175. Connection OptionsThe Xpress Receiver and Cradle provide an audio output signalin three ways:a. FM Modulator - When using the XMC10 cradle with theFM modulator option, the XM audio signal can be receivedthrough your vehicle radio on selectable FM frequenciesusing the menu options included in your Xpress Receiver.(Refer to the Receiver owner’s manual.) The XM audio signalcan then be played through your vehicle radio when the carradio is tuned to one of the available frequencies.b. FM Direct Wiring - If the FM modulator does not providesatisfactory performance in your vehicle, use the optionalFM Direct Adapter, Part # XMFM-1, which provides a hard-wired FM output.c. Low-Level Audio Output - For vehicles equipped with radiohead units with auxiliary audio inputs, the audio signal canbe routed through an optional audio cable (Part No. SAT-RCA) and applied to the auxiliary inputs of a radio orentertainment system. In this case, it is best to turn theXpress Receiver FM modulator option off to avoidinterference.
18d. Xpress Cassette Adapter -The XM7 Xpress Cassette Adapteroffers an additional audio connection option by utilizing yourexisting vehicles in-dash cassette deck.XM7 research and lab test results show that using a vehicle cas-sette adapter can best maximize the relationship between the bestsound quality and ease of installation (see chart below).OPTIONAL SAT-RCAAUDIO CABLE(PURCHASEDSEPARATELY)(CONNECT TOAUXILIARY AUDIOINPUTSON VEHICLEHEAD UNIT.)OPTIONAL FM DIRECTADAPTER XMFM-1(PURCHASED SEPARATELY)TO VEHICLERADIO ANTENNAJACKXMC10 CRADLE(RIGHT SIDE VIEW)

206. Installation GuidelinesStep 1.First, determine the proper location for your satellite radio antennabased on the following criteria for your specific vehicle:a. You must locate the satellite radio antenna on the top of theroof either in front of the rear window (option 1) or behind thewindshield (option 2). The satellite radio antenna will performbest if magnetically attached to a steel surface with anunobstructed view of the open sky and minimum of 3 to 6inches of metal surrounding the antenna.b. When routing the antenna cable along the windshield or rearwindow, tuck the antenna cable under the window seal tomaintain a professional looking installation and to avoidloose wires on the exterior of the vehicle which are susceptible to damage. Follow the interior cable routing diagramdepicted by dashed lines in the illustration above wherepossible.KEEP EXCESS CABLEUNDER OR BEHINDTHE DASHBOARDOPTION 1OPTION 2
21c. Avoid kinking, crimping, twisting or chafing the cable. Usepre-existing wire channels when possible.d. For option 1 and rear mounting locations, route the cable intothe trunk as shown in the previous illustration. Always crossthe weather seal at the lowest part of the trunk to reduce waterleaks. From the trunk, route the cable into the passengercompartment through available wire channels and then alongthe floor under the door jam trim or under the carpet to thefront of the passenger compartment. Do not leave the cableloose in the passenger compartment where it is likely to bedamaged.e. For option 2 and front mounting locations, route the cablealong the door jam and into the vehicle as shown. Route thecable across the weather seal near the bottom of the door toreduce water leaks.
22Step 2.Once you have plugged the powerand antenna jacks into the carcradle, use the included cableorganizer as shown in the illustration at right to improve the overallappearance of the installation.Step 3.Re-use the cable twist ties that wereprovided with the power adapter andcar antenna cables and always besure to gather, bundle, twist-tie, andsecureany excess cable remainingafter determining the best location foryour satellite radio intallation. For example, secure the excess cable up under your dash board, between the seat and the console, or on the floor under a seat orfloor mat. This will help to prevent the excess cable from interfer-ing with the everyday use of your vehicle, improve the appearanceof the installation, and avoid any undesirable accidental damageto the cables that might result in loss of power or satellite signal.Be sure to choose a location carefully by taking notice of howdoors and trunks open and close, as well as how seats movewhen they are adjusted so you can be certain there is ampleclearance provided for the cables.
