For two years from the date of purchase, when this Craftsman Snow Thrower is maintained, lubricated and tuned up according to the instruc-

tions in the owner's manual, Sears will repair, free of charge, any defect in material and workmanship. If this Craftsman snow thrower is used

for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty applies for only 30 days from the date of purchase.

This warranty does not cover:

•Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as skid shoes, shave plate and spark plugs.

DANGER: This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation in this manual. As with

any type of power equipment, carelessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. This

machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety

instructions could result in serious injury or death.

Training

1. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the

machine and in the manual(s) before attempting to

assemble and operate. Keep this manual in a safe place

for future and regular reference and for ordering

replacement parts.

2. Be familiar with all controls and their operation. Know

how to stop the machine and disengage controls.

3. Never allow children under 14 years old to operate this

machine. Children 14 years old and over should read and

understand the operation instructions and safety rules in

this manual and should be trained and supervised by a

parent.

4. Never allow adults to operate this machine without

proper instruction.

5. Thrown objects can cause serious personal injury. Plan

your snow-throwing pattern to avoid discharge of material

toward roads, bystanders and the like.

6. Keep bystanders, helpers, pets and children at least 75

feet from the machine while it is in operation. Stop

machine if anyone enters the area.

7. Exercise caution to avoid slipping or falling, especially

when operating in reverse.

Preparation

1. Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to

be used. Remove all doormats, newspapers, sleds,

boards, wires and other foreign objects, which could be

tripped over or thrown by the auger/impeller.

2. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields during

operation and while performing an adjustment or repair to

protect your eyes. Thrown objects which ricochet can

cause serious injury to the eyes.

3. Do not operate without wearing adequate winter outer

garments. Do not wear jewelry, long scarves or other

loose clothing, which could become entangled in moving

parts. Wear footwear which will improve footing on

slippery surfaces.

4. Use a grounded three-wire extension cord and

receptacle for all units with electric start engines.

5. Adjust collector housing height to clear gravel or crushed

rock surfaces.

6. Disengage all clutch levers before starting the engine.

7. Never attempt to make any adjustments while engine is

running, except where specifically recommended in the

operator's manual.

8. Let engine and machine adjust to outdoor temperature

before starting to clear snow.

9. To avoid personal injury or property damage use extreme

care in handling gasoline. Gasoline is extremely

flammable and the vapors are explosive. Serious

personal injury can occur when gasoline is spilled on

yourself or your clothes, which can ignite. Wash your skin

and change clothes immediately.

a. Use only an approved gasoline container.

b. Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes and other

sources of ignition.

c. Never fuel machine indoors.

d. Never remove gas cap or add fuel while the

engine is hot or running.

e. Allow engine to cool at least two minutes before

refueling.

f. Never over fill fuel tank. Fill tank to no more than

V2inch below bottom of filler neck to provide space

for fuel expansion.

g. Replace gasoline cap and tighten securely.

h. If gasoline is spilled, wipe it off the engine and

equipment. Move machine to another area. Wait 5

minutes before starting the engine.

i. Never store the machine or fuel container inside

where there is an open flame, spark or pilot light

(e.g. furnace, water heater, space heater, clothes

dryer etc.).

j. Allow unit to cool for 5 minutes before storing.

Operation

1. Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts, in the auger/

impeller housing or discharge chute. Contact with

rotating parts can amputate hands and feet.

2. The auger/impeller clutch lever is a safety device. Never

bypass its operation. Doing so makes the machine

unsafe and may cause personal injury.

3. The clutch levers must operate easily in both directions

and automatically return to the disengaged position when

released.

4. Never operate with a missing or damaged discharge

chute. Keep all safety devices in place and working.

5. Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated

area. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, an

odorless and deadly gas.

6. Do not operate machine while under the influence of

alcohol or drugs.

7. Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcancauseaburn.Do

8. Exerciseextremecautionwhenoperatingonorcrossing

gravelsurfaces.Stayalertforhiddenhazardsortraffic.

16.Ifthemachineshouldstarttovibrateabnormally,stopthe

againsttheengine.Inspectthoroughlyfordamage.

17.Disengageallclutchleversandstopenginebeforeyou

leavetheoperatingposition(behindthehandles).Wait

untiltheauger/impellercomestoacompletestopbefore

uncloggingthedischargechute,makingany

adjustments,orinspections.

18.Neverputyourhandinthedischargeorcollector

openings.Alwaysusetheclean-outtoolprovidedto

unclogthedischargeopening.Donotunclogdischarge

chutewhileengineisrunning.Beforeunclogging,shutoff

engineandremainbehindhandlesuntilallmovingparts

havestoppedcompletely.

19.Useonlyattachmentsandaccessoriesapprovedbythe

manufacturer(e.g.wheelweights,tirechains,cabsetc.).

Maintenance & Storage

1. Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper

operation regularly. Refer to the maintenance and

adjustment sections of this manual.

2. Before cleaning, repairing, or inspecting machine

disengage all clutch levers and stop engine. Wait until the

auger/impeller come to a complete stop. Disconnect the

spark plug wire and ground against the engine to prevent

unintended starting.

3. Check bolts and screws for proper tightness at frequent

intervals to keep the machine in safe working condition.

Also, visually inspect machine for any damage.

4. Do not change the engine governor setting or over-speed

the engine. The governor controls the maximum safe

operating speed of the engine.

5. Snow thrower shave plates and skid shoes are subject to

wear and damage. For your safety protection, frequently

check all components and replace with original

equipment manufacturer's (OEM) parts only. "Use of

parts which do not meet the original equipment

specifications may lead to improper performance and

compromise safety!"

6. Check clutch controls periodically to verify they engage

and disengage properly and adjust, if necessary. Refer to

the adjustment section in this operator's manual for

instructions.

7. Maintain/replace safety/instruction labels, as necessary.

8. Observe proper disposal laws and regulations for gas,

oil, etc. to protect the environment.

9. Prior to storing, run machine a few minutes to clear snow

from machine and prevent freeze up of auger/impeller.

10. Never store the machine or fuel container inside where

there is an open flame, spark or pilot light such as a water

heater, furnace, clothes dryer etc.

11. Always refer to the operator's manual for proper

instructions on off-season storage.

Your Responsibility

Restrict the use of this power machine to persons who read,

understand and follow the warnings and instructions in this

manual and on the machine.

Do not modify engine

To avoid serious injury or death, do not modify engine in any

way. Tampering with the governor setting can lead to a

runaway engine and cause it to operate at unsafe speeds.

Never tamper with factory setting of engine governor.

Notice regarding emissions

Engines which are certified to comply with California and

federal EPA emission regulations for SORE (Small Off Road

Equipment) are certified to operate on regular unleaded

gasoline, and may include the following emission control

systems: Engine Modification (EM) and Three Way Catalyst

(TWC) if so equipped.

Engine Identification Decal

This decal indicates the engine's model number, specification

and the date of manufacture. Please look at the decal on the

engine of your equipment and record these information for

future reference.

The engine identification decal also includes engine life

specifications for the emissions-related useful life period of

the engine. This period relates to the emission compliance life

as certified by EPA and/or CARD. To find the life period

specification of the engine, please read the engine decal and

and locate the letter (enclosed by quotation marks) between

the words Moderate and Life Period. Match one of the

following letters with the letter printed on your decal. For

example, HMSK 80 models are designated as:

"C" -- 250 hours

"B" -- 500 hours

"A" -- 1000 hours

IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with the engine full

of oil. After assembly, see page 10 for fuel and oil fill-up

details.

Removing From Carton

1. Cut the corners of the carton and lay the sides flat

on the ground. Remove all packing inserts.

2. Move the snow thrower out of the carton.

3. Make certain the carton has been completely

emptied before discarding it.

Loose Parts

Your snow thrower has been assembled at the factory

except the parts shipped loose in the carton.

Before Assembly

Disconnect spark plug wire and ground it against the

engine to prevent unintended starting.

NOTE: All references in this manual to the left or right

side of the snow thrower is from the operating position

only. Exceptions, if any, will be specified.

Setting up the Snow Thrower

1. Raise the upper handle assembly in the direction

shown in Figure 1. Align the upper handle with the

lower handles.

Tighten two handle knobs firmly to secure the

upper handle to the lower handles. See Figure 1.

3. Slide the shift rod connector down over the end of

the lower shift rod. Tap the connector until it locks

over the lower shift rod. See Figure 2.

Apply an even coat of lithium grease on the lip of

the chute base.

Make sure that the flange keepers are opened.

Position the chute assembly (forward-facing) over

the chute base. See Figure 3

6. Close the flange keepers to secure the chute

assembly to the chute adapter. The keepers will

click into place when properly secure. See Figure 4.

NOTE: If the flange keepers do not easily click into

place, use the palm of your hand to apply swift, firm

pressure to the back of each.

IMPORTANT: Make certain that all three flange

keepers are securing the chute base lip to the chute

assembly. See Figure 5.

Pull the hairpin clip out of the clevis pin on the chute

support tube. Save both pins.

Place the 4-way chute control in a centered

position. See Figure 6.

9. Insert the round end of the chute control box on the

short tube of the chute assembly as shown in

Figure 7.

10. Insert other end of the chute control box into the

chute support tube. See Figure 7.

11. Insert the clevis pin, earlier removed, through the

holes on the chute control box and chute support

tube. Secure with the hairpin clip. See Figure 8.

13. The extension cord is fastened with a cable tie to

the rear of the auger housing for shipping

purposes. Cut the cable tie and remove it before

operating the snow thrower.

Final Adjustments

After setting up your snow thrower, check the

adjustments as instructed below and make any final

adjustments necessary before operating the unit.

CAUTION: Perform the following test before operating

the snow thrower for the first time and at the start of

each winter season. Failure to comply with these

adjustment instructions may cause damage to the unit.

Auger Control Test

1. To check the adjustment of the auger control, push

forward the left hand control until the rubber

bumper is compressed. There should be slack in

the cable.

2. Release the control. The cable should be straight.

Make certain you can depress the auger control

against the left handle completely.

,_ WARNING: Do not over-tighten the cable.

Over-tightening may prevent the auger from

disengaging and compromise the safety of the

snow th rower.

3. In a well-ventilated area, start the snow thrower

engine as instructed earlier in this section under the

heading StartingEngine.Make sure the throttle is set

in the FAST position.

4. While standing in the operator's position (behind

the snow thrower) engage the auger.

5. Allow the auger to remain engaged for

approximately ten (10) seconds before releasing

the auger control. Repeat this several times.

6. With the engine running in the FAST position and

the auger control in the disengaged "up" position,

walk to the front of the machine.

7. Confirm that the auger has completely stopped

rotating and shows NO signs of motion.

IMPORTANT: If the auger shows ANY signs of rotating,

immediately return to the operator's position and shut

off the engine. Wait for all moving parts to stop before

readjusting the auger control cable.

8. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut and

thread the cable in (for less slack) or out (for more

slack). See Figure 10.

9. Recheck the adjustment. Tighten jam nut against

the cable when correct adjustment is reached.

Drive Control & Shift Lever

1. Tip the snow thrower forward so that it rests on the

auger housing.

2. Move the shift lever all the way forward to the sixth

(6) position.

3. With the drive control released, spin the snow

thrower wheels by hand. The wheels should turn;

however, you may feel some resistance.

4. Engage the drive control. The wheels should no

longer turn.

5. Now release the drive control and spin the wheels

again.

6. Move the shift lever back to the fast reverse

position and then all the way forward again. There

should be no resistance in the shift lever and the

wheels should turn.

7. If you face resistance when moving the shift lever

or the wheels stop when they should not, loosen

the jam nut on the drive cable and unthread the

cable one turn.

8. If the wheels can still be turned when you engage

the drive control, loosen the jam nut on the drive

cable and thread the cable in one turn. Recheck the

adjustment and repeat if needed.

9. Tighten the jam nut to secure the cable when

correct adjustment is reached.

NOTE:For further details, refer to the Adjustment

section on page 20.

Shear Pin Storage

Holes are located in the plastic dash panel for

convenient shear pin storage. See Figure 11.

Skid Shoe

Locate the shave plate and the skid shoes in Figure 13

on page 9. The space between this shave plate and

the ground can be adjusted. For close snow removal,

place skid shoes in the low position. Use middle or

high position when area to be cleared is uneven.

