TWO YEARS ON TRACTOR

When operated and maintained according to all supplied instructions, if this tractor fails

due to a defect in material or workmanship within two years from the date or purchase,

call 1-800-4-MY-HOME® to arrange for free repair_

During the first year of purchase, there will be no charge for warranty service in your home.

For your convenience, in-home warranty service will still be available after the first year

of purchase, but a trip charge will apply. This charge will be waived if you transport the

tractor to an authorized Craftsman drop-off location. For the nearest authorized location,

call 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.

90 DAYS ON BATTERY

For ninety (90) days from date of purchase, if the batten/ included with this tractor is

defective in material or workmanship (our testing proves it wilt not hold a charge), it will be

replaced free of charge in your home.

This warranty covers ONLY defects in material and workmanship. Sears will NOT pay for:

• Expendable items that become worn during normal use, including but not limited to

blades, spark plugs, air cleaners, belts, and oil filters.

• Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, or tune-ups.

• Tire replacement or repair caused by punctures from outside objects, such as nails,

thorns, stumps, or glass.

• Tire or wheel replacement or repair resulting from normal wear, accident, or improper

operation or maintenance.

- Repairs necessary because of operator abuse, including but not limited to damage

caused by towing objects beyond the capability of the tractor, impacting objects that

bend the frame or crankshaft, or over-speeding the engine.

• Repairs necessary because of operator negligence, including but not timited to, electrical

and mechanical damage caused by improper storage, failure to use the proper grade

and amount of engine oil, failure to keep the deck clear of flammable debris, or failure

to maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in the operator's

manual.

• Engine (fuelsystem) cleaning or repairs caused by fuel determined to be contaminated or

oxidized (stale)° In general, fuel should be used within 30 days of its purchase date.

• Normal deterioration and wear of the exterior finishes, or product label replacement.

All tractor and battery warranty coverage is void if this product is ever used for

commercial or rental purposes.

This warranty applies only while this product is within the United States.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which

vary from state to state.

_DANGER: This cutting machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and

throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety instructions could result

in serious injury or death.

_WARNING: In order to prevent acciden-

tal starting when setting up, transporting,

adjusting or making repairs, always discon-

nect spark plug wire and place wire where

it cannot contact spark plugo

_t_WARNING: Do not coast down a hill in

neutral, you may lose control of the tractor°

_WARNING: Tow only the attachments

that are recommended by and comply with

specifications of the manufacturer of your

tractor. Use common sense when towing.

Operate only at the lowest possible speed

when on a slope. Too heavy of a load, while

on a slope, is dangerous. Tires can lose

traction with the ground and cause you to

lose control of your tractor.

_WARNING: Engine exhaust, some of its

constituents, and certain vehicle components

contain or emit chemicals known to the State

of Californiato cause cancer and birth defects

or other reproductive harm.

_WARNING: Battery posts, terminals and

related accessories contain lead and lead

compounds, chemicals known to the State of

California to cause cancer and birth defects

or other reproductive harm. Wash hands

after handling.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow altinstruc-

tions on the machine and in the manual

before starting.

°Do not put hands or feet near rotating

parts or under the machine. Keep clear

of the discharge opening at all times.

, Only allow responsible adults, who are

familiar with the instructions, to operate

the machine.

•Clear the area of objects such as rocks,

toys, wire, etc., which could be picked

up and thrown by the blades°

• Be sure the area is clear of bystanders

before operating, Stop machine if anyone

enters the area,

• Never carry passengers°

. Do not mow in reverse unless absolutely

necessary, Always look down and behind

before and while backing.

oNever direct discharged materialtoward

anyone. Avoid discharging material

against a wall or obstruction. Material

may ricochet back toward the operator.

Stop the blades when crossing gravel

surfaces.

•Do notoperatemachinewithouttheentire

grass catcher, discharge guard, or other

safety devices in place and working

• Slow down before turning°

• Never leave a running machine unat-

tended° Always turn off blades, set

parking brake, stop engine, and remove

keys before dismounting°

• Disengage blades when not mowing_

Shut off engine and wait for all parts to

come to a complete stop before cleaning

the machine, removing the grass catcher,

or unclogging the discharge guard.

•Operate machine only indaylight or good

artificial light.

.Do not operate the machine while under

the influence of alcohol or drugs.

o Watch for traffic when operating near or

crossing roadways.

• Use extracarewhen loading or unloading

the machine into a trailer or truck.

