BadgerMeter,Inc.®InstallationDataIDENTIFICATIONThe Badger Meter RECORDALL® Transmitter Register (RTR) isavailable for all remote and pit settings where a Badger Meter watermeter can be located. The RTR is permanently sealed to eliminatemoisture, dirt, and other contaminants to insure reliable operation insubmerged or indoor applications. As the foundation for BadgerMeter's MRT products, including ORION, the RTR provides a digitaloutput for superior electronic resolution.Available for all RECORDALL Disc, Turbo, Compound and Fire SeriesMeters, each RTR is clearly identified on the face of the dial with anassembly number, unit of measure, and meter model (see figure 1.)REQUIRED MATERIAL(3) 59761-001 Gel ConnectorsSUGGESTED TOOLS59983-001 Gel-Splice Crimping Tool59989-001 Coax Stripper59991-001 Wire Cutting Pliers59993-001 Wire StripperTorx DriverOptional - 3MTM ScotchlokTM Model E-9C Cartridge ToolOptional - 59987-001 VOM Multimeter (Analog)Before proceeding with installation, be certain that the meter type andsize correspond, and that the proper RTR configuration has beensupplied for the application.Figure 1. IdentificationINSTALLATIONCONNECTING RTRThe RTR should only be connected to a Badger Meter approvedproduct. Connection to an unapproved product will void theRTR warranty. To connect to an AMR module, strip approximately 1 ½” of outerinsulation sheath from the RTR and AMR module cables using the59989-001 Coax Stripping Tool. Use caution in removing the outersheath so that the inner signal wire insulation is not damaged.Unwind the outer foil shield from the RTR cable and cut it off even withthe outer sheath using the wire cutting pliers. To connect an Remote ORION module to a Badger register with abrown-insulated cable, connect as follows:• Red to red• Green to green• Black to black• Shield to whiteThis configuration supports the cut cable feature (Badger registerequipped with a black-insulated cable does not support cut cable.)Verify the RTR has a brown cable and contains a label with "IT/OR"for ORION Installation. Connect the RTR conductors to the AMRmodule conductors using insulation gel connectors P/N 59761-001.Crimp the cables completely using a parallel jaw crimper such asBadger Meter P/N 59983-001.Model RTR®Recordall® Transmitter RegisterRemote ORION® 3-WireRTR-I-35P/N XXXXX-XXX5-02Shield to WhiteChanges and modifications to this product that are not ex-pressly approved by Badger Meter, Inc. will void your authorityto operate the equipment as originally approved by the FederalCommunication Commission (FCC.)

Remove excess cable tie with wire cutting device.Do not strip any insulation from the ends of the wires beforeyou push them into the connector. If using a 3M Scotchlok ModelE-9C Cartridge tool, push theends of the wires to beconnected into the connector atthe end of the crimping tool, asshown to the left. Then squeeze the crimping toolhandle until it pushes theconnector (now crimped) out ofthe tool when you release thehandle.A connector is crimpedproperly if thetop of the movable, yellowcenter part is flush with thetop of the connector body.Crimping the connectorssometimes squeezes somesealant out of them. The sealantprotects the inside of theconnector against insects, moisture, and othercontaiminants. The sealant may cause minimaleye and skin irritation. Avoid eyecontact. Avoid prolonged orrepeated skin contact.Push the wires that are to beconnected together as far aspossible into the connector.Place the connector (with wires)into the jaws of the crimping tool.Crimp the connector bysqueezing the handles until theconnector looks like this.Continue to apply pressure forthree seconds.Crimping Tool3M Scotchlok Model E-9CCartridge ToolRecordall®, ORION® and RTR® are registered trademarks of Badger Meter, Inc.Torx is a registered trademark of Camcar, Division of Textron, Inc. 3MTM andScotchlokTM are trademarks of 3M.