IMPORTANT: It is not recommended that you operate

this snow thrower on gravel as loose gravel can be

easily picked up and thrown by the auger causing

personal injury or damage to the snow thrower.

If for some reason, you have to operate the snow

thrower on gravel, keep the skid shoe in the highest

position for maximum clearance between the ground

and the shave plate.

1. Adjust skid shoes by loosening the four lock nuts

and carriage bolts and moving skid shoes to

desired position. See Figure 12.

2. Make certain the entire bottom surface of skid

shoes are against the ground to avoid uneven wear

on the skid shoes.

3. Tighten nuts and bolts securely.

Tire Pressure (Pneumatic Tires)

The tires are over-inflated for shipping purposes.

Check the tire pressure before operating the snow

thrower. Refer to the tire side wall for tire

manufacturer's recommended psi and deflate (or

inflate) the tires as necessary.

NOTE: If the tire pressure is not equal in both tires, the

unit may pull to one side or the other and the shave

plate will not sit level on the ground.

IMPORTANT: Under any circumstance do not

exceed manufacturer's recommended psi.

Equal tire pressure should be maintained at all

times. Excessive pressure when seating

beads may cause tire/rim assembly to burst

with force sufficient to cause serious injury.

Refer to sidewall of tire for recommended

pressure.

Four-Way Chute ControF M

The chute control lever may need to be lubricated to

reduce its break-in period. Vegetable oil, petroleum jelly

or motor oil can be used as lubricant.

IMPORTANT: This unit is shipped with engine oil in the

engine, but without gasoline. After assembly, see

OPERATION section of this manual for fuel selection

and fill-up.

Drive /Auger Control Lock

The drive control is located on the right handle.

Squeeze down the drive control to engage the wheel

drive. Release to stop.

The drive control also locks the auger control so you

can operate the chute directional control without

interrupting the snow throwing process. If the auger

control is engaged simultaneously with the drive

control, the operator can release the auger control (on

the left handle) and the augers will remain engaged.

Release both controls to stop the augers and wheel

drive.

IMPORTANT: Always release the drive control before

changing speeds.

Auger Control

The auger control is located on the left

handle. Squeeze the auger control to

engage the augers. Release to stop the

snow throwing action. The drive control

must also be released in order to stop

the auger.

IMPORTANT: Refer to AugerControlTeston page 7 prior

to operating your snow thrower. Read and follow all

instructions carefully and perform all adjustments to

verify your snow thrower is operating safely and

properly.

Ignition Key

The ignition key must be inserted and snapped in place

in order for the engine to start. Remove the ignition key

to prevent unauthorized use of equipment. Do NOT

attempt to turn the key.

Four-Way Chute Control TM

This four-way control lever is meant to control the

direction and distance of snow discharge from the

chute. Press the button on the knob and turn it left or

right to rotate the chute to the direction that snow will be

thrown. Tilt the lever forward to decrease the distance

snow will be thrown, and backwards to increase

distance.

Shift Lever

The shift lever is located inthe center ' 6

of the handle panel and is used to _

determine ground speed and direction 4

of travel. It can be moved into any of 3

eight positions. 2

IMPORTANT: Always release drive _ r_

control before changing speeds.

Forward: Your snow thrower has six IR_.-

forward (F) speeds, with position

number one (1) being the slowest fR2.-

speed.

Reverse: Your snow thrower has two

reverse (R) speeds, with position

number one (1) being the slower speed.

Headlight

The headlight is on whenever the engine is running.

Clean-Out Tool

The clean-out tool is designed to clear a clogged chute.

Refer to page 13 for instructions on how to properly use

it.

_ARNING: Never use your hand to clear aclogged chute. Shut off engine and remain

behind handles until all moving parts have

stopped before unclogging. Use the clean-out

tool or a stick to unclog.

Wheel Steering Controls

The left and right wheel steering

controls are located on the underside

of the handles. Squeeze the right

control to turn right; squeeze the left control to turn left.

NOTE: Operate the snow thrower in open areas until

you are familiar with these controls.

Skid Shoe

The skid shoe position is determined by the condition of

the ground from where snow has to be removed. Higher

the snow level, lower will be the skid shoe level. Adjust

it accordingly. Refer to Skid ShoeAdjustmenton page 8.

Before Starting Engine

Oil

The engine was shipped with oil in the engine. Check

oil level before each operation to ensure adequate oil in

the engine. For further instructions, refer to the steps on

page 15.

1. Remove the dipstick from the oil fill.

2. Check and make sure that the level of oil is up to

the FULL mark on the dipstick.

3. If the oil level is not up to FULL, pour fresh oil slowly

through the plug. Replace oil fill dipstick and check

oil level again.

Gas

WARNING: Gasoline is flammable; use

caution when handling or storing it.

WARNING: Do not fill fuel tank while the

snow thrower is running, when it is hot or when

it is in an enclosed area.

WARNING: Keep your snow thrower away

from any open flame or an electrical spark and

do not smoke while filling the fuel tank.

1. Store gasoline in a clean, approved container and

keep the cap in place on the container.

2. Make sure that the container from which you pour

the gasoline is clean and free from rust or other

foreign particles.

3. A plastic cap is provided inside the fuel fill opening

to protect the tank during manufacturing. Remove

and discard. Use the threaded fuel tank cap to

close after fill-up.

4. Always fill the fuel tank outdoors and use a funnel

or spout to prevent spilling

5. Fill fuel tank with clean, fresh, unleaded grade

automotive gasoline.

6. Never fill the fuel tank completely. Fill the tank to

within 1/2" from the top to provide space for

expansion of fuel.

7. Make sure to wipe off any spilled fuel before

starting the engine.

8. Atthe end of the job, emptythe fuel tank ifthe snow

thrower is not going to be used for30 days or

longer. See oft-season storage instructions on

page 22.

To Start Engine

_ARNING: Be sure no one other than theoperator is standing near the snow thrower

while starting or operating. Do not operate this

snow thrower unless the chute assembly has

been properly installed and is secured.

Electric Starter

For location of all the engine controls referred to in this

section, see Figure 13 inset.

Before starting, make sure that the engine has suffi-

cient oil. The snow thrower engine is equipped with a

120 volt A.C. electric starter and recoil starter. The

electric starter is equipped with a three-wire power

cord and plug and is designed to operate on 120 volt

AC household current. Followall instructions carefully.

Cold Start

NOTE: If the unit shows any sign of motion (drive or

augers) with the clutch grips disengaged, shut the

engine off immediately. Readjust as instructed in the

"Final Adjustments" section of the Assembly

Instructions.

WARNING: The electric starter must beproperly grounded at all times to avoid the

possibility of electric shock which may be

injurious to the operator.

1. Determine whether your house wiring is a three-

wire grounded system. Ask a licensed electrician if

you are not certain.

_ ARNING: If your house wiring system is nota three-wire grounded system, do not use this

electric starter under any conditions.

• If your house wiring system is grounded and a

three-hole receptacle is not available at the point

the snow thrower starter will normally be used, one

should be installed by a licensed electrician.

• When connecting the power cord, always connect

cord to starter on engine first, then plug the other

end into a three-hole grounded receptacle.

• When disconnecting the power cord, always unplug

the end from the three-hole, grounded receptacle

first.

2. Attach spark plug wire to spark plug.

3. Turn fuel valve on, if so equipped.

4. Make sure that the auger and drive controls are in

the disengaged (up) position.

5. Move throttle control lever to FAST position.

6. Push key into the ignition slot and snap in place. Do

not turn key.

7. Connect power cord to switch box on the engine.

8. Plug the other end of the power cord into a three-

hole, grounded 120 volt A.C. receptacle.

9. Rotate choke knob to FULL choke position (cold

engine start). If engine is warm, place choke in OFF

position instead of FULL.

10. Push the primer three times.

11. Push down on the starter button until the engine

starts. Do not crank for more than 10 seconds at a

time. This electric starter is thermally protected. If

overheated, it will stop automatically and can be

restarted only when it has cooled to a safe

temperature (a wait of 5 -10 minutes is required).

12. When the engine starts, release the starter button

and slowly rotate the choke to OFF position. If the

engine falters, rotate the choke to FULL and then

gradually to OFF.

13. Disconnect the power cord from the receptacle first

and then from the switch box on the engine.

14. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes

because the engine will not develop full power until

it reaches operating temperature. Operate the

engine at full throttle (FAST) when throwing snow.

Recoil Starter

Make sure that the engine has sufficient oil and the

auger drive and the drive control levers are released.

Cold Start

1. Move throttle control to FAST position.

2. Turn fuel valve on, if so equipped.

3. Push key into the ignition slot and snap in place. Do

not turn key.

4. Rotate choke control to FULL choke position.

5. Push the primer button while covering the vent hole.

Remove your finger from the primer between primes.

Do not prime if temperature is above 500 F; prime

two times between 50° F and 150 F; and prime four

times below 150 F.

6. Pull the starter handle rapidly. Do not allow the

handle to snap back, but allow it to rewind slowly

while keeping a firm hold on the starter handle.

7. As the engine warms up, rotate the choke knob

slowly to OFF position. If the engine falters, return

to FULL choke, then slowly move to OFF choke

position.

8. Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes

because the engine will not develop full power until

it reaches operating temperature.

9. Operate the engine at full throttle (FAST) when

throwing snow.

Warm Start

1. If restarting a warm engine after a temporary shut

down, rotate choke to OFF instead of FULL and do

not prime. Pull starter handle as instructed earlier.

Frozen Recoil Starter

If the starter is froFen and will not turn the engine,

proceed as follows:

1. Pull as much rope out of the starter as possible.

2. Release the starter handle and let it snap back

against the starter.

3. If the engine still fails to start, repeat the first two

steps. If continued attempts do not free starter,

follow the electric starter procedures to start.

4. Avoid freezing of the recoil starter by referring to

instructions below.

Before Stopping

1. Run engine for a few minutes to help dry off any

moisture on engine.

2. Avoid freezing of the starter by following these

steps before stopping the snow thrower:

Recoil Starter

a. With the engine running, pull the starter rope

with a rapid, continuous full arm stroke three

or four times.

Electric Starter

a. Connect powercord to switch box, then to

120 Volt AC receptacle.

b. While the engine is running, push the starter

button and spin the starter for several

seconds.

c. Disconnect power cord from the receptacle

first, then from the snow thrower.

NOTE: The unusual sound from pulling the starter rope

in case of the recoil starter, or from spinning the starter

in case of the electric starter, will not harm the engine.

To Stop The Snow Thrower

1. To stop the wheels, release the drive control on the

snow th rowe r.

2. To stop throwing snow, release auger control.

3. To stop engine, push throttle control lever to "stop"

or "off" and remove ignition key (Do not turn key)

to prevent unauthorized use of equipment.

To Engage Drive

1. With the engine running near top speed, move shift

lever to one of six FORWARD positions or two

REVERSE positions. Select a speed appropriate

for the snow conditions that exist. Use slower

speeds until you are familiar with the process.

2. Squeeze drive control against the right handle and

the snow thrower will move. Release it and the

drive motion will stop.

To Engage Augers

1. To engage augers and start snow throwing,

squeeze the left hand auger control against the left

handle. Release to stop augers.

2. While the auger control is engaged, squeeze the

drive control to move, release to stop. Do not shift

speeds while the drive is engaged.

NOTE: This same lever also locks auger control so you

can turn the chute directional control without

interrupting the snow throwing process.

3. Release the auger control; the interlock mechanism

should keep the auger control engaged until the

drive control is released.

4. Release the drive control to stop both the augers

and the wheel drive. To stop the auger, both levers

must be released.

To Throw Snow

CAUTION: Check the area to be cleared for foreign

objects. Remove, if any.

1. Start the engine following starting instructions.

2. Rotate the discharge chute to the desired position,

(away from bystanders and/or buildings) by moving

the chute control.

3. Select the speed according to snow condition.

CAUTION: Never move the shift lever without first

releasing the drive control.

4. Engage the auger and drive controls following

instructions above.

5. The interlock feature will allow you to remove your

left hand from the auger control.

6. When clearing the first pass through the snow,

control speed of snow thrower according to the

depth and condition of snow.

7. To turn the unit left or right, squeeze the respective

wheel steering control. See Figure 13.

8. On each succeeding pass, readjust the chute to the

desired position and slightly overlap previous path.

9. After the area is cleared, stop the snow thrower

following instructions given below.

