cable de carga cuando el interruptor general est� apagado. Si deja la unidad enchufada a un tomacorriente sin energ�a o un cargador desenchufado, se descargar� la bater�a. 5) Si la cortadora no funciona y tiene la carga completa, encienda la unidad (posici�n "ON � I") y comprima o empuje las cuchillas en forma manual. (Es posible que se haya secado aceite entre las cuchillas y que por eso est�n temporalmente pegadas).)

DESVANECIDO
Cuando desee desvanecer una secci�n con la siguiente, necesitar� practicar c�mo mover la cortadora en un movimiento oscilante hacia arriba. Este movimiento dejar� el cabello levemente m�s largo en la zona en que la cortadora se aleja del cuero cabelludo, permiti�ndole desvanecer la separaci�n entre las secciones y obtener una transici�n uniforme desde una longitud de cabello a la siguiente. Esta t�cnica mejorar� el aspecto de sus cortes de cabello.
1. Desvanezca todas las l�neas de corte. Se pueden formar l�neas en las partes en las que cambia el tama�o del peine protector. Use el mismo peine protector que us� en el paso 3.
2. Con un movimiento oscilante, desvanezca la l�nea media de corte.
3. Con el peine protector que us� en el paso 8, repita el desvanecido en el contorno superior, conforme se requiera.

Como referencia f�cil, cada protector est� numerado, y tambi�n especifica qu� largo tendr� el cabello despu�s de cortarlo con el peine protector del tama�o indicado. Siempre inicie con un protector de m�s longitud (siempre puede utilizar un protector m�s corto si descubre que el cabello no est� lo suficientemente corto). La primera vez que corte el cabello, corte solo una peque�a cantidad hasta que se acostumbre al largo del cabello que logra con cada protector. Para lograr un corte "desvanecido" uniforme alrededor de las orejas, utilice las protecciones con reducci�n IZQUIERDA y DERECHA. Para recortar el pelo de las cejas, use el peine protector BROW (para cejas). Antes de a�adir o retirar protectores de la cortadora, aseg�rese de que el interruptor de energ�a est� apagado (o en la posici�n "0"). No todos los kits incluyen todos los tama�os y estilos de protectores que se indican en este instructivo.

COLOCACI�N: Mientras lo sostiene ligeramente inclinado, coloque el protector sobre la cortadora de manera que las puntas de la cuchilla queden sobre las ranuras en los dientes del protector. (Fig. A) Utilice su pulgar para empujar el protector hacia abajo, en donde se encuentra el n�mero de tama�o, hasta que escuche un chasquido. (Fig. B)
DESMONTAJE: Mientras sostiene la parte superior del protector, coloque su pulgar en la parte inferior de la leng�eta del protector. Levante la leng�eta para sacar el protector de la cortadora. (Fig. C)

PROTECTORES PARA OREJAS: Coloque el peine protector DERECHO (R) en la cortadora como se indic� antes. Comenzando DETR�S de la oreja derecha (de modo que la parte del protector con los dientes m�s cortos est� m�s cerca de la oreja), mueva la cortadora hacia arriba y alrededor, hacia la parte frontal de la oreja, repitiendo el movimiento si es necesario. (Fig. A) Deje el peine protector "R" en la cortadora. Comenzando en la parte DELANTERA de la oreja izquierda (de modo que la parte del protector con los dientes m�s cortos est� m�s cerca de la oreja), mueva la cortadora hacia arriba y alrededor, hacia la parte trasera de la oreja, repitiendo el movimiento si es necesario. Quite el peine protector DERECHO "R" y coloque el peine protector IZQUIERDO "L". Comenzando DETR�S de la oreja izquierda (de modo que la parte del protector con los dientes m�s cortos est� m�s cerca de la oreja), mueva la cortadora hacia arriba y alrededor, hacia la parte frontal de la oreja, repitiendo el movimiento si es necesario. (Fig. C) Deje el peine protector "L" en la cortadora.
