system. With transit vehicles becoming more sophisticated, and
compressed air requirements increasing, Bendix offers this next
generation high-performing, energy-saving compressor option.

H i g h A ir D e liver y
The Bendix® BA-922® air compressor is unique because it
provides high air delivery even at low speeds, a critical feature
for urban transit routes. This compressor’s ability to recharge the
system quickly and efficiently at those low speeds makes it ideal
for more demanding brake system applications, such as transit
coaches that are often starting, stopping, lifting, etc. It is a highoutput, two-cylinder compressor that supplies 32 cfm (cubic feet
per minute) displacement at 1,250 rpm (revolutions per minute).
That’s important, since high output results in lower duty cycle,
and lower duty cycle results in longer compressor life.

Unlike other high-air-output compressors, the Bendix®
BA-922® air compressor’s standard design is capable of
powering a 25 horsepower accessory at any speed. If your
application requires higher thru-drive power – an option that
may be possible – it will be necessary for you to consult with
one of the experienced Bendix air compressor engineers.

E ff i cie n t Un lo ader Valv ing
By incorporating integral unloader valving in the cylinder head,
the powerful Bendix® BA-922® air compressor eliminates special
valve requirements. This unique design not only reduces the
number of ports, it also reduces unloaded horsepower draw.

E ff ective Cooling Sy st em s
The cylinder head of this hard working unit provides lower
discharge air temperatures by incorporating highly effective
cooling surfaces, thereby reducing carbon formation and resulting
in higher air quality. Minimizing discharge temperature increases
the service life of downstream air brake components, such as the
air dryer and valves.

Co m pact, Light w eight Design
Highly efficient, the Bendix® BA-922® two-cylinder air compressor
replaces earlier four-cylinder designs. While its volume output is
similar to the Bendix® Tu-Flo 1400® air compressor, this smaller
and lighter compressor is 4½ inches shorter and weighs 33
percent less due to its simpler design and extensive use of
aluminum components. And its compact size enables it to meet
OE installation constraints in tight engine compartments without
compromising its high-air-output capability.

The Bendix ® BA-922 ® Air Compressor

As the source of energy for a vehicle’s air brake system and
accessories, the Bendix® BA-922® air compressor is driven by the
vehicle’s engine and utilizes the vehicle’s lubrication and cooling system. Because of these shared systems, regular vehicle
maintenance, such as oil changes and coolant flushing, is critical.
This vehicle maintenance – along with regular air brake system
and air accessory maintenance – keeps the compressor running
efficiently.
