Set-Up and Operating Instructions for FWMD
Indoor/Outdoor Motion Detector
The FWMD Motion Detector sends Wireless Radio Frequency (RF) signals to a Black&Decker Messenger Hub FWMH). The Hub
then passes the signals onto your house wiring to turn on lights, appliances, or Freewire wireless cameras around your home. You
plug your lights and appliances into Freewire Modules (sold separately). You can set the Motion Detector to turn the lights or
cameras off after motion stops. You can set this for a preset time of 1, 2, 4, 8 minutes etc., (see below for more details). You can set the
unit to work at all times or only at night.
Installation: Remove the screw from the bottom of the FWMD Motion Detector. Remove the battery cover and install two AAA
alkaline batteries. Observe polarity. Leave the cover off for now. Plug in a Messenger Hub (FWMH, sold separately) and set it to
Housecode A, and Unit Code 1. Plug a lamp into a Freewire Lamp Receiver (sold separately) and set it to Housecode A and Unit Code
1. Plug the module into any AC outlet.
Synchronize the Motion Detector to work with the Hub: Set the Hub to Learn. Press the Synchronize button on the Motion Detector.
The green indicator on the Hub flashes. Set the Hub back to Run.
To test the Motion Detector: Press the Synchronize button once. The Motion Detector transmits the “device ON” RF signal and its
red light flashes. Press the Synchronize button once again. The Motion Detector transmits the “device OFF” RF signal and its red
light flashes. If you set a Hub and a Lamp Receiver to A1 they will both turn on and off when you repeatedly press the Synchronize
button on the Motion Detector.
Place the Motion Detector on a shelf or mount it on a wall at least 6 feet above the ground. Let it settle for a minute and then walk past
it. The lamp connected to any Lamp Receiver set to A1, or a camera set to A1 turns on. The light or camera turns off a short time later
as long as no motion has been detected. The default time is 1 minute but you can change this (see below for more details). You can
now screw the Motion Detector to a wall and replace the battery cover.
To change the Unit Code that the Motion Detector transmits:
Turn its dial to any number (1-16).
To change the delay after motion is detected before an OFF code is transmitted:
Turn the dial on the Motion Detector to the desired setting:
0 (no off code sent), 1 minute, 2 minutes, 4 minutes, 8 minutes, 16 minutes, 32 minutes, 64 minutes, 128 minutes. 256 minutes.
To change when the Motion Detector detects motion:
Set the switch inside the battery compartment to “24Hr” if you want the Motion detector to detect motion at all times. Set the switch
to “Night” if you only want it to detect motion when its dark (be sure to place the unit in a place where it can see if its dark outside,
and don’t place it near the light that it turns on when it detects motion.
Dusk/Dawn sensing:
If you set the “off delay” to 0 AND set the Motion Detector to only work when its dark, it will not detect any motion at all, but will
instead turn on a light when it gets dark and turn it off when it gets light. The light it controls it set by the position of its Unit Code
dial (1-16) and the setting of the Housecode dial on the Hub (A-P).
NOTES:
After replacing batteries, and after a transmission, you need to wait 30 seconds before the Motion Detector will see any motion.
The default time after which an OFF code is sent is 1 minute.
When the Motion Detector turns on a camera, other cameras in a group of 3 turn off, but you might not want the Motion Detector to
turn cameras off after motions stops, best to set the off delay to 0 minutes when using the Motion Detector with cameras.
If the Hub is set to Learn, and the Motion Detector sees motion, it will synchronize itself to the Hub, i.e. you won’t need to press its
Synchronize button to Synchronize it.