•AIways wear eye protection when operat-

ing machine°

• Data indicates that operators, age 60

years and above, are involved in a large

percentage of riding mower-related inju-

ries. These operators should evaluate

their ability to operate the riding mower

safely enough to protect themselves and

others from serious injury°

• Follow the manufacturer's recommen-

dation for wheel weights or counter-

weights.

• Keep machine free of grass , leaves

or other debris build-up which can

touch hot exhaust / engine parts and

burn. Do not allow the mower to plow

leaves or other debris which can cause

build-up to occur. Clean any oil or fuel

spillage before operating or storing the

machine. Allow machine to cool before

storage.

II. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to loss of

control and tip-over accidents, which can

result in severe injury or death. Operation

on all slopes requires extra caution° If you

can not back up the slope or if you feel uneasy

on it, do not mow it.

• Mow up and down slopes, not across.

- Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or

other hidden objects. Uneven terrain

could overturn the machine. Tall grass

can hide obstacles.

• Choose a low ground speed so that you

will not have to stop or shift while on the

s!ope_

• Do not mow on wetgrass. Tires may lose

traction°

Always keep the machine in gear when

going down slopes. Do not shiffto neutral

and coast downhill.

, Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a

slope. Ifthetires losetraction, disengage

the blades and proceed slowly straight

down the sloper

• Keep all movement on the slopes slow

and gradual. Do not make sudden

changes in speed or direction, which

could cause the machine to roll over.

• Use extra care while operating machine

with grass catchers or other attachments;

they can affect the stability of the ma-

chine. Do no use on steep slopes.

° Do not try to stabilize the machine by

putting your foot on the ground.

• Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches, or

embankments. The machine could sud-

denly roll over if a wheel is over the edge

or if the edge caves in.

I!!, CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator

is not alert to the presence of children.

Children are often attracted to the machine

and the mowing activity.' Never assume

that children will remain where you last

saw them.

• Keep children out of the mowing area

and in the watchful care of a responsible

adult other than the operator:

• Be alert and turn machine off if a child

enters the area.

• Before and while backing, look behind

and down for small children.

* Never carry children, even with the

blades shut off. They may fall off and

be seriously injured or interfere with

safe machine operation. Children who

have been given rides in the past may

suddenly appear in the mowing area for

another ride and be run over or backed

over by the machine°

, Never allow children to operate the ma-

chine.

, Use extra care when approaching blind

corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects

that may block your view of a child.

IV. TOWING

•Tow only with a machine that has a hitch

designed for towing. Do not attach towed

equipment except at the hitch point°

•Followthemanufacturer'srecommenda-

tion for weight limits for towed equipment

and towing on slopes.

•Never allow children or others in or on

towed equipment.

, On slopes, theweight ofthe towed equip-

ment may cause loss oftraction and loss

of control.

, Travel slowly and allow extra distance to

stop.

V. SERVICE

SAFE HANDLING OF GASOLINE

To avoid personal injury or property dam-

age, use extreme care in handling gasoline.

Gasoline is extremely flammable and the

vapors are explosive.

, Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes,

and other sources of ignition.

• Use only approved gasoline container.

, Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to cool

before refueling_

•Never fue! the machine indoors°

• Never storethe machine or fuefcontainer

where there is an open flame, spark, or

pilot light such as on a water heater or

other appliances.

•Never fill containers inside a vehicle or

on a truck or trailer bed with plastic liner.

Always place containers on the ground

away from your vehicle when filling.

- Remove gas-powered equipment from

the truck or trailer and refuel it on the

ground. If this is not possible, then refuel

such equipment with a portable container,

rather than from a gasoline dispenser

nozzle.

° Keep the nozzle in contact with the rim

of the fuel tank or container opening at

all times until fueling is complete. Do not

use a nozzle lock-open device.

• lffuelis spilled on clothing, change cloth-

ing immediately.

o Never overfill fuel tank. Replace gas cap

and tighten securely.

GENERAL SERVICE

• Never operate machine in a closed area.

•Keep all nuts and boltstightto be sure the

equipment is in safe working condition.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debris build-up_ Clean oil or fuel

spillage and remove any fuel-soaked de-

bris. Allow machine to cool before storing,

• If you strike a foreign object, stop and

before restarting.

• Never make any adjustments or repairs

with the engine running.

• Checkgrass catchercomponentsandthe

discharge guard frequently and replace

with manufacturer's recommended parts,

when necessary.

