SAFETY

DANGER!
LIQUIFIED PETROLEUM MODELS
Liquid propane has an odorant added to aid in detecting a gas leak. Some people may not physically be able to smell or recognize this odorant. If you are unsure or unfamiliar with the smell of liquid propane, ask the gas supplier. Other conditions, such as "odorant fade", which causes the odorant to diminish in intensity, can also hide or camouflage a gas leak. Always check with commercial leak detector or soapy water. Gas detectors are recommended in liquid propane applications and their installation
should be in accordance with the detector manufacturer's recommendations and/or local laws, rules and regulations. Water heaters utilizing liquid propane gas are different from natural gas models. A natural gas water heater will not function safely on liquid propane gas and vice versa. No attempt should ever be made to convert the tankless water heater from liquid propane to natural gas. To avoid possible equipment damage, personal injury or fire, do not connect the water heater to a fuel type not in accordance with the portable tankless water heater data plate: propane for propane portable tankless water heaters and natural gas for natural gas portable tankless water heaters. These portable tankless water heaters are not certified for any other fuel type. Liquid propane gas must be used with great caution. It is heavier than air and will collect first in lower areas making it hard to detect at nose level. Before attempting to light the water heater, make sure to look and smell for gas leaks. Use a soapy solution to check all gas fittings and connections. Bubbling at a connection indicates a leak that must be corrected. When smelling to detect a gas leak, be sure to sniff near the floor also. It is recommended that more than one method, such as soapy solution, gas detectors, etc., be used to detect leaks in gas applications.
NOTICE!
IF A GAS LEAK IS PRESENT OR SUSPECTED:
DO NOT attempt to find the cause yourself.
DO NOT try to light the water heater.
DO NOT touch any electrical switch.
ADDITIONAL WARNINGS!
1. Do not leave unattended.
2. The exhaust gas and top of the portable tankless water heater is HOT! Do not place hands or any foreign object near the top of the heater.
3. Do not use in high wind conditions.
4. If the smell of gas is detected, turn off the gas valve at the tank immediately! Do not use flame for leak detection.
5. Use only liquid propane.
6. Use only outdoors.
7. Do not over tighten the gas regulator connection to the portable tankless water heater with a wrench. This may cause a crack in the gas regulator.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS MODEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED, NOR HAS IT BEEN TESTED FOR ANY PERMANENT OR INDOOR INSTALLATION. Leak Testing
WARNING: Never use an open flame to test for gas leaks, as property damage, personal injury, or death could result. The tankless water heater and its gas connections must be leak tested at normal operating pressures before it is placed in operation.

Turn on the gas to the tankless water heater from the recommended gas cylinder.

Use a commercial leak detector or soapy water solution to test for leaks at all connections and fittings.
Bubbles indicate a gas leak that must be corrected.
The factory connections should also be leak tested after the tankless water heater is placed in operation cause water damage which may or may not be reparable. Please check the warranty information found on our website at www.eccotemp.com for more information on freezing issues.
Pressure Relief Valve
A new pressure relief valve, complying with the standard for pressure relief valves and automatic gas shut-off Devices for Hot Water Supply Systems, ANSI Z21.22, must be installed at the hot water outlet connection of the tankless water heater at the time of installation. Local codes shall govern the installation of pressure relief valves. The diagram to the right illustrates a pressure only relief valve. If local codes require a combination and pressure relief valve be installed, an extension piece may be required.
For safe operation of the water heater, be sure that:

The pressure rating of the pressure relief valve must not exceed 150 psi, the maximum working pressure of the tankless water heater as marked on the rating plate.

The BTUH rating of the pressure relief valve must equal or exceed the BTUH input of the tankless water heater as marked on its rating plate.

No valve of any type should be installed between the pressure relief valve and the water heater.

The discharge line must be NO SMALLER than the

Warning!
Gasoline, as well as other flammable materials and liquids (adhesives, solvents, paint thinners etc.), and the vapors they produce are extremely dangerous. DO NOT handle, use or store gasoline or other flammable or combustible materials anywhere near or in the vicinity of a water heater or any other appliance. Be sure to read and follow the labels on the water heater, as well as the warnings printed in this manual. Failure to do so can result in property damage, bodily injury or death.

