Look at the following connection types for information and tips onusing each type.Network connectionsMobile networkA mobile network connection allows your device to make calls and, if you have a data plan, use data services such asInternet browsing. In some locations, such as in a hospital or on an airplane, you need to turn o your mobile networkconnection, but you can usually leave your mobile network connection on.User GuideBlackBerry Strictly ConfidentialSettings68
Wi-FiA Wi-Fi network connection is another way to use data services on your device, but, unlike the mobile network, using Wi-Fidoesn't add charges to your data plan. Your device is designed to try to use saved Wi-Fi networks before it connects to themobile network for basic data functions, such as searching the Internet or downloading apps. You can leave Wi-Fi on sothat as soon as you're in range of a saved Wi-Fi network, your device connects to it automatically. Keep in mind that if youleave the Wi-Fi network connection on, your battery can lose power more quickly.Connections between devicesUSBYou can use a USB cable to create a two-way connection between your device and a computer. Your device appears onyour computer as a mapped drive. You can usually use a USB connection to drag files between your computer and yourdevice, depending on the features available on your computer.Bluetooth technologyBluetooth wireless technology allows you to create a direct connection between your device and another Bluetoothenabled device. Although you can transfer files over a Bluetooth connection, because of its ability to stream content,Bluetooth connections are more commonly used for actions such as playing the music on your device through a separatespeaker or making calls on a headset that is using your device's mobile network connection.NFCNFC is a short-range wireless technology that's used to quickly create connections between your device and other NFC-enabled devices or NFC tags. With NFC, you don't need to enter pairing information to make a connection, making NFCuseful for on-the-go actions. You can exchange contact cards with people that you meet or grab information from a posterthat contains an NFC tag. Features including Android™ Beam, Tap and Pay, and Tap and Go use NFC to transferinformation between devices.Shared Internet connectionsYou can use your device's connection to the mobile network to allow other devices to access the Internet. This functionalityis useful if you want to browse the Internet on your laptop or a Wi-Fi only tablet but you don't have access to a Wi-Finetwork.User GuideBlackBerry Strictly ConfidentialSettings69
Internet tetheringYou can use Internet tethering when you have only one device that you want to connect to the Internet through yourdevice's mobile network connection. You can connect the device to your BlackBerry device using a USB cable or, if bothdevices are Bluetooth enabled, you can use Bluetooth technology instead.Mobile hotspotYou can use mobile hotspot mode to connect up to ten devices to your BlackBerry device. The number of devices that youcan connect depends on your device model. When you use the mobile hotspot feature, your device becomes a Wi-Fiaccess point that other Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect to and use to access the Internet.VPN connectionsYou can connect your device to a virtual private network (VPN) using the mobile network or a Wi-Fi connection. While yourdevice is connected to the VPN, you can send data to and receive data from the private network across the public network.Turn on airplane modeIn some places, such as on an airplane or in a hospital, you need to turn o all of the connections on your device.