• Mowerbtades aresharp. Wrap the blade

or wear gloves, and use extra caution

when servicing them.

• Checkbrakeoperationfrequently. Adjust

and service as required_

• Maintain or replace safety and instruction

labels, as necessary,

o Be sure the area is clear of bystanders

before operating. Stop machineifanyone

enters the area.

back down slowly.

and then, turn slowly and gradually down-

hill, if possible.

unassernbled for shipping purposes. To ensure safe and proper operation of your tractor

all parts and hardware you assemble must be tightened securely° Use the correct tools as

necessary to insure proper tightness,

TOOLS REQUIRED FOR ASSEMBLY

A socket wrench set will make assembly

easier. Standard wrench sizes you need

are listed below.

(1) 3/4" wrench (1) Pliers

(1) 1/2" wrench (1) Utility knife

(1) Tire pressure gauge

When right or left hand is mentioned in this

manual, it means when you are in the operating

position (seated behind the steering wheel),

TO REMOVE TRACTOR FROM

CARTON

UNPACK CARTON

1, Remove all accessible loose parts and

parts boxes from carton,

2, Cut along dashed lines on all four panels

of carton, Remove end panels and lay

side panels flat.

3. Check for any additional loose parts or

cartons and remove.

TO ADJUST SEAT

Grasp adjustment handle (A) and pull up,

slide seat to desired position and release

adjustment handle.

CHECK BATTERY

I. Lift hood to raised position,

NOTE: If this battery is put into service

after month and year indicated on label

(L) (label is located between terminals)

charge batter:/for minimum of one hour at

6-10 amps, (See "BATTERY" in Mainte-

nance section of this manual for charging

instructions)°

NOTE: You may now roll your tractor off

the skid. Follow the appropriate instruction

below to remove the tractor from the skid.

_WARNING: Before starting, read,

understand and follow all instructions in the

Operation section of this manual° Be sure

tractor is in a well-ventilated area. Be sure

the area in front of tractor is clear of other

people and objects.

TO ROLL TRACTOR OFF SKID (See

Operation section for location and

function of controls)

1o Raise attachment lift lever to its highest

position.

2. Release parking brake by depressing

clutch/brake pedal.

3_ Place freewheel control in "transmission

disengaged position" (See "TO TRANS-

PORT"in Operationsectionofthis manual)

4, Roll tractor forward off skid.

5oRemove banding holding the deflector

shield up against tractor.

Continue with the instructions that follow°

CHECK TIRE PRESSURE

The tires on your tractor were overinflated at

the factory for shipping purposes. Correct

tire pressure is important for best cutting

performance.

• Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown on

tires.

CHECK DECK LEVELNESS

For best cutting results, mower housing

should be properly leveled° See "TO LEVEL

MOWER" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual.

CHECK FOR PROPER POSITION OF

ALL BELTS

See the figures that are shown for replacing

motion and mower blade drive belts in the

Service and Adjustments section of this man-

ual, Verify that the belts are routed correctly.

CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM

After you learn how to operate your tractor,

check to see that the brake is operating

properly. See "TO CHECK BRAKE" in the

Service and Adjustments section of this

manual.

e[CHECKLIST

Beforeyou operate your new tractor, we wish to

ensure that you receive the best performance

and satisfaction from this Quality Product,.

Please review the following checklist:

/All assembly instructions have been

completed.

/ No remaining loose parts in carton,

/Battery is properly prepared and

charged.

/ Seatis adjusted comfortably and tightened

securely.

/ All tires are properly inflated. (For ship-

ping purposes, the tires were overinflated

at the factory).

/ Besure mower deckis propertyleveled side-

to-side/front-to-rear for best cutting results.

(Tires must be properly inflated for leveting) o

/ Check mower and drive belts. Be sure

they are routed properly around pulleys

and inside all belt keepers,

/ Check wiring, See that all connections are

still secure and wires are properly clamped.

/ Before driving tractor, be sure freewheel

control is in "transmission engaged"

position (see "TO TRANSPORT" in the

Operation section of this manual).

While learning how to use your tractor, pay ex-

tra attention to the following important items:

/ Engine oil is at proper level.

/ Fuel tank is filled with fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline.

/ Become familiar with all controls, their

location and function. Operatethem before

you start the engine,

/ Be sure brake system is in safe operating

condition_

/ Be sure Operator Presence System and

Reverse Operation System (ROS) are

working properly (See the Operation and

Maintenance sections in this manual).

