The Sena Expand Boom package includes:

Key components of the headset include:
- Speaker: Located on the right side.
- Boom Microphone: Located on the left side, with a fin for orientation.
- (+) Button / (-) Button: Used for volume adjustment, navigating menus, and MP3 track control.
- Center Button: Used for play/pause music, answering/ending calls, rejecting calls, starting/ending intercom, entering configuration menus, and pairing modes.
- Status LED: Indicates device status.
- Charging LED: Indicates charging status (Red while charging, Blue when fully charged).
2 Getting Started
2.1 Wearing the Sena Expand Boom
Proper fit is crucial for comfort and optimal noise reduction. The speaker with the microphone should be placed on the left ear. Position the earhooks over your ears and pull the microphone towards your lips, ensuring the talk side faces inward. The microphone has a fin to help orient it outward, away from your lips.
2.2 Sena Device Manager
The Sena Device Manager software allows firmware upgrades and settings configuration via PC or Apple computer. Download it from www.sena.com.
2.3 Powering On
Press and hold the Center Button and the (+) Button simultaneously for 1 second.
2.4 Powering Off
Tap the Center Button and the (+) Button simultaneously.
2.5 Volume Adjustment
Tap the (+) Button or the (-) Button to adjust volume. A beep indicates maximum or minimum volume. Volume levels are maintained independently for each audio source.
2.6 Charging
The charging LED is red while charging and turns blue when fully charged. Charging takes approximately 2.5 hours. The headset can be used while charging.
2.7 Low Battery Warning
When the battery is low, the blue LED in standby mode turns red, accompanied by triple mid-tone beeps and a "Low battery" voice prompt.
2.8 Checking the Battery Level
Upon powering on, the red LED flashes rapidly to indicate battery level:
- 4 flashes: High (70-100%)
- 3 flashes: Medium (30-70%)
- 2 flashes: Low (0-30%)
3 Pairing the Expand Boom with Bluetooth Devices
Pairing is required for the first connection with Bluetooth devices like mobile phones, stereo devices (MP3 players), or adapters (Sena SR10, SM10). Once paired, the headset automatically connects to devices within range, indicated by a high-tone beep and a voice prompt ("Phone connected" or "Media connected").
3.1 Mobile Phone Pairing
There are three methods for phone pairing:
3.1.1 Initially Pairing the Expand Boom
The headset enters pairing mode automatically on first power-on or after a factory/delete all pairings reset.
- Press and hold the Center Button and (+) Button for 1 second. A "Phone pairing" prompt will be heard.
- On your mobile phone, search for Bluetooth devices and select "Expand Boom".
- Enter "0000" for the PIN if prompted.
Note: Tap the Center Button to cancel phone pairing.
3.1.2 Pairing When the Expand Boom is Turned Off
- With the headset off, press and hold the Center Button and (+) Button for 5 seconds until "Phone pairing" is heard.
- Search for Bluetooth devices on your mobile phone and select "Expand Boom".
- Enter "0000" for the PIN if prompted.
3.1.3 Pairing When the Expand Boom is Turned On
- With the headset on, press and hold the Center Button for 8 seconds until "Phone pairing" is heard.
- Search for Bluetooth devices on your mobile phone and select "Expand Boom".
- Enter "0000" for the PIN if prompted.
3.2 Multipoint Pairing
Allows connection to two HFP devices simultaneously (e.g., two mobile phones or a phone and an SR10 adapter). To enable:
- Enter the voice configuration menu by pressing and holding the Center Button for 12 seconds until "Configuration menu" is heard.
- Tap the (+) Button until "Multipoint pairing" is heard.
- Pair a second device (mobile phone or SR10) following standard Bluetooth pairing procedures.
The headset will confirm pairing with "Your headset is paired".
3.3 Bluetooth Stereo Device Pairing
If your mobile phone supports Bluetooth stereo, it will pair automatically as a stereo device when paired as a phone. For standalone stereo devices, follow the same pairing procedure as for mobile phones (Section 3.1).
Notes:
- To recover a disconnected phone connection, press and hold the Center Button for 3 seconds.
- To recover a disconnected media connection, press and hold the Center Button for 1 second to resume playback.
3.4 Pairing with the Sena SR10 Bluetooth Two-way Radio Adapter
Pair the Expand Boom with an SR10 adapter for group communication. This allows simultaneous connection to a mobile phone and the SR10.
- Enter the voice configuration menu (hold Center Button for 12 seconds).
- Tap the (+) Button until "Multipoint pairing" is heard.
- Follow the SR10's "Bluetooth Headset Pairing" procedure.
Incoming audio from the two-way radio is heard in the background during calls or intercom.
3.5 Pairing with Selective Profile: HFP or A2DP Stereo
For advanced users, you can selectively pair for either phone calls (HFP) or stereo music (A2DP). This requires clearing previous pairing lists on both the headset and the phone.
3.5.1 Phone Selective Pairing: HFP for Phone Call Only
- Enter configuration menu (hold Center Button for 12 seconds).
- Tap (+) Button until "Phone selective pairing" is heard.
- Search for devices on your smartphone, select "Expand Boom", and enter "0000" for PIN.
3.5.2 Media Selective Pairing: A2DP Stereo Music Only
- Enter configuration menu (hold Center Button for 12 seconds).
- Tap (+) Button until "Media selective pairing" is heard.
- Search for devices on your smartphone, select "Expand Boom", and enter "0000" for PIN.
4 Mobile Phone Call Making and Answering
4.1 Mobile Phone Call Making and Answering
- Answer Call: Tap the Center Button.
- End Call: Press and hold the Center Button for 2 seconds.
- Reject Call: Press and hold the Center Button for 2 seconds while ringing.
- Make Call:
- Dial from your phone; the call transfers to the headset.
- Activate voice dialing by pressing and holding the Center Button for 3 seconds (requires phone support).
Note: Tap the Center Button to cancel voice dialing or redialing. If connected to two phones via multipoint, you can answer the second phone's call while on the first.
4.2 Speed Dialing
Access speed dial via voice menu:
- Press and hold the (+) Button for 3 seconds to enter the "Speed dial" menu.
- Tap (+) Button or (-) Button to navigate.
- Tap Center Button to select: Last number redial, Speed dial 1, 2, 3, or Cancel.
- To redial the last number, select "Last number redial" and tap Center Button.
- To call a speed dial, navigate to "Speed dial (#)" and tap Center Button.
- To exit, navigate to "Cancel" and tap Center Button.
Note: Ensure the phone is connected to use speed dial.
5 Stereo Music
5.1 Bluetooth Stereo Music
Listen to stereo music from your Bluetooth device. Control playback and volume:
- Adjust Volume: Tap (+) Button or (-) Button.
- Play/Pause Music: Press and hold the Center Button for 1 second.
- Next/Previous Track: Press and hold the (+) Button or (-) Button for 1 second.
5.2 Music Sharing
Share music with an intercom friend during a two-way intercom conversation.
- Start/Terminate Sharing: Press and hold the Center Button for 1 second during intercom.
- Track Forward/Back: Press and hold the (+) Button or (-) Button for 1 second.
Notes:
- Both users can control music playback remotely.
- Music playback pauses for incoming calls, phone calls, or GPS instructions.
6 Intercom
6.1 Pairing with Other Sena Expand Boom Headsets for Intercom Conversation
Pair with up to three other headsets for intercom.
- Turn on two headsets (A and B).
- Press and hold the Center Button for 5 seconds until "Intercom pairing" is heard.
- Tap the Center Button on either headset. LEDs turn blue, and connection is established.
The headset pairing queue is "Last-Come, First-Served".

