Chapter 1: DVR Panel

1.1 Front Panel

The front panel of the DVR features a power button. When the DVR is powered on, the power indicator turns red.

1.2 Rear Panel

The rear panel may vary depending on the model. The following picture is for reference only.

Chapter 2: Installation

2.1 Hard Drive Installation

After the hard disk is installed, the DVR can perform functions such as recording and playback. Without the HDD, you can only live preview the stream.

Note: Power off the DVR before installing the hard drive. If your system already has a hard disk installed, please disregard this procedure.

  1. Step 1: Unscrew the screws and remove the DVR cover.

  2. Step 2: Connect the SATA power and data cables from the DVR to the corresponding ports on your Hard Disk.

  3. Step 3: Place the Hard Disk into the DVR. Ensure any cables do not cross over the Hard Disk.

2.2 System Installation

  1. Step 1: Plug the DVR into a power outlet.

Chapter 3: Operate DVR System on Monitor

3.1 Startup Guide

After connecting the DVR and cameras to power, wait for 2-3 minutes. A Startup guide will start to guide you via a series of pop-up windows. Use the mouse to click "Next" to complete the guide. You can select "No more hints," and next time, it will not prompt the startup guide.

  1. Select the time zone, date format, time format, language, and set the time for the DVR.

  2. The default password is empty; please reset it following the tip. The new password should be more than 6 digits and use a combination of numbers and letters to ensure your system's security.

  3. Complete the safety question for password retrieval in case you forget the password.

  4. Check the network connection. If the network test fails, please click "Retry".

  5. Scan the APP QR code to download the app.

  6. You can check on your phone before mounting the cameras.

  7. Live view the camera feed on the monitor. Click "Next" and "OK" to exit the wizard. After completing the setup wizard, you will see the live feed on your monitor.

3.2 Recording Setup

If you want to loop to display the live feed in full-screen mode, please go to Main Menu > System > Tour to enable this function.

Right-click the mouse to get into the DVR main menu, then navigate to Main menu > Record config.

  • [Channel]: Select the channel to set the record mode and plan. You can select a single channel or all channels.
  • [Redundancy]: Installing 2 pieces of Hard Disk Drive is required when enabling this function. Some models (e.g., HM245) do not support it.
  • [Length]: Set the maximum video length of each recording from 1 minute to 120 minutes. It is 60 minutes by default.
  • [PreRec]: The camera will start recording a video around 5 seconds before it detects motion. You can reset the time from 1s to 30s.
  • [Mode]: Set the recording mode. Options are Schedule, Manual, and Stop.
    • Schedule: The camera will record videos according to your record plan.
    • Manual: The camera will record standard videos 24 hours a day.
    • Stop: The camera will stop recording videos.
  • [Record Plan]: Set the recording schedules.
    • Day and Period 1/2/3/4: Set the time period(s) of each day to record different types of videos.
    • Regular: The system will continuously record standard videos during the time period(s) you set.
    • Detect: The camera will start recording a video when it detects motion during the time period(s) you set.
    • Alarm: An extra alarm device is required for this type of video.

3.3 Video Playback

1. Common Playback

Right-click the mouse to get into the DVR main menu > playback.

Options for playback:

  • Option 1: Left-click on the Green/Red part of the timeline (Green for standard videos, Red for motion detected videos) of each channel to play historical videos.
  • Option 2: Left-click on the live video of one channel, show the filtered video list, then double-click on the selected video to play it.

2. Sync Playback

Select different channels and select the date to playback the video at the same time.

3. Dayparting

This playback mode allows you to play videos from the same channel but at different times. Select a channel, number of splitter screens, and a period to play the videos recorded from this channel on different timelines.

4. Intelligent Fast Playback

Select a channel, then select the speed of Fast Playback. You can play back videos (alarm, detect file type) with the speed you selected.

5. Intelligent Retrieval Setting

You can playback motion-detected videos according to the channel and time you selected.

3.4 Video Backup

Before backing up video, you need a USB flash drive (USB Drive format should be FAT32). Insert the flash disk into the DVR USB port.

Step 1: Right-click the mouse to get into DVR menu > System > Backup.

Step 2: Click "Detect," select the device, and click "Backup." Select the channel, start time, and end time, then click "Add." You will see the video list. Select the list you want to backup. Choose AVI as the backup format and click "Start."

