To maximize the wireless range of the speaker, we recommend you place the speaker (and the USB transmitter, when pairing with a computer) at least 1 meter (3 feet) above ground level. How to Install the AC Adapter Make sure the shipping and longterm storage switch is in the “ON” position. Connect the AC adapter cable plug into the speaker’s jack. The jack is located on the back of the inMotion Air speaker. Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet. WARNING Use of an AC adapter other than the one supplied with your inMotion Air speaker may damage the product. Use only the supplied AC adapter. How to Charge the Lithium-Ion Battery Your inMotion Air speaker includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This battery should be fully charged before initial use of the speaker. Make sure the shipping and long-term storage switch is in the “ON” position. Connect the speaker to a wall outlet. See the How to Install the AC Adapter section. When the speaker is powered on, the “POWER” LED will turn green. When the speaker is off, there is no visual indication that the battery is charging, but it will continue charging until fully charged, as long as the speaker is connected to a wall outlet. Allow the battery to charge for a few hours. WARNING During the recharging process, it is typical for the battery to become warm. To be safe, keep flammable materials away from the speaker. WARNING To maintain optimal battery performance, (1) fully charge the battery before initial use, (2) make sure the battery is fully charged and the shipping and long-term storage switch is in the “OFF” position before storage, and (3) recharge the battery at least once a month. A full battery charge will provide up to 6 hours of continuous playing time. The “POWER” LED indicates the battery charge level: • Green: Good • Amber: Low • Blinking amber: Very low When the “POWER” LED begins blinking amber, you should recharge the battery, as the speaker is about to automatically shut down. Getting Started How to Connect the Full-featured Remote Battery How to Turn On Your Speaker The remote battery (included) is installed at the factory. However, there is a piece of plastic film inserted between the battery and the remote’s contacts to prevent the battery from draining during shipping. Pull the plastic film out of the remote. How to Replace the Full-Featured Remote Battery Pull the battery holder out about halfway. The battery holder is located on the lower end of the back of the remote. Use a fingernail to pull the latch toward the centerline of remote while using another fingernail to simultaneously pull the battery holder out of the remote. Remove the used battery and replace it with an identical battery. Push the battery holder back into the remote, making sure the battery stays in place. Make sure you have power to the unit. Ensure the AC adapter is connected to the system and plugged into the wall, or that the rechargeable battery is fully charged. See the Getting Started and How to Charge the Lithium-Ion Battery sections for more information. Turn the unit on. Press the button on either the speaker or the remote until the speaker turns on. How to Turn Off Your Speaker Turn off the unit. Press the button on either the speaker or the remote. NOTE Whenever you are finished listening to your music, please remember to turn off your speaker and computer or portable audio device to conserve electricity. NOTE If you are not going to use your inMotion Air speaker for more than a few weeks, set the shipping and long-term storage switch to the “OFF” position and unplug the speaker. You will hear and feel the latch click. NOTE Please discard used batteries properly. en How to Listen to Music from Your Computer Turn on your computer. Plug the Bluetooth USB wireless transmitter into your computer. Plug the transmitter into any available USB port on your computer containing music files and raise its antenna. NOTE No computer driver software is needed for the USB transmitter. Computers perceive the USB transmitter as a standard USB audio device. Turn on the inMotion Air speaker. Pairing of the inMotion Air speaker and the USB wireless transmitter is automatic. The speaker and transmitter’s pairing mode should automatically activate as soon as you turn the speaker on and plug the transmitter into the USB port for the first time. If you need to re-initiate the pairing mode, follow these instructions: NOTE When streaming music from the transmitter, it is recommended that the computer’s operating system’s mixer volume and music player application both be set at maximum. For more detailed instructions on how to adjust the volume settings on your operating system, visit us at www.alteclansing.com/iMW725. NOTE The “LAUNCH” button will launch your system’s default media player. For more detailed instructions on how to change the default media player on your operating system, visit us at www.alteclansing.com/iMW725. Make sure your computer is within range of the inMotion Air speaker. Press and hold the “SOURCE/PAIR” button on the speaker until the “B/T STATUS” LED begins to alternate red and blue. The USB wireless transmitter has an open-air range of up to 100 meters (333 feet), allowing you to stream music from computers located virtually anywhere in the house. Press and hold the “PAIR” button on the transmitter until the LED begins to alternate red and blue. Once both the speaker and the transmitter are in pairing mode, they should pair automatically. Once paired, the “B/T SOURCE” LED will light amber and the “B/T STATUS” LED will slowly blink blue. On the transmitter, the LED will slowly blink blue as well. Launch your music application software. Launch your music application on your computer by pushing the “LAUNCH” button on the remote or accessing the program directly on your desktop. NOTE The USB wireless transmitter must be plugged into the computer before you launch your music player application (e.g. iTunes, Windows Media Player and more), an Internet