We at Breville are very safety conscious. We design and manufacture consumer products with the safety of you,
our valued customer, foremost in mind. In addition, we ask that you exercise a degree of care when using any
electrical appliance and adhere to the following precautions:

Important safeguards for your
Breville BarVista Coffee and Spice Grinder
• Carefully read all instructions before operating and
save for future reference.

• Do not use on metal surfaces, for example, a
sink drain board.

• Do not place the Coffee and Spice Grinder near the
edge of a bench or table during operation. Ensure
the surface is level, clean and free of water.

• Do not use on an inclined surface.

• Remove any promotional stickers or packaging
materials before using the Coffee and Spice Grinder
for the first time.
• Do not place the Coffee and Spice Grinder on, or
near a hot gas or electric burner, or where it could
touch a heated oven.
• Always turn the power off at the outlet and then
remove the plug from the power outlet before
attempting to move the grinder, when the coffee
grinder is not in use and before cleaning and storing.

• To protect against electric shock, do not immerse
the power supply cord, plug or Coffee and Spice
Grinder in water or any other liquid.
• Do not operate the Coffee and Spice Grinder
continually for longer than 60 seconds. Allow
appliance to cool down for 10-15 minutes after
extended continuous operation.
• Keep the appliance clean. Follow cleaning
instructions provided in this book.

Important safeguards for all Electrical Appliances
• Unwind the cord fully before use.
• Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table
or counter, touch hot surfaces or become knotted.
• The appliance is not intended for use by young
children or infirm persons unless they have been
adequately supervised by a responsible person to
ensure that they can use the appliance safely.
• Young children should be supervised to ensure
that they do not play with the appliance. Do not
leave the appliance where children can touch
hot surfaces.
• It is recommended to regularly inspect the appliance.
Do not use the appliance if power supply cord, plug
or actual appliance becomes damaged in any way.
Return the entire appliance to the nearest
authorised Breville Service Centre for examination
and/or repair.

• Any maintenance other than cleaning should be
performed at an authorised Breville Service Centre.
• This appliance is for household use only. Do not use
this appliance for anything other than its intended
use. Do not use in moving vehicles or boats. Do not
use outdoors.
• The installation of a residual current device
(safety switch) is recommended to provide
additional safety protection when using electrical
appliances. It is advisable that a safety switch with
a rated residual operating current not exceeding
30mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying
the appliance. See your electrician for
professional advice.

• The Coffee and Spice Grinder will not operate until
the transparent cover is locked in position.
• Do not leave the Coffee and Spice Grinder appliance
unattended when in use.

Operating your Breville BarVista Coffee and Spice
Grinder
Before first use
Remove any promotional stickers or packaging
material attached to your Coffee and Spice Grinder.
1. Remove transparent cover by turning counterclockwise to unlock position, then lift straight up.
Ensure the grinder is clean and empty.
2. Twist the removable bowl clockwise into the
locked position.

3. Pour whole coffee beans directly into removable
bowl and fill to desired level as indicated inside
the bowl. (Min 2 cups – Max 12 cups)
4. Return the transparent cover to locked position
over the removable bowl. Make sure the arrow
on the transparent cover is aligned with the
unlock symbol on side of grinder. Turn lid
clockwise to lock in position.
5. Slowly release the power plug from the storage
position by pulling outwards until it stops. Insert
the power plug into a 230/240v power outlet
and turn the power switch on.
6. Rotate Grind Selector control dial to select desired
fineness of grind. Rotating from left to right,
coarse to finer.

7. Position the Cup Slider control to the total
number of cups to be ground. Slide up and
down from 2 cups to 12 cups.

8. Press START button and release once grinding has
begun. The Coffee and Spice Grinder will stop
automatically when grinding is complete. To stop
grinding cycle at any time, push START button. If
START button is pressed again, grinder will start
from beginning of timed cycle.
9. After grinding is completed, switch the power off
at the power outlet and remove the plug from
the power outlet.
10. Remove the transparent cover by turning counterclockwise to unlock position, lift straight up. Twist
the removable bowl anti–clockwise to unlock
position and lift straight up. Empty ground coffee
into an airtight container for use and storage.
11. Clean the coffee grinder and rewind the cord.
To rewind cord: turn base clockwise, using either
the interior finger grips or the outside of the base.
The Coffee and Spice Grinder will only operate
with the transparent cover in locked position.

Handy hints

Care and cleaning

• For best coffee flavour, store coffee beans in an
airtight container.

• The BarVista is not recommended for chopping
garlic, parmesan cheese and nuts.

• Grind coffee beans immediately before brewing.

• To grind dry seeds, dry spices or dry herbs, place one
to four tablespoons of dry food in the removable
bowl. Select desired fineness of grind and position
the cup slider control according to the level indicated
in the removable bowl i.e. 2 cups – 12 cups. If
unsure of fineness of grind, start with the coarse
setting, and repeat as necessary to achieve the
desired fineness of grind. Press START button to start
grinder. When desired ground size is reached, press
START to stop grinder.

• Grinding times will vary by amount and
fineness setting.
• To ensure optimal grinding performance, allow your
Coffee and Spice Grinder to cool for at least one
minute between uses.
• Coffee flavour and strength is a personal
preference. Vary the type of coffee beans, amount
of coffee and fineness of grind to find the flavour
you prefer.
• To grind amounts not on controls, select the next
closest amount listed.

Do not immerse motor base or cord in water or any
other liquid. Do not fill the stainless steel grinding
base with water or any other liquid.
1. Always switch the power off at the power outlet
and then remove the plug from the power outlet
before cleaning the Coffee and Spice Grinder.

Storage
Always switch off at the power outlet, remove the
plug from outlet. Follow directions for cleaning and
store in an upright position on a flat surface on your
bench top or in an accessible cupboard.

2. Remove transparent cover by turning counterclockwise to unlock position, lift straight up.
3. Remove the grinding bowl by turning counterclockwise until it comes loose from the base.
Lift removable bowl straight up out of base.
4. The removable bowl and lid can be washed in
hot soapy water, rinsed and dry thoroughly.
5. Wipe base with a damp cloth. Wipe exterior of
unit with slightly damp cloth. Polish with a soft,
dry cloth. Do not use abrasives.

• The BarVista Coffee and Spice Grinder will not grind
anything that is sticky or extremely hard ie.
chocolate, whole nutmeg, candied fruits etc.

6. Hold grinder and turn the base clockwise to
rewind cord.

• The BarVista Coffee and Spice Grinder will not make
pastes of any fruits, seeds, nuts or fresh or herbs
ie. curry pastes, nut batters.
