Installation
Prior to Installation
- Remove the old shower head and all pipe tape from the shower arm.
- Ensure that the washer from the old shower head is not lodged inside the shower arm. Use a thin utensil (like a pencil or screwdriver) to check inside the shower arm for any remaining washers. Do not use your fingers.
- Gather the necessary tools for installing your new shower head.
Tools You May Need
Tools may be needed for removal of the old shower head or tightening the new one. Common tools include:
- Adjustable Wrench or Pliers (not included)
- Soft Cloth (not included)
Note: Pipe tape is not recommended for installation.
Installation Steps
The installation involves connecting the shower head to the shower arm via the hose and bracket. Key components include the shower arm, washer, filter screen, pivot ball, bracket, ridged hose connector, hose connector, and the hand-held shower head itself.
- Tighten the pivot ball to the shower arm. Ensure the large nut is secure by hand tightening.
- Connect the ridged hose connector to the bracket and hand tighten. If you have smooth hose connectors, choose either end of the hose and hand tighten it to the bracket.
- Connect the other end of the hose, with the rubber ring, to the hand-held shower head and hand tighten.
- Place the hand-held shower head securely in the bracket.
Vacuum Breaker Backflow Prevention
Note: Several U.S. state and local municipal plumbing codes require a backflow prevention device (vacuum breaker) when installing a hand shower. If your hose includes a vacuum breaker, it will be marked with a sticker indicating "attach this vacuum breaker end to shower bracket." Proper connection is essential for water flow. If your hose does not have one and you need one, contact Water Pik at 1-800-525-2774 (U.S. calls only) and request part number 20009558.
Spray Selection
The spray selector allows you to choose from various spray patterns. Depending on your model, this may be controlled by a small lever, a rotating trim ring around the face of the shower head, or a rotating ring on the handle (EasySelect® Spray Selector).
Some models feature an EasySelect® switch on the handle that controls both spray patterns and a pause feature. Moving the switch up cycles through spray settings; moving it down pauses the water flow to a trickle.
Flow Control Features for Select Models
Pause in Handle
Certain models include a water-saving pause feature in the handle. This allows you to control water flow from full power to a water-saving trickle. This control is located on the handle.
Note: The pause button does not shut off water flow completely. A small continuous flow is necessary to meet plumbing code requirements.
Warnings
- To prevent scalding and conserve energy, set your water heater to 120°F (48.9°C) or below.
- Always test the water temperature with your hand before bathing.
- For enhanced safety with high-efficiency shower heads, it is recommended to have a pressure-balance tub and shower valve with properly set rotational limit stops installed by a plumber. Consult your plumber if unsure about your valve type.
- For external use only. Be aware that the amoeba Naegleria fowleri, which can be deadly, may be present in some tap water or unchlorinated well water.
- Always ensure the hand-held shower head is securely placed in its bracket to prevent it from falling.
- Do not pull or tug on the flexible hose, as this could cause the shower head to become loose and fall.
Care and Cleaning
Regular cleaning is required to maintain proper working conditions, especially when mineral deposits appear on the spray orifices.
- To clean mineral deposits, gently rub the rubber nozzles on the face of the shower head to dislodge them.
- For heavier deposits, remove the shower head and soak its face down in 1-2 cups of white vinegar for 2-3 hours. Reinstall the shower head and run water through each spray mode for 1-2 minutes to flush out any vinegar residue. Repeat as needed.
- Do not clean or rinse any part with harsh chemicals, heavy-duty cleaners, or abrasives, as this may damage parts or the finish and will void the warranty.
- To clean the filter screen, unscrew it from the pivot ball and rinse it by back-flushing to remove particles. Reinstall the shower head following the installation steps, ensuring the washer is properly seated on top of the filter screen.
Troubleshooting Guide
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No water flow from installed shower head. | a. Confirm the previous shower head washer is not in the shower arm. b. Confirm only one washer is present in the pivot ball. |
| Low water pressure or missing spray patterns. | a. Clean the shower head in a vinegar/water solution (see Care & Cleaning section). b. Clean the filter screen. |
| Leaking at pipe/pivot ball connection. | a. Confirm only one washer is seated on top of the filter screen. b. Rub a bar of soap across the shower arm threads to act as a sealant. c. Ensure all pipe tape is removed from the shower arm. Refer to installation instructions for pipe tape guidance. |
| Bracket is too stiff to change angle. | Loosen the bracket nut. Contact Water Pik for further instructions. |