/Itis importantto purgethetransmission before

operating your tractor for the first time, Fol-

low proper starting and transmission purging

instructions (See''TO START ENGINE" and

"PURGETRANSMISSION"in the Operation

section of this manual).

(A) ATTACHMENT LIFT LEVER - Used to

raise and lower the mower or other attach-

ments mounted to your tractor.

(B) CLUTCH/BRAKE PEDAL- Used for

dectutching and braking the tractor and

starting the engine°

(C) PARKING BRAKE- Locks clutch/brake

pedal into the brake position,

(D) THROTTLE/CHOKE CONTROL- Used

for starting and controlling engine speed°

(E) ATTACH M ENT CLUTCH LEVER - Used

to engage the mower blades, or other attach-

ments mounted to your tractor,

(F) IGNITION SWITCH -Used for starting

and stopping the engine°

(G) REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM

(ROS) "ON" POSITION - Allows operation

of mower or other powered attachment while

in reverse.

(H) LIGHT SWITCH - Turns the headlights

on and off.

(J) MOTION CONTROL LEVER -Selects

the speed and direction of tractor,

(M) FREEWHEEL CONTROL- Disengages

transmission for pushing or slowly towing

the tractor with the engine off.

The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into

the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety

glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor or performing any

adjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or a

wide vision safety mask worn over spectacles.

HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR

TO SET PARKING BRAKE

"Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. When engine is

run ning, any attempt by the operator to leave

the seat without first setting the parking brake

will shut off the engine.

1. Depress clutch!brake pedal (B) all the

way down and hold.

2. Pull parking brake lever (C) up and hold,

release pressure from clutch/brake pedal

(B), then release parking brake lever. Ped-

al should remain in brake position Make

sure parking brake will hold tractor secu re.

° Move motion control lever (J) to neutral

position.

ENGINE -

°Movethrottle control (D) between half and

full speed (fast) position.

NOTE: Failure to move throttle control be-

tween hatf and full speed (fast) position, be-

fore stopping, may cause engine to "backfire".

STOPPING

MOWER BLADES -

.To stop mower blades, move attachment

clutch clutch lever to disengaged position

• Turn ignition key (F) to "STOP" position

and remove key_ Always remove key when

leaving tractor to prevent unauthorized use.

IMPORTANT: Leaving the ignition switch in

any position other than "STOP" will cause

the battery to discharge and go dead.

NOTE: Under certain conditions when tractor

is standing idle with the engine running, hot

engine exhaust gases may cause "brown-

ing" of grass. To eliminate this possibility,

always stop engine when stopping tractor

on grass areas.

_CAUTION: Always stop tractor com-

pletely, as described above, and set parking

brake before leaving the operator's position,

GROUND DRIVE-

• To stop ground drive, depress clutch/brake

pedal (B) all the way down.

TO USE THROTTLE CONTROL (D)

Always operate engine at full speed (fast).

• Operating engine at less than full speed

(fast) reduces engine's operating efficiency_

• Full speed (fast) offers the best mower

performance.

1. Start tractor with motion control lever in

neutral position.

2. Release parking brake.

3. Slowly move motion control lever to

desired position.

TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT

The position of the attachment lift lever (A)

determines the cutting height.

TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS

Gauge wheels are properly adjusted when

they are slightly off the ground when mower

is at the desired cutting height in operating

position_ Gauge wheels then keep the deck

in proper position to help prevent scalping

in most terrain conditions°

NOTE: Adjust gauge wheels with tractor on

a flat level surface.

1. Adjust mower to desired cutting height

(See "TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING

HEIGHT" in this section of manual).

2. With mower in desired height of cut posi-

tion, gauge wheels should be assembled

so they are slightly off the ground, install

gauge wheel in appropriate hole_ Tighten

securely°

3_ Repeat for all, installing gauge wheel in

same adjustment hole_

• Put attachment lift lever in desired cutting

height slot.

The cutting height range is approximately

!" to 4". The heights are measured from

the ground to the blade tip with the engine

not running. These heights are approximate

and may vary depending upon soil condi-

tions, height of grass and types of grass

being mowed,,

• The average lawn should be cut to ap-

proximately 2-1/2 inches during the cool

season and to over 3 inches during hot

months. For healthier and better looking

lawns, mow often and after moderate

growth.

