Sound Monitor and a Breathing Monitor that are reliabie and easy to use. If ever youi
baby's breathing movements stop for more than 20 seconds, the monitor instantly warns
you so you can take immediate action. You thus have compiete peace of mind, even when
your baby is sieeping.
Please read all the instructions before using your baby monitor, and be sure to toilow the
safety precautions. Keep this booklet handy, preterabiy m the baby’s room, smce it contains
usefui advice on what you should do in case of emergency.

OVERVIEW OF BASIC FUNCTIONS Ange/care”
Sound Monitor
The Sound Monitor has two main parts: a transmitter [3], which is placed near the baby
(the Nursery Unit), and a receiver [C] that you keep with you and which allows you to
remain in Contact with your child (the Parent Unlt). The microphone [10] captures all
neighboring sounds, which are then retransmitted via the speaker [Flu If you only want
to hear the child, select Sound Only [6] to disable the Breathing Monitor. Under normal
conditions, the transmitter has a range of about 60 m (200 feet),
Breathing Monitor
The Sensor Pad [1] is placed under the mattress and detects the baby’s movements, even
the slightest breathing movements A pre»alarm sounds if no movement lS detected for 15
seconds, After 20 seconds, the main alarm sounds and the red indicator light [7] starts
flashing. The alarm stops automatically as soon as the baby's movements are detected
again, and the indicator light shuts off one minute later, You can use the Breathing Monitor
until your baby starts moving freely in his crib. After that, he could trigger false alarms,
by movrng away from the space over the sensor pad [1].
The monitor allows you to hear the rhythm of your baby’s breathing through the Tick
function [4]. When this option is selected, an audible “tick" is heard With each breath the
baby takes,

SETTING UP THE MONITOR
Nursery Unit (In the baby's room)
0 Lift up the mattress and place the Sensor Pad [1] at the bottom of the crib right under
where your baby usually sleeps. if you have a foam matress, place the Sensor Pad [1]
lenghtwise in the crib. With any other type of rnatress, place the Sensor Pad perpendicularly
across the crib. Make sure that the,side indicating "This side up” is VlSIblE before replacing
the mattress. (See illustration on opposite page).
AFor the manner to operate properly, the Sensor Fad [1] must be in close contact With
the mattress and rest on a firm surface; otherwise, the unit may not detect all baby’s
breaths and trigger false alarms. Make sure there are no bedclothes tucked under the
mattress separating it from the sensor pad. Also, If the mattress support is too soft — r e.
if there is a boxspririg or under-padding — it might be necessary to place a board under
the sensor pad to provide a firm surface for it.
' Place the Nursery Unit [3] on a sturdy surface no more than 3 m (10 feet) from the crib
and direct the microphone [10] toward the crib. Plug the Sensor Pad cord into the Nursery
Unit Plug-In [12], but make sure that it is totally out of the baby‘s reach.
' Plug the Adapter [11] into the wall outlet and connect the power-supply cord into
the Adapter Plug-In [13]. Select Channel A [5] and set the main swrtch [6] and Tick
function [4] initially to Off
Parent Unit
~ To use the Parent Unit [c] with household power, plug the Adapter [I] into the wall outlet
and connect the power—supply cord to the Parent Unit 9-volt DC Adapter Plug-In [G].
For battery operation, remove the battery cover [H] and install a 9-volt Alkaline battery.
. Select Channel A [A] and set the power switch [E] initially to Off
A The battery should be replaced if you note a decrease in the intensity of the Power On
light [D] or the quality of the reception. if you do not intend to use the baby monitor for an
extended period of time, remove the bartew [H] to prevent it from leaking.
USING THE MONITOR
Sound Monitor only
0 Set the main switch of the Nursery Unit [6] to Sound Only The Power On light [3]
will come on.
' Set the volume of the Parent Unit [E] to the desired level Ask someone to speak near the
Nursery unit [3] or place a sound source nearby (such as a radio or clock) and test the moni»
tor both inside and outside your home. Check Wthh channel (A or B) gives the best results.
A The same channel must be selected on both units [5 and Al ii there is interference
regardless of the channel selected, refer to the Troubleshooting section, page 8
Sound and Breathing Monitors
- Once you have made sure that the monitor rs operating properly (in Sound Only mode),
place your baby in the crib (otherwise the alarm will sound after 20 seconds).
' Set the Nursery Unit to Sound Sr Breathing [6] The Power On light [8] comes on, and
then the Alarm Indicator [7] and Breathing Monitor Indicator [91 Will come on for about a
second each. The Breathing Monitor indicator ls] then begins to flash at the same rate as your
baby's breathing.
' Adjust the volume of the Parent Unit [E].
- Set the Tlck Function [4] On or Off, as desrred.
A To avoid needlessly sounding the alarm, get into the habit of always resetting the
switch [6] to Sound Only or Off before removing your baby from the crib
Testing the Breathing Monitor
A Check that the Breathing Monitor is operating properly before first time
use and then on a periodic basis. It is important to do so to ensure that normal
room vibrations do not prevent the alarm from sounding.
Switch the Breathing Monitor on [61 without the baby in the crib. After about 15 seconds,
the pre-alarm should sound, followed by the main alarm and flashing red light [7],
five seconds later, Patting your hand lightly on the mattress or placing your baby in the
crib will cause the alarm to stop sounding, although the red light will continue to flash
for another minute. You can also stop the alarm by setting the main switch to Off [6]. It the
alarm does not sound, refer to the Setup section and make sure that all of the wires are
properly connected. You may also have to place the Sensor Pad {1} on a rigid board.
Continuous vibrations from the floor can delay or prevent the alarm from sounding
You may then have to place the cat in the corner of the room or near a solid supporting
wall. A strong draft -from a fan, for example- may also delay or prevent the alarm
sounding, so make sure that the cot is not in a strong draft. if the alarm still does not
go off, please contact Angeltare” Customer Service Department.

