I Battery cautions
' CAUTION! NEVER short terminals oi the battery pack (or charg-
ing terminals ol the transceiver). Also, current may flow into nearby
metal objects such as necklace. So be carelul when placing bat-
tery packs (orthe transceiver) in handbags, etc.
Simply carrying With or placing near metal objects such as neck-
lace, etc. causes shorting. This will damage not only the battery
pack but also the transceiver.
' NEVER incinerate used battery packs. internal battery gas may
cause an explosion.
- NEVER immerse the battery pack in water. If the batten] pack be-
comes wet, be sure to wipe it dry BEFORE attaching it to the
transceiver.
~ Clean the battery terminals to avoid the rust or miss contact.
- Keep battery contacts clean It's a good idea to clean battery ter»
minals once a week.
it your battery pack seems to have no capacity even alter being
charged, completely discharge it by leaving the power ON
overnight. Then, lully charge the battery pack again It the battery
pack still does not retain a charge (or very little), at new battery pack
must be purchased.

I Battery charging
Prior to using the transceiver lor the first time, the battery pack must
be tully charged for optimum lite and operation.
- Recommended temperature range tor charging:
+1 0°C to +40”C (50°F to 140°F).
- Use the supplied charger or optional charger (EC-1 19/BC-121 ror
rapid charging) only. NEVER use other manuiacturers' chargers.

When using the 50-119 in the vehicle. It the charge indica-
tor flashes orange, the vehicle battery voltage is low and
charging may not be performed. Check the vehicle battery
voltage in this case. it the charge indicator flashes red. there
may be a problem with the battery pack (or charger), Re-in-
sert the battery pack or contact your dealerr

The optional BC-121 allows up to 6 battery paom to be charged
simultaneously. The lollowing are additionally required.
- Six AD-945.
- Ah AC adapter (may be supplied with the 50421 depending
on version).

I Charging NOTE
The optional BP-209 or BP-210 battery packs include rechargeable
NI~Cd(Ni—MH: EP-210) batteries and can be Charged approx 300
times. Charge the battery pack before first operating the transceiver
or when the battery pack becomes exhausted.

. Avoid over charging. The charging period should be less than 48
hours,
-Use the battery until it becomes almost completely exhausted
under normal conditions We recommend battery charging after
transmitting becomes impossible.

- Make sure all battery cells are the same brand, type and ca-
pacity.
- Never mix old and new batteries.
Either of the above may cause a fire hazard or damage the
transceiver.
' Never incinerate used battery cells since internal battery gas
may cause them to rupture.
- Never expose a detached battery case to water.
It the battery case gets wet, be sure to wipe it dry beiore using.

I General
In the tollowing explanations, programmable function names are
bracketed, the specific switch used to activate the function depends
on programming.
0 KEVPAD LOCK FUNCTION
This lunction locks access to all pragramrnabie switches (exoepl the
swttch assigned the lock function).
Push and hold the [LOCK] switch lor l sec. to toggle the lock tunc-
tion ON and OFF.
- ‘t rO "appears while the lock function is ON.
- This function may be inhibiled on some channels.
0 paloanv CHANNEL
This function is used lo select a pie-programmed channei at the
push at a switch.
Push the [PRIORITY] switch to select the priorily Channel.
- “PRIO” appears orielly, then the priority channel is automatically
seleeted.
0 SCAN FUNCTION
The scan lunction allows you to search a pre~programmed group
at channels forsignals.
Push the [SCAN] switch to start/stop scan,
~ Scan pauses on a channel when receiving a signal.
- Depending on programming, a message may appear while scan-
ning,
~ “Lockoul SCAN" (we-programmed Iisl SCAN) or “Priority SCAN”
can be preprogrammeo.
- When the “Power-save lunction" is activated, the transceiver

checks all rue-programmed channels then returns to the “Power—
save function" again.
0 HIGH/LOW POWER OUTPUT
This function selects high or low power for a channel.
Push the [HIGH/LOW] SWIICh tn toggie between high and low
power.
- “LOW' appears when low output power is selected.
0 SCRAMBLER FUNCTION (optional UT-109 ”01' or UT»! 10 "01'
is required.)
This lunction provides higher communication security.
UT-109: Non-rolling type. 32 code numbers are available.
UT—1 to: Railing type.1020(4 group >< 255) code numbers are avail-
able.
Push the [SCRM] switch to toggle the tunctimi on and OFF,
’/ NOTE: NEVER use lloz High AF level version, as they are not

0 BEEP FUNC'I10N
This tunction provides confirmation beep tones when pushing

O MONITOR AUDIBLE FUNCTION
The monitor lunclion allows you to open the transceivers squelch
manually to check whether a channel is busy or not. The transceiver
has 2 conditions lor receive standby:
Audible condition:
/' This Condition mules audio ONLY when
no carrier is present. You can receive (or

lunction ON and OFF.

