Hunter Douglas AERC Rated and Certified Products

Hunter Douglas is the first manufacturer to earn a national energy performance rating and certification for interior window covering products through the Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC). With support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), AERC is the first-ever, third-party verified program to rate, label and certify the energy performance of window attachments.
AERC ENERGY RATINGS EXPLAINED
To understand a homeowner's need, it is important to know how window treatments play a crucial role in providing energy efficiency and comfort in a home. It is also necessary to look at all four ways the AERC measures energy efficiency.
These four measurements include: U-factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) are based on the fabric and shade properties.
Cool Climate Rating and Warm Climate Rating are based on a study* of how homeowners, on average, open and close their shades. Consumers can increase energy savings by following convenient AERC schedules.
U-factor: 0.30 or lower is better SHGC: 0.30 or lower is better Cool Climate Rating: A higher number is better Warm Climate Rating: A higher number is better

U-factor
Measures the rate of heat transfer into or out of the home, reducing the energy needed to warm the home in winter and cool it in summer.
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC)
Measures how well the product blocks heat caused by sunlight. Energy-efficient Hunter Douglas window coverings help to control solar heat by allowing it into your home in the winter on sunny days and minimizing the amount that comes in during the summer.

Cool Climate Rating Rates how well the product performs in a cool climate based on how a homeowner on average moves their shades. The closer to the Max Improvement rating, the less energy is required to heat the home.
Warm Climate Rating Rates how well the product performs in a warm climate based on how a homeowner on average moves their shades. The closer to the Max Improvement rating, the less energy is required to cool the home.

There's more to the ratings than first glance. Here's some helpful information:
Light-Filtering Duette� Architella� Batiste Bamboo �" and 1�", C95/C97 � Compared to other fabrics, Batiste Bamboo has a higher Cool Climate rating. This is due to its high SHGC, the fabric's properties and construction which let a larger amount of solar heat into
the space when the shade is closed. � This also causes lower Warm Climate ratings. In the summer, it's best to limit the amount of solar heat that travels through a closed shade.
Light-Filtering Applause� Double Honeycomb, E5/E28: � Compared to other fabrics, Applause Double Honeycomb shades have a higher Cool Climate rating. This is due to its high SHGC, the fabric's properties and construction which let a larger
amount of solar heat into the space when the shade is closed. � This also causes lower Warm Climate ratings. In the summer, it's best to limit the amount of solar heat that travels through a closed shade. � Consider Duette Architella shades for a balance of Cool and Warm Climate ratings and increased insulation properties.
