1. Fall Detection Unit Operational
Instructions
The HomeFree system was designed to monitor special needs and
Dementia individuals in the care center environment. The Fall
Detection Unit is one of the many unique elements of this system.
The Fall Detection Unit is a small, battery operated device, connected
to a chair or bed monitoring mat, that can be used to notify care center
staff members whenever the resident gets out of the chair or bed. The
Fall Detection Unit is positioned on the chair or at the bedside. The
Fall Detection Unit is not for use outside the monitored area.

1.1. Connecting the Fall Detection Unit
Plug the chair / bed mat into the mat connection jack, ensuring that the
cable between the mat and the Fall Detection Unit can move freely and
is clear of any moving parts. Place the chair / bed mat into its required
position (refer to the placement instructions for the appropriate chair /
bed mat). Place the Fall Detection Unit on the chair or at the bedside.
1.2. Activating / Deactivating the Fall
Detection Unit
Insert the batteries (battery type) in order to activate the Fall Detection
Unit. Loosen the screw located on the back lower panel of the Fall
Detection Unit and gently remove the cover. Insert the required
batteries into the battery holder. The LED indicator illuminates and a
single beeping sound is heard. Gently replace the cover and tighten the
screw holding the back lower panel.
ONCE IN ACTIVE MODE, THE FALL ALERT UNIT AUTOMATICALLY
SENDS A TRANSMISSION (EVERY 18-22 SECONDS – NON PERIODIC
TRANSMISSIONS) INDICATING THE CURRENT BATTERY STATUS AND
CURRENT LOCATION INFORMATION. THIS STATUS MESSAGE IS SENT AS
LONG AS THE FALL DETECTION UNIT IS ACTIVATED.
To deactivate the Fall Detection Unit, simply remove the batteries from
the unit.

1.2.1. Setting the Fall Alarm Volume
The level of the audible fall alarm depends on the level defined on the
Alarm Volume panel. Holding the Fall Alert Unit tightly, press the
Alarm button until the desired level is selected. The alarm level options
are; silent, low or loud. The illuminated LED indicates the alarm level
selected.
1.2.2. Setting the Fall Alarm Delay
The delay time of the audible fall alarm depends on the level defined on
the Alarm Delay panel. Holding the Fall Alert Unit tightly, press the
Delay button until the desired level is selected. The delay level options
are; 3-second delay (non-illuminated LED) or 5-second delay
(illuminated LED). The LED status indicates the delay level selected.
1.3. Initiating a Fall Alarm
The Fall Detection Unit begins to monitor for falls after the resident sits
or lies on the chair / bed mat for more than 15 consecutive-seconds. If
the resident gets up from the chair or bed once the unit has gone into
monitoring mode, an audible fall alarm is activated.
ONCE IN ALARM MODE, THE FALL DETECTION UNIT SENDS AN ALARM
TRANSMISSION (EVERY 18-22 SECONDS – NON PERIODIC
TRANSMISSIONS) TO THE MONITORING STATION. THIS MESSAGE IS
SENT UNTIL THE FALL ALARM IS RESET.

seconds.