Operating Tips

NOTE: Allow the engine to warm up for a few minutes

as the engine will not develop full power until it reaches

operating temperature.

_ ARNING: The temperature of muffler and

surrounding areas may exceed 150 ° F. Avoid

these areas.

• For most efficient snow removal, remove snow

immediately after it falls.

• Discharge snow downwind whenever possible.

Slightly overlap each previous swath.

• Set the skid shoes 1/4" below the scraper bar for

normal usage. The skid shoes may be adjusted

upward for hard-packed snow.

NOTE: It is not recommended that you operate this

snow thrower on gravel as loose gravel can be easily

picked up and thrown by the auger causing an injury or

damage to the snow thrower.

• If for some reason, you have to operate the snow

thrower on gravel, keep the skid shoe in the highest

position for maximum clearance between ground

and shave plate.

• Clean the snow thrower thoroughly after each use.

Clean-Out Tool

The clean-out tool is conveniently fastened to the rear

of the auger housing with a mounting clip. Never use

your hand to clean a clogged chute.

1. Release both the auger control and the drive/auger

control lock.

2. Stop the engine by moving the throttle to the stop

position.

3. Remove the clean-out tool from the mounting clip.

See Figure 14.

4. Use the shovel-shaped end of the clean-out tool to

remove any snow and ice in the chute assembly.

Re-fasten the clean-out tool to the mounting clip on

the rear of the auger housing and restart engine.

While standing in the operator's position (behind

the snow thrower), engage the auger control for a

few seconds to clear any remaining snow or ice

from the chute assembly before continuing to clear

snow,

General Recommendations

• Always observe safety rules when performing any

• The warranty on this snow thrower does not cover

items that have been subjected to operator abuse

or negligence. To receive full value from the

warranty, operator must maintain the snow thrower

as instructed in this manual.

• Drive Mechanism: Once a season or after every

25 hours of operation, remove rear frame cover and

lubricate any chains, sprockets, gears, bearings,

and shafts with engine oil or lubricant spray.

IMPORTANT: Avoid oil spillage on rubber friction

wheel and aluminum drive plate.

• Hex Gear Shaft: Once a season, lubricate the hex

shaft with a penetrating oil, but not grease,

• Gear Case: The gear case is lubricated with

grease at the factory and does not require regular

lubrication. However, if disassembled for any

reason, lubricate with 2 ounces of Shell Alvania TM

grease (part # 737-0168). Before reassembling,

remove old sealant and apply new sealant.

IMPORTANT: Do not overfill the gear case, since

damage to the seals could result.

• Wheels: Once a season, remove the bolt from

each wheel and take the wheel off the axle. Apply a

multipurpose automotive grease on the shaft

before putting back the wheels.

• Shift Rod: Use a grease or light oil to lubricate the

rotating parts of the shift rod after 25 hours of

operation.

• Pivot Points: All pivoting points on the snow

thrower should be lubricated with a light oil once a

season.

Drive/Auger Control Lock: The cam on the ends

of the control rods which interlock the drive and

auger controls must be lubricated at least once a

season or every 25 hours of operation using a

multi-purpose automotive grease. The cam can be

accessed beneath the handle panel. See Figure 15

Check V-Belts

Follow instructions below to check the condition of the

drive belts every 50 hours of operation.

1. Remove the plastic belt cover on the front of the

engine by removing two self-tapping screws.

2. Visually inspect for frayed, cracked, or excessively

worn out belts. Replace, if necessary, following

instructions on page 17.

Check Friction Wheel

Follow instructions below to check the condition of the

friction wheel rubber every 50 hours of operation.

1. Remove the self-tapping screws from the frame

cover underneath the snow thrower. Refer to

Figure 21.

2. Visually inspect the friction wheel rubber for

excessive wear, cracks, or loose fit on the friction

wheel drive hub.

3. Also, engage the drive control and check if the

friction wheel is making contact with drive plate. If it

does not make contact, adjust the drive cable (refer

to page 21) and recheck the friction wheel.

4. Replace friction wheel rubber if necessary. Refer to

instructions on page 19.

5. Re-attach frame cover to the snow thrower and put

the equipment back to operating position.

Checking Oil Level

Before operating snow thrower, check the oil level by

following steps below.

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30

etc.) improve starting in cold weather, these multi-

viscosity oils also result in higher oil consumption when

used above 32°F. Check your snow thrower's engine oil

level more frequently to avoid possible engine damage

from running low on oil.

1. With engine on level ground, oil must be to FULL

mark on dipstick. See Figure 16.

2. Stop engine and wait several minutes before

checking oil level. Remove oil fill cap and dipstick.

3. Wipe dipstick clean, insert it into oil fill hole and

tighten securely.

4. Remove dipstick and check. If oil is not up to the

FULL mark on dipstick, add oil.

Changing Oil

Change engine oil after first two hours of operation and

every 25 hours thereafter.

In order to change oil, you will have to first drain the

used engine oil from the engine and then refill with fresh

oil.

1. Drain oil while engine is warm. Remove oil drain

plug located at the bottom of the recoil starter of the

engine. Catch oil in a suitable container.

2. When engine is drained of all oil, replace drain plug

securely.

3. Remove the dipstick from the oil fill. For location of

the oil fill, see Figure 13. Pour fresh oil slowly

through the plug. Replace dipstick.

Check and make sure that the level of oil is up to the

FULL mark on the dipstick.

Check Chute Cables

Once a season or every 25 hours of operation,

whichever is earlier, check whether the chute cables

have slackened. Adjust if necessary, following

instructions on page 20.

Check Spark Plug

Clean spark plug and reset the electrode gap to 0.030"

at least once a season or every 100 hours of operation;

replace every 200 hours of operation.

• Clean area around the spark plug base.

• Remove and inspect the spark plug.

• Replace the spark plug if electrodes are pitted,

burned, or the porcelain is cracked. See Figure 17.

NOTE: Do not sandblast spark plug. Spark plug should

be cleaned by scraping or wire brushing and washing

with a commercial solvent.

_ ARNING: Always stop the engine,

disconnect spark plug wire and move it away

from the spark plug before performing any

adjustments or repairs. Always wear safety

glasses during operation or while performing

any adjustments or repairs.

Servicing Augers

The augers are secured to the spiral shaft with two

shear pins and cotter pins. See Figure 18. If you hit a

foreign object or ice jam, the snow thrower is designed

so that the pins will shear.

1. If the augers do not turn, check to see if the pins

have sheared.

2. Replace the pins if needed. Two replacement shear

pins and cotter pins have been provided with the

snow thrower. Spray an oil lubricant into shaft

before inserting new pins and securing with new

cotter pins. See Figure 18.

IMPORTANT: NEVER replace the auger shear pins

with standard pins. Any damage to the auger gearbox

or other components, as a result of doing so, will NOT

be covered by your snow thrower's warranty.

Shave Plate and Skid Shoes

The shave plate and skid shoes on the bottom of the

snow thrower are subject to wear. Check these

periodically and replace as necessary.

Replacing Skid Shoe

1. Remove four carriage bolts and lock nuts which

attach two skid shoes to the snow thrower on two

sides. See Figure 18.

2. Reassemble new skid shoes with the same

hardware. Make certain the skid shoes are

adjusted to be level.

Replacing Shave Plate

1. After removing both skid shoes, remove four

carriage bolts and lock nuts which attach shave

plate to the snow thrower housing. See Figure 19.

2. Reassemble new shave plate, making sure heads

of the carriage bolts are to the inside of the housing.

Tighten securely. Re-install skid shoes.

Replacing Belt

Check the condition of both auger belt and drive belt

every 25 hours of snow thrower operation. Replace if

either shows signs of wear and tear. To remove and

replace either the auger belt or the drive belt, follow the

steps below and then proceed to the specific steps

listed under respective sub-headings.

1. Remove belt cover by removing the two self-

tapping screws that secure it to the snow thrower

housing. See Figure 20A.

1. Tip the snow thrower up and forward, so that it rests

Tip the snow thrower up and forward, so that it rests

on the housing. Remove the self-tapping screws

from frame cover underneath the snow thrower and

move the frame cover away. Refer to Figure 21.

4. Back out the stop bolt to create sufficient gap

between the friction wheel disc and the drive pulley.

Pull the drive belt from around the drive pulley and

clear it off the friction wheel disc. See Figure 24.

5. Now moving to the other side of the snow thrower

again, slide the belt off the crankshaft.

6. Replace with new belt, first sliding it through the

crank shaft, then working it around the groove of

the drive pulley and finally wrapping it around the

engine pulley from where the old belt was removed.

Once the belt is firmly placed on the pulleys, make

sure to remove the screwdriver from the idler.

7. Re-install auger belt on the engine pulley.

8. Re-attach frame cover on the snow thrower

housing and put the equipment back to operating

position. Re-attach belt cover with two self-tapping

screws removed earlier.

Friction Wheel Rubber

1. Check the rubber on the friction wheel after 25

hours of operation, and periodically thereafter.

Replace the rubber if any signs of wear or cracking

are found.

2. Drain the gasoline from the snow thrower, or place

a piece of plastic under the gas cap. Move shift

lever to the R2 position.

3. Tip the snow thrower so that it rests on the housing.

Remove the self-tapping screws from the frame

cover underneath the snow thrower.

4. Remove bolt securing the right wheel, and remove

the wheel from the axle.

5. Remove the four screws securing the right drive

cover to the frame. Remove the drive cover from

the side of the frame. See Figure 25.

9. Reassemble new friction wheel rubber to the

friction wheel assembly, tightening the four screws

in rotation and with equal force. See Figure 27.

IMPORTANT: Assemble the rubber on the friction wheel

equally for proper functioning.

10. Insert the shift arm assembly into the friction wheel

assembly and hold assembly in position. See

Figure 28.

11. Slide hex gear shaft through right side of the

housing and the friction wheel assembly.

12. Insert the hex gear shaft through the sprocket and

the spacer. Make certain that chain engages both

the large and the small sprocket.

NOTE: If the sprocket fell from the snow thrower while

removing the hex gear shaft, place the sprocket on the

hex gear shaft. Position the hex hub of the sprocket

toward the friction wheel when sliding the sprocket on

to hex gear shaft.

13. Align the hex gear shaft with the left bearing and

carefully guide this bearing into left side of housing.

14. Install the right bearing on the hex gear shaft and

check that the spacer and bearing in the drive cover

are aligned to the steerable shaft. See Figure 28.

15. Reassemble the drive cover with four screws

removed in step 5. Install the right wheel with the

bolt removed earlier.

16. Reassemble the frame cover with the self-tapping

screws. Flip the equipment back to the operating

position and re-attach the belt cover.

NOTE: If you placed plastic under the gas cap, be

certain to remove it.

Adjustments

_ARNING: If any adjustments are made tothe engine while the engine is running (e.g.

carburetor), keep clear of all moving parts. Be

careful of heated surfaces and muffler.

WARNING: Never attempt to clean chute or

make any adjustments while engine is running.

Shift Rod

To adjust the shift rod, proceed as follows:

1. Place shift lever in sixth (6) position or the fastest

forward speed. See Figure 29A.

2. Remove hairpin clip from the shift handle under the

handle panel. See Figure 29B.

3. Push shift arm assembly down as far as it will go.

See Figure 29C.

4. Rotate the ferrule u ) or down the shift rod as

necessary until the ferrule lines up with the upper

hole in the shift lever. See Figure 29B.

5. Insert ferrule from right side of the snow thrower

into the upper hole in shift lever. See Figure 29B.

6. Reinstall the hairpin clip.

7. Check for correct adjustment before operating the

snow th rowe r.

Chute Control

Once a season or every 25 hours of operation,

whichever is earlier, check whether the four-way chute

control TM cables have slackened. If the chute does not

rotate fully or its pitch cannot be moved up or down, the

chute control cables will have to be adjusted.

To adjust these cables, proceed as follows:

1. To tighten cable, loosen the top nut and tighten the

bottom nut on the cable.

2. Adjust equally on both sides by working on both

cables. See Figure 30.

Drive Control

Refer to the Final Adjustment section of the Assembly

instructions to adjust the drive control. To check the

adjustment, proceed as follows:

1. With the snow thrower tipped forward (be certain to

drain gasoline or place plastic film under the gas

cap if the snow thrower has already been

operated), remove the frame cover underneath the

snow thrower by removing the self-tapping screws.