• For best cutting performance, grass over

6 inches in height should be mowed twice.

Make the first cut relatively high; the sec-

ond to desired height.

TO OPERATE MOWER

Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. Any attempt

by the operator to leave the seat with the

engine running and the attachment clutch

engaged will shut off the engine. You must

remain fully and centrally positioned in the

seat to prevent the engine from hesitating or

cutting off when operating your equipment

on rough, rolling terrain or hills,

ment clutch control,

disengage attachment clutch control.

_IbCAUTION: Do not operate the mower

without either the entire grass catcher, on

mowers so equipped, or the deflector shield

REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS)

"-four tractor is equipped with a Reverse

Operation System (ROS). Any attempt by

the operator to travel in the reverse direction

with the attachment clutch engaged will shut

off the engine unless ignition key is placed

in the ROS "ON" position°

_,WARNING: Backing up with the at-

tachment clutch engaged while mowing is

strongly discouraged. Turning the ROS "ON",

to allow reverse operation with the attach-

ment clutch engaged, should only be done

when the operator decides it is necessary to

reposition the machine with the attachment

engaged, Do not mow in reverse unless

absolutely necessary.

USING THE REVERSE OPERATION

SYSTEM -

Only use if you are certain no children or other

bystanders will enter the mowing area,

1 Move motion control lever to neutral

position.

2. With engine running, turn ignition key

counterclockwise to ROS "ON" posi-

tion,

3. Look down and behind before and while

backing_

4o Slowly move motion control lever to

reverse (R) position to star[ movement.

5. When useofthe ROS is no longerneeded,

turn the ignition key clockwise to engine

"ON" position.

TO OPERATE ON HILLS

_WARNING: Do not drive up or down

hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not

drive across any slope. Use the slope guide

provided at the back of this manual.

• Choosetheslowestspeed before starting

up or down hills.

. Avoid stopping or changing speed on

hills.

• If stopping is absolutely necessary, push

clutch/brake pedal quickly to brake position

and engage parking brake.

- Move motion control lever to neutral posi-

tion.

IMPORTANT: The motion control lever does

not return to neutral position whenthe clutch/

brake pedal is depressed.

• To restart movement, slowly release park-

ing brake and clutch/brake pedal.

• Slowly move motion control lever to slow-

est setting.

• Make all turns slowly.

TO TRANSPORT

When pushing or towing your tractor, be

sure to disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in freewheeling position.

Freewheel control is located at the rear

drawbar of tractor.

1. Raise attachment lift lever to its highest

position.

2. Pull freewheel control out and into the slot

and release so it is held in the disengaged

position.

•Do not push or tow tractor at more than

two (2) MPH_

• To re-engagetransmission, reverse above

procedure,

NOTE: To protect hood from damage when

transporting your tractor on a truck or a trailer,

be sure hood is closed and secured to tractor.

Use an appropriate means of tying hood to

tractor (rope, cord, etc.).

TOWING CARTS AND OTHER ATTACH-

MENTS

Tow only the attachments that are recom-

mended by and comply with specifications

of the manufacturer of your tractor, Use

common sense when towing. Too heavy of

a load, while on a slope, is dangerous° Tires

can lose traction with the ground and cause

you to lose control of your tractor.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

The engine inyour tractor has been shipped,

from the factory, already filled with summer

weight oil.

1. Check engine oil with tractor on level

ground.

2. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick and wipe

clean, reinsertthe dipstick and screw cap

tight, wait for a few seconds, remove and

read oil level. If necessary, add oil until

"FULE' mark on dipstick is reached. Do

not overfill.

° For cold weather operation you should

change oil for easier starting (See the oil

viscosity chart in the Maintenance section

of this manual).

°Tochange engine oil, seethe Maintenance

section in this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

°Fill fuel tank to bottom offiller neck. Do not

overfill Use fresh, clean, regufar unleaded

gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane.

(Use of leaded gasoline will increase

carbon and lead oxide deposits and reduce

valve life). Do not mix oil with gasoline°

Purchase fuel in quantities that can be used

within 30 days to ensure fuel freshness.

_I_CAUTION: Wipe off any spilled oil or fuel

Do not store, spill or use gasoline near an

open ftame_

IMPORTANT: When operating in tem-

peratures below 32°F(0°C), use fresh, clean

winter grade gasoline to help insure good

cold weather starting.

