Intended Use
This laminator is designed for use with thermal laminating pouches to laminate paper or flat paper-like items between two film layers. It is intended for home, home office, or small office use.
Items not intended for use: currency, Social Security cards, thermal papers, stamps, credit cards, cards with a magnetic strip, sharp objects, unheatable plastic, historically valuable papers, or one-of-a-kind items.
Operating Instructions
- Place the laminator on a flat, secure, stable surface.
- Plug the power cord into a standard 120V outlet.
- Move the power switch to the "on" position. Ensure the red power light is illuminated.
- Adjust the Heat Setting switch as necessary. Use the 3 mil setting for standard printer paper or lighter items. Use the 5 mil setting for photo paper, business cards, and other thick items.
- Wait for the green ready light to come on.
- Insert the item to be laminated into a Scotch™ Thermal Laminating Pouch, ensuring borders are even on all sides. A minimum border of 1/8 inch (3 mm) on all sides is suggested (See Figure 2, Figure 3).
- Adjust input tray guides to match the width of your laminating pouch.
- Insert the pouch with the item, sealed-edge first, straight into the laminator inlet. Hold the pouch until the machine moves it forward (See Figure 4).
- The laminated item will exit the outlet. Do not pull the pouch through the laminator. If the pouch jams, hold down the jam release lever and pull the pouch through.
- Remove the pouch after it has stopped moving and is cool to the touch (See Figure 5).
- When finished laminating, move the power switch to the "off" position.
Sealed Edge: Ensure the pouch is inserted with the sealed edge first. A minimum border of 1/8" (3mm) is recommended on all sides for proper sealing (Figure 2, Figure 3).
Figure 4 Description: Illustrates inserting the pouch, sealed edge first, into the laminator inlet.
Figure 5 Description: Shows the laminated item exiting the laminator outlet.
General Use Instructions
- Use 3 to 10 mil thick pouches. Using pouches thinner or thicker than this range may cause jamming or affect lamination quality (e.g., bubbling).
- If the laminator has been on for over an hour without use, insert a piece of copy paper to remove excess heat before laminating your item. This prevents overheating and inferior results.
- If white spots appear or the laminated pouch looks hazy, run the item through the laminator again, sealed end first.
- Items must be laminated on both sides. Single-side lamination can cause the film to roll into the machine, potentially making it unusable.
- DO NOT insert the open end of the pouch into the machine, as this can cause it to become rolled inside.
Care and Maintenance
- Wait for the laminator to cool down and unplug it before cleaning. Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth to remove dust.
- The roller heater is fragile. DO NOT DROP or impact the machine.
- Store the laminator in a cool, dry place.
Cautions
- Place the unit on a flat, secure, stable surface.
- The laminating machine and laminated items can become hot during use. It is not intended for use by unsupervised children. Do not leave the laminator unattended while turned on or in use. Allow the machine to cool before moving. Allow laminated items to cool before removing them. Do not cover vent holes on the bottom of the machine while it is in use.
- To reduce the potential for electrical shock:
- Do not operate the laminating machine if it has a damaged power cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has been dropped or damaged.
- Do not use the laminator in wet environments. The unit is intended for indoor use only.
- Do not remove the outer housing or attempt to service or repair the machine yourself.
- Keep the power cord away from hot surfaces.
- Connect the laminator to a standard 120V outlet.
- Unplug the machine from the electrical outlet before moving it or when it is not in use for an extended period of time.
