REGULAR MAINTENANCE
This unit has been designed in be as maintenance free as
possible, but there are low simple ttiings you must do to keep
it working Properly
AWARNiNGi
Use only the replacement batteries listed below. The unit may
not opeate properly With other baltenes Neveruse
rechargeable baitenes since they may not pronde a constant
change
~ Test it at least once aweek
~ Clean the SmokeAlann at ieastonoe a month, gently
vacuum oi any dust using your household vacuums soti
bnish attachment, and test the Smoke Alarm alter deaning
Never use water, deaners or solvents since they may
damage the unit
~ lithe Smoke Alarm becomes contaminated by excessive
dirt, dust and/orgnme, and cannot be deaned to avoid
unwanted alarms, replace the unit immediatety
~ Relocate the unit ii it sounds frequent unwanted alarms

- When the battery becomes weak, the SmokeAlann unit
will “chirp" approximately once a minute (the low battery
waniing) This low baltienng should lastior up to 30 days, but
you should replace the battery immediately to continue your
Dmledlm.
Choosing a replacement battery:

icllovnng baitenes are acceptable as replacements Duracell

may also use a Lithium battery like ttie uiitaliie u9vtei ior

are available at many loial retail stores.
IMPORTANT!

above are acceptable replacement batteries iorihis unit
Regardless oithe manuiacturers suggested battery lie, you
MuST replace the battery immediately once the unit stans

SmokeAlannto stop an unwanted alarm (caused by
cooking smoke, eto.). Remo g batteries disable the
alarm so it cannot sense smoko, and removes your
protection. instead open a window or fan the smoke away
item the unit. Tire alarm will reset automaticsity.

USING THE SILENCE FEATURE
The Silence Feature can temporaniy quiet an unwanted alarm
iorup to 15 minutes To use this ieature, pressttie "Push to
Test/Silence- button on the cover it the unit will not silence
and no heavy smoke is present or iiitstays in lence
mode continuously, it should be replaced immediamly. The

The Silence Feature does not disable the un' it makes it
temporarity less sens ive to smoke. For your safety, t
smoke around the unit dense enough to suggest a
potentially dangerous situation,the unit will stay in alarm
or may ieaiarm quickly. liyou do not know the source oi
the smoke. do notassume it is an unwanted alarm. Not
responding to an alarm can result in property loss, injury,
or death.
IF YOU SUSPECT A PROBLEM
SmokeAlanns may not opemie properly because oidead,
missing orweak batteries, a buildup oi dirt, dust or grease on
the SmokeAlann cover or installabon in an improper location
clean the Smoke Alarm as described in “Regular
Maintenance,‘ and install afresh battery, then test the Smoke
Alarm again iirtiailstotiest properly when you use the test
button, or little problem persists, replace the Smoke Alarm
immediatety
- it you hear a “chirp” about once a minute. replace the
battery.
~ iiyou experience frequent nonemergericy alarms (like
those caused by cooking smoke). try relocating the
Smoke Aiarrn.
~ little alarm sounds when no smoke is visible, by
cleaning or relocating the SmokeAlann. The cover may be
dirty.
~ little alarm does not sound during testing, try
installing a new battery, and make sure ttis snapped in
securely.
RECOMMENDED LOCATIONS FOR SMOKE
ALARMS
installing Smoke Alarms in Single-Family Residences
The National Fire Pmlecnoii Association (NFPA), recommends
one Smoke Alarm on every lloor, in every sleeping area, and in
every bedroom in new construction, the SmokeAlanns must

halls, storage areas, finished attics, and basements, where
