This guide describes Apple iBeacon (Model A1573).1.1 Overview1.1.1 Threaded HoleThe Threaded Hole (see figure highlight A) accepts a standard M5 screw and may be used to securely mountApple iBeacon to other structures.1.1.2 Status LEDThe Status LED (see figure highlight B) is intended as a convenient indicator of operating mode and batterystate. Whentwo colors are specified, the LED will alternate between the two colors every 500 ms instead of between offand on states.1.1.3 Micro-USB ReceptaclePlug a USB to Micro-USB cable into the Micro-USB Receptacle (see figure highlight C) and connect AppleiBeacon into a USB power adapter to charge.1.1.4 Slide SwitchThe Slide Switch (see figure highlight D) has 3 possible positions: ●Off ●On ●MomentaryApple iBeacon will enter Programming mode when the Slide Switch is moved from the On position to theMomentary position and held there for a minimum of 3 seconds. The Slide Switch may be released after AppleiBeacon has entered this mode.1.2 AccessoriesThe following accessories are not included with Apple iBeacon and must be purchased separately:1.2.1 USB power adapterUse any Apple USB power adapter to power Apple iBeacon and charge the battery. The Apple 5W USB PowerAdapter is recommended.1.2.2 USB to Micro-USB cableUse any standard USB to Micro-USB cable to connect Apple iBeacon to a USB power adapter to charge.1. 2.1 ChargingApple iBeacon has an internal, lithium-ion rechargeable battery. The best way to charge the Apple iBeaconbattery is to connect Apple iBeacon to a power outlet using the not-included USB to Micro-USB cable andApple USB power adapter.2.2 Normal ModeWhen the Slide Switch is in the On position, the Apple iBeacon will be visible to iOS apps that work with iBeacon,using the configuration that has been set by the Apple iBeacon programming app.2.3 Programming ModeTo program Apple iBeacon's settings, put the Apple iBeacon into Programming mode using the Slide Switchand then run the Apple iBeacon programming app on another Apple device.2014-07-03   |   Copyright © 2014 Apple Inc. Read all the safety information below before usingApple iBeacon. 3.1 HandlingHandle Apple iBeacon with care. It is made of plastic and has sensitive electronic components inside. AppleiBeacon can be damaged if dropped, burned, punctured, or crushed, or if it comes in contact with liquid. Don'tuse a damaged Apple iBeacon, such as one with a damaged enclosure, as it may cause injury.3.2 RepairingDon't open Apple iBeacon and don't attempt to repair Apple iBeacon by yourself. Disassembling Apple iBeaconmay damage it or may cause injury to you. If Apple iBeacon is damaged, malfunctions, or comes in contactwith liquid, contact Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.3.3 CleaningClean Apple iBeacon if it comes in contact with anything that might cause stains - such as dirt, ink, makeup,or lotions. To clean: ●Disconnect all cables and turn Apple iBeacon off (slide the Slide Switch to the Off position) ●Use a soft, lint-free cloth ●Avoid getting moisture in openings ●Don't use cleaning products or compressed air2014-07-03   |   Copyright © 2014 Apple Inc. 3.4 Using connectors, ports, and buttonsNever force a connector into a port or apply excessive pressure to a button, because this may cause damagethat is not covered under the warranty. If the connector and port don't join with reasonable ease, they probablydon't match. Check for obstructions and make sure that the connector matches the port and that you havepositioned the connector correctly in relation to the port.3.5 ChargingCharge Apple iBeacon with the USB to Micro-USB cable connected to an Apple USB power adapter (bothavailable separately). Using damaged cables or chargers, or charging when moisture is present, can causeelectric shock. When you use the Apple USB Power Adapter to charge Apple iBeacon, make sure that the ACplug or AC power cord is fully inserted into the adapter before you plug it into a power outlet.3.6 Operating temperatureApple iBeacon is designed to work in ambient temperatures between 32 and 95 degrees F (0 and 35 degreesC) and stored in temperatures between -4 and 113 degrees F (-20 and 45 degrees C). Apple iBeacon can bedamaged and battery life shortened if stored or operated outside of these temperature ranges. Avoid exposingApple iBeacon to dramatic changes in temperature or humidity.3.7 Prolonged heat exposureApple iBeacon and the Apple USB power adapter (available separately) comply with applicable surfacetemperature standards and limits. However, even within these limits, sustained contact with warm surfacesfor long periods of time may cause discomfort or injury. Use common sense to avoid situations where yourskin is in contact with a device or its power adapter when it's operating or plugged into a power source forlong periods of time. For example, don't sleep or place a device or power adapter under a blanket, pillow, oryour body when it's plugged into a power source. It's important to keep Apple iBeacon and the Apple USBpower adapter in a well-ventilated area when using or charging them. Take special care if you have a physicalcondition that affects your ability to detect heat against the body.3. 3.8 Radio frequency interferenceObserve signs and notices that prohibit or restrict the use of electronic devices (for example, in healthcarefacilities or blasting areas). Although Apple iBeacon is designed, tested, and manufactured to comply withregulations governing radio frequency emissions, such emissions from Apple iBeacon can negatively affectthe operation of other electronic equipment, causing them to malfunction. Turn off Apple iBeacon to turn offthe Apple iBeacon wireless transmitter when use is prohibited, such as while traveling in aircraft, or when askedto do so by authorities.3.9 Explosive atmospheresDo not charge or use Apple iBeacon in any area with a potentially explosive atmosphere, such as a fuelingarea, or in areas where the air contains chemicals or particles (such as grain, dust, or metal powders).