6.2 Two-way Intercom
6.2.1 Start and End Two-way Intercom
- Start Intercom: Tap Center Button once (1st friend), twice (2nd friend), or three times (3rd friend).
- End Intercom: Single tap the Center Button.

6.2.2 Intercom and Mobile Phone Call
- Incoming Call during Intercom: Hear ring tone. Options: answer (stops intercom), reject (continues intercom), or ignore (caller goes to voicemail). Answering a call and hanging up automatically resumes intercom. Rejecting requires holding the Center Button for 2 seconds.
- Incoming Intercom during Call: Hear 4 high-tone beeps and "Intercom requested". Intercom has lower priority than a mobile call. You must end the mobile call to engage in intercom.
6.2.3 Intercom and Two-way Radio
Use a two-way radio (via Sena SR10 adapter) simultaneously with intercom. Incoming radio audio plays in the background without interrupting intercom conversations.

6.3 Three-way Intercom
6.3.1 Start Three-way Intercom
Connect with two friends (B & C) for a three-way conference. Mobile phone connections may be temporarily disconnected but reconnect automatically when the intercom ends or a participant leaves. An incoming mobile call during a conference requires terminating the conference to receive it.
- Ensure you (A) are paired with friends B and C.
- Start an intercom with one friend (e.g., A with B).
- The second friend (C) can join by calling A.

6.3.2 End Three-way Intercom
- Terminate Entire Conference: Press and hold the Center Button for 1 second.
- Disconnect One Friend: Tap the Center Button once (disconnects 1st friend), or tap twice (disconnects 2nd friend, which also disconnects the 3rd friend connected via the 2nd).

6.3.3 Three-way conference phone call with intercom participants
Add an intercom friend to a mobile phone call for a three-way conference call. To disconnect the intercom and return to a private phone call, tap the Center Button once. To end the phone call and keep the intercom, press and hold the Center Button for 2 seconds.

6.4 Four-way Intercom
6.4.1 Start Four-way Intercom
Extend a three-way intercom to four-way by adding a fourth participant (D) who is a friend of one of the existing participants (e.g., friend of C).