FALSE ALARMS
The alarm might still go off if your baby is breathing normally,
The following is a list of possible causes and ways to correct them
'.’ You removed your baby from the crrb bur left the main swrtch [6] on

! Set the switch to Sound Only or Off.
? The Sensor Pad cord is improperly connected to the Sensor Pad Plug-In [12]
! Reconnect the wire by pushing it in fully.
7 Your baby is not lying above the Sensor Fad [1],
! Make sure that the Sensor Pad is positioned directly under the baby.
2’ The Sensor Pad [1] is not in full contact With the mattress,
! Make sure that there are no blankets or bedding lifting the mattress and
separating it from the Sensor Pad. If necessary, place a flat object under
the Sensor Pad to lift it slightly.
'.’ The Sensor Pad [1] is lying on a soft, springy or uneven surface.
! Place the Sensor Pad on a rigid board cut to fit the base of the crib.
if false alarms still occur after you have checked all of the above,

A WARNINGS
0 The baby monitor is not a medical device and should not replace direct superVislon of the
child by a responsible adult
- Never place the Nursery Unit [3] in the crib or playpen.
- Arrange wiring so that it is out of>the child's reach, untangled, and not underfoot
0 All of the baby monitor components except the Sensor Pad [1] should be placed so that
air can flow freely around them,
' Never place any of the monitor components near a source of heat or in direct sunlight
- Keep components away from excessive moisture, and never place the Parent Unit [C]
on a wet surface.
- Only use the AC adapters provided [11 and I] and plug them into standard 120 volt
outlets. Use of any other type of adapter may pose a safety hazard and make the warranty
null and void.
- When the baby monitor is not being used for extended periods of time, remove the
battery [H] and/or disconnect the adapters [11 and I].
- Keep the units clean and dust-free. Disconnect the units before cleaning them Do not
immerse in water. Do not spray with cleaning products or solvents; use a dry, lintefree cloth
only. The Sensor Pad [1] may however be cleaned by wiping with a cloth dampened With
an antiseptic or mild detergent solution.
- Refer all servicing to Angelcare" technicians.
A If the baby wets its bed and the Sensor Pad [1] becomes wet, it will not compromise
its proper functioning or safety.
A Make sure that the nursery unit and adapter cord are out of reach of your baby
and other small children. '
Changes or modifications to this unit not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance
could void the user's authority to operate the equipment,
APNEA (RESPIRATORY ARREST)
AND SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME (SIDS)
In industrialized countries, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SlDSl is one of the main causes of
mortality among infants under the age of one. Ninety percent of 5le cases occur before the
age of six months. No one knows what really causes SiDS or how to prevent it, but certain
precautions can still be taken to reduce the ”5k”
' Unless your doctor tells you otherwrse, lay your baby down on his/her back on a flat,
firm surface, However, once bables begin to turn on their own, they can be left to sleep
in their preferred posttion.
- Do not smoke around your baby. A smoke-free environment protects your baby‘s health
and reduces the risk of SlDS.
0 Your baby must be kept warm but not too warm. The back of his neck should feel free of
perspiration.
0 Mother’s milk is the best food for babies and helps pro them from SIDS
Remember that a newborn child’s breathing rate can be irregular mainly up to the age
of three months. When sleeping, your baby breatheseveryonflo two seconds on average.
However, it is quite normal for your baby to occasionally breathe in deeply and stop
breathing for a few seconds; so don't let this worry you.
You should also remember that a baby’s breathing tends to be lightest around 3100 am, at
which time it is the most difficult to detect
A Your Ange/care" Breathing Monitor
- The baby monitor is not a medical device and should not replace direct supervision of the
child by a responsible adult. '
¢ The Breathing Monitor is not designed to prevent or stop respiratory arrest, although the
noise of the alarm might exceptionally startle the baby and cause him to start breathing again.
- if a member of your family has already had respiratory arrest or if your baby has
respiratory problems, consult a physician so that any preventive measures are done under
his or her care.
- The Breathing Monitor could be most useful if the person supervising the baby knows how
to react in an emergency and if, ideally, be or she has had training in CPR. The followmg
pages describe basic emergency procedures in the event of respiratory arrests