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called

gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can

attract moisture which leads to separation

and formation ofacids during storage. Acidic

gas can damage the fuel system of an engine

while in storage. To avoid engine problems,

the fue! system should be emptied before

storage of 30 days or longer. Drain the gas

tank, start the engine and let it run until the

fuel lines and carburetor are empty. Use fresh

fuel next season. See Storage Instructions

for additional information. Never use engine

or carburetor cleaner products inthe fueltank

or permanent damage may occur.

TO START ENGINE

When starting the engine for the first time or

if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take

extra cranking time to move fuel from the

tank to the engined

1. Be sure freewheel control is in the trans-

mission engaged position_

2. Siton seat in operating position, depress

clutch/brake pedal and set parking brake.

3. Place motion control lever in neutral

position.

4. Move attachment clutch to disengaged

position.

5. Move throttle control to choke position°

NO'IrE: Before starting, read the warm and

cold starting procedures below.

6o Insert key into ignition and turn key

clockwise to start position and release

key as soon as engine starts. Do not run

starter continuously for more than fifteen

seconds per minute° If the engine does

not start after several attempts, move

throttle control to fast position, wait a

few minutes and try again, tf engine still

does not start, move the throttle control

back to the choke position and retry.

WARM WEATHER STARTING (50 ° F and

above) ,,

7. When engine starts, move the throttle

control to the fast position.

• The attachments and ground drive can

now be used. Ifthe engine does not accept

the load, restart the engine and allow it to

warm up for one minute using the choke

as described above.

COLD WEATHER STARTING (50 ° F and

below)

7. When engine starts, leave throttle control

in choke position until engine warms up

and begins to run roughly. Once rough

running begins, immediately move the

throttle control to the fast position, Engine

warm-up may take from several seconds

to several minutes (the colder the tem-

perature, the longer the warm-up) o

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WARM UP

Before driving the unit in cold weather, the

transmission should be warmed up as fol-

lows:

1. Be sure the tractor is on level ground.

2. Placethe motion control lever in

neutral. Release the parking brake

and let the clutch/brake slowly return

to operating position,

3_ Allow one minute for transmission to

warm upo This can be done during

the engine warm up period.

. The attachments can also be used dur-

ing the engine warm-up period after the

transmission has been warmed up.

NOTE: if at a high altitude (above 3000

feet) or in cold temperatures (below 32 F)

the carburetor fuel mixture may need to be

adjusted for best engine performance (see

"TO ADJUST CARBU R ETO R" in the Service

and Adjustments section of this manual).

PURGE TRANSMISSION

_CAUTION: Never engage or disengage

freewheel lever while the engine is running_

To ensure proper operation and performance,

it is recommended that the transmission be

purged before operating tractor for the first

time. This procedure will remove any trapped

air inside the transmission which may have

developed during shipping of your tractor.

IMPORTANT: Should your transmission

require removal for service or replacement,

it should be purged after reinstallation before

operating the tractor.

t. Place tractor safely on a level surface -

that is clear of objects and open - with

engine off and parking brake set.

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in disengaged position

(See "TO TRANSPORT" in this section

of manual).

3. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.

After the engine is running, move throttle

control to slow position. With motion

control lever in neutral position, slowly

disengage clutch/brake pedal

_CAUTION: At any time, during step 4,

there may be movement ofthe drive wheels.

4. Move motion control lever to full forward

position and hold for five (5) seconds.

Move lever to full reverse position and

hold for five (5) seconds° Repeat this

procedure three (3) times.

5. Move motion control lever to neutral

position. Shutoff engine and set parking

brake.

6_ Engage transmission by placing free-

wheel control in engaged position (See

"TO TRANSPORT" in this section of

manual).

7. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine°

After the engine is running, move throttle

control to half (112) speed. With motion

control lever in neutral position, slowly

disengage clutch/brake pedal.

8. Slowly mbve motion control lever forward,

after the tractor moves approximately

five (5) feet, slowly move motion control

lever to reverse position. After the tractor

moves approximately five (5) feet return

time motion control lever to the neutral

position. Repeat this procedure with the

motion control lever three (3) times.

'four transmission is now purged and now

ready for normal operation.

MOWING TIPS

• Tire chains cannot be used when the

mower housing is attached to tractor.

