This document provides setup instructions, operational guidance, safety information, and warranty details for the Polk DSB1 Sound Bar and the Polk DSB2 Wireless Subwoofer.

Sound Bar & Remote Buttons

The sound bar and its remote control feature several buttons for operation:

LED Guide

Four LEDs on the front of the sound bar indicate status:

  • Power: Active source (white) displayed for 3 seconds, then fades. Sleep/Standby: No LED pulse.
  • Source Select:
    • Optical (Source 1): LED 1 flashes green for Dolby Digital recognition/playback; solid green during playback. White in PCM mode.
    • Analog (Source 2): LEDs 1 and 2 shine white.
    • Bluetooth (Source 3): LEDs 1, 2, and 3 shine white when connected; pulse during discovery mode.
  • Volume: Each LED represents 7 volume steps (28 total). Max volume: all LEDs flash once. Min volume/mute: far-left LED flashes once per second. Mute: LED 1 flashes 1x/sec.
  • Learning Mode: LEDs 1-4 cycle on/off during programming. Shine white when a button is selected. Flash white with each press during learning. Command Learned: LED 1 flashes green 2x. Command Fail: LEDs 1&3 flash, then 2&4 (repeats 3x). Command Erased: LED 1 blinks green, then white 3x.

Remote Learning / SmartBar™ Programming

To control your sound bar with your TV's remote, you must first program it to recognize the TV's IR remote commands.

  1. Turn on the sound bar.
  2. Press and hold the 'Source Select' button on the sound bar for 3 seconds until LEDs 1-4 cycle on/off.
  3. Press and release the desired command button (e.g., 'Volume Up') on the sound bar. LEDs 1-4 shine white.
  4. Hold your TV remote 1-2 feet away from the sound bar.
  5. Tap the corresponding button on your TV remote 4-8 times, once per second.
  6. The sound bar will indicate success (LED 1 flashes green 2x) or failure.

Code Erasing: Press and hold the 'Source' button for 10 seconds while in standby mode to erase all learned codes.

Wall Mounting Your Sound Bar

Ensure wall anchors are secure and can bear the weight of the sound bar. Dimensions:

  • Height: 3 7/16" (8.73 cm)
  • Length: 31" (78.74 cm)
  • Keyhole Slot Width: 19 13/16" (50.32 cm)
  • Top of Bar to Keyhole Slots: 1 5/16" (3.33 cm)

Adjust Bass Volume on Bar

Press and hold MUTE, then press VOLUME UP or DOWN. LED 1 flashes with button press. Flashes 1x at minimum volume. All LEDs flash white 1x at maximum volume.

Connecting Your Sound Bar to Your TV

Source 1: Digital Optical Hookup

Connect the DIGITAL OPTICAL AUDIO OUTPUT from your TV to the OPT port on the sound bar using a digital optical cable.

Source 2: Analog Hookup

Connect the ANALOG AUDIO OUTPUT (L/R) from your TV to the AUX port on the sound bar using an analog audio cable.

Pair and Connect (Bluetooth)

You only need to pair your sound bar with a Bluetooth device once. The bar can store up to 8 devices.

  1. Ensure the Bluetooth device and sound bar are powered on.
  2. Activate Bluetooth on your source device.
  3. Press the Bluetooth button on the remote or the source button on the bar until Bluetooth (Source 3) is selected. LEDs 1, 2, and 3 will pulse slowly.
  4. Select "Polk DSB1 Sound Bar" from your device's Bluetooth list.
  5. Connection is confirmed by a short tone and solid white LEDs 1, 2, and 3.
  6. Play your music.

To disconnect: Press the Bluetooth button on the remote or source button on the bar, or turn off Bluetooth on your device.

Automatic Connection: The bar will automatically connect to the last paired device when Bluetooth is active on both.

Note Regarding Wireless Performance

Wireless performance can be affected by other devices operating in the 2.4GHz band (microwaves, Wi-Fi, etc.). Maintain a distance of several feet between devices to minimize interference. If signal dropouts occur, identify and resolve the cause, often proximity of other wireless devices.

Warning: Listen Carefully

Polk loudspeakers can produce extremely high volumes that may cause hearing damage. Polk Audio, Inc. is not liable for hearing loss or injury resulting from misuse. Limit prolonged exposure to volumes exceeding 85 decibels (dB).

Important Safety Instructions

This product was designed and manufactured to meet strict quality and safety standards. Please review and adhere to all safety instructions listed in the inside cover of the Polk DSB1 Sound Bar Setup Guide.

Where to locate your subwoofer for the best sound

The wireless subwoofer is easy to place anywhere. It only requires a power cord connection. Placing it in a corner can reinforce bass output.

Subwoofer and Bar Syncing

A slow blinking green LED on the sound bar and subwoofer indicates they are searching for each other. If they cannot connect, both LEDs will flash rapidly.

To pair:

  1. Unplug the subwoofer.
  2. Turn on the sound bar and press and hold the sync button on the back for 3 seconds (LED flashes rapidly).
  3. Plug in the subwoofer.
  4. The subwoofer's LED will flash rapidly as it syncs.
  5. Both LEDs will shine solid green when synced.

Operation

The subwoofer is always on when plugged in.

Status LED Indicators:

  • ON: Solid green (synced)
  • STANDBY: Solid red
  • PROTECTION MODE: Flashing red
  • SEARCHING FOR SYNCED DEVICE: Slow green flashing
  • PAIRING TO DEVICE: Rapid green flashing

Bass Control

Remote Control: Use the Bass UP and DOWN buttons.

Bar Buttons: Press and hold MUTE, then press VOLUME UP or DOWN to control subwoofer volume. The bar's LED #1 flashes green with each press. All LEDs flash quickly 2x for maximum volume; LED #1 flashes white quickly 2x for minimum volume.

Fine Tuning Your Subwoofer Bass Level

Adjust the subwoofer volume to blend with the sound bar for optimal sound. Play various audio sources (music, movies) and adjust bass until it sounds natural in your listening environment.

Regulatory and Warranty Information

Safety and Compliance

This equipment complies with FCC Rules Part 15 and Industry Canada License-exempt RSS standards. Operation is subject to conditions that prevent harmful interference. Warnings regarding RF exposure, battery handling (do not ingest, keep away from children), and potential cancer-causing chemicals (California) are provided.

Important Safety Instructions: Always read and follow instructions, keep away from water, use dry cloth for cleaning, do not block vents, avoid heat sources, do not defeat safety plugs, protect power cords, use only manufacturer-specified accessories, use with appropriate carts/stands, unplug during storms or long periods of non-use, refer servicing to qualified personnel, do not open the unit, do not expose to rain/moisture, use at max 35°C ambient temperature.

European Union Compliance: The product bears the CE mark and complies with relevant EU directives (Low Voltage, EMC, RoHS, WEEE, Eco-design, REACH, R&TTE).

Limited Warranty

Polk Audio warrants the original retail purchaser against defects in material and workmanship.

  • Loudspeakers, Crossover Components, Enclosure: 3 years from date of original retail purchase.
  • Amplifier or Other Electronic Components: 1 year from date of original retail purchase.

This warranty is void if the product is sold or transferred to another party, or if the serial number is removed or defaced. To obtain warranty service, proof of purchase is required. The warranty does not cover damage from accident, misuse, abuse, negligence, improper packing/shipping, commercial use, voltage surges, cosmetic damage, or unauthorized service/modification.

This warranty applies to products purchased in the USA, its possessions, and U.S./NATO forces exchanges. For products purchased elsewhere, contact local authorized distributors.
