Features • Bluetooth technology eliminates the need to physically connect your Bluetooth enabled device. • Rechargeable battery provides hours of Bose® performance. • AUX connector lets you connect any music source to your speaker. • Pair up to eight Bluetooth devices. • Easy grab-and-go mobility. 6 - English Introduction Unpacking Check the carton for the Bose® SoundLink® Color Bluetooth speaker, AC power supply, and power supply cord (USB). Be sure to save all packing materials. They provide the safest means for any necessary shipping or transporting. If any part of the product appears to be damaged, do not attempt to use it. Contact your authorized Bose dealer immediately or call Bose Customer Service. For contact information, visit: owners.Bose.com AC power supply SoundLink® Color speaker Power supply cord (USB) Adapters (Included only in certain regions) English - 7 Operation Connecting to AC power Before using your speaker, connect it to power and charge the battery. Allow 3 hours for a full charge. You can use the speaker while it is charging. 1. Plug the small end of the power supply cord into the POWER connector on the back of the speaker. 2. lug the large end of the power supply cord into the connector on the AC power supply. 3. Extend the power supply prongs. If needed, snap on the adapter for your region. To remove an adapter, press back on the release tab (A) and lift the adapter up and off (B). 4. Plug the power supply into an AC (mains) power outlet. The battery indicator glows amber. Note: Y ou can also charge the speaker by connecting the power supply cord to a powered USB port on your computer. For fastest charging time, use the USB power supply cord provided by Bose. 8 - English Operation Selecting a language for the voice prompts The speaker features voice prompts to guide you through the pairing and connecting processes. The voice prompts also indicate the battery charge level and the name of the currently connected device. The first time you use your speaker, you will need to select a language: 1. 2. Press to turn on the speaker. Press or to move through the list of language options: English, Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Polish 3. When you hear your language, press and hold to select. Turning voice prompts off If you prefer not to hear voice prompts, press and hold time until you hear a tone. and at the same Repeat to turn voice prompts back on. English - 9 Operation Pairing the first mobile device to the speaker After you select a language, the SoundLink® Color speaker will be ready to pair with your mobile device. The Bluetooth indicator blinks blue, and the voice prompt says, “Ready to pair”. 1. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is on. (The Bluetooth menu is usually found in the Settings menu.) 2. Select Bose Color SoundLink from the device list. The Bluetooth indicator glows solid white and the voice prompt says, “connected”. Note: Some devices may require a passcode. Enter 0000 if prompted. With the speaker and the mobile device both on, press and hold until the Bluetooth indicator blinks blue and the voice prompt says, “Ready to pair another device”. 2. On your mobile device, make sure Bluetooth is on. (The Bluetooth menu is usually found in the Settings menu.) 3. Select Bose Color SoundLink from the device list. The Bluetooth indicator glows solid white and the voice prompt says, “ connected”. Note: Some devices may require a passcode. Enter 0000 if prompted. Note: The speaker’s memory can hold up to eight paired devices. See “Speaker Memory” on page 11 for more details. 10 - English Operation Playing music Once your mobile device is connected, start a music app on your mobile device and play music. You can play, pause, track forward track backward, and adjust the volume using either the speaker controls or the device controls. Connecting a previously paired mobile device Turn on the speaker and the device. Press on the speaker. The Bluetooth indicator on the speaker blinks white. When the speaker and Bluetooth device have successfully connected, the Bluetooth indicator glows solid white and the voice prompt says, “ connected”. Speaker Memory The speaker can hold up to eight paired devices in its memory. If you pair a ninth device, the least frequently-used device will be deleted from the speaker’s memory and the new device will be added. When you turn on the speaker, it will connect with the most recently connected device. • Press to hear which device is currently connected. • Press again (within 3 seconds) to connect to the next paired device. Clearing the speaker memory To clear the speaker memory of all devices, press and hold for about 10 seconds, until the voice prompt says, “ Bluetooth device list cleared.” All Bluetooth devices are cleared and the speaker is ready to pair. English - 11 Operation Speaker controls The control buttons are located on the top of the speaker. • Press to turn speaker on/off. • Press to check the battery charge state. • Press and hold to get ready to pair with another device. • Press to hear which Bluetooth device is connected; Press again (within 3 seconds) to connect with the next paired device. • Press to select the Bluetooth source. Press to select the AUX source. Press once to Play/Pause | Press twice to track forward | Press three times to track backward. Volume down/Volume up System status indicators The system status indicators are located on the top of the speaker, above the corresponding buttons. While charging: Green: Fully charged | Amber: Charging | Red blinking: Charging error While playing: Green: High charge | Amber: Medium charge | Red blinking: Low charge Blue blinking: Ready to pair | White blinking: Connecting | White solid: Connected White when AUX is the selected source. 