Silencer products have been designed to provide the consumer with years of trouble-free operation.This manual will provide reference for the operation and maintenance of your new Silencer vehicleimmobilizer system. Please, take a moment to read this manual so you will be familiar with the opera-tion of your new system.Automatic ArmingOnce you have turned the ignition key to the “Off” position, your Silencer engine immobilizer willbecome armed within 30 seconds. Upon arming, the device will emit 1 soft chirp. Turning the igni-tion back on before 30 seconds will stop the timer and reset it. Note: If your system was supplied with an “Automatic Disarm Transmitter”, you will need to leavethe vicinity of your vehicle (approx. 60 feet) before the automatic arming function will execute.(Remaining in close proximity of your vehicle could prevent it from arming). The distance require-ment may prevent you from hearing the soft arming chirp. DisarmValet OnValet Off3-Button Transmitter23-Button Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle to start the engine, press the “Disarm” but-ton on the 3-button transmitter. When the system is disarmed, the device will emit 2 chirps indi-cating it’s disarmed. 1-Button Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle to start the engine, press the transmitter but-ton. When the system is disarmed, the device will emit 2 chirps indicating it’s disarmed. Manual Disarming1-Button Automatic Disarm Transmitter1-Button Transmitter1-Button Automatic Disarm Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle, at some point, betweena distance of approx. 60 feet and the time you insert your ignition key to start the engine, the auto-matic disarm transmitter will disarm your system. Once disarmed, the device will emit 2 softchirps. No action is required by the operator. Note: In areas of high radio frequency noise, the automatic disarm function of the transmitter mayget blocked and not disarm your system. In this event, press the transmitter button to perform amanual disarm. Automatic Disarming (Automatic Disarm Transmitter Required)Note: Depending on the type of consumer transmitter package your dealer provided you with, youmay have each one of the transmitters pictured above, or two of the same type transmitter.Confirm this with your dealer. 4900-UM.qxp 4/1/05 16:19 Page 2
3Each time the system is disarmed using the transmitter the device will begin a protection modecountdown. This is a timed secondary protection mode. If you do not start your vehicle within 60seconds, your Silencer system will become rearmed and your engine will become disabled again.Note: If your system operates from a “Automatic Disarm Transmitter”, the 60 second RF protectiontimer will not time-out and will rearm your system if you remain within 60 feet of your vehicle. Radio Frequency (RF) Protection Rearm TimerAutomatic/Manual Disarm Transmitter ProgrammingIf your transmitter package contains one or more of the 1-button automatic disarm transmitters, thedefault operating mode will be “Manual Mode” (to preserve the battery life while not in use). Tochange the operating mode to “Automatic Mode”, follow these steps:1. Press the middle area of the button and hold it down until the LED light on the side of the but-ton becomes solid red. Release the button. 2. Press and release the center of the button 3 times. You will notice that the red LED light will beoff. 3. Press and hold the center of the button until the LED flashes. Release the button. 3 flashes = The transmitter is in “Automatic Disarm” mode.1 flash = The transmitter is in “Manual Disarm” mode.4. Confirm the mode of the transmitter. Press and release the center of the button and watch theflash sequence of the LED. 5. The transmitter operating mode can be changed at any time by following steps 1-3. 4The Valet Mode allows you to temporarily turn off the passive arming function, eliminating the needto give your transmitter to a parking attendant or garage mechanic. To enter the Valet Mode, follow these steps: 1. Press the “Disarm” button on your transmitter to insure the device is disarmed (you will hear2 beeps). 2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the disarm button, press and release the “Valet On” button 3times slowly. The device will emit 3 long beeps to indicate the Valet Mode is “On”. To exit the Valet Mode, follow these steps: 1. Press the “Disarm” button on your transmitter (you will not hear any beeps). 2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the disarm button, press and release the “Valet Off” button 3times slowly. The device will emit 1 long beep to indicate the Valet Mode is “Off”. Valet Mode3-Button TransmitterTo enter the Valet Mode, follow these steps: 1. Press the button on your transmitter to insure the device is disarmed (you will hear 2 beeps).2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the button, turn ignition On/Off 3 times and wait about 3 seconds,the device will emit 3 long beeps to indicate the Valet Mode is “On”.To exit the Valet Mode turn the ignition On/Off 3 times and wait about 3 seconds, the device will emit1 long beep to indicate the valet mode is “Off”.1-Button Transmitter (Includes Automatic Disarm Transmitter)4900-UM.qxp 4/1/05 16:19 Page 4