2. With the drive control released, there must be 1/8"

clearance between the friction wheel and the drive

plate in all positions of the shift lever.

3. With the drive control engaged, the friction wheel

must contact the drive plate.

4. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the jam nut on

the drive cable and thread the cable in or out as

necessary. Tighten the jam nut to secure the cable

when correct adjustment is reached.

5. Reassemble the frame cover and turn the unit back

to its operating position.

NOTE: If you placed plastic under the gas cap, be

certain to remove it now.

Auger Control

To adjust the auger control, refer to page 7.

Skid Shoes

To adjust the skid shoes, refer to page 8.

If the snow thrower will not be used for 30 days or

longer, or if it is the end of the snow season when the

last possibility of snow is gone, the equipment needs to

be stored properly. Follow storage instructions belowto

ensure top performance from the snow thrower for

many more years.

Preparing Engine

_ARNING: Never store snow thrower withfuel in tank indoors or in poorly ventilated

areas, where fuel fumes may reach an open

flame, spark or pilot light as on a furnace, water

heater, clothes dryer or gas appliance.

NOTE: It is important to prevent gum deposits from

forming in essential fuel system parts of the engine

such as the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel hose or tank

during storage.

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or

using ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture which

leads to separation and formation of acids during

storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an

engine while in storage.

To avoid engine problems, the fuel system shouldbe

emptiedbefore storage for 30 days or longer. Follow

these instructions to prepare your snow thrower for

storage:

_ WARNING: Drain fuel into an approvedcontainer outdoors, away from any open flame.

Be certain engine is cool. Do not smoke. Fuel

left in engine during warm weather deteriorates

and will cause serious starting problems.

1. Remove all gasoline from the carburetor and the

fuel tank to prevent gum deposits from forming on

these parts and harming the engine.

2. Run the engine until the fuel tank is empty and it

stops due to lack of fuel.

3. Drain carburetor by pressing upward on bowl drain,

located below the carburetor cover. See Figure 31.

_ARNING: Do not drain carburetor if usingfuel stabilizer. Never use engine or carburetor

cleaning products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer (such as STA-BIL) is an

acceptable alternative in minimizing the formation of

fuel gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer to

gasoline in fuel tank or storage container. Always follow

mix ratio found on stabilizer container. Run engine at

least 10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow it to

reach the carburetor. Do not drain carburetor if using

fuel stabilizer.

4. Remove the spark plug and pour one (1) ounce of

engine oil through the spark plug hole into the

cylinder. Cover spark plug hole with a rag and

crank the engine several times to distribute the oil.

Replace spark plug.

Preparing Snow Thrower

1. When storing the snow thrower in an unventilated

or metal storage shed, care should be taken to

rustproof the equipment. Using a light oil or

silicone, coat the equipment, especially any chains,

springs, bearings and cables.

2. Remove all dirt from exterior of engine and

equipment.

3. Follow lubrication recommendations on page 14.

4. Store equipment in a clean, dry area.

Problem

Engine overheats. 1. Carburetor not adjusted properly.

Excessive vibration. 1. Loose parts or damaged auger.

Unit fails 1. Drive control cable in need of adjustment.

5. Insert the key fully into the switch.

6. Connect spark plug wire.

7. Refer to To Start Engine section in manual.

8. Open fuel shut-off valve. (If Equipped)

1. Move choke lever to OFF position.

2. Disconnect fuel line at carburetor to drain

fuel tank; fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.

3. Drain fuel tank and carburetor. Refill with

fresh fuel.

4. Contact Sears Parts & Repair Center.

1. Connect and tighten spark plug wire.

2. Remove ice and snow from gas cap. Be

certain vent hole is clear.

1. Stop engine immediately and disconnect

spark plug wire. Tighten all bolts and nuts. If

vibration continues, have unit serviced by a

Sears Parts & Repair Center.

spark plug wire. Clean chute assembly and

inside of auger housing with clean-out tool

or a stick.

2. Stop engine immediately and disconnect

spark plug wire. Remove object from auger

with clean-out tool or a stick.

3. Refer to Final Adjustments on page 7.

4. Refer to Service & Adjustments section.

5. Replace with new shear pin(s).

Capacitacion

1. Lea, comprenda y respete todas las instrucciones que figuran en la

ensamblado y operaci6n del equipo. Guarde este manual en un

repuestos.

2. Familiaricese con todos los controles y con su funcionamiento.

3. Nunca permita que niSos menores de 14 aSos eperen esta

los padres.

4. Nunca permita que adultos sin los conocimientos adecuados

acerca de la m_.quina la operen.

5. Los objetos arrojados per la maquina pueden producir lesiones

graves. Planifique el patr6n en el que va air arrojando nieve para

evitar que la descarga de material se realice hacia los caminos, los

observadores, etc.

6. Mantenga a los observadores, ayudantes, mascotas y a los niSos

esta en funcionamiento. Detenga la m_.quina si alguien entra en la

zona.

7. Sea precavido para evitar patinarse o caerse especialmente

cuando opera la ma.quina en revers&

Preparativos

1. Revise minuciosamente la zona donde se utilizara el equipo.

Saque todos los felpudos, peri6dicos, trineos, tablas, cables y otros

objetos extrafios con los que podria tropezar o que podfian ser

arrojados per la barrena /motor.

2. Para protegerse los ojos utilice siempre anteojos o antiparras de

seguridad mientras opera la m_.quina o mientras la ajusta o repara.

Los objetes arrojados que rebetan pueden lesionar gravemente la

vista.

3. No opere la m_.quina sin la vestimenta adecuada para estar al aire

libre en invierno. No utilice alhajas, bufandas largas u otras

prendas sueltas que podfian enredarse en las partes m6viles.

Utilice un calzado especial para superficies resbaladizas.

4. Use un cord6n prolongador y un tomacorriente de tres cables con

conexi6n a tierra para todas las unidades con motores con

encendido electrico.

5. Ajuste la altura de la caja del tomacorriente para limpiar la grava o

las superficies con piedras trituradas.

6. Desengrane todas las palancas de embrague antes de arrancar el

motor.

7. Nunca intente realizar ajustes mientras el motor esta en marcha

excepto en los cases especfficamente recomendados en el manual

del operador.

8. Deje que el motor y la m_.quina se adapten a la temperatura

exterior antes de comenzar a sacar la nieve.

9. Sea sumamente cuidadoso al manipular la gasolina para evitar

lesiones o dafios. La gasolina es altamente inflamable y los

vapores son explosives. Se puede lesionar gravemente si derrama

gasolina sobre usted o sobre la ropa ya que se puede prender

fuego. L_.vese la piel y cambiese de ropa de inmediato.

a. Utilice s61orecipientes para gasolina aprobados.

b. Apague todos los cigarrillos, cigarros, pipas y otras fuentes

de combusti6n.

c. Nunca cargue combustible en la m_.quina en un espacio

cerrado.

d. Nunca saque la tapa de la gasolina ni agregue combustible

mientras el motor esta caliente o en marcha.

e. Deje que el motor se enfrie per Io menos dos minutes

antes de volver a cargar combustible.

f. Nunca recargue el tanque de combustible. Llene el tanque

no mas de 1/2 pulgada per debajo de la base del cuello del

filtro para dejar espacio para la dilataci6n del combustible.

g. Vuelva a colocar la tapa de la gasolina y ajt_stela bien.

h. Limpie la gasolina que se derrame sobre el motor y el

equipo. Traslade la maquina a otra zona. Espere 5 minutes

antes de encender el motor.

i. Nunca almacene la maquina o el recipiente de combustible

en un espacio cerrado donde haya fuego, chispas o luz

piloto (per ejemplo, hornos, calentadores de agua,

calefactores, secadores de ropa, etc.).

j. Deje que la m_.quina se enfrie durante 5 minutes antes de

almacenarla.

Funcionamiento

1. No ponga las manes o los pies cerca de las piezas rotatorias, en la

caja de la barrena /motor o en el canal de descarga. El contacto

con piezas rotatorias puede amputar manes y pies.

2. La palanca del embrague de la barrena /motor es un dispositivo de

seguridad. Nunca pase per alto su funcionamiento. De hacerlo la

operaci6n de la m_.quina es riesgosa y puede ocasionar lesiones.

3. Las palancas del embrague deben funcionar bien en ambas

direcciones y regresar autom_.ticamente a la posici6n de

desengrane cuando se las suelta.

4. Nunca opere la ma.quina si falta un canal de descarga o el mismo

esta dafiado. Mantenga tedos los dispositivos de seguridad en su

lugar yen funcionamiento.

5. Nunca encienda el motor en espacios cerrados o en una zona poco

ventilada. El escape del motor contiene mon6xido de carbono, un

gas inodoro y letal.

6. No opere la ma.quina estando bajo los efectos del alcohol o de

drogas.

7. El silenciador y el motor se calientan y pueden producir

quemaduras. No los toque.

8. Sea sumamente precavido cuando opere la m_.quina sobre una

superficie con grava e cuando la cruce. Mantengase alerta per si se

presentan peligros ocultos o transito.

9. Tenga cuidado cuando cambie de direcci6n o cuando opere la

maquina en pendientes.

10. Planifique el patr6n en el que va air arrojando nieve para evitar que

la descarga de material se produzca hacia las ventanas, las

paredes, los autom6viles, etc. para evitar posibles dafios

materiales o lesiones producidas per los rebotes.

11. Nunca dirija la descarga hacia los nifios, los observadores y las

mascotas ni deje que nadie se pare delante de la ma.quina.

12. No sobrecargue la capacidad de la m_.quina tratando de sacar la

nieve muy ra.pidamente.

13. Nunca opere esta maquina si no tiene buena visibilidad o

iluminaci6n. Siempre debe estar seguro de que esta bien afirmado

y sostenga bien las manijas. Camine, nunca corra.

14. Corte la corriente a la barrena /motor cuando transporte la

maquina o cuando la misma no est,. en uso.

15. Nunca opere la maquina a alta velocidad de desplazamiento sobre

superficies resbaladizas. Mire hacia abajo y hacia atr_.sy tenga

cuidado cuando la use en reversa.

16. Si la maquina comenzara a vibrar de manera anormal, detenga el

motor, desconecte el cable de la bujfa y p6ngala de manera que

haga masa contra el motor. Inspeccione la m_.quina

minuciosamente para ver siesta, dafiada. Repare todos los da_os

antes de encender y operar la maquina.

17. Desengrane todas las palancas de embrague y detenga el motor

antes de dejar la posici6n de operaci6n (detr_.s de las manijas).

Espere a que la barrena /motor se detenga por completo antes de

destapar el canal de descarga, de realizar ajustes o inspecciones.

18. Nunca ponga las manos en las aberturas de descarga o de

recolecci6n. Utilice siempre la herramienta de limpieza que se

adjunta para destapar la abertura de descarga. No destape el canal

de descarga mientras el motor est,. en marcha. Antes de

destaparlo, apague el motor y permanezca detr_.s de las manijas

hasta que todas las partes m6viles se hayan detenido

completamente.

19. Use s61ouniones y accesorios aprobados por el fabricante (por

ejemplo, pesas para las ruedas, cadenas para los neumaticos,

cabinas, etc.).

20. Si se presentan situaciones que no estan previstas en este manual

sea cuidadoso y use el sentido comt]n. Contacte al centro de

servicio Sears para obtener asistencia.

Mantenimiento & Almacenamiento

1. Nunca manipule los dispositivos de seguridad de manera

imprudente. Controle peri6dicamente que funcionen de forma

adecuada. Remftase alas secciones de mantenimiento y ajuste de

este manual.

2. Antes de realizar la limpieza, de reparar o de revisar la maquina,

desengrane todas las palancas de embrague y detenga el motor.

Espere a que la barrena /motor se detenga por completo.

Desconecte el cable de la bujfa y p6ngalo de manera que haga

masa contra el motor para evitar que se encienda de manera

accidental.

3. Verifique frecuentemente que los pemos ytornillos esten ajustados

correctamente para asegurarse de que la maquina est_ trabajando

de manera segura. Ademas realice una inspecci6n visual de la

maquina para controlar si la misma esta dafiada.

4. No cambie la configuraci6n del regulador del motor ni acelere

demasiado el mismo. El regulador controla la velocidad maxima

segura de operaci6n del motor.

