Silencer products have been designed to provide the consumer with a product that is technologically superior, providing years of trouble free operation. This manual will provide reference for the operation and maintenance of your new Silencer vehicle immobilizer system. This system is an automatic device that will become armed every time you leave your vehicle. Once armed, the Silencer vehicle immobilizer will prevent your vehicle's engine from operating, aiding in the prevention of vehicle theft. Take a moment to read this manual so you will be familiar with the operation of your new system. Valet On Disarm Valet Off 3-Button Transmitter 1-Button Transmitter 1-Button Passive Disarm Transmitter Passive Arming Once you have turned the ignition key to the “Off” position, your Silencer engine immobilizer will become armed within 30 seconds. Upon arming, the device will emit 1 soft chirp. Turning the ignition back on before 30 seconds will stop the timer and reset it. Note 1: This passive arming feature could qualify in some states for an insurance discount. Check with your insurance carrier. Note 2: If your system was supplied with a “Passive Disarm Transmitter”, you have to leave the vicinity of your vehicle (approx. 60 feet) before the passive arming function will execute. Remaining in close proximity of your vehicle will prevent it from arming. This distance requirement may prevent you from hearing the soft arming chirp. Manual Disarming 3-Button Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle to start the engine, press the “Disarm” button on the 3-button transmitter. When the system is disarmed, the device will emit 2 chirps to indicate it’s disarmed. 1-Button Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle to start the engine, press the button on the transmitter. When the system is disarmed, the device will emit 2 chirps to indicate it’s disarmed. 1-Button Passive Disarm Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle to start the engine, press the button on the transmitter. When the system is disarmed, the device will emit 2 chirps to indicate it’s disarmed. Passive Disarming 1-Button Passive Disarm Transmitter: When you return to your vehicle, at some time between a distance of approx. 60 feet to the time you insert your ignition key to start the engine, the passive disarm transmitter will disarm your system. Once disarmed, the device will emit 2 soft chirps. No action is required by the operator. RF Protection Each time the system is disarmed using the transmitter, the device will begin a protection mode countdown. This is a timed secondary protection mode to insure the RF signal that disarmed the system came from your transmitter. If you do not start your vehicle within the 60 second timer countdown, your Silencer system will become rearmed and your engine will be disabled. Note: If your system operates from a “Passive Disarm Transmitter”, the 60 second RF protection timer will not time out and re-arm your system if you remain within 60 feet of your vehicle. 4900UMRevD 7/30/04 4:58 PM Page 3 Emergency Override There may come a time when it will be necessary to manually disarm your Silencer system without using your transmitter. This condition occurs if the battery in your transmitter is low, dead or if your transmitter becomes damaged or lost. In these circumstances, it will be necessary to use your ignition key to perform an emergency override procedure to get your vehicle operational. Identify your Silencer model type and repeat the procedure to perform the override function. Emergency Override (continued) Model 4900 When this Silencer model is armed, the engine will not crank over. This is how to identify a 4900 system. If you have this type of system, perform the following procedure to activate the override function: 1. Turn the ignition key all the way to the “START” position and hold it there for 10 seconds then turn it off. 2. Wait for 10 seconds. 3. Turn the ignition key back to the “START” position and hold it there for 10 seconds then turn it off. 4. Wait for 10 seconds. 5. Turn on the ignition key to the “START” position and the engine will start. Model 4901 When this Silencer model is armed, the engine will crank over but it will not run normally. This is how to identify a 4901 system. If you have this type of system, perform the following procedure to activate the override function: CAUTION: If you have a 4901 system installed, cranking the engine for more than 5 seconds may cause the “Check Engine” light to illuminate on some vehicles. If this should occur, the vehicle battery must be disconnected for 30 seconds and then re-connected to turn off the “Check Engine” light. 1. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position for 10 seconds then turn it off. 2. Wait for 10 seconds. 3. Turn the ignition key back to the “ON” position for 10 seconds then turn it off. 4. Wait for 10 seconds. 