When this Silencer model is armed, the engine will not crank over. This is how to identify a 4900 sys-tem. Perform the following procedure to activate the override function: 1. Turn the ignition key all the way to the “Start” position and hold it there for 10 seconds, thenturn it “Off”. 2. Wait for 10 seconds. 3. Turn the ignition key back to the “Start” position and hold it there for 10 seconds then turn it“Off”.4. Wait for 10 seconds.5. Turn the ignition key to the “Start” position and the engine will start.4900 SeriesWhen this Silencer model is armed, the engine will crank over but it will not run normally. This ishow to identify a 4901 system. Perform the following procedure to activate the override function:CAUTION: If you have a 4901 system installed, cranking the engine for more than 5 seconds maycause the “Check Engine” light to illuminate on some vehicles. If this should occur, the vehicle bat-tery must be disconnected for 30 seconds and then re-connected to turn off the “Check Engine”light. 1. Turn the ignition key to the “On” position for 10 seconds then turn it “Off”.2. Wait for 10 seconds.3. Turn the ignition key back to the “On” position for 10 seconds then turn it “Off”.4. Wait for 10 seconds.5. Turn the ignition key to the “Start” position and the engine will start.4901 SeriesEmergency OverrideThere may come a time when it will be necessary to manually disarm your Silencer system withoutusing your transmitter. This condition occurs if the battery in your transmitter is low, dead or if yourtransmitter becomes damaged or lost. Under these circumstances, it will be necessary to use your igni-tion key to perform an emergency override procedure to get your vehicle operational. Identify yourSilencer model type and repeat the procedure to perform the override function. Ask your dealer for themodel number that was installed in your vehicle. 54900-UM.qxp 4/1/05 16:19 Page 5
Emergency Override1. Turn the ignition key to the "Crank" position, then turn the key off. Repeat this procedure 1 moretime. 2. Wait for 10 seconds3. Turn the ignition key to the "Crank" position, then turn the key off. Repeat this procedure 1 moretime. 4. Wait for 10 seconds5. Turn the ignition key to the "Crank" position, then turn the key off. Repeat this procedure 1 moretime and the engine will start. 4961 SeriesNote 1: For vehicles with manual transmission, you must depress the clutch while performing theEmergency Override procedure.Note 2: Once disarmed, follow the procedure on page 4 to put the unit into the Valet Mode until yourtransmitter is replaced or repaired.Note 3: Vehicles with "Power Sentinel" feature (when you turn off the ignition the radio stays on untilyou open a door and then it turns off) will require that the driver’s door be open when the overrideprocedure is performed. 64900-UM.qxp 4/1/05 16:19 Page 6
To replace or remove the batteries for storage in your transmitter follow these steps: 1. Turn the transmitter over and locate the slot at the edge of the transmitter case. 2. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry apart the top and bottom case of the transmitter whilekeeping the button side facing downward. 3. Once the back is completely removed, press on the button face to remove the entire transmitterassembly from the case. 4. Separate the transmitter circuit board from the rubber button case and slide the old battery out ofit’s holder. 5. Replace the battery in reverse sequence observing the correct polarity of the battery (+ batteryside should be facing upward). 6. 3-Button and 1-Button Transmitters: The 3-volt battery for these transmitters is model CR2032.1-Button Automatic Disarm Transmitter: The 3-volt battery for this transmitter is model CR2450. 1-Button and 3-Button Manual Disarm TransmittersThe battery supplied with the 1-button and 3-button transmitters has an average life of 1 year.Heavy transmitter usage will reduce battery life. Reduced transmitter range is usually an indica-tion that the battery is becoming weak and should be replaced. Transmitters that are not in useshould have the battery removed. 1-Button Automatic Disarm TransmitterThe battery supplied with the 1-button automatic disarm transmitter has an average life of 1 year.When the battery in this transmitter becomes weak, the automatic disarm function will stop oper-ating and you will be required to press the transmitter button to manually disarm your system.Loss of the automatic disarm function indicates that the battery is low and must be replaced soon. Note: When the automatic disarm transmitter function changes to manual mode, each time youpress the transmitter button, the transmitter LED will flash 2 times. The only maintenance that your Silencer vehicle immobilizer requires is a periodic check to insurethat all operations are functioning normally.