5. Las placas de raspado y las zapatas antideslizantes que se usan

con la m_.quina quitanieve se desgastan y se dahan. Para proteger

su seguridad, verifique frecuentemente todos los componentes y

reemplacelos s61ocon partes de los fabricantes de equipos

originales (OEM). "La utilizaci6n de partes que no cumplan con las

especificaciones de equipos originales podria tener como

resultado un rendimiento incorrecto y adem_.s la seguridad podrfa

estar comprometida"

6. Revise los controles del embrague peri6dicamente para verificar

que engranen y desengranen adecuadamente y ajQstelos si es

necesario. Consulte la secci6n de ajustes en este manual del

operador para obtener instrucciones.

7. Mantenga/reemplace las etiquetas/instrucciones de seguridad

segt]n sea necesario.

8. Respete las leyes y reglamentaciones referentes a la disposici6n

correcta de combustible, aceite, etc. para proteger el medio

ambiente.

9. Antes de almacenar la m_.quina enci@dala unos minutos para

sacar la nieve que haya quedado en la misma y para evitar asi que

se congele la barrena /motor.

10. Nunca almacene la m_.quina o el recipiente de combustible en un

espacio cerrado donde haya fuego, chispas o luz piloto como por

ejemplo, calentadores de agua, hornos, secadores de ropa, etc.

11. Siempre consulte el manual del operador para obtener

instrucciones correctas acerca del almacenamiento fuera de

temporada.

Su responsabilidad"

S61opermita que usen esta mgquina electrica las personas que

lean, comprendan y respeten las advertencias y las instrucciones

que aparecen en este manual y en la mgquina.

No modifique el motor

Para evitar lesiones graves o la muerte, no modifique el motor bajo

ninguna circunstancia. Si cambia la configuraci6n del regulador el motor

puede descontrolarse y operar a velocidades inseguras. Nunca cambie

la configuraci6n de fabrica del regulador del motor.

Aviso referido a emisiones

Los motores que estan certificados y cumplen con las regulaciones de

emisiones federales EPA y de California para SORE (Equipos Small Off

Road Equipment) est_.ncertificados para operar con gasolina comt_n sin

plomo y pueden incluir los siguientes sistemas de control de emisiones:

Modificaci6n de motor (EM) y catalizador de tres vfas (TWC) siesta

equipado de esa manera.

Calcomania de identificacibn del motor

Esta calcomanfa indica el nt3mero del modelo del motor, las

especificaciones y la fecha de fabricaci6n. Por favor mire la calcomania

en el motor de su equipo y registre esa informaci6n para referencia

futura.

La calcomania de identificaci6n del motor tambien incluye

especificaciones sobre el perfodo de vida Qtildel motor relacionado con

las emisiones. Este perfodo est,. relacionado con la vida t_tilen

conformidad con las emisiones segt_n Io certificado por EPA y/o CARB.

Para hallar la especificaci6n del periodo de vida t_tildel motor, por favor

lea la calcomania del motor y ubique la letra (entre comillas) entre las

palabras Moderado y Periodo de Vida 0til. Conecte una de las

siguientes letras con la letra impresa en su calcomania. Por ejemplo, a

los modelos HMSK 80 se los designa como:

"C" -- 250 horas

"B" -- 500 horas

"A" -- 1000 horas

Desempaque

1. Retire los tornillos de los lades y extremes superiores de la caja de

embalaje. Retire los paneles de la caja para evitar que se pinchen

las Ilantas o que se produzcan lesiones personales.

2. Retire y descarte la bolsa de plastico que cubre la unidad.

3. Quite cualquier parte suelta que se incluya con su unidad (por

ejemplo, el manual del operador, etc.). Deslice la unidad hasta

sacarla de la caja.

Partes sueltas

Su m_quina quitanieve ha sido montada en la f_.brica excepto las

partes que se envfan sueltas en el cart6n. Se enumeran a

continuaci6n.

a. Cord6n de arranque electrico

b. Pasadores de cuchilla y pasadores de chaveta

Antes del montaje

Desconecte el cable de la bujia y p6ngalo de manera que haga masa

contra el motor para evitar que se encienda de manera accidental.

NOTA: Las referencias que contiene este manual

sobre los lados derecho o lzquierdo de la maquina

quitanieve se hacen observando la misma desde la

posicion de operacidn. Si existiera alguna excepcion

serf especiflcado.

Configuraci6ndelamaquinaquitanieve

1. Eleve el montaje de la manija superior en la direcci6n que se indica

en la Figura 1. Alinee la manija superior con las manijas inferiores.

Ajuste las dos perillas manuales firmemente para asegurar la

manija superior alas manijas inferiores. Vea la Figura 1.

Deslice el conector de la varilla de cambio hacia abajo hasta el

extremo inferior de la varilla de cambio. Golpee suavemente el

conector hasta que se trabe sobre la varilla de cambio inferior. Vea

la Figura 2.

NOTA: Si el conector no esta montado correctamente,

la varilla de cambio girara y no podra cambiar

velocidades ni la direccion del movimiento de la

maquina quitanieve.

4. Ubique el montaje del canal sobre el borde del adaptador del canal.

Vea la Figura 3A.

5. Un extremo de cada abrazadera del canal ya esta. unido a la brida

del canal. Gire el extremo libre de la abrazadera del canal para

alinearlo con la brida del canal, y emp_Jjelohasta que se enganche

en su posici6n. Vea la Figura 3B. Repita con el resto de

abrazaderas del canal.

6. Tire del broche de horquilla para sacarlo de la chaveta de horquilla

en la varilla de sosten del canal. Guarde las piezas meta.licas.

7. Inserte el extremo redondeado de la caja de control del canal en el

tubo corto del montaje del canal, tal y como se muestra en la Figura

3C.

8. Inserte el otro extreme de la caja de control del canal en el tube de

soporte del canal, tal ycomo se muestra en la Figura 3C.

9. Inserte la chaveta de horquilla que quit6 antes atraves de los orificios

de lacaja de control del canal y la varilla de soporte del canal. Asegure

con el broche de horquilla. Vea la Figura 3D.

10. Deslice los cables que van desde el panel de la manija al canal,

dentro de la guia del cable ubicada en la parte superior del motor.

11. Deslice los cables que van desde el panel de la manija a la caja de

control del canal, dentro de la guia del cable tambien. Vea la Figura

La herramienta de limpieza del canal se ajusta con una uni6n de

cable a la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena para el embarque.

Corte la uni6n del cable y retire el cord6n prolongador antes de

operar la maquina quitanieve.

Ajustes finales

Despues de configurar su ma.quina quitanieve, controle los ajustes tal

como se indica debajo y realice los ajustes finales necesarios antes de

operar la unidad.

PRECAUClON: Si no respeta estas instrucciones de ajuste puede daflar

la unidad.

Control de la barrena

1. Para controlar el ajuste del control de la barrena, empuje hacia

adelante la empufiadura del embrague del lado izquierdo hasta

que se comprima el parachoques de goma. El cable del embrague

deberia estar flojo.

2. Suelte la empufiadura del embrague. El cable deberia estar recto.

Asegt]rese de que puede presionar completamente la empufiadura

de control de la barrena contra la manija izquierda.

3. Si es necesario realizar ajustes, afloje la contratuerca hexagonal y

enrosque el cable (para que no este tan tirante) o desenr6squelo

(para que este mas flojo). Vea la Figura 5.

4. Vuelva a controlar el ajuste. Ajuste la contratuerca contra el cable

cuando alcance el ajuste correcto.

Embrague de la transmisibn &

Palanca de cambios

1. Incline la m_.quina quitanieve hacia adelante de manera que quede

apoyada sobre la caja de la barrena.

2. Mueva la palanca de cambios hacia adelante a la posici6n seis (6).

3. Cuando suelte la palanca de control de la transmisi6n, gire a mano

las ruedas de la maquina quitanieve. Si bien las ruedas girard.n, es

posible que note cierta resistencia.

4. Engrane la empufladura del embrague de transmisi6n. Las ruedas

deberian dejar de girar.

5. Ahora suelte la empufladura del embrague de transmisi6n y haga

girar las ruedas de nuevo.

6. Mueva la palanca de cambios hacia atras en posici6n retroceso

r_.pido y luego mu_vala totalmente hacia adelante. No deberia

haber resistencia en la palanca de cambios y las ruedas deberfan

girar.

7. Si encuentra alguna resistencia cuando mueva la palanca de

cambios o si las ruedas se detienen cuando no deberian, afloje la

tuerca de seguridad en el cable de transmisi6n y desenrosque una

vuelta de cable.

8. Si at_npuede mover las ruedas cuando engrane la empufiadura del

embrague de la transmisi6n, afloje la tuerca de seguridad en el

cable de transmisi6n y enrosque una vuelta de cable. Vuelva a

controlar el ajuste y repita el procedimiento si es necesario.

9. Ajuste la contratuerca para asegurar el cable una vez alcanzado el

ajuste correcto.

NOTA: Para obtener mas detalles, remftase a la

seccion Ajustes en la pagina 52.

Zapata antideslizante

Ubique la placa de raspado y las zapatas antideslizantes en

Figura 7 la p&gina 43. Es posible ajustar el espacio existente

entre esta placa de raspado y el suelo. Si desea quitar nieve al

ras del suelo, coloque las zapatas antideslizantes en la posici6n

baja. Use las posiciones media o alta cuando la superficie que

desea limpiar sea despareja.

PRECAUCION: No se recomienda que opere esta

maquina quitanieve sobre gravas, ya que es posible

que la maquina quitanieve tome las gravas sueltas y la

barrena las expulse, Io cual podrfa causar lesiones

personales o daSar la maquina quitanieve.

Si per algOn motivo tiene que usar la m_.quina quitanieve sobre grava,

mantenga la zapata antideslizante en la posici6n ma.selevada para

Iograr una separaci6n maxima entre el suelo y la placa de raspado.

1. Para ajustar las zapatas antideslizantes afloje las cuatro tuercas

hexagonales y los pernos de carro y mueva las zapatas

Presion de los neum iticos

Los neuma.ticos tienen un exceso de aire para el

embarque. Controle que la presi6n de los neum_.ticos

se ubique entre 15-20 psi. Mantenga la misma presi6n

en ambos neum_.ticos.

NOTA: Si ambos neumaticos no fienen la misma

presidn, es posible que la unidad se incline hacia un

lado u otro, por Io que la placa de raspado no estara

nivelada con respecto al piso.

IMPORTANTE: Esta unidad se envia con aceite en el

motor pero sin gasolina. Despues del ensamblaje,

consulte la seccidn de OPERACION de este manual

para la seleccidn y el Ilenado de combustible.

Control del canal

La palanca de control del canal puede necesitar que lubricaci6n para

reducir su perfodo de entrada Como lubricante puede usar aceite

vegetal, vaselina o aceite de motor.

Lea este manual del propietario y las reglas de seguridad antes de poner en funcionamiento su m_tquina quitanieve. Compare las

Traba del control de transmisi6n /barrena

El control detransmisi6n est,. ubicado en la manija derecha. Presione el

control de la transmisi6n para engranar la transmisi6n de las ruedas.

Sueltela para que se detenga.

Esta misma palanca tambien traba el control de la barrena de manera

que puede operar la manivela del canal sin interrumpir el proceso de

liberaci6n de nieve. Si el control de la barrena se engrana

simult_.neamente con el control de transmisi6n, el operador puede soltar

el control de la barrena (en la manija izquierda) y las barrenas

continuaran engranadas. Suelte el control de transmisi6n para detener

las barrenas y la transmisi6n de las ruedas (tambien es necesario soltar

el control de la barrena).

IMPORTANTE: Suelte siempre el control de

transmisi6n antes de cambiar las velocidades.

Control de la barrena

El control de la barrena est,. ubicado en la manija

izquierda. Presione el control de la barrena para

engranar las barrenas. Sueltelo para detener la

acci6n de liberaci6n de nieve. Tambien debe soltar el

control de transmisi6n para detener la barrena.

Llave de encendido

La Ilave de encendido debe estar completamente introducida en el

interruptor antes de arrancar la unidad. Retire la Ilave cuando no use la

maquina quitanieve. No intente girar la Ilave.

Canal de descarga

El angulo del canal de descarga controla la distancia a la cual se arroja

la nieve. Incline el canal de descarga hacia arriba si quiere que la nieve

sea arrojada a una distancia mayor; incline hacia abajo si quiere que la

descarga se realice a menor distancia.