3.5 Motion Detection Recording

Right-click to get into DVR menu > Alarm > Motion detect.

  • [Channel]: Select the channel you'd like to enable motion detection for.
  • [Enable]: Turn on to enable motion detection.
  • [Sensitivity]: If you select higher sensitivity, the camera will be more easily triggered to start recording videos. It is advised to select "Middle" to balance accuracy and effectiveness, thus reducing false alarms.
  • [Region]: Click "Set," then press and hold the left mouse button to drag and select the area for detecting. The pink area indicates the selected area.
  • [Period]: Set up to 4 time periods for each day to send alerts when the camera detects motion.
  • [MD Interval]: Set the time interval between two alerts. This aims to decrease the frequency of alerts caused by the same moving object.
  • [PTZ Activation]: This function is not supported by the system.
  • [PostRec]: The camera will remain to record for around 10 seconds after motion detection ends. You can set the time from 10s to 300s.
  • [Show Message]: After enabling this function, the display will pop up a window to show the Alarm Status for all kinds of alarms when cameras detect motion.
  • [Send Email]: Before enabling this function, please go to Main Menu > Network > Net Service, then double-click on the EMAIL option to set up your email address to receive alerts.
  • [Write Log]: The logs of the alerts will be written into the system once you enable this function. You can go to Main Menu > Advanced > Log to check the detailed log information.
  • [Mobile reported]: The system will send alerts to your mobile device when the camera detects motion.

Chapter 4: Remote Access

4.1 Remote Access on Mobile Device

  1. Please note that the DVR must be connected to a router, and check if the transmission lights on the RJ45 port of the DVR are showing correctly (solid green and blinking orange).
  2. Check the network connection. Right-click the mouse > Startup Wizard > Next > Next, to get into Net Test.

If the DVR NAT status is connected, you can download the app by scanning the QR Code.

Download the app

Search for the app "XMEye Pro" on the app store or Google Play, or scan the QR Code to download the app.

Step 1: Launch the app on your phone and click "Register" to create an account. Please type your email address and click "Get Code."

Step 2: Log in to the app with your username and password, click "+", and then select "NVR" to add DVR info.

Fill in the required information and click "OK".

After you add the device successfully, you will see the device info. Click [play icon] to watch the camera feed.

4.2 Push Notification on App

Step 1: Enable motion detection on DVR.

Right-click to get into DVR menu > Alarm > Motion detect. Check the "Enable" and "Mobile reported" boxes and click "OK".

Step 2: Enable push notification on the app. Click Alarm > Settings > Turn on "Allow Notifications".

4.3 Remote Access on PC via Internet Explorer

Run Internet Explorer on your PC and type the IP address of the DVR. Right-click the mouse > Main Menu > Network. You will see the DVR IP address.

You will need to install the IE ActiveX on your PC for the first time.

Click "Download" to download the "NewActive.exe" on your PC. After it downloads successfully, refresh the webpage and type the IP address again.

User name: admin

Password: Your DVR login password.

Chapter 5: FAQs

Q1: What should I do if I forgot the password?

Please click "Forgot Password" when logging into the DVR system. The system will ask you the security questions you set in the Startup Wizard; please enter the correct answer to reset your password.

If you forget the answer, please click "Forget Answer," and a code will be sent to your reserved email. Type the code and click "OK".

Then you can set a new password.

Click "Next" to set up the safety question and click "OK" to complete.

Q2: How to stop the live video from channels looping to pop up on the full screen?

Please go to Main Menu > System > Tour to see if you have enabled the "Tour" setting. Please disable it. Also, please check if you have enabled "Tour" on motion detection and video loss configuration (Main menu > Alarm). Please do not select any channels for the tour function.

Q3: How to restore the DVR to factory setting?

Please go to Main Menu > Advanced > Restore. Click "Restore" and select "All"; the DVR will restore to default.

Q4: How to set up motion detection recording only?

The system's default recording mode is 24/7 recording. You can set it up for motion detection recording only. Go to Main menu > Record conf, select "Detect," and don't forget to enable the motion detection function: Main menu > Alarm > Motion detect > Enable.

Q4: Why I can't receive a snapshot when motion is detected?

Under motion detect setup, you have to enable "Mobile reported".
