Important Information
Map Data Information: One of the goals
of Garmin is to provide customers with the most
complete and accurate cartography that is available
to us at a reasonable cost. We use a combination of
governmental and private data sources, which we
identify in product literature and copyright messages
displayed to the consumer. Virtually all data sources
contain some inaccurate or incomplete data. In some
countries, complete and accurate map information is
either not available or is prohibitively expensive.
Notice Regarding Windshield
Mounting Legal Restrictions:
State law in Minnesota and California prohibits
or restricts drivers from using suction mounts on
their windshields while operating motor vehicles.

Use Your nüvifone
(See California Vehicle Code 26708(a); Minnesota
Statutes Section 169.71) Other Garmin dashboard
or friction mount options should be used when
driving in those states. Many other states have
enacted restrictions against placing “non-transparent
material” upon the windshield or placing objects
upon the windshield that obstruct the driver’s vision
(for example, New Jersey law currently prohibits
windshield objects that “unduly interfere” with the
driver’s vision to the front or sides). Check your state
and local laws and ordinances where you drive before
using the suction cup mount on your windshield.
It is the user’s responsibility to
use the Garmin unit and mounting
options in such a manner that the
user is in compliance with all
applicable laws and ordinances.
Remember to always mount your Garmin unit in a
location that does not obstruct the driver’s view of
the road. Garmin does not assume any responsibility
for any fines, penalties, or damages that may be
incurred as a result of disregarding this notice or as a
result of any state or local law or ordinance relating
to the use of your Garmin unit.
The California Electronic Waste Recycling Act of
2003 requires the recycling of certain electronics.
For more information on the applicability to this
product, see
www.erecycle.org.
Caring for the Screen
Clean the screen with water, isopropyl alcohol, or
eyeglass cleaner: do not use cleaners containing
ammonia, which can harm the coating on the screen.
If the unit has a touch screen, follow these guidelines
as well:
• The touch screen is intended for finger operation.
• Although a PDA stylus may also be used to
operate the touch screen, never attempt this while
operating a vehicle.
• Never use a hard or sharp object to operate the
touch screen or damage may result.
Disposing Your Mobile Device and
Accessories
Please do not dispose of mobile devices or electrical
accessories (such as chargers, headsets, or batteries)
with your household waste. These items should be
disposed of in accordance with the national collection
and recycling schemes operated by your local or
regional authority. Alternatively, you may return
unwanted mobile devices and electrical accessories
to any Garmin dealer.
Product packaging and user’s guides should only be
disposed of in accordance with national collection
and recycling requirements. Please contact your
regional authorities for more details.

Specific Absorption Rate Data
This model wireless phone meets the government’s
requirements for exposure to radio waves.
Your wireless phone is a radio transmitter and
receiver. It is designed and manufactured not to
exceed limits for exposure to radio frequency
(RF) energy set by the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) of the U.S. Government and by
the Canadian regulatory authorities. These limits are
part of the comprehensive guidelines and establish
permitted levels of RF energy for the general
population. The guidelines are based on standards
that were developed by independent scientific
organizations through periodic and thorough
evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include
a substantial safety margin designed to assure the
safety of all persons, regardless of age or health.
The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones
employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific
Absorption Rate (SAR). The SAR limit set by the
FCC and by the Canadian regulatory authorities is
1.6 watts/kg (W/kg). Tests for SAR are conducted
using standard operating positions accepted by
the FCC and by Industry Canada with the phone
transmitting at its highest certified power level in
all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is
determined at the highest certified power level, the
actual SAR level of the phone while operating can be
well below the maximum value. This is because the
phone is designed to operate at multiple power levels
so as to use only the power required to reach the
network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless
base station, the lower the power output.
Before a phone model is available for sale to the
public in the U.S. and Canada, it must be tested and
certified to the FCC and Industry Canada that it does
not exceed the limit established by each government
for safe exposure. The tests are performed in
positions and locations (e.g., at the ear and worn
on the body) reported to the FCC and available for
review by Industry Canada. The highest SAR value
for this model phone when tested for use at the ear is
1.26 W/kg, and when worn on the body, as described
in this owner’s manual, is .583 W/kg. For body worn
operation, this phone has been tested and meets
the FCC RF exposure guidelines for use with an
accessory that contains no metal and the positions the
handset a minimum of 2 cm from the body. Use
of other enhancements may not ensure compliance
with FCC RF exposure guidelines. If you do not use
a body-worn accessory and are not holding the phone
at the ear, position the handset a minimum of 2 cm
from your body when the phone is switched on.
While there may be differences between the SAR
levels of various phones and at various positions,
they all meet the governmental requirements for
safe exposure. Please note that improvements to this
product model could cause differences in the SAR
value for later products; in all cases, products are
designed to be within the guidelines.
Additional information on SAR can be found on the
Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association
12
Use Your nüvifone
(CTIA) Web site at http://www.phonefacts.net or
at the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications
Association (CWTA) Web site at http://www.cwta.ca.
note: In the United States and Canada,
the SAR limit for mobile phones used by the
public is 1.6 W/kg averaged over one gram of
tissue. The standard incorporates a substantial
margin of safety to give additional protection
for the public and to account for any variations
in measurements.
note: The SAR information includes the
Garmin testing protocol, assessment procedure,
and measurement uncertainty range for this
product.
Total System Reliability Validation
Determine by inspection that the following
information is made available to the user by one or
more of (a) printed on the label for the battery, (b)
printed on the label for the host device, (c) printed in
the owner’s manual, and/or (d) posted in a help file or
Internet web site.
• Do not disassemble or open crush, bend or deform,
puncture or shred.
• Do not modify or remanufacture, attempt to insert
foreign objects into the battery, immerse or expose
to water or other liquids, expose to fire, explosion
or other hazard.
• Only use the battery for the system for which it is
specified.
• Only use the battery with a charging system
that has been qualified with the system per this
standard. Use of an unqualified battery or charger
may present a risk of fire, explosion, leakage, or
other hazard.
• Do not short circuit a battery or allow metallic
conductive objects to contact battery terminals.
• Replace the battery only with another battery
that has been qualified with the system per
this standard, IEEE-Std-1725-200x. Use of an
unqualified battery may present a risk of fire,
explosion, leakage or other hazard.
• Promptly dispose of used batteries in accordance
with local regulations.
• Battery usage by children should be supervised.
• Avoid dropping the phone or battery. If the phone
or battery is dropped, especially on a hard surface,
and the user suspects damage, take it to a service
center for inspection.
• Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion
or other hazard.
• For those host devices that utilize a USB port as
a charging source, the host device’s user manual
shall include a statement that the phone shall only
be connected to products that bear the USB-IF
logo or have completed the USB-IF compliance
program.