• Mower should be properly leveled for best

mowing performance_ See "TO LEVEL

MOWER HOUSING" in the Service and

Adjustments section of this manual,,

• The left hand side of mower should be

used for trimming,

• Drive so that clippings are discharged onto

the area that has already been cut, Have

the cut area to the right of the tractor. This

will result in a more even distribution of

clippings and more uniform cutting°

• When mowing large areas, start by turning

to the right so that clippings will discharge

away from shrubs, fences, driveways,

etc. After one or two rounds, mow in the

opposite direction making left hand turns

until finished.

- If grass is extremely tall, it should be

mowed twice to reduce load and possible

fire hazard from dried clippings. Make

first cut relatively high; the second to the

desired height.

• Do not mow grass when it is wet. Wet

grass will plug mower and leave undesir-

able clumps. Allow grass to dry before

mowing,

• Always operate engine at full throttle

when mowing to ensure better mow-

ing performance and proper discharge

of material. Regulate ground speed by

selecting a tow enough speed to give the

mower cutting performance as well as the

quality of cut desired,

• When operating attachments, select a

ground speed that will suit the terrain and

give best performance of the attachment

being used.

points which have special nylon bearings.

Viscous lubricants will attract dust and dirt

that will shorten the life of the self-lubricating

bearings. If you feel they must be lubricated,

use only a dry, powdered graphite type lu-

bricant sparingly°

Always observe safety rules when performing

any maintenance.

BRAKE OPERATION

If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to

stop at highest speed in highest gear on a

level, dry concrete or paved surface, then

brake must be serviced. (See "TO CHECK

BRAKE" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual),

TIRES

• Maintain proper air pressure in all tires

(See the sides of tires for proper PSI).

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

control chemicals which can harm rubber.

. Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp

objects and other hazards that may cause

tire damage°

NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, tire sealant may

be purchased from your local parts dealer.

OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM AND

REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS)

Be sure operator presence and reverse

operation systems are working properly, tf

brake pedal is fully depressed, and the

by the operator to leave the seat without

first setting the parking brake should shut

off the engine.

. When the engine is running and the at-

tachment clutch is engaged, any attempt

by the operator to leave the seat should

shut off the engine.

. The attachment clutch should never oper-

ate unless the operator is in the seat,,

CHECK REVERSE OPERATION (ROS)

SYSTEM

° When the engine is running withthe ignition

switch in the engine "ON" position and the

attachment clutch engaged, any attempt

by the operator to drive in reverse should

shut off the engine.

° When the engine is running with the ignition

switch in the ROS "ON" position and the

attachment clutch engaged, any attempt

by the operator to drive in reverse should

NOT shut off the engine,

BLADE CARE

For best results mower blades must be sharp.

Replace worn, bent or damaged blades.

,& CAUTION: Use only a replacement

blade approved by the manufacturer of your

tractor. Using a blade not approved by the

manufacturer of your tractor is hazardous,

could damage your tractor and void your

warranty_

BLADE REMOVAL

1. Raise mower to highest position to allow

access to blades.

NOTE: Protect your hands with gloves and/

or wrap blade with heavy cloth.

2. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

3. install new blade with stamped "GRASS

SIDE" facing the ground.

IMPORTANT: To ensure proper assembly,

center hole in blade must align with star on

mandrel assembly.

4. Install and tighten blade bolt securely

(45-55 Ft. Lbso torque).

IMPORTANT: Special blade bolt is heat

treated.

BATTERY

Your tractor has a battery charging system

which is sufficient for normal use, However,

periodic charging of the battery with an au-

tomotive charger will extend its life.

• Keep battery and terminals ctean_

• Keep battery bolts tight.

• Keep small vent holes open.

• Recharge at 6-!0 amperes for 1 hour.

NOTE: The original equipment battery on

your tractor is maintenance free. Do not

attempt to open or remove caps or covers°

Adding or checking level of electrolyte is

not necessary_

TO CLEAN BATTERY AND TERMINALS

Corrosion and dirton the battery and terminals

can cause the battery to "leak" power.

1. Disconnect BLACK battery cable first

then RED battery cable and remove

battery from tractor°

2. Rinse the battery with plain water and dry.

3, Clean terminals and battery cable ends

with wire brush until bright.

4_ Coat terminals with grease or petroleum

jelly_

5. Reinstall battery (See "REPLACING

BATTERY" in the SERVICE AND AD-

JUSTMENTS section of this manual).

TRANSAXLE COOLING

The transmission fan and cooling fins should

be kept clean to ensure proper cooling.

