Effective approximately in December 1976, a revised version of the E-6 brake valve will
be placed in production which will have a “softer” feel than the present. This revised
valve will have increased plunger/treadle travel at low delivery pressures, giving better
brake feel to the driver. It will also have decreased treadle effort at crack pressure
position, adding to the improved driver feel and will have improved low temperature
operation (-40°F.).
The present basic valve, 286171 will be revised and retained for service. 289098 will be
a new basic piece number to satisfy the requirements of certain OEM customers who
have requested a new piece number because of the revisions. Service requirements will
be handled with the old basic piece number 286171.
A new catalog sheet is being issued, as well as revisions to the Instruction and Service
Data Sheet SD-65. The field maintenance kit 287368 will be revised to include the new
and revised parts and Field Maintenance Instruction Sheet BW-S-513 is being revised
accordingly.
