SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS 183SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS GPS The Global Positioning System (GPS) is op-erated by the government of the UnitedStates, which is solely responsible for its ac-curacy and maintenance. The system is sub-ject to changes that could affect theaccuracy and performance of all GPS equip-ment.Any navigation instrument can be misusedor misinterpreted, and therefore becomeunsafe. Automatically sent telematics messages areonly allowed to authorised numbers listedin the phone. Such numbers can be, e.g.emergency and service center numbers. Position of the phone is retrieved by theGPS, or by the network parameters (the lat-ter is a network-dependent service). Thecarrier for telematics messages is an SMS-message. Deliveries of all messages is fullyhandled by and in the responsibility of theGSM network operator and services canvary substantially. The charge of a protocol message is deter-mined on the contract by the service pro-vider.
184 SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONSEMERGENCY CALLSThe phone is an aid and should never be re-lied upon as an only emergency device. Itsfunctionality is dependent on GSM networkand GPS satellites which may not be avail-able all the time. To make emergency calls, the phone mustbe turned on and located in an area with ad-equate GSM network signal strength. Somenetworks also require that a valid SIM cardis inserted in the phone. Emergency calls may not be possible on allGSM phone networks or when certain net-work services or phone features are in use.In unclear cases, consult your network op-erator. GENERALThe phone may cause TV or radio interfer-ence if used in close proximity to receivingequipment. The FCC can require you tostop using the phone if such interferencecannot be eliminated.Vehicles using liquefied petroleum gas(such as propane or butane) must complywith the National Fire Protection Standard(NFPA-58). For a copy of this standard, con-tact the National Fire Protection Associa-tion, One Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA02269, Attn: Publication Sales Division.Normal operation•Hold the phone as you would hold anyother phone, with the antenna pointedup and over your shoulder. These limits are designed to providereasonable protection against harmful in-terference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can ra-diate radio frequency energy and, if not in-stalled and used in accordance with theinstructions, may cause harmful interfer-ence to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that inter-ference will not occur in a particular instal-lation. If this equipment does causeharmful interference to radio or televisionreception, which can be determined byturning the equipment off and on, the useris encouraged to try to correct the interfer-ence by one or more of the following mea-sures:
190 SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS•Reorient or relocate the receivingantenna.•Increase the separation between theequipment and receiver.•Connect the equipment into outlet on acircuit different from that to which thereceiver is connected.•Consult the dealer or an experiencedradio/TV technician for help. Any changes or modifications to yourphone not expressly approved in this docu-ment could void your warranty for thisequipment and void your authority to oper-ate this equipment. FCC RADIO FREQUENCY EMISSIONThis phone meets the FCC Radio FrequencyEmission Guidelines. FCC ID number:QFPTGP79AE. More information on thephone’s SAR can be found from the follow-ing FCC website: http:/www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid.SPECIFIC ABSORPTION RATE (SAR) FOR WIRELESS PHONESThe exposure standard for wireless mobilephones employs a unit of measurementknown as the Specific Absorption Rate, orSAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is1.6W/kg. This SAR is value that correspondsto the relative amount of RF energy absort-ed in the head of a user of a wireless hand-set.The SAR value of a phone is the result of anextensive testing, measuring and calcula-tion process. Tests for SAR are conductedusing standard operating positions accept-ed by the FCC with the phone transmittingat its highest certified power level in all test-ed frequency bands. Although the SAR is de-termined at the highest certified powerlevel, the actual SAR level of the phonewhile operating can be well below the max-imum value. This is because the phone isdesigned to operate at multiple power lev-els so as to use only the power required to
SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS 191reach the network. In general, the closeryou are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower the power output. While theremay be differences between the SAR levelsof various phones and at various positions, they all meet the government requirment. All phones must meet the federal standard, which incorporates a substantial margin ofsafety. As stated above, variations in SARvalues between different model phones donot mean variations in safety.BODY-WORN OPERATIONFor body worn operation, this phone hasbeen tested and meets the FCC RF exposureguidelines when used with the Benefon ac-cessories supplied or designated for thisproduct. Use of other accessories may notensure compliance with FCC RF exposureguidelines.SAR compliance for body-worn operatingconfigurations is limited to the specific belt-clips/holsters/accessories shipped with thisproduct. SAR compliance is limited to thebatteries shipped with this product. For more information about RF exposure, please visit the FCC website atwww.fcc.gov.
