Getting Started
1. Firmware Update
Visit cronusmax.com/downloads to download and install the latest Firmware Update Tool. It is crucial to complete this step first.
- Connect the Cronus Zen to your console using the short micro-USB cable.
- Press and hold the Cronus Zen reset button. The OLED screen will display "Zen Bootloader".
- Use the Firmware Update Tool to update the firmware.
Tip: If you encounter an E3001 error, hold the reset button before plugging in the micro-USB cable.
2. Zen Studio Software
Download and install the Zen Studio Software for Windows. Microsoft Windows 10 is recommended. Mac OS requires Bootcamp (refer to the online user guide).
3. Connect Your Console
Connect the Cronus Zen to your console using the short micro-USB cable provided.
4. Register Your Cronus Zen
Click "REGISTER HERE" in Zen Studio to log in or create a Cronus Community account for exclusive access.
5. Pass-Thru Auth Controller
Connect a wired controller that matches your current console to USB Port A1.
6. Connect Crossover Controller
Connect your desired crossover controller to USB Port A2 or A3.
Status Indicators: All connected status LEDs should be on, and the RGB LEDs lit when successfully connected to the console. Xbox = GREEN RGB LED, PS = BLUE RGB LED, Switch = RED RGB LED.
Requirements: A wired, licensed controller matching the console. Wireless controllers can be used with a full data USB cable. Note: Xbox 360 console support requires a fully wired X360 controller; the 'Play and Charge Kit' will not work.
Wired Controller Setup
Connect the Cronus Zen to your console using the appropriate USB cable. Ensure the correct controller is connected to the pass-thru port (A1) and the crossover controller is connected to A2 or A3.
Wireless Controller Setup
Xbox One Wireless Controller
- Insert the Xbox One wireless adapter into USB Port A3 of the Cronus Zen (adapter sold separately).
- Turn on your controller.
- Hold the SYNC Button on the controller.
- Press the Bluetooth Pairing Button [P2] on the Cronus Zen. The Zen RGB LED will flash blue.
- Within seconds, the adapter's LED will turn white, and the controller's Xbox Home Button will stay solid, indicating pairing is complete.
Tip: If the controller doesn't connect, ensure it's unpaired from the Xbox. Connect it to a PC USB port to reset the pairing or remove batteries and repeat the steps.
DualShock 4 (PS4)
- Turn off your controller.
- Hold SHARE + PS until the DS4 Lightbar quickly flashes white.
- Connect the controller to USB Port A2 of the Cronus Zen using the micro-USB cable. It will vibrate to indicate connection.
- Unplug the controller from USB Port A2. The Xbox Home Button will begin to flash.
- Within 30 seconds, the DS4 Lightbar will stop flashing and stay solid, indicating pairing is complete.
Note: Only DUALSHOCK 4 model CUH-ZCT2 supports headsets and the built-in speaker.
Xbox 360 Wireless Controller
- Plug the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver into USB Port A3 of the Cronus Zen (receiver sold separately).
- Turn on the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller.
- Hold the SYNC Button on your controller until the Xbox 360 Guide Button flashes.
- Press the SYNC Button on the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.
- Within seconds, the lights on the Guide Button will stay solid, indicating pairing is complete.
Mouse & Keyboard Setup
- Connect the console pass-thru auth controller to USB Port A1 of the Cronus Zen.
- Connect the Mouse and Keyboard to USB Ports A2 and A3 of the Cronus Zen.
- Connect the Cronus Zen to your computer using the mini-USB Cable.
- Open Zen Studio software and load the M&K Settings Plugin.
- Configure your Game Profile in M&K Settings and finalize the layout.
- Unplug the Cronus Zen from your PC and connect it to your console using the micro-USB cable. Connect a keyboard to A2 or A3 if not done in Step 2.
Tip: You can map keys using your main computer keyboard without connecting it to the Zen.
GamePacks & Scripts
- GamePacks: Pre-compiled mods created by expert gamers. No scripting knowledge is required. Find them in Zen Studio > Programmer.
- Scripts: Thousands of scripts are available in the GPC Script Library, or you can write your own. Find them in Zen Studio > Library.

Troubleshooting
If you encounter an error code due to a bad script or old firmware, unplug all cables from the Zen. Hold down both the P1 and P2 buttons, then plug in the micro-USB cable to the rear CONSOLE USB port. Wait a few seconds; the RGB LEDs will flash RED-GREEN-BLUE, and the Collective Minds Gear Head logo will display on the OLED Message screen.