browser to access Pandora or any other music application. If the transmitter is inserted while the music player application is running, music will not play until the application is closed and then re-opened. NOTE The inMotion Air speaker can also be connected directly to a Bluetooth-enabled laptop or netbook. For more detailed instructions on pairing, visit us at www.alteclansing.com. NOTE Actual range will vary depending on your home layout, wall location, construction materials, and the presence of other radio frequency (RF) devices. How to Simultaneously Stream Music to Your inMotion Air Speaker and a Second Set of Non-wireless Speakers NOTE To pair a second inMotion Air speaker (not included) to the same transmitter, follow the pairing instructions in step 4. You can now enjoy your wireless music in multiple rooms simultaneously. Find your desired song. Start your music playing. Adjust the volume. TIP You can use a remote app on your mobile device (such as the Apple Remote app for iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad available on iTunes) or the media player on your computer to control playback. In addition to streaming music to your inMotion Air speaker in a different room, you may enjoy music in the same room as your computer using another set of non-wireless speakers. Follow steps 1 – 6 in the “How to Listen to Music from Your Computer” section Locate a different set of speakers. Plug the other end of the stereo cable into the Headphones/ Line Out jack on the USB wireless transmitter. Find your desired song. Locate a 3.5mm stereo cable (not included). Plug one end of the stereo cable into your second set of speakers. Start your music playing. Adjust the volume. en How to Listen to Your BluetoothEnabled Music Player How to Listen to Your Non-BluetoothEnabled Portable Audio Device If your portable audio device isn’t Bluetooth-equipped, you can enjoy it through your inMotion Air speaker as well. Just connect it via the AUX jack. Here’s how: Turn on your speaker. Put the speaker in pairing mode. Press and hold the “SOURCE/PAIR” button until the “B/T STATUS” LED begins to alternate red and blue. Put your portable audio device in Bluetooth pairing mode. Locate a 3.5mm stereo cable (not included). Plug one end of the stereo cable into your portable audio device. See your device’s user manual for specific instructions. Your device will search for the inMotion Air speaker. If you are asked for a passkey, enter 0000. Make sure your portable audio device is within range of the inMotion Air speaker. Most Bluetooth-enabled phones and music players have a range of approximately 10 meters (33 feet). Your portable audio device should be within this range of the speaker. Once paired, the “B/T SOURCE” LED will blink amber and the “B/T STATUS” LED will slowly blink blue. Your portable audio device should have either a headphone or LINE OUT jack for you to plug into. The AUX jack is located on the back of the speaker. Find your desired song. Turn on your speaker. Select “AUX” mode. Press the “SOURCE/PAIR” button on your speaker or the “SOURCE” button on the remote until the “AUX” LED lights up (amber). Start your portable audio device playing. Adjust the volume. Plug the other end of the stereo cable into your speaker’s AUX jack. Turn on your portable audio device and start the music playing. Adjust the volume. NOTE You may need to adjust the portable audio device volume also. Your portable audio device’s volume should be set to approximately ¾ volume. 10 Find your desired song. How to Play/Pause Your Music The speaker and remote are capable of controlling playback on your Bluetooth-enabled portable audio device as well as your computer when the USB wireless transmitter is attached to it. Alternately, you can use a remote app on your mobile device (such as the Apple Remote app for iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad available on iTunes) or the media player on your computer to control playback. Begin playing a selected track. Press the button on either the speaker or the remote. Music from your computer or portable audio device will start playing through the inMotion Air speaker. Pause the selected track. Press the button again on either the speaker or the remote. The music will be paused. How to Adjust the Volume How to Find Your Desired Song Skip to the beginning of the current song. Press the button on the speaker or remote. Skip to the beginning of the next song. Press the button on the speaker or remote. NOTE The skip functions are not compatible with all Bluetooth-enabled portable audio devices. NOTE Some audio playback applications will not accept track control commands if the application is minimized. How to Activate Expanded Sound Stage (ESS) Technology Proprietary ESS technology widens the stereo image to fill a room with sound. Turn up the volume. Activate ESS. Press and hold the “+” button on the speaker or the “VOL +” button on the remote until the desired volume is reached. Press the “ESS” button on your remote once. Turn off ESS. Turn down the volume. Press the “ESS” button again. Press and hold the “–” button on the speaker or the “VOL –” button on the remote until the desired volume is reached. en 11 How to Mute the Audio Mute the sound. Press the “MUTE” button on your remote once. Press the “MUTE” button again. How to Launch Your Music Player Application Launch the default music player application on your computer. Press the “LAUNCH” button on your remote once. NOTE The launch function is not compatible with all computer operating systems. Automatic Shutdown To help conserve power, your inMotion Air speaker will automatically shut down if it doesn’t detect an audio signal from either the wireless or AUX input. Battery-only power: 4 minutes AC adapter power: 10 minutes 12 Place the inMotion Air speaker on a level surface away from sources of direct sunlight or excessive heat. Protect your furniture with a piece of cloth or other protective material when placing your inMotion Air speaker on a natural wood or lacquered finish. Unmute the sound. To turn the speaker back on, press the the remote until the speaker turns on. How to Maintain Your Speaker button on either the speaker or Clean your inMotion Air speaker with a soft cloth moistened only with mild soap and water. Stronger cleaning agents, such as benzene, thinner or similar materials, can damage the surface of the unit. Troubleshooting Symptom Speaker system doesn’t respond (no power) Portable audio device doesn’t respond to the speaker or remote Possible Problem Solution AC adapter isn’t plugged into a wall outlet or the connector isn’t plugged into the power supply jack on the back of the speaker. Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet and plug the connector into the power supply jack on the back of the speaker. Wall outlet is not functioning. Plug another device into the same outlet to determine if the outlet is working. The lithium-ion battery is drained. Make sure the shipping and long-term storage switch is in the “ON” position and recharge the battery by plugging the AC adapter into a wall outlet and the connector into the power supply jack on the back of the speaker. The power isn’t turned on. Turn on the speaker system by pressing the lights up. Your portable audio device’s software is too old. Upgrade software on your portable audio device by visiting the manufacturer’s Web site. Portable audio device is locked up. Please make sure your Bluetooth-enabled portable audio device is working properly before pairing it with the inMotion Air speaker. Refer to your manufacturer’s manual for details. If either the “B/T STATUS” LED or the LED on the transmitter – or both – are solid red, pairing has failed. Try pairing the USB wireless transmitter and the speaker again. The USB wireless transmitter may have been plugged into the computer after the music player application had been launched. Close the music player application and relaunch it. No sound from the portable audio device Pairing may have failed. If the “B/T STATUS” LED is solid red, pairing has failed. Try pairing the Bluetooth-enabled portable audio device and the speaker again. No sound from the AUX device, such as an MP3 player or CD player connected to the AUX jack Volume on the device is set too low. Increase the volume on the device to approximately ¾ full volume. Source selector is not set to AUX. Press the “SOURCE/PAIR” button once. The “AUX” LED should light up. Sound is distorted Volume level is set too high. Decrease the volume. Sound source is distorted. If the original sound source (sound file) is of poor quality, distortion and noise are easily noticed with high-power speakers. Try a different audio source such as a music CD. No sound from computer with USB wireless transmitter 14 Troubleshooting Symptom Possible Problem Solution Full-featured remote doesn’t work Battery is weak. Replace current battery with a new battery. Remote is not pointed toward the speaker. Point the remote toward the inMotion Air speaker and move within 10 feet of the unit. The speaker exhibits erratic or unexpected behavior; controls do not function Static electricity, momentary interruption of power or abnormal operating conditions may be responsible. 1. D isconnect the AC adapter cable plug from the speaker’s jack. 2. W ait 20–30 seconds. 3. R econnect the AC adapter cable plug to the speaker’s jack. The lithium-ion battery is drained. Make sure the shipping and long-term storage switch is in the “ON” position and recharge the battery by plugging the AC adapter into a wall outlet and the connector into the power supply jack on the back of the speaker. en 15 Warranty ALTEC LANSING ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY What Does the Warranty Cover? Altec Lansing warrants that its products shall be free from defects in materials or workmanship, with the exceptions stated below. What Is the Period of Coverage? This warranty runs for one year from the date of purchase. The term of any warranties implied by law shall expire when your limited warranty expires. Some states and/or Member States in the European Union do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you. What Does the Warranty Not Cover? This warranty does not cover any defect, malfunction or failure that occurs as a result of: improper installation; misuse or failure to follow the product directions; abuse; or use with improper, unintended or faulty equipment. Also, consequential and incidental damages are not recoverable under this warranty. What Will Altec Lansing Do to Correct the Problem? Altec Lansing will, at its option, repair or replace any product that proves to be defective in material or workmanship. If your product is no longer being manufactured, or is out of stock, at its option, Altec Lansing may replace your product with a similar or better Altec Lansing product. How to Get Warranty Service To get a covered product repaired or replaced, you must contact Altec Lansing during the warranty period by email (csupport@alteclansing.com). You must include in your email, your name, address, email address, telephone number, date of purchase and a complete description of the problem you are experiencing. In the United States, you may alternatively contact Altec Lansing by telephone at 1-800-ALTEC88 – please be prepared to provide the same information. If the problem appears to be related to a defect in material or workmanship, upon proof of purchase Altec Lansing will provide you a return authorization and instructions for return shipment. Return shipments shall be at the customer’s expense. You should insure the shipment as appropriate because you are responsible for the product until it arrives at Altec Lansing. 16 How Will State Law Affect Your Rights? This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state. Please note that in the European Union, you as a consumer might have other legal rights under national legislation of European Union Member States governing the sale of Altec Lansing’s goods.