O DTM F TRANSMISSION
This lunction allows you to send a ore-programmed DTMF code to
control a repeater, open another transceivers squelch, etc.
Manual transmission:
Push desired digit keys in sequence while pushing [P'I'I’],
- Pushing [F'I'H may not be necessary depending on programming.
Automatic pro-programmed transmission:
(D Push the [DTMF] switch to select DTMF autodial mode then
pustt [A] or [v] to select the desired channel.
© Push the [DTMF] switch once more to send a DTMF code
0 DTMF FIE-DIAL FUNCTION
This function allows you to transmit the last-used DTMi= code at the
push at a key
Push the [DTMF RE-DIAL] szlch momentarily I0 activate the IunC'
tion.
'The previously transmitted DTMF code is automatically transmit-
ted.
. If no code has been transmitted since turning the power ON, this
function does not activate.
O EMERGENCY FUNCTION
The emergency lunction allows you to send your ID quickly and
easily to your Base Station, etc in case of emergency,
Push and hold the [EMERGENCY] switch for 1 sec. to activate the
emergency function.
-The transceiver selects a pie-programmed channel. then sends
an emergency signal to your Base Station.
~The pie-programmed channel remains selected until a control sig-
nal is received from the Base Station or power is turned OFF.

- The emergency call is repeatedly transmitted at pre-programmed
intervals.
0 DISPLAV LIGHTING
The function display has 3 backlight conditions.
OFF : Nu backlight is available
AUTO :When any key is pushed. the backlight turns ON ior 5
sec. automatically.
CONTINUOUS 2 Backlight turns ON continuously.
0 SmarTrunk II"“I Iunctions
This transceiver provides SmarTrunk IIW iunctions.
(Optional UT»105 SmarTrunk II'M Logic Board is required.)
The optional UT-105 allows communication over conventional chan-
nels or SmarTrunk IliM channels. Select a channel bank for
SmarTrunk II” before trunking operation.
To toggle SmarTrunk llw channels and conventional channels.
Push the [Bank Up] swrtch one or more times.
- Scanning starts when a channel bank ior SmarTrunk IIWI is see
Iected.
' Contact your dealer lor channel bank details.
(See p.2| Ior moie detailed operation.)

l Receiving and transmitting
? NOTE: Transmining Without an antenna may damage the trans-
/ ceiver. See in tor antenna attachment.
A Turn power ON as described on p. 1.
Receiving:
(0 Push [Al/[V] to select a channel.
(2) Listen for a transmission and adiust [VOL] to a comlortaole Ils-
lening level.
' When no transmission is heard. push and hold monitor while
adiusting [VOL] (yourlransceiver may not be programmed with
the monitor iunction).
The transceiver is now set to receive desired calls on the selected
channel.
Transmitting:
Wait tor the channel to become clear to avoid interlerence.
®While pushing and holding [PTI'], speak into the microphone at a
normal voice level.
ownen a tone signalling system is used, the call procedure de-
scribed at right may be necessary.

IMPORTANT: To maximize the readability of your transmitted sig-
nal, pause a few secs, after pushing [P'I'I'], hold the microphone 10
to 15 cm irorn your mouth and speak at a normal voice level.

5 CONVENTIONAL OPERATION
I Call procedure
When your system employs tone signalling (excluding CTCSS and
DTCS), the call procedure may be necessary prior to voice trans-
mission. The tone signalling employed may be a selective calling
system which allows you to call specific station(s) only and prevent
unwanted stations trorn contacting you.
(D Select the desired Tx code channel or s-tene code according to
your System Operator's instructions,
- This may not be necessary depending on programming.
- Refer to the next page tor selection.
(2) Push the call switch (assigned to one at the dealer programma-
ble switches: [P0], {Pi}, [P2], [P5], [$11 and (sen.
® After transmitting a 5-tone code, the remainder or your commu-
nication can be carried out in the normal iashion.

I Tx code channel selection
Your radio may be programmed for Tx code channel selection. In
this case, you can choose a Tx code channel to be transmitted
when using the call function (p. 7).
Push the Tx code channel switch (assigned to one at the dealer—
programmable switches) to activate the function, then enter digits
via the keypad to select the desired Tx code channel.
-Ths selected code channel (containing a pro-programmed 5-tone
code) is transmitted when usrng the can iunction.
I Manual 5-tone codes
Depending on programming, you may be able to send 5-tone codes
manually.
Push the Tx code switch to activate the iunctlun, then enter the de»
sired transmit code (up to 7 digits) using the keypad.
~ Activate the can function to transmit the 5-tone code.
- Blinking indicates keypad entry is acceptable.
I Transmitting notes
0 TIME—OUYTIMER
After continuous transmission tor a ore-programmed period, the
timeout timer is activated. causing the transceiver to stop transmit-
ting and automatically select receive,

Once the time-out timer is activated, transmission is lurther inhibited

I Basic operation
These features are enabled by your Dealer or System operator and
may not be available in your system. Contact your Dealer for de-
tails.
Push the [Bank Up] swrlch one or more times to select a channel
bank for conventional channels or SmarTrunk II'M channels.

NOTE: DO NOT push the [PTT] oh the slave transceiver during