Control del canal

Esta palanca de control de cuatro direcciones esta dise_ada para

controlar la direcci6n y la distancia de la descarga de nieve desde el

canal'. Oprima el bot6n de la perilla y gffela a izquierda o derecha para

hacer girar el canal en la direccidn hacia la que se descargara la nieve.

Incline la palanca hacia delante o hacia atras para ajustar la distancia a

la que se arrojara, la nieve.

Palanca de cambios

La palanca de cambios est,. ubicada en el centro _ 6

del panel de la manija y se utiliza para determinar 5

la velocidad de tierra y la direcci6n de

desplazamiento. Es posible moverla a ocho 4

posiciones diferentes. 3

IMPORTANTE: Suelte siempre el 2.-

control de la transmisi6n antes de I ,-

cambiar de velocidad.

Avance: La maquina quitanieve cuenta con seis

posiciones de avance (F), La posici6n uno (1) es la

mas baja y la posici6n seis (6) es la m_.sra.pida,

Retroceso: La ma.quina quitanieve cuenta con dos

velocidades de retroceso (R)--R1 es la mas lenta

de las dos.

El faro delantero estara, encendido siempre que el motor este en

march&

Herramienta de limpieza del canal

La herramienta de limpieza del canal se usa para liberar un canal de

descarga tapado. Consulte la pagina 47 para obtener instrucciones

acerca de como usarlo correctamente.

,_ ADVERTENCIA: Nunca use su mano para

liberar un canal de descarga tapado. Antes de

destaparlo, apague el motor y permanezca

detras de las manijas hasta que todas las

partes m6viles se hayan detenido.

Controles de direcci6n del

volante _<_J

Los controles de la direcci6n del volante

izquierdo y derecho se ubican en la parte inferior

de las manijas. Presione el control derecho para girar a la derecha;

presione el control izquierdo para girar a la izquierda.

NOTA: Opere la maquina quitanieve en espacios

abiertos hasta que se familiarice con estos controles.

Zapata antideslizante

La posici6n de la zapata antideslizante esta determinada por el astado

del suelo del cual debe quitarse la niave. A mayor nivel de nieve, menor

debera ser el nivel de la zapata antideslizante. Ajt_stela de acuerdo al

nivel.

Detencibn de la mziquina

quitanieve

1. Para detener las ruedas, suelte la palanca de control de la

transmisi6n de la m_.quina quitanieve.

2. Para detener la liberaci6n de nieve, suelte la palanca de transmisi6n de

la barren&

3. Para detener el motor, presione la palanca de control del

estrangulador a posici6n OFF (apagado) y tire hacia afuera la Ilave

de encendido. No gire la Ilave.

Antes de encender el motor

Llenado de aceite

El motor se envi6 sin aceite en el motor. Tambien se incluir_, una botella

de aceite en la caja. Controle el nivel de aceite antes de cada operaci6n

para asegurar de que haya aceite suficiente en el motor. Siga las

instrucciones en la p_.gina 49.

Llenado de gasolina

ADVERTENCIA: La gasolina es

inflamable; tenga precauci6n cuando la

manipule o la almacene.

ADVERTENCIA: No Ilene el tanque de

combustible mientras la maquina quitanieve

esta en marcha, cuando esta caliente o cuando

esta en un Area cerrada.

ADVERTENCIA: Evite que su maquina

quitanieve entre en contacto con llamas

abiertas o chispas y no fume mientras Ilena el

tanque de combustible.

PREOAUOION" Los combustibles con mezcla de

alcohol (llamados "gasohol") o los que utilizan

etanol o metanol atraen la humedad, Io cual podrfa

tener como resultado la separaci6n y la formaci6n

de acidos durante el almacenamiento. El gas

acidico puede da_ar el sistema de combustible de

un motor durante el almacenamiento. Para evitar

problemas de motor, es necesario vaciar el sistema

de combustible cuando se almacenara el equipo por

30 dfas o mas. Vacie el tanque de nafta, encienda el

motor y dejelo funcionar hasta que las Ifneas de

combustible y el carburador esten vacios. La

siguiente temporada use combustible fresco. Nunca

use productos de limpieza para el motor o el

carburador en el tanque de combustible ya que

esto provocara un da_o permanente.

Para encender el motor

ADVERTENCIA: AsegtJreseque ninguna

persona ademas del operador este detenida cerca

de la maquina quitanieve mientras arranca u opera

el motor. No opere esta ma.quinaquitanieve a

menos que el ensamblado del canal de descarga

haya sido correctamente instaladoy este

asegurado.

Arrancador el ctrico

Para ubicar todos los controles del motor en esta

secci6n, vea la secci6n de inserci6n en la Figura 7.

Antes de arrancar, asegQrese de que el motor tenga el

nivel de aceite suficiente. El motor de la m_.quina

quitanieve est,. equipado con un arrancador electrico y

un arrancador de retroceso de 120 voltios de CA El

arrancador electrico est,. equipado con un cable de

alimentaci6n y un enchufe de tres terminales y esta.

disefiado para operar con corriente domestica de 120

voltios CA. Siga cuidadosamente las instrucciones.

Arranque en frio

NOTA: Si la unidad muestra algdn signo de movimiento

(transmisidno barrenas) con las empuhaduras del embrague

desengranadas, apague el motor inmediatamente. Vuelvaa

ajustar la m#quina tal como se indica en la seccidn "Ajustes

finales" dentro de las instrucciones de ensamblaje.

_ADVERTENCIA: El arrancador electrico

debe estar correctamente conectado a tierra

en todo momento para evitar la posibilidad de

descargas electricas que pueden provocarles

lesiones al operador.

1. Determine si el cableado de su hogar es un sistema de tres cables

conectado a tierra. Consulte con un electricista matriculado si no

esta seguro.

_DVERTENCIA: si su sistema de cableado

domestico no es un sistema de tres cables con

conexi6n a tierra, no utilice este motor electrico

bajo ningQn tipo de condiciones.

• Si el sistema de cableado de su casa esta conectado a tierra pero

no existe un receptaculo de tres terminales disponible en el lugar

donde normalmente se usara, el arrancador de la maquina

quitanieve, debe indicarle a un electricista con experiencia que Io

instale.

• Cuando conecte el cable de alimentaci6n, siempre conecte el cable

al arrancador del motor primero, luego enchufe el otro extremo a un

receptaculo de tres terminales conectado a tierra.

• Cuando desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n, siempre desenchufe

en primer lugar el extremo del recept_.culo de tres terminales

conectado a tierra.

2. Conecte el cable de la bujfa a la misma.

3. Aseg_Jrese de que las palancas de transmisi6n de la barrena y de

control de la trasmisi6n esten en posici6n desengranada.

4. Mueva la palanca de control del estrangulador a la posici6n FAST

(ra.pido).

5. Coloque la Ilave de encendido dentro de la ranura. Asegurese de

que entre a presi6n en su lugar. Nogire la !lave.

6. Rote la perilla de obturaoi6n a posici6n FULL (maximo).

7. Presione el cebador tres veces.

8. Conecte el cable de alimentaci6n a la caja del interruptor del

motor.

9. Enchufe el otro extremo del cable de alimentaci6n en un

recepta.culo de CA con conexi6n a tierra de tres terminales de 120

voltios.

10. Mantenga presionado el bot6n del arrancador hasta que arranque

el motor. No intente arrancar el motor durante m_.sde 10segundos

por vez. Este arrancador electrico tiene protecci6n termica. Si se

produce un sobrecalentamiento, se detendra automaticamente y

podra ser reiniciado solo cuando se haya enfriado a una

temperatura segura (deber_. esperar de 5 a 10 minutos).

11. Cuando arranca el motor, suelte el bot6n del arrancador y rote

suavemente el obturador a posici6n OFF (apagado). Si el motor

falla, rote el obturador inmediatamente a posici6n FULL y luego

gradualmente a OFF.

12. Primero desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n del recepta.culo y

luego desconectelo de la caja del interruptor en el motor.

13. Deje que el motor se enfrfe por algunos minutos ya que el motor no

alcanzara la potencia total hasta Iograr la temperat.ura operativa.

Opere el motor con el estrangulador al ma.ximo (RAPIDO) cuando

este arrojando nieve.

Arranque en caliente

1. Si reinicia el motor en caliente, rote, el obturador a posici6n OFF

(APAGADO) en lugar de FULL (MAXlMO) y presione el bot6n del

arrancador.

Arrancador de retroceso

Asegerese que el motor tenga aceite suficiente y que

las palancas de transmisidn de la barrena y de control

de la transmisidn no esten presionadas.

Arranque en frio

1. Mueva el control del estrangulador a la posici6n FAST (ra.pido).

2. Presione la tecla en la ranura de encendido hasta que encaje a

presi6n en su lugar. No gire la Ilave.

3. Rote el control de obturaci6n a posici6n FULL del obturador.

4. Presione el bot6n del cebador mientras cubre el agujero de

ventilaci6n. Quite su dedo del cebador entre un cebado y otro. No

cebe el motor si la temperatura es superior a 50 o F; cebelo dos

veces si la temperatura se ubica entre 50o F y 15o F; y cebelo cuatro

veces siesta por debajo de 150 F.

5. Tire de la manija del arrancador rapidamente. No deje que la

manija se desenganche, pero permita que se enrosque lentamente

mientras mantiene firmemente la manija del arrancador.

6. Mientras el motor se calienta y comienza a funcionar de manera

pareja, rote la perilla del obturador lentamente hacia la posici6n

OFF. Si el motor falia, gire hacia posici6n FULL, luego mueva

lentamente hacia posici6n OFF.

7. Deje que el motor se enfrie por algunos minutos ya que el motor no

alcanzara la potencia total hasta Iograr la temperat.ura operativa.

8. Opere el motor con el estrangulador al maximo (RAPIDO) cuando

este arrojando nieve.

Arranque en caliente

1. Si vuelve a arrancar un motor caliente despues de un cierre

temporario, rote el obturador a posici6n OFF en lugar de FULL y

no Io cebe. Tire de la manija del arraneador como se explic6

anteriormente.

Arrancador de retroceso congelado

Si el arrancador est,. congelado y no enciende el motor, prooeda de la

siguiente manera:

1. Saque la mayor cantidad de cuerda posible del arrancador.

2. Suelte la manija del arrancador y deje que golpee contra el

arrancador.

3. Si contint_ateniendo problemas para arrancar el motor, repita los

dos primeros pasos. Si despues de intentos sucesivos no puede

liberar el arrancador, siga los procedimientos del arrancador

el_ctrico para arrancar.

4. Trate de evitar que el arrancador de retroceso se congele

siguiendo las instrucciones de la p_.gina47.

Antes de detener la mbquina

1. Deje encendido el motor durante algunos minutos para permitir

que se sequela humedad en el mismo.

2. Para evitar que se congele el arrancador siga estos pasos antes

de detener la maquina quitanieve:

Arrancador de retroceso

a. Con el motor en funcionamiento, tire con fuerza de la

soga del arrancador tres o cuatro veces de manera

continua y seguida.

Arrancador el_ctrico

b. Conecte el cable de alimentaci6n a la caja del

interruptor y luego al recept_.culo de 120 voltios CA.

c. Con el motor en marcha, presione el bot6n del

arrancador y deje girar el arrancador por varios

segundos.

d. Desconecte el cable de alimentaci6n primero del

recept_.culo y despues de la m_.quina quitanieve.

NOTA: El ruido inusual producto de tirar de la cuerda

de arranque, si se trata del arrancador de retroceso, o

el que realiza el arrancador al girar, si se trata del

arrancador electrico, no da#a al motor.

Procedimiento para detener la

m quina quitanieve

1. Para detener las ruedas, suelte la palanca de control de la

transmisi6n de la m_.quina quitanieve.

2. Para dejar de quitar la nieve, suelte la palanca de transmisi6n de la

barrena.

3. Para detener el motor presione la palanca de control del

estrangulador hasta la posici6n OFF (apagado) y saque la Ilave. No

gire la !lave.

Procedimiento para engranar la

transmisi6n

1. Con el motor en marcha y cerca de la velocidad maxima, mueva la

palanca de cambios a una de las seis posiciones ADELANTE o a

las dos posioiones de REVERSA. Seleccione la velocidad

adecuada para el estado de la nieve existente. Use las velocidades

mas lentas hasta haberse familiarizado con el proceso.