5. Turn on the ignition key to the “START” position and the engine will start. Note 1: For vehicles with manual transmission, you must depress the clutch while performing the Emergency Override procedure. Note 2: You must perform the Emergency Override procedure EACH TIME THE CAR IS STARTED until your transmitter is replaced or repaired. Valet Mode 3-Button Transmitter The valet mode allows you to temporarily turn off the passive arming function, eliminating the need to give your transmitter to a parking attendant or garage mechanic. To enter the valet mode, perform this procedure: 1. Press the disarm button on your transmitter to insure the device is disarmed (you will hear 2 beeps from the device). 2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the disarm button, press and release the “Valet On” button 3 times slowly. The device will emit 3 long beeps to indicate the valet mode “On” condition. To exit the valet mode, follow this procedure: 1. Press the “Disarm” button on your transmitter (you will not hear any beeps). 2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the disarm button, press and release the “Valet Off” button 3 times slowly. The device will emit 1 long beep to indicate the valet mode is “Off”. 1-Button Transmitter (Includes Passive Disarm Transmitter) To enter the valet mode, follow this procedure: 1. Press the button on your transmitter to insure the device is disarmed (you will hear 2 beeps from the device). 2. Within 3 seconds of pressing the button, turn ignition On / Off 3 times and wait about 3 seconds, the device will emit 3 long beeps to indicate the valet mode “On” condition. To exit the valet mode turn ignition On / Off 3 times and wait about 3 seconds, the device will emit 1 long beep to indicate the valet mode is “Off”. 4900UMRevD 7/30/04 4:58 PM Page 4 System Maintenance The only maintenance that your Silencer engine immobilizer requires is a periodic check to insure that all operations are functioning normally. This is also good practice for you to refresh your memory on “Emergency Override” and “Valet Mode” procedures. Batteries 1-Button and 3-Button Transmitters The battery supplied with the 1-button and 3-button transmitters has an average life of 1 year. Heavy transmitter usage will reduce battery life. Reduced transmitter range is usually an indication that the battery is becoming weak and should be replaced. Transmitters that are not in use should have the battery removed. 1-Button Passive Disarm Transmitter The battery supplied with the 1-button “Passive Disarm Transmitter” has an average life of 1 year. When the battery in this transmitter becomes weak, the passive disarm function will stop operating and you will be required to press the button on the top of the transmitter to manually disarm your system. Loss of the passive disarm function indicates that the battery must be replaced. Batteries Replacement To replace (or remove for storage) the batteries in your transmitter, follow these procedures: 1. Turn the transmitter over and locate the slot at the edge of the transmitter case. 2. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry apart the top and bottom case of the transmitter while keeping the button side facing downward. 3. Once the back is completely removed, press on the button face to remove the entire transmitter assembly from the case. 4. Separate the transmitter circuit board from the rubber button case and slide the old battery out of it’s holder. 5. Replace the battery in reverse sequence observing the correct polarity of the battery (+ battery side should be facing upward). 6. 3-Button and 1-Button Transmitters: The 3 volt battery for these transmitters is model CR2032. 1-Button Passive Disarm Transmitter: The 3 volt battery for this transmitter is model CR2450. 3 Year Warranty Your new Silencer ® Security Systems is warranted to be free of defects for 3 years. Silencer ® or its authorized agents will within 3 years from the date of sale to you, repair or replace said product or any part thereof, at the option of the Silencer ® or its authorized agents, if said product or part is found defective in materials or workmanship, when properly connected and operating on the correct power requirements designated for the specific product. This warranty and Silencer ® or its authorized agents obligations hereunder do not apply where the product was; damaged while in the possession of the consumer, subjected to unreasonable or unintended use, not reasonably maintained, or serviced by anyone other than Silencer ® or its authorized agents, or where the warning seal on the product is broken or the power and/or plugs are detached from the unit. This warranty does not cover the cabinet appearance items or accessories used in connection with this product, or any damage to the products resulting from improper installation, alteration, accident, misuse, abuse or acts of nature. Silencer ® OR ITS AUTHORIZED AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO ANYONE FOR CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES OR CLAIMS EXCEPT THOSE ACCORDED BY LAW. NO EXPRESSED WARRANTY OR IMPLIED WARRANTY IS GIVEN EXCEPT THOSE SET FORTH HEREIN. NO IMPLIED WARRANTY SHALL EXTEND BEYOND 3 YEARS FROM THE DATE OF SALE. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, and some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusion may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights that vary from state to state.
