FB150 User Equipment User’s Guide Chapter 1 - Introduction The FB150 User Equipment (UE) is a dedicated compact solution specifically designed to meet the FIeetBroadband services tor the maritime environment providing seamless ocean coverage from 76° North to 76° South. FIeetBroadband is the marine version of the highly successful BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) from Inmarsat. Through a compact antenna, it provides constant, simultaneous access to voice and high- speed data in a compact solution. Allowing you to run onIine operation systems, and still having access to email, intranet and voice calls - achieving greater operational etticiencies and significantly reducing the cost 01 both business and crew communications. Listed is the range of services available for the FBisO User Equipment: Intranet and Internet access Secure communication E-mail and Web-mail Phone and fax services SMS and instant messaging Large file transfers FB150 User Equipment User’s Guide Features The FB150 Fleet Broadband UE offers the following features: - Simultaneous voice and data communication over FIeetBroadband - Full duplex, single or muIti-user, up to 150 kbps - Standard Voice (AMBE+2, 4.0 kbps) - Send and receive text messages up to 160 characters. Interfaces The FB150 Fleet Broadband UE offers the following connecting interfaces: 1 dedicated Primary Handset port 1 GPS output port 1 LAN port supporting Power over Ethernet (PoE) for computers, routers and access points. - 1 Standard RJ11 Phone port for analog (corded) phone - Built-in Web Console allowing you to manage your phone book, messages and calls, and customize the terminal to your specific needs 0 Input power: +12VDC / +24VDC - Groundingconnector - FCC & CE certified FB150 User Equipment User’s Guide Main Units The FB150 UE includes the following main units: - FB150 FIeetBroadband ADU (Above Deck Unit) - FB150 FIeetBroadband BDU (Below Deck Unit) - The Primary Handset - FB150 FIeetBroadband ADU (Above Deck Unit) The FBtSO ADU is a medium size, maritime FIeetBroadband Class 14, 3-axis marine antenna. The antenna is self-tracking based on patented beam squint technology. The simple and robust electromechanical system, with one motor pertree axis, provides full coverage in azimuth and elevation. Tracking is accomplished by measuring signals being continuously broadcast from the satellite. The antenna unit includes LNA (low noise amplifier), HPA (high power amplifier) and tracking receiver circuitry to ensure communication even in adverse circumstances. The radome covers the antenna equipments, which is composed of: Antenna Unit RF and GPS circuit Rotary joint Antenna pedestal AII signals (and power) pass through a single coaxial cable, which connects the ADU to the BDU. FB150 User Equipment User’s Guide FB150 FleetBroadband BDU (Below Deck Unit) The BDU has been developed for maximum flexibility and is the controlling unit for the FBlSO FIeetBroadband UE. It features a reliable industry standard interlacing field and enables users to have optimal connectivity no matter what the conditions or your position at sea. § The BDU has a built-in Web Console, which can be accessed from a computer connected to the BDU, using an Internet browser. The Web Console provides easy conlifiuration oi the BDU, firmware upgrade and daily use. FB150 User Equipment User’s Guide - SIM Card Slot (6) The BDU has a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card slot located at the connector panel behind a small cover plate. The UE requires a dedicated FIeetBroadband SIM card to access the FIeetBroadband network and configure the settings of the UE. Each LED is assigned to the following function: Power/BDU Status Network Status ADU Status GPS Status PP’NT‘ FB150 User Equipment User’ s Guide The Primary Handset The Primary Handset (corded) has a colour LCD and keypad for making voice calls and sending SMS using an interface similar with a mobile phone. You can use it to control and configure the BDU. The Primary Handset is connected to the BDU using the dedicated Handset interface and is iowered directli from the BDU. System User’s Guide Chapter 2 — Getting Started Note: For information on how to install the system and connect cables, refer to the FB150 User Equipment Installation Manual. Installing the SIM card Note: The FB150 UE requires a dedicated FIeetBroadband SIM card to access the FIeetBroadband network and configure the settings of the UE. Please refer to your Airtime Service Provider for more intormation Follow these steps to install the SIM card: 1. Remove screw securing SIM card cover. 2. Remove SIM card cover. SIM Card Cover Screw 3. Keep SIM card cover and screw in a sale location. 4. With the gold-contacts facing up, position the SIM card as indicated and slide the SIM card into the slot. FB150 System User’s Guide 5. Using a screwdriver, push SIM card gently until it clicks and lock in place. 6. Install the SIM cover. 7. Install screw to secure the SIM cover. Connecting the Antenna (Co-Axial) Cable Note: An antenna (co-axial) cable for connection between the ADU and BDU is provided with the user equipment. Follow these steps to connect the antenna cable to the BDU: 1. men antenna cable to the antenna cable connector. Antenna Cable (Co-Axial) Connector 2. Tighten the antenna cable knob to secure the antenna cable to the BDU. Note: It's important that the antenna cable is connected properly to the FB150 UE. Check that the antenna cable connectors are securely tightened. FB150 System User’s Guide Connecting to the Power Source Follow these steps to connect the F8150 UE to the ship's power source: 1. Connect the power cable adapter to the DC power connector. —/ — '_’— Dc Power Connector 2. Connect the power cable to the ship's DC power supply. 3. Turn on the ship's DC power supply to the FBlSO UE. Connecting the Primary Handset Note: The Primary Handset is powered from the BDU through the Primary Handset intertace. Follow these steps to connect the Primary Handset: 1. Connect the Primary Handset to the Handset interface on the rear connection panel. Entering your SIM PIN When you acquire the SIM card trom the Airtime Service Provider, a PIN (Personal Identification Number : 4 to 8 digits) is provided together with it. Note: You will need to enter the PIN at start-up if the FB150 UE has been powered down. Follow these steps to enter the SIM PIN: 1. Using the keypad on the Primary Handset, enter the SIM PIN. 2. Press "I| to confirm the SIM PIN. Note: It more than three (3) incorrect attempts were used to enter the PIN code, the handset will be locked and will display “xxxxxxxx”. You will be required to use the PUK code to unlock the SIM card and to reset your PIN code. FB150 System User’s Guide Making the first voice call Note: To make a call, you must be connected to a network and have an adequate SAT signal. When the ADU Status and Network Status LED indicators on the terminal both light steady green, you are ready to make or receive the first voice call. To make a call from the Primary Handset, dial 00followed the \ key. Note: For international calls and SMS, press and hold the *t key until '+' is displayed, then enter and without using the leading “00". To end the call, press 33 on the Primary Handset. To accept an incoming call, press \ on the Primary Handset. To make a call irom an analog phone (optional) connected to the FBlSO UE Phone port, off» hook the phone and dial, 00 followed by the # key. FB150 System User’s Guide Sending the first SMS (Message) Follow these steps to send the first SMS: 1. Using the keypad on the Primary Handset, enter the SIM PIN. 2. Follow these steps to connect a computer to the F81 50 UE BDU: 1. Connect your LAN cable between the network connector on your computer and the first LAN port on the FB150 UE BDU. 2.