This water heater is for OUTDOOR installation ONLY. It must NOT be installed indoors or in a confined space. An air supply containing halogenated hydrocarbons may be safe to breathe, but when it passes through a gas flame corrosive elements are released that will shorten the life of any gas burning appliance. Propellants from common spray cans or gas leaks from A/C and refrigeration equipment are highly corrosive after passing through a flame and therefore should never be used around the water heater. The tankless water heater warranty is voided when failure of the heater is due to operation in a corrosive atmosphere.

MAINTENANCE

Flushing your Water Heater

It is highly recommended that you clean your Eccotemp portable tankless water heater after every other use or every 3 months to ensure your water heater is running as efficiently as possible. Exposure to unfiltered water can increase your chances of water scale, lime or rust deposit buildup.
To do this we recommend that you use our Eccotemp EZ-Flush Descaler System to flush out any unwanted build-up and sediment. For more information and to purchase please visit us at www.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992.

ECCOTEMP DESCALER

DANGER: Before disconnecting the water supply, make certain no one will be exposed to the danger of the hot water released by disconnecting. The water may be hot enough to create a scald hazard. The water should be released into a suitable drain to prevent injury or property damage.
DANGER: Hotter water increases the potential for hot water scalds.
DANGER: Failure to perform the recommended routine preventative maintenance can harm the proper operation of this water heater, which can cause carbon monoxide dangers, excessive hot water temperatures and other potentially hazardous conditions.

When properly maintained, your water heater will provide years of dependable trouble-free service. It is recommended that a periodic inspection of the burner, water screen and top exhaust should be made by service personnel qualified in gas appliance repair.
It is suggested that a routine preventive maintenance program be established and followed by the user.
Inspect the area around the tankless water heater to ensure a safe operating environment. Keep water heater area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids. Ensure the tankless water heater has not been damaged. If damage or denting is present, contact a service personnel to verify proper operation.
Check for any abnormal sounds during normal operation of the water heater.
All piping should be checked for gas and/or water leaks. Refer to page 4 of this manual for instructions on leak testing.
The air intake and cold water supply screen should be cleaned monthly. Refer to the "Housekeeping" section for further information.
DO NOT operate the tankless water heater if you feel something is wrong with the unit.
DO NOT allow children to operate or otherwise handle the unit.

DO NOT RETURN TO STORE
Visit our Helpdesk at support.eccotemp.com or contact us via email at support@eccotemp.com if you run into a problem.
Troubleshooting
Portable tankless water heater will not start there are no audible clicks at startup:
1. The first thing to check is to ensure that the incoming water is connected to the "right" connection side of the portable tankless water heater. If the incoming and outgoing connections are reversed, the portable tankless water heater will not work. The incoming is on the far right and the outgoing water connection is in the middle.
2. The "On/Off" switch should be with the "-" sign pushed down.
3. Check to make sure you have fresh batteries and they are installed in the correct position.
4. Make sure that you have a minimum of 25 PSI of sustained water pressure. Number one reason that the portable tankless water heater does not ignite is that there is not enough water pressure.
5. Check to ensure that no wires have disconnected inside the portable tankless water heater during shipping. Make sure the gas is OFF and the "On/Off" switch is in the OFF position. The front cover is held on 8 screws: 2 on top holding on the black vent screen, 2 on the upper/back of the rain cap, 2 on the bottom, and 2 inside the top under the rain cap. The knobs pull off. All the wiring is done with push together plastic connectors. They are all visible without further dismantling of the portable tankless water heater. It should be obvious when a wire has become disconnected.
NOTE: Call technical support at 866.356.1992 if unsure how to remove the front cover.
6. It is possible that some debris or epoxy might have entered the water regulator. Check to see if the filter screen on the water inlet is clear of debris. You can also reverse the hookup by taking your water source and hooking it up to the water outlet side and back flushing the system to ensure there is no blockage.
7. If you've checked everything and the water heater still continues to not ignite, you can try a water pressure adjustment as follows: Looking up at the bottom of the portable tankless water heater, you will see 2 oval holes in the case. The hole that is the furthest on the right looks up at the water regulator where you will see two Phillips head screws. Take the screw that is furthest on the right in about a or turn. This will enable the portable tankless water heater to operate on a lower water pressure by restricting flow.
8. There is a simple test that we can help you perform if you are unaware if you have enough water pressure. Please visit the Eccotemp helpdesk at support.eccotemp.com or contact us via email at support@eccotemp.com for additional troubleshooting steps.
9. Propane gas cylinders sometimes are contaminated with air, especially new tanks upon their first filling. Cycle the portable tankless water heater on and off by using the shower head switch several times (5) to purge the air from the gas.
10. Should a portable tankless water heater fail to light or stay lit after 10 cycles, please visit support.eccotemp.com or contact us via email at support@eccotemp.com for additional troubleshooting steps.