12 - English Operation Connecting an AUX device: You can use your Bose® SoundLink® Color speaker with any device that features headphone or audio output, such as a portable digital music player. This feature requires using a stereo audio cable with a 3.5 mm plug on each end to connect the audio output of your device to the AUX input on the speaker. This type of cable is available for purchase at electronics stores To use the AUX connector: 1. Plug the cable from the audio device into the AUX IN connector on the back of the speaker. 2. Turn on the speaker. 3. Press 4. Adjust the volume on the connected device to near maximum, then use the speaker volume buttons to adjust the volume level. to select the AUX source. English - 13 Operation Operating on battery power Battery performance varies with the content played and loudness at which it is played. In typical use, the speaker battery lasts up to 6 hours. Checking the battery Each time you turn the speaker on, the voice prompt will indicate the battery charge level. The battery indicator also displays the battery level: Green: ..................................... High charge level (70% or more of full charge) Amber: .................................... Medium charge level (20% to 70% of full charge) Red: ........................................ Low charge level (less than 20% of full charge) Charging the battery The battery status indicator on the speaker blinks red when the battery needs charging. You can use the speaker while charging. To charge the battery, connect the speaker to AC power. See “Connecting to AC power” on page 8. The speaker emits a tone to confirm the power connection. Recommended charging time is three hours to fully charge the battery. The battery status indicator indicates charging status. See “System status indicators” on page 12. Battery protection mode When the speaker is unplugged and unused for more than 24 days, it enters battery protection mode to preserve battery power. To reactivate the speaker, connect it to AC power. Tips on placing the speaker When using your Bose® SoundLink® Color speaker indoors, the sound quality can vary depending on where the speaker is placed in a room. When using your speaker outdoors, you should expect the sound quality to change as you move farther away from the speaker. Keep the following guidelines in mind when placing your speaker: • The speaker’s Bluetooth range is 33 feet (10 m). If you move the device farther away from the speaker, sound quality will be affected and the device may disconnect from the speaker. • For optimal sound, the front of the speaker, which has the Bose® logo on the grille, should face the user. • Do not place the speaker in small areas that are enclosed on all sides except the front, as this will adversely affect sound quality. • Do not place the speaker on wet or dirty surfaces. 14 - English Care and Maintenance Troubleshooting Problem What to do Speaker does not turn on • Make sure both ends of the power supply cable are firmly connected. • Make sure the power supply is connected to a live AC (mains) outlet. • Charge the battery. Speaker does not connect with mobile device • Your speaker may be connected to another mobile device. to hear which device is connected. Press again (within 3 Press seconds) to connect to the next paired device. • Your mobile device may be connected to another Bluetooth speaker or headset. Make sure that Bose Color SoundLink is selected in the Bluetooth device list. • Clear the speaker’s memory: Press and hold for about 10 seconds, until the voice prompt says, “Bluetooth device list cleared”. • Remove the speaker from the Bluetooth list on your mobile device. Then try pairing the speaker to the mobile device again. • Refer to your mobile device’s user’s guide to learn how it pairs/connects with devices. No sound or poor sound quality from a Bluetooth device • Make sure you have a music app open and a track playing on your mobile device. • Make sure the volume is turned up on the speaker and on your mobile device. • Move the mobile device closer to the speaker, and away from any interference or obstructions. • Try a different music app or a different track. No audio from the AUX source • Make sure your connected device is on and playing. • Press the AUX button and check that the AUX source indicator is on. • Make sure the 3.5 mm plug is fully inserted into the speaker, and fully inserted into the source device. • Make sure the speaker is not muted and the speaker volume is up. • Increase the volume level on the AUX device. • Try using a different AUX cable. English - 15 Care and Maintenance Replacing the battery The battery should be replaced when: • The battery status indicator remains yellow after ten hours of charging. • The length of battery life noticeably decreases. Only use Bose authorized batteries. For replacement batteries, visit owners.Bose.com for Bose contact information in your country or region. Cleaning To clean the exterior surface of your product, you can wipe it using a soft, dry cloth. • Do not use solvents, chemicals, or sprays. • Do not allow liquids to spill or objects to drop into any openings.
