BLUESOCKET COMPLIANCE NOTICE
1.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
This document includes user requirements for operating ADTRAN Bluesocket products in accordance with
national laws, including usage of radio spectrum and operation of radio devices. Failure of the end-user to
comply with the applicable requirements may result in unlawful operation and adverse action against the
end-user by the applicable national regulatory authority.
•
ADTRAN Bluesocket products are intended to be installed, maintained, and serviced by qualified
service personnel with knowledge of radio frequency (RF) and related rules. Particular attention should
be given to allowed operation frequencies. The general user should not attempt to install Bluesocket
wireless products outdoors when external antennas, power, and grounding must be installed for use.
•
Refer to the specific Bluesocket product’s quick start guide (shipped with the unit or available online at
https://supportforums.adtran.com) for information on installing, grounding, and powering the unit.
•
Bluesocket products comply with radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment and
meet RF exposure guidelines for wireless access points. Bluesocket products should be installed and
operated keeping the product 65 cm or more away from a person’s body.
•
Use only the antennas which have been approved by ADTRAN for the specific Bluesocket product.
Non-approved antennas may produce unwanted, spurious, or excessive RF transmitting power which
may lead to the violation of local or national regulatory limits.
•
During deployment of the system and its initial setup, professional installer must ensure that the allowed
equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) limit is not exceeded for the country in which the
Bluesocket Access Point (BSAP) is deployed. The professional installer must enter the antenna gain in
the BSAP GUI, using the following steps:
1.
Access the BSAP as outlined in the Quick Start Guide that shipped with the unit.
2.
On the Configuration tab, navigate to Wireless > Access Points.
3.
Select the appropriate access point link to display the configuration menu.
4.
Enter the antenna gain values (dBi) for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands of ADTRAN
approved antennas as outlined in the table below.

Additional attenuation between the device and antenna may have to be calculated. Using the following
formula, the EIRP limit can be calculated based on the transmit power of the radio, the selected
antenna’s gain, and feeder’s (coaxial cable) loss:
EIRP Country Limit = RF Transmit Power (dBm) + Antenna Gain (dBi) - Feeder Loss (dB)

FEDERAL COMMUNICATION COMMISSION (FCC)
FCC Interference Statement
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions:
•
This device may not cause harmful interference.
•
This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired
operation.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant
to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful
interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency
energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference
to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular
installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be
determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by
one of the following measures:
•
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
•
Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
•
Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
•
Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.
FCC Cautions
Bluesocket products contain no user serviceable parts and are to be used with approved antennas only.
Any changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void
the user's authority to operate this equipment.
Bluesocket products and their antennas must not be co-located or operated in conjunction with any other
antenna or transmitter except in accordance with FCC multi-transmitter product procedures.
For outdoor use, antennas must be installed vertically to ensure that all emissions above 30 degrees
elevation will not exceed the FCC 21 dBm EIRP limit.
In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, the 5 GHz U-NII low band (5.15 to 5.35 GHz, channels 36, 40, 44,
and 48) is designated for indoor use only. If the BSAP 2135 is installed indoors, for example in a harsh
environment such as a warehouse, it must configured for indoor use. For information on configuring a
Bluesocket access point for indoor use, refer to the quick start guide that shipped with the product.
FCC Radiation Exposure Statement
Bluesocket products comply with FCC radiation exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled environment
and meet RF exposure guidelines for wireless access points. Bluesocket products should be installed and
operated keeping the product 65 cm or more away from a person’s body.