2. Para mover la maquina quitanieve apriete la empu_adura del

embrague de la transmisi6n contra la manija dereoha, y la maquina

quitanieve se mover&. Sueltela y se detiene la transmisi6n de

movimiento.

Procedimiento para engranar

las barrenas

1. Para engranar las barrenas y comenzar a quitar la nieve, apriete la

empuSadura del embrague de la barrena izquierda contra la manija

izquierda. Sueltela para detener las barrenas.

2. Para mover la mAquina, con el control de la barrena engranado,

apriete el control de la transmisi6n y sueltelo para detenerla.

Nocambie las velocidades mientras la transmisi6n est,.

engranada.

NOTA: Esta misma palanca tambien ajusta el control

de la barrena de manera que puede girar la manivela

del canal sin interrumpir el proceso de quitado de la

nieve.

3. Suelte el control de la barrena: el mecanismo de bloqueo debe

mantener engranado el control de la barrena hasta que se suelte el

control de la transmisi6n.

4. Suelte el control de la transmisi6n para detener tanto las barrenas

como la transmisi6n de las ruedas. Para detener la barrena debe

soltar ambas palancas.

Procedimiento para quitar la nieve

PRECAUClON: Revise la zona que desea limpiar para

detectar la presencia de objetos extra_os. Si los

hubiera debe eliminarlos.

1. Enciendael motorsiguiendolas instruccionesdeencendido.

2. Muevael controldel canalparagirarel canaldedescargaa la

posioi6ndeseada(lejos detransetJntesy/o edificios).

3. SeleccionelavelocidadsegOnel estadodela nieve.

PREOAUOION" No mueva nunca la palanca de

cambios sin soltar primero el embrague de la

transmisi6n.

4. Engrane el control de las barrenas y las palancas de control de la

transmisi6n siguiendo las instrucciones anteriores.

5. La funci6n de bloqueo le permite quitar la mano izquierda de la

palanca de control de la barrena.

6. Mientras limpia el primer paso a traves de la nieve, controle la

velocidad de la maquina quitanieve segOn la profundidad y el

estado de la nieve.

7. Para hacer girar la unidad a izquierda o derecha, apriete el control

respectivo de direcci6n de las ruedas. Vea la Figura 7.

8. Con las pasadas sucesivas reajuste el canal en la posici6n

deseada y traslape levemente la pasada anterior.

9. Despues de limpiar la zona detenga la m_.quina quitanieve

siguiendo las instrucciones que aparecen a continuaci6n.

Consejos de operacibn

NOTA: Deje que el motor se caliente unos minutos ya

que el mismo no desarrolla la potencia maxima hasta

que alcanza la temperatura de funcionamiento.

_ADVERTENCIA: La temperatura del

silenciador y de las Areas que Io rodean puede

superar los 150° F (66 ° C). Evite dichas Areas.

• Para que el quitado de la nieve sea m_.seficiente debe hacerlo

inmediatamente despues de la caida de la misma.

• En Io posible, descargue la nieve en direcciAn al viento. Traslape

levemente las pasadas anteriores.

• Configure las zapatas antideslizantes 1/4" por debajo de la barra

de raspado para un uso normal. Las zapatas antideslizantes se

pueden ajustar hacia arriba cuando la nieve este muy compactada.

NOTA: Se recomienda evitar el uso de la presente

maquina quitanieve sobre grava ya que puede levantar

facilmente la grava suelta y arrojarla por la barrena con

Io que podrfa causar lesiones o da#os a la maquina.

• Si per algOn motivo tiene que usar la m_.quina quitanieve sobre

grava, mantenga la zapata antideslizante en la posici6n ma.s

elevada para Iograr una separaciAn maxima entre el suelo y la

placa de raspado.

• Limpie cuidadosamente la maquina quitanieve despues de cada

USO.

Herramienta de limpieza del canal

La herramienta de limpieza del canal esta ajustada convenientemente a

la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena con un pasador de

ensamblado. No use nunca las manos para limpiar un canal tapado.

1. Suelte tanto la palanca de control de la barrena come la palanca

de bloqueo del control de transmision/barrena.

2. Para detener el motor saque la Ilave de encendido.

3. Saque la herramienta de limpieza del pasador que la ajusta a la

parte posterior de la caja de la barrena. Yea la Figura 8.

4. Use el extremo con forma de pala de la herramienta de limpieza

para eliminar la nieve y el hielo existentes en el canal de descarga.

5. Vuelva a ajustar la herramienta de limpieza al pasador de

ensamblado ubicado en la parte posterior de la caja de la barrena y

vuelva a encender el motor.

6. Parado en la posiciAn del operador (detras de la maquina

quitanieve), engrane la palanca del embrague de la barrena

durante unos segundos para eliminar la nieve o el hielo que hayan

quedado en el canal de descarga antes de continuar quitando la

nieve.

Recomendaciones generales

• Respete siempre las reglas de seguridad cuando realice tareas de

mantenimiento.

• La garantia de esta mb.quinaquitanieve no cubre elementos que

han estado sujetos al real use o negligencia del operador. Para

recibir el reembolso total de la garanfia, el operador deber_, dar

mantenimiento a la maquina quitanieve come se indica en este

manual.

• Siga el cronograma de mantenimiento que se presenta a

continuaci6n.

• Algunos ajustes deben ser realizados peri6dicamente para el

mantenimiento adecuado de la unidad.

• Revise peri6dicamente todos los sujetadores y compruebe que

esten bien ajustados.

Eje hexagonal: Una vez per temporada, lubrique el eje hexagonal

con un aceite penetrante, pero no engrase.

Caja de engranajes:La caja de engranaje se lubrica con grasa en

la f_.brica y no requiere una lubricaci6n regular. Sin embargo, si se

la desmonta per algt_n motive, lubrfquela con 2 enzas de grasa

Shell Alvania TM (pieza mimero 737-0168). Antes de reensamblarla

elimine el sellador vieje y aplique une nuevo.

IMPORTANTE: No Ilene en exceso la caja de

engranajes ya que se podria da5ar la junta hermetica.

Compruebe que no haya grasa en el tap6n de cierre de

la tuberia de ventilaci6n a fin de liberar presi6n.

• Ruedas: Una vez per temporada, retire el perno de cada rueda y

saque la rueda del eje. Aplique grasa autometor multiuso en el eje

antes de volver a colocar las ruedas.

• Varilla de cambio: Use una grasa o aceite liviano para lubricar las

partes rotatorias de la varilla de cambio tras 25 horas de operaci6n.

• Puntos de junta:Lubrique los puntos de junta de la m_.quina

quitanieve con aceite liviano una vez per temporada. Si la unidad

esta.equipada con accesorios de engrasado, utilice una pistola de

grasa para engrasarlos.

Traba del control de transmision /barrena:La leva de los

extremes de las varillas de control que bloquean los embragues de

la transmisi6n y de la barrena se debe lubricar per Io menos una

Compruebe las correas en V

Siga las instrucciones a continuaci6n para verificar el estado de

las correas de transmisi6n cada 50 horas de funcionamiento.

1. Saque la cubierta pl_.stica de la correa ubicada en el frente del

motor. Para ello saque los dos tornillos autorroscantes.

2. Compruebe visualmente la existencia de correas raidas,

agrietadas o excesivamente gastadas. En case de ser necesario,

reemplacelo segt]n las instrucciones de la pagina 50.

Compruebe la rueda de friccibn

Siga las instrucciones a continuaci6n para verificar el estado de la rueda

de fricci6n cada 50 horas de funcionamiento.

1. Saque los dostornillos autorroscantes de la cubierta del marco

ubicada debajo de la m_.quina quitanieve. Censulte la Figura 14.

2. Compruebe visualmente el caucho de la rueda de fricci6n para

detectar la existencia de desgaste excesivo, grietas o piezas

sueltas en el buje de transmisi6n de la rueda de fricci6n.

3. Engrane tambien el control de transmisi6n y compruebe si la rueda

de fricci6n hace contacto con la placa de transmisi6n. Si no hace

contacto, ajuste el cable de la transmisi6n y vuelva a verificar la

rueda de fricci6n.

De ser necesario reemplace la goma de la rueda de fricci6n. Siga

las instrucciones en la pa.gina 51.

Vuelva a colocar la cubierta del marco a la maquina quitanieve y

vuelva a ubicar el equipo en posici6n de eperaci6n.

Verificacibn del nivel de aceite

• Consulte el manual del motor que se incluye para conocer todos

los detalles sobre mantenimiento del mismo. Aqui se incluyen

algunos puntos esenciales para el buen funcionamiento de la

m_.quina quitanieve.

Antes de operar la maquina quitanieve, controle el nivel de aceite

mediante los siguientes pasos.

NOTA: Aunque los aceites de viscosidad m_ltiple

(5W30, 10W30 etc,) mejoran el encendido cuando el

clima esta fr/o, los mismos incrementan el consume de

aceite cuando se usan a mas de 32°F (0° C).

Compruebe el nivel de aceite de la maquina quitanieve

con mayor frecuencia para evitar que el motor trabaje

con un nivel de aceite bajo,

1. Cen el motor ubicado en suelo parejo, el aceite debe estar en la

marca FULL (lleno) de la varilla del nivel de aceite. Vea la Figura 10

2. Detenga el motor y espere varies minutes antes de verificar el nivel

de aceite. Saque el tap6n de carga de aceite y la varilla del nivel de

aceite.

3. Limpie la varilla del nivel de aceite e ins@tela en el orificio de carga

de aceite y ajt_stela bien.

4. Saque la varilla del nivel de aceite y contr61ela. Si el aceite no Ilega

hasta la marca FULL (llene) de la varilla del nivel de aceite,

agregue aceite.

5. Censulte el manual del motor para conocer los detalles sebre

grade de aceite y procedimiento de cambio del mismo.

Revise los cables del canal

Una vez per temporada o cada 25 horas de operaci6n, Io que suceda

antes, revise si los cables del canal se han aflojado. En case de ser

necesario, ajuste segt]n las instrucciones de la pagina 53.

_ll DVERTENClA: Detenga siempre el

motor, desconecte el cable de la bujfa y

p6ngalo separado de la misma antes de

realizar todo tipo de ajustes o reparaciones.

•Todos los ajustes de la secci6n de Servicio y ajustes del presente

manual deben set verificados por Io menos una vez todas las

temporadas.

Servicio de la barrena

Las barrenas esta.najustadas al eje espiral con dos pernos de cuchilla y

tuercas hexagonales de seguridad. Vea la Figura 11. Si golpea un

objeto extrafio o una barra de hielo, la maquina quitanieve esta disefiada

de manera que los pernos se cortan.

1. Si las barrenas no giran, verifique si los pasadores se cortaron.

2. De ser necesario reemplace los pasadores. Junto con la maquina

quitanieve se incluyen pasadores de cuchilla y pasadores de

chaveta de repuesto. Rocie un lubricante de aceite dentro del eje

antes de colocar los pasadores nuevos y asegurarlos con los

nuevos pasadores de chaveta. Vea la Figura 11.

Placa de raspado y zapatas

antideslizantes

La placa de raspado y las zapatas antideslizantes ubicadas en la base

de la maquina quitanieve est_.nsujetas a desgaste. Contr61elos

peri6dicamente y reempla.celos de ser necesario.

Cambio de la zapata antideslizante

1. Saque los cuatro pernos de carro y las dos tuercas hexagonales

que ajustan las zapatas antideslizantes a los dos costados de la

maquina quitanieve. Vea la Figura 11.

2. Vuelva a ensamblar las nuevas zapatas antideslizantes con el

mismo material. Compruebe que las zapatas antideslizantes estan

ajustadas para que queden parejas.

Reemplazo de la placa de raspado

1. Tras retirar ambas zapatas antideslizantes, quite los cuatro pemos

del carro y las tuercas hexagonales que unen la placa de raspado a

la caja de la ma.quina quitanieve. Vea la Figura 12.

2. Vuelva a ensamblar la placa de raspado nueva, asegura.ndose de

que las tapas de los pernos de carro se encuentren del lado interior

Reemplazo de las correas

Compruebe el estado de la correa de la barrena y de la correa de

transmisi6n cada 25 horas de operaci6n de la m_.quina quitanieve.