6.4.2 End Four-way Intercom
- Terminate Entire Conference: Press and hold the Center Button for 1 second.
- Disconnect One Friend: Tap the Center Button once (disconnects 1st friend), or tap twice (disconnects 2nd friend, which also disconnects the 3rd participant connected via the 2nd).

6.5 Intercom Failure
If an intercom is busy (conference or phone call), a low tone double beep is heard. Try again later.
6.6 Intercom Reconnection
If a friend goes out of range, static may occur, leading to disconnection. The headset automatically attempts reconnection every 8 seconds, indicated by high tone double beeps. Tap the Center Button to stop reconnection attempts.
7 Universal Intercom
Engage in intercom conversations with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets that support the Hands-Free Profile (HFP). Working distance may vary.
Note: Some non-Sena headsets may not support Multi-Way Universal Intercom.
7.1 Universal Intercom Pairing
Pair with non-Sena Bluetooth headsets:
- Turn on both Sena Expand Boom and the non-Sena headset.
- Enter configuration menu (hold Center Button for 12 seconds).
- Tap the (-) Button until "Universal intercom pairing" is heard.
- Follow the non-Sena headset's HFP pairing procedure. The Expand Boom will automatically pair.
7.2 Two-way Universal Intercom
Initiate intercom with non-Sena headsets using the same tap sequence as with Sena headsets (single tap for 1st friend, double for 2nd, triple for 3rd). Non-Sena headsets can initiate calls or redial.
7.3 Three-way Universal Intercom
Connect two Sena Expand Booms and one non-Sena headset. Mobile phone connections are temporarily disabled during intercom but reconnect automatically when the intercom ends. Incoming phone calls cannot be answered during an intercom call.

7.4 Four-way Universal Intercom
Supports various configurations, including three Sena Expand Booms and one non-Sena headset, or two Sena Expand Booms and two non-Sena headsets. Pairing and operation are similar to normal four-way intercom calls.
7.4.1 Four-way Universal Intercom Case 1

8 Function Priority
The Sena Expand Boom prioritizes functions as follows (highest to lowest):
- Mobile phone
- Intercom
- Music sharing by Bluetooth stereo music
- Bluetooth stereo music
Lower priority functions are interrupted by higher priority ones (e.g., music by intercom, intercom by mobile phone call).
9 Configuration Setting
Configure settings via voice menu:
- Enter configuration menu by pressing and holding the Center Button for 12 seconds (LED solid blue, high tone double beeps, "Configuration menu" prompt).
- Tap (+) Button or (-) Button to navigate menu items.
- Tap Center Button to enable/disable features or execute commands.
- To exit immediately, press and hold (+) Button or (-) Button until "Exit configuration" is heard, then tap Center Button.
Available menu items include:
- 1. Multipoint pairing
- 2. Phone selective pairing
- 3. Media selective pairing
- 4. Speed dial
- 5. Voice prompt
- 6. Noise control
- 7. Delete all pairings

9.1 Multipoint Pairing
Navigate to "Multipoint pairing" and tap Center Button to enter mode. Refer to Section 3.2.
9.2 Phone Selective Pairing
Navigate to "Phone selective pairing" and tap Center Button to enter mode. Refer to Section 3.5.1.
9.3 Media Selective Pairing
Navigate to "Media selective pairing" and tap Center Button to enter mode. Refer to Section 3.5.2.
9.4 Assigning Speed Dial
- Navigate to "Speed dial" and tap Center Button.
- Select speed dial number (1-3) and tap Center Button.
- Make the call to the desired number; it will be saved as a speed dial.
- To exit, navigate to "Cancel" and tap Center Button.
9.5 Enabling/Disabling Voice Prompts
Navigate to "Voice prompt" and tap Center Button to enable/disable. Some prompts (settings, battery, reset) are always active.
9.6 Enabling/Disabling Advanced Noise Control™
Navigate to "Noise control" and tap Center Button to enable/disable. Enabled mode reduces background noise during intercom.
9.7 Delete All Bluetooth Pairing Information
Navigate to "Delete all pairings" and tap Center Button to clear all Bluetooth pairings.
9.8 Universal Intercom Pairing
Navigate to "Universal Intercom Pairing" and tap Center Button to enter mode. Refer to Section 7.1.
9.9 Reset to Factory Default Setting
Navigate to "Factory reset" and tap Center Button to restore default settings. The headset will power off with a "Headset reset, goodbye" prompt.
9.10 Exit Voice Configuration Menu
Navigate to "Exit configuration" and tap Center Button to return to standby mode.

10 Firmware Upgrade
Upgrade firmware via the Sena website (www.sena.com) for the latest software downloads.

11 Troubleshooting
11.1 Fault Reset
If the headset is not working correctly:
- Rotate the speaker pad of the left headset counter-clockwise to detach it.
- Insert a paper clip into the pinhole reset button and tap it lightly for a second. The headset will switch off. Turn it back on. This does not restore factory defaults.

11.2 Factory Reset
To restore factory default settings, use the "Factory Reset" option in the configuration menu. The headset will automatically reset and turn off.