IF THE BREATHING MONITOR ALARM GOES OFF
Observe the baby
Remain calm and check whether your baby is
breathing properly.
- Place your ear next to your baby’s nose and
mouth and check whether his chest is movmg up
and down.
- If your baby iS not breathing move on to the
next step.
- If your baby is breathing, continue observing him
without waking him while trying to determine why
the alarm went off.
Light stimulation
Talk to your baby while touching him lightly,
as if to wake him up.
- If your baby is still not breathing, move on to the
next step.
~ If he starts breathing again, continue observing
him while trying to determine the reason for the
respiratory arrest.
Vigorous stimulation
Hold your baby's ankle with one hand and hit
the sole of his foot with the other. '
° if your baby is still not breathing, move on to the
next step.
. If he starts breathing again, comfort him and
then try to determine the reason for the respiratory
arrest

head slightly backwards while gently lifting up his chin.
Check whether your baby
has resumed breathing
° Hold your cheek next to the baby’s mouth to
check for signs of breathing. Observe the baby’s
chest and stomach, Listen for the sound of any
noise.
0 If your baby is still not breathing, move on to the
next step.
- If he is, make sure there is nothing blocking the
respiratory tract, comfort him, and try to
determine the reason for the respiratory arrest.
Place your mouth over
your baby's mouth
and nose 1
' SM breathe out only the air EM.
Allow the baby to exhale. Breathe out more air
while observing whether the baby’s chest is lifting.
' if the baby's chest is not lifting or if you feel
some resistance to the air passing through, reposi-
tion the baby's head and breathe more air into the
baby‘s mouth and nose.
' If the air still won’t flowl move on to the next step.
' If the air is flowing freely, give a breath every 3
seconds (20 breaths per minute) until the baby begins
to breathe again or until the paramedics arrive.

CLEARING THE RESPIRATORY TRACT
Smacking the
baby on the back
- Turn your baby over on his stomach while firmly
supporting his head.
- Usrng the palm of your hand, smack your baby five
times between the shoulder blades. Remove any
foreign object that has become dislodged
(see last step).
- If the breathing passages have not cleared up, move
on to the next step.
~ It the breathing passages have cleared up but your
baby has not resumed breathing, administer
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation,
- If the breathing passages have cleared up and your
baby has started breathing again, comfort him gently.
Chest pumps
- Place your baby on hls back and support him firmly,
- Place two fingers on his sternum, just under an
imaginary line across the nipples.
- Apply pressure five times to about 1.5 to 25 cm
(1/2 to 1 in) in depth. Remove any foreign obiect
that has become dislodged (see last step).
0 If the breathing passages have not cleared up,
alternate between smacking the baby on the back
and pushing on his chest.
- If the breathing passages have cleared up but your
baby has not resumed breathing, administer
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
0 If the breathing passages have cleared up and your
baby has started breathing again, comfort him gently.
Removing foreign object
0 Use one of your hands to open your baby's mouth.
- With your little finger, use a sweeping motion to
remove the foreign object.
o It the breathing passages have not cleared up,
alternate between smacking the baby on the back
and pumping his chest,
- If the breathing passages have cleared up but your
baby has not resumed breathing, administer
mouth-to—mouth resuscitation.