Cambie si alguna muestra signos de desgaste o rotura.

1. Retire la cubierta de la correa quitando los dos tornillos

autorroscantes que la sujetan a la caja de la m_.quina quitanieve.

2. Saque de la polea la correa de la barrena, tal y come se muestra en

la Figura 13B.

6. Enrosque la correa de la barrena alrededor de la polea de la

barrena. Vea la Figura 15.

7. Vuelva a insertar el tornillo con reborde en la mensula de montaje y

ajuste para asegurarlo.

8. Enrosque la correa de la barrena bajo la polea Ioca. Vuelva a

instalar el resorte del perno donde estaba situado anteriormente.

9. Vuelva a colocar la tapa del marco y baje la maquina quitanieve de

vuelta a posici6n de operaci6n.

10. Enrosque la correa de la barrena alrededor de la polea del motor.

11. Vuelva a instalar la cubierta de la correa con los tornillos

autorroscantes que quit6 anteriormente.

Correa de transmisi6n

3. *Empuje la polea Ioca en direcci6n contraria al reloj e inserte un

destornillador con cabeza Philips en el orificio de la misma, tal y

como se muestra en la Figura 16. Esto liberara la tensi6n de la

correa de transmisi6n.

manera que quede apoyada sobre la caja. Saque los dos tomillos

autorroscantes de la tapa del marco ubicada debajo de la maquina

Eche hacia atra.s el perno de parada para crear el hueco suficiente

entre el disco de la rueda de fricci6n y la polea de transmisi6n.

Estire de la correa de transmisi6n de alrededor de la polea de

7. Ahora, deslice la correa fuera del cigQe_al moviendo el otro lado de

la maquina quitanieve de nuevo.

8. Cambie por una nueva correa, desliz_.ndola primero a traves del

cigQe_al, y despues alrededor de la ranura de la polea de

transmisi6n, enrrolla.ndola por Oltimo alrededor de la correa del

motor, de donde se retir6 la correa vieja. Cuando la correa este

firmemente situada en las poleas, asegt_rese de quitar el

destornillador de la polea Ioca.

9. Vuelva a instalar la correa de la barrena en la polea del motor.

10. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta del marco en la caja de la ma.quina

quitanieve y vuelva a situar el equipo en posici6n de operaci6n.

Vuelva a instalar la cubierta de la correa con los dos tornillos

autorroscantes que quit6 anteriormente.

Goma de la rueda de friccibn

1. Controle la goma de la rueda de fricci6n cada 25 horas de

funcionamiento y a partir de ahi de manera peri6dica. Reemplace

la goma si detecta la presencia de signos de desgaste o grietas.

2. Drene la gasolina de la ma.quina quitanieve o coloque un trozo de

pla.stico debajo del tap6n de Ilenado del combustible. Mueva la

palanca de cambios a la posici6n R2.

3. Incline la ma.quina quitanieve de manera que quede apoyada sobre

la caja. Saque los dos tornillos autorroscantes de la cubierta del

marco ubicada debajo de la m_.quina quitanieve.

4. Saque el perne que sujeta la rueda derecha y saque la rueda del

eje.

5. Saque los cuatre tornillos que ajustan la cubierta de la transmisi6n

derecha al marco. Saque la cubierta de la transmisi6n del costado

del marco. Vea la Figura 18.

hexagonal.

Alinee el eje hexagonal con el cojinete izquierdo y guie

cuidadosamente este cojinete hacia el interior del costado

izquierdo de la caja.

Instale el cojinete derecho en el eje hexagonal y verifique que el

separador y el cojinete de la cubierta de transmisi6n estan

alineados con el eje orientable. Vea la Figura 21.

15. Vuelva a ensamblar la cubierta de latransmisi6n con los cuatro

tornillos que retir6 enel paso 6. Instale la rueda derecha con el

perno que retiro anteriormente.

16. Vuelva a ensamblar la tapa del marco con los dos tornillos

autorroscantes. Baje el equipo de vuelta a posici6n de

operacion yvuelva a colocar la cubierta de la correa.

NOTA: Si colocd plastico debajo del tapon de Ilenado

del combustible asegdrese de sacarlo.

7. Levante el ensamblado de la rueda de fricci6n hacia fuera entre los

ensamblades del semieje y del eje de transmisi6n.

8. Saque los cuatro tornillos del montaje de la rueda de fricci6n.

Saque la goma de la rueda de fricci6n de entre la placa de la rueda 41L

de fricci6n. Vea la Figura 20.

9. Vuelvaa ensamblarlagomanuevadela ruedade fricci6n al

IMPORTANTE: Ensamble la goma de la rueda de

fricci6n de la misma manera para que funcione

adecuadamente.

Ajustes

ADVERTENCIA: si se realizan ajustes al

motor mientras el mismo esta en marcha (per

ejemplo, alcarburador), al_jese de todas las piezas

m6viles.Tenga cuidado con las superficies

calientes y con el silenciador.

ADVERTENCIA: No intente nunca limpiar

el canal o realizar ajustes mientras el motor

est.. en funcionamiento.

Varilla de cambio

Para ajustar la varilla de cambio proceda de la siguiente

rnanera:

1. Coloque la palanca de cambios en la sexta (6) posici6n o en la

velocidad mas rapida hacia adelante. Vea la Figura 22A.

2. Saque el broche de horquilla de la manija de cambio ubicada

debajo del panel de la manija. Vea la Figura 22B.

3. Empuje el ensamblado del brazo de desplazamiento hacia

abajo Io mas lejos posible. Vea Figura 22C.

Gire la ferula hacia arriba o hacia abajo en la varilla de cambio

segL)n sea necesario hasta que la ferula quede alineada con el

orificio superior de la palanca de cambios. Vea la Figura 22B.

Inserte la ferula desde el costado derecho de la maquina

quitanieve hacia el interior del orificio superior de la palanca de

cambios. Vea la Figura 22B.

Vuelva a instalar el broche de horquilla.

Antes de poner en funcionamiento la maquina quitanieve

verifique que los ajustes sean correctos.

Control del canal

Una vez por temporada o cada 25 horas de operaci6n, Io que suceda

antes, revise si los cables del controlTM del canal de cuatro direcciones

se han aflojado. Si el canal no gira completamente, o si no puede

ajustarse la inclinaci6n arriba o abajo, ajuste los cables de control del

canal que se muestran en 2..

Para ajustar dichos cables, proceda de la siguiente manera:

1. Para apretar los cables, afloje la tuerca superior y apriete la tuerca

inferior del cable.

2. Ajuste por igual en ambos ladostrabajando en ambos cables. Vea

Embrague de la transmisibn

Consulte la secci6n Ajustes finales de las

instrucciones de Ensamblado para ajustar el

embrague de la transmisidn. Para controlar los ajustes

proceda de la siguiente manera:

1. Con la ma.quina quitanieve inclinada hacia delante (asegt]rese de

vaciar la gasolina o de colocar una pelicula pl_.stica debajo del

tap6n de Ilenado del combustible si la maquina ya ha sido puesta

en funcionamiento), saque la cubierta del marco ubicada bajo la

maquina quitanieve, para Io cual debe sacar dos tornillos

autorroscantes.

2. Habiendo soltado el embrague de latransmisi6n, debe existir una

separaci6n de 1/8 pulg. (3,175 mm.) entre la rueda de fricci6n y la

placa de transmisi6n en todas las posiciones de la palanca de

cambios.

3. Habiendo engranado el embrague de latransmisi6n, la rueda de

fricci6n debe hacer contacto con la placa de transmisi6n.

4. Si es necesario realizar ajustes, afloje la contratuerca del cable de

la transmisi6n y enrosque el cable hacia dentro o hacia afuera

segQn sea necesario. Ajuste la contratuerca para asegurar el cable

una vez alcanzado el ajuste correcto.

5. Vuelva a ensamblar la tapa del marco y regrese la unidad a su

posici6n de operaci6n.

NOTA: Si colocd plastico debajo del tapon de Ilenado

del combustible asegdrese de sacarlo ahora.

Embrague de la barrena

Para ajustar el embrague de la barrena, consulte la

p_.gina 41.

Si su maquina quitanieve no se va a utilizar durante 30 dias o mas, tiene

que prepararla para el almacenamiento. Asimismo, al final de la

temporada de nieve debe seguir el mismo grupo de instrucciones y

almacenar la maquina quitanieve adecuadamente para el periodo de

fuera de temporada. Un almacenamiento adecuado asegura una vida

t_til m_.sprolongada para la ma.quina quitanieve.

Preparacion para el almacenamiento

ADVERTENCIA: Nunca almacene la

maquina quitanieve, cuando aQn tiene

combustible en el tanque, en un espacio

cerrado o en areas con poca ventilaci6n donde

los gases del combustible puedan alcanzar el

fuego, chispas o una luz piloto como la que

tienen algunos hornos, calentadores de agua,

secadores de ropa o algQn otro dispositivo a

gas.

ADVERTENCIA: Drene el combustible dentro

de un recipiente aprobado en un lugar exterior,

lejos de todo tipo de fuego. Compruebe que el

motor este frio. No fume.

ADVERTENCIA: No drene el carburador si

est.. utilizando un estabilizador de

combustible. En el dep6sito de combustible no

use nunca productos de limpieza para motores

o carburadores o podria producir da5os

permanentes.

Es importante evitar que durante el almacenamiento se formen

dep6sitos de goma en las piezas esenciales del sistema de

combustible del motor como, por ejemplo, en el carburador, el

filtro de combustible, la manguera de combustible o el dep6sito.

El combustible que se deje en el motor se deteriora

cuando el clima es c_.lido y causa graves problemas de

encendido. Para evitar estos problemas, el sistema del

combustibledebe ser vaciadoantes de almacenar la

mb.quina durante 30 dias o mb.s.

NOTA: La experiencia indica tambien que los

combustibles con mezcla de alcohol (que se Ilaman

gasohol o que utilizan etanol o metanol) pueden atraer

la humedad, la cual conduce a la separacidn y

formacidn de acidos durante el almacenamiento. El gas

acfdico puede da_ar el sistema del combustible de un

motor durante el almacenamiento del mismo.

1. Saquetoda la gasolina del carburador y del dep6sito de

combustible para evitar la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en el

motor.

2. Ponga el motor en marcha hasta vaciar el dep6sito de combustible

y hasta que el motor se detenga debido a la falta de combustible.

3. Retire la bujia y vierta (1) enza de aceite para motor a traves del

orificio de la bujia y hacia el interior del cilindro. Celoque un trapo

sobre el erificio. Arranque con manivela el motor varias veces para

distribuir el aceite. Reemplace la bujia.

NOTA: Siga el manual del motor para conocer mas

preparativos para almacenamiento del motor de la

maquina quitanieve.

4. Cuando almacene la maquina quitanieve en un galp6n de dep6sito

metalico o con poca ventilaci6n, realice un tratamiento anti-

oxidante al equipo. Use aceite ligero o silic6n para recubrir el

equipo, especialmente las cadenas, los resortes, los cojinetes y los

cables.

5. Elimine todo el polvo del exterior del motor y del equipo.

6. Siga las recomendaciones de lubricaci6n en la pagina 48.

7. Almacene la m_.quina quitanieve en un Area despejada y seca.

Problema Causa Remedio

correctamente.

1. La unidad est,. funcionando en la posici6n CHOKE

(obturaci6n).

2. La Ifnea del combustible esta tapada o el mismo es

viejo.

Agua o suciedad en el sistema del combustible.

1. Llene eltanque con gasolina limpia.

2. Limpie la linea del combustible.

3. Ponga el interruptor en la posici6n ON

(encendido)

4. Umpiela, ajuste la distancia disruptiva o

@.mbiela.

5. Inserte la Ilave totalmente dentro del interruptor.

6. Conecte el cable de la bujfa.

7. Comunfquese con el centro de servicio Sears.

1. Cambie la palanca de obturacion a la posici6n

OFF (apagado).

2. Limpie la linea de combustible y Ilene el tanque

con gasolina limpia y fresca.

3. Drene el deposito de combustible y el

carburador. Vuelva a Ilenarlo con combustible

limpio.

Comunfquese con el centro de servicio Sears.

Es necesario ajustar el carburador. 4.

Perdida de potencia. El cable de la bujfa esta flojo. 1. Conecte y ajuste el cable de la bujfa.
