It is designed and manufacturednot to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy set by the FederalCommunications Commission (FCC) of the U.S. Government, Industry Canada of the CanadianGovernment (IC), and recommended by The Council of the European Union when used as directedin the previous section. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permittedlevels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that weredeveloped by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation ofscientific studies. The exposure standard for wireless devices employs a unit of measurement known as the SpecificAbsorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC/IC is 1.6W/kg*. The SAR limit recommendedby The Council of the European Union is 2.0W/kg**. Tests for SAR are conducted using standardoperating positions specified by the FCC/IC with the device transmitting at its highest certified powerlevel in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified powerlevel, the actual SAR level of the device while operating can be well below the maximum value. Thisis because the device is designed to operate at multiple power levels so as to use only the powerrequired to reach the network. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base station antenna, thelower the power output. Before a wireless device model is available for sale to the public, it must be tested and certified tothe FCC, IC, and The Council of the European Union that it does not exceed the limit established bythe government-adopted requirement for safe exposure under the recommendations of theInternational Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). The tests are performed inpositions and locations (for example, at the ear and worn on the body) as required by the FCC, IC,and The Council of the European Union for each model. The highest SAR value for your BlackBerry smartphone model when tested for use at the ear isoutlined as follows:
Smartphone SAR (W/kg) for 1 g SAR (W/kg) for 10 gBlackBerry Curve 9220smartphone (model numberREX41GW)1.35 1.61Carrying solutions, including RIM approved carrying solutions and carrying solutions not approvedby RIM, that do not come equipped with an integrated belt clip SHOULD NOT be worn or carried onthe body. Some hearing devices are more immunethan others to this interference, and wireless devices also vary in the amount of interference thatthey generate. The wireless telephone industry has developed ratings to assist hearing device users in findingwireless devices that may be compatible with their hearing devices. Not all wireless devices havebeen rated. Wireless devices that are rated will have the rating displayed on the box together withother relevant approval markings. The ratings are not guarantees. Results will vary depending on the user's hearing device and hearingloss. If your hearing device is vulnerable to interference, you may not be able to use a rated wirelessdevice successfully.Consulting with your hearing health professional and testing the wireless device with your hearingdevice is the best way to evaluate it for your personal needs. This BlackBerry smartphone has been tested and rated for use with hearing aids for some of thewireless technologies that the BlackBerry smartphone uses. However, other wireless technologiesmay be used in this BlackBerry smartphone that have not been tested for use with hearing aids. It isimportant to try the different features of your BlackBerry smartphone thoroughly and in differentlocations to determine if you hear any interfering noise when using this BlackBerry smartphone withyour hearing aid or cochlear implant. Consult your wireless service provider about its return andexchange policies and for information about hearing aid compatibility. How the ratings workM-Ratings: Wireless devices rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to generate lessinterference to hearing devices than wireless devices that are not labeled. M4 is the better or higherof the two ratings.T-Ratings: Wireless devices rated T3 or T4 meet FCC requirements and are likely to be more usablewith a hearing device's telecoil ("T Switch" or "Telephone Switch") than unrated wireless devices.T4 is the better or higher of the two ratings.
