In-Car Router © 2008 Autonet Mobile Inc. Serial Number Safety Precautions The Autonet Mobile installation instructions must be followed to minimize potential interference with other electronics on the vehicle. WARNING To prevent injury or fire, take the following precautions: • When extending the ignition, battery, or ground wires, make sure to use automotive grade wires or other wires with a diameter of Xmm (AWG 16) or more to prevent wire deterioration and damage to the wire coating. • To prevent a short circuit, never put or leave any metallic objects (such as coins or metal tools) inside the unit. • If the unit starts to emit smoke or strange smells, disconnect immediately and consult the Autonet Mobile Customer Service Center. • Do not touch the In-Car Router during use because the surface of the unit becomes hot and may cause burns if touched. • Mounting and wiring this product requires skills and experience. For safety’s sake, leave the mounting and wiring work to professionals. CAUTION To prevent damage to the In-Car Router, take the following precautions: • Be sure the In-Car Router is connected to a 12v DC power supply with a negative ground connection. • Do not open the bottom covers of the In-Car Router. • Do not install the In-Car Router in a spot exposed to direct sunlight or excessive heat or humidity. Also avoid places with too much dust or the possibility of water splashing. • When replacing a fuse, only use a new one with the prescribed rating. Using a fuse with the wrong rating may cause your unit to malfunction. • To prevent a short circuit when replacing a fuse, first disconnect the wiring harness. NOTE • If you experience problems during installation, consult the Autonet Mobile Customer Service Center. • If the In-Car Router does not seem to be working right, consult the Autonet Mobile Customer Service Center. Wiring • Take the power wire for the In-Car Router directly from the ignition power source. If it’s connected to the vehicles wiring harness, it can cause blown fuses, etc. If it is connected directly to the cars battery it can deplete the battery. • Do not allow the wire to directly contact the edge of the iron plate by using grommets. • Connect the ground wire to a metal part of the car chassis that acts as an electrical ground passing electricity to the battery’s negative terminal. Do not turn the power on if the ground wire is not connected. • Be sure to install the protective fuse in the power cord. • For the power cord and ground, use a vehicle type (fireproof) power wiring cord with a current capacity greater then the units fuse capacity. Use a power cord with a diameter 8mm (AWG 8) or greater. Cleaning the In-Car Router If the In-Car Router becomes dirty, turn off the power and wipe the panel with a dry silicone cloth or soft cloth. Do not wipe the In-Car Router with a hard cloth or a cloth dampened by volatile solvents such as paint thinner and alcohol. They can scratch the surface of the In-Car Router and/or cause the sealant to peel off. To prevent the battery from draining please refrain from leaving the key in the ACC on position. This powers the In-Car Router up and could possibly deplete the battery. FCC WARNING FCC Compliance Statement Exposure to Radio Frequency Signals This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. Autonet Mobile is a low power radio transmitter and receiver. When it is turned on, it sends out and receives RF signals. Autonet Mobile complies with FCC guidelines respecting safe levels of RF exposure for handled wireless devices, which in turn are consistent with the following safety standards previously set by certain standards bodies: · • ANSI/IEEE C95.1-1999, IEEE Standard for Safety Levels with Respect to Human Exposure to Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields, 3 kHz to 300 GHz; • National Counsel on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) Report 86, - 1986, Biological Effects and Exposure criterion for Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Fields; and• International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) 1988, Guidelines for limiting exposure to timevarying electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields (up to 300 GHz). To maintain compliance with FCC exposure guidelines, use only accessories supplied or approved by Autonet Mobile, Inc Specific Absorption Rate Data Autonet Mobile meets U.S. government requirements for exposure to radio waves. Autonet Mobile is a radio transmitter and receiver. It is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to RF energy set by the FCC. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted levels of exposure to RF energy for the general population. These guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user’s authority to operate the equipment. Selecting a Mounting Location The In-Car Router is typically mounted in the following locations. • On the inside rear side panel in an SUV or Van • Under the rear deck lid in a sedan • In the trunk of the vehicle • The In-Car Router should be mounted in a location that gives the antennas the fewest obstructions to the outside world as possible. • The In-Car Router should be mounted so that the blue LED and the serial number on the top of the unit are visible. The user will need access to these when calling the Autonet Mobile Customer Service Center. Do NOT install the In-Car Router in the following locations: • In a location that interferes with driving • In a location that gets wet • In a dusty location • In a place that gets hot • In a place that gets direct sunlight • In a location that gets hit by hot air • Within 20 cm of any passenger • Do NOT install the In-Car Router under the carpet. Otherwise heat build-up occurs and the unit may be damaged. • Install the In-Car Router in a location which allows heat to easily dissipate. Once installed, do not place any object on top of the In-Car Router. • The surface area of the In-Car Router may become hot during use. Install the InCar Router in a place where people, resins, and other substances that are sensitive to heat will not come into contact with it. • When making a hole in a side panel, under a seat, in the trunk, in the rear deck or somewhere else in the vehicle, check that there is nothing hazardous on the opposite side such as a gas tank, brake pipe, battery, or wiring harness, and be careful not to cause scratches or other damage. • Do NOT install near the dashboard, rear tray, or air bag safety parts. • Installation into the vehicle should securely fasten the unit to a place in which it will not obstruct driving. If the unit comes off due to a shock and hits a person or safety part, it may cause injury or an accident. • After installing the unit, check to make sure that electrical equipment such as the brake lamps, turn signal lamps and windshield wipers operate normally. Mounting the In-Car Router 1. Using the self tapping screws attach the unit to the vehicle. 2. Do NOT over tighten the screws. 3. Ensure that the unit is securely fastened and that it cannot be dislodged. Electrical wiring 1. Remove the ignition key and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. 2. Electrical wire must be routed to the power source in a manner that prevents the wire from being damaged or nicked in any way. It should also be ensured that the wire is not exposed in a manner that may allow it to become snagged or entangled in any way. 3. Connect the power wire (Red wire) to a circuit that only provides power when the ignition is turned on. 4. Connect the ground wire (Black wire) to a metal part of the car chassis that acts as an electrical ground passing electricity to the battery’s negative terminal. 5. When the In-Car Router is initially powered up, the blue LED on top of the In-Car Router will come on for a few seconds. 6. Refer to the Users Guide for operational instructions If you have any questions or problems, please call the Autonet Mobile Customer Service Center at 1-800-977-2107