TROUBLESHOOTING ENGLISH

Troubleshooting Continued...
Portable tankless water heater will not start but there are audible clicks at startup:
1. The portable tankless water heater requires a minimum of about .75 GPM and a minimum of about 25 PSI. Note: water pressure is at the lower end of operating parameters. You will need a sustained water pressure of approximately 25 60 PSI for adequate use if you are using a 12/18/120 volt pump. See adjustment in previous section.
2. High Wind: for safety reasons the tankless heater will not start in sustained wind. Find an alternate location for the tankless water heater.
3. Out of, or low on gas. Propane gas cylinders sometimes are contaminated with air. Especially new tanks upon their first filling. Cycle the portable tankless water heater on and off by using the shower head switch several times (5) to purge the air from the gas.
4. One of the ignition sensors is bent and/or too close to the burner. Look to ensure that the ignition pins and the heat sensor are completely vertical and they do a 90 degree to the back of the box. If they are not straight (i.e. a 45 degree angle) then you can straighten them with pliers. Please visit support.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter.
5. The gas sensor wire might have come loose or is no longer connected. Please visit support.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter.

The water does not get hot enough:
1. Ensure you are not operating the portable tankless water heater above 2,000 feet. While it has been field tested up to 2,000 feet, we only recommend using it below 2,000 feet. For every 1,000 feet above the recommended 2,000 feet, you will see a 10% decrease in efficiency and performance.
2. Be sure you have your gas knob turned to max and your water knob turned a little lower towards min. The less water moving through the water heater will allow for a higher temperature.
Please note: Your incoming water temperature will play a major role in the achievable temperatures your water heater can reach. The colder the incoming water is, the lower the achievable temperature will be. You'll need to adjust your hot and cold knobs to help counteract the colder incoming water. Variable factors such as incorrect or imperfect installations and varying incoming water temperatures may yield different results.
3. Look into the viewer panes (3 small windows on the front cover) to see if there is a blue flame. If the flame is yellow there could be a cracked gas regulator. DO NOT ATTEMPT to use the portable tankless water heater if a cracked gas regulator is suspected. Visit support.eccotemp.com or call 1-866-356-1992 for assistance with this matter.

Water is flowing, but there is no hot water coming out:
1. Ensure that you have the incoming water supply and the outgoing water supply hooked up properly. Your water supply should be attached to your incoming connection (located on the far right) and the shower head should be attached to the outgoing water connection (located as the center connection).
2. Ensure that you have adequate water pressure of at least 25 PSI sustained.
3. Ensure that you have adequate gas in your propane bottle and that the LP regulator is threaded all of the way onto the portable tankless water heater.
4. Fresh batteries are required for ignition spark. Make sure batteries are aligned in the proper polarity (+/-): flat negative of battery toward the spring side of battery compartment.

The portable tankless water heater will not stay on:
1. The portable tankless water heater requires a minimum of about .75 GPM and a minimum of about 20 PSI to activate and approximately 25 sustained PSI to continue to operate. Consider your water source: Are you using a pump to draw water from a source? Be sure the pump you are using provides adequate sustained water pressure to activate and keep the water heater running.
2. Check that your batteries are fresh and aligned with the proper polarity (+/-): flat negative of battery toward the spring side of the battery compartment.