Do not attempt to clean fan or transmission

while engine is running or while the trans-

mission is hot° To prevent possible damage

to seals, do not use high pressure water or

steam to clean transaxle.

• Inspect cooling fan to be sure fan blades

are intact and clean.

• inspectcoolingfinsfordirt, grassclippings

and other materials. To prevent damage to

seals, do not use compressed air or high

pressure sprayer to clean cooling fins.

TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID

The transaxle was sealed at the factory and

fluid maintenance is not required for the life

of the transaxleo Should the transaxle ever

leak or require servici ng, contact your nearest

Sears or other qualified service center.

Check V-belts for deterioration and wear after

100 hours of operation and replace if neces-

sary. The belts are not adjustable. Replace

belts if they begin to slip from wear,

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

Only use high quality detergent oil rated with

API service classification SG-SL, Selectthe

oil's SAE viscosity grade according to your

expected operating temperature. 18

NOTE: Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30,

10W30 etc,) improve starting in cold weather,

they will result in increased oil consumption

when used above 32°E Check your engine

oil level more frequently to avoid possible

engine damage from running low on oil

Changethe oil after every 50 hours of opera-

tion or at least once a year if the tractor is

not used for 50 hours in one yearn

Checkthe crankcase oil level before starting

the engine and after each eight (8) hours of

operation. Tighten oil fill cap/dipstick se-

curely each time you check the oil level.

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

Determine temperature range expected

before oil change,, All oil must meet API

service classification SG-SL

• Be sure tractor is on level surface.

• Oil will drain more freely when warm.

. Catch oil in a suitable container.

I. Remove oil fill cap/dipstick. Be careful

not to allow dirt to enter the engine when

changing oilo

2. Removeyellowcapfrom endofdrainvalve

and install the drain tube onto the fitting.

3, Unlock drain valve by pushing inward

slightly and turning counterclockwise.

4. To open, pull out on the drain valve.

5. After oil has drained completely, close and

lock the drain valve by pushing inward

and turning clockwise until the pin is in

the locked position as shown,

6. Remove the drain tube and replace the

cap onto the end of the drain valve.

7, Refill engine with oilthrough oil fill dipstick

tube. Pour slowly_ Do not overfili, For

approximate capacity see "PRODUCT

SPECIFICATIONS"sectionofthis manual.

8o Use gauge on oil fill cap/dipstick for

checking level. For accurate reading,

insert dipstick into the tube and push

down firmly into place before removing,

Keep oil up to, but not over, the "FULL_

line on dipstick° Push dipstick down firmly

into the tube when finished,

ENGINE OIL FILTER

Replace the engine oil filter every season or

every other oil change if the tractor is used

more than 100 hours in one year.

AIR FILTER

"(our engine will not run properly using a dirty

air filter. Replace pre-cleaner after every 25

hours of operation or every season. Service

paper cartridge every 100 hours of operation

or every season, whichever occurs first.

Service air cleaner more often under dusty

conditions.

I. Pull up on airfitter cover handle and rotate

towards engine.

2. Remove cover.

3. Carefully remove air filter cartridge and

pre-cleaner from base.

4. Clean base carefully to prevent debris

from falling into carbureton

Place new pre-cteaner and cartridge

firmly in base.

Align tabs on cover with slots in blower

housing and replace cover.

Hook handle on cover and push down

on handle to close.

IMPORTANT: Petroleum solvents, such as

kerosene, are not to be used to clean the

cartridge° They may cause deterioration of

the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Do not

use pressurized air to clean cartridge.

CLEAN AIR SCREEN

Air screen must be kept free of dirt and chaff

to prevent engine damage from overheating.

Clean with a wire brush or compressed air to

remove dirt and stubborn dried gum fibers,

ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM

Debris may clog the engine's air cooling

system. Remove blower housing and clean

area shown to prevent overheating and

engine damage.

MUFFLER

Inspect and replace corroded muffler and

spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create

a fire hazard and/or damage.

SPARK PLUG(S)

Replace spark plug(s) atthe beginning of each

mowing season or after every 100 hours of

operation, whichever occurs first. Spark plug

type and gap setting are shown in "PRODUCT

SPECIFICATIONS" section of this manual.

IN.LINE FUEL FILTER

The fuel filter should be replaced once each

season. If fuel filter becomes clogged, ob-

structing fuelfiowto carburetor, replacement

is required.

1. With engine cool, remove filter and plug

fuel line sections.

2. Place new fuel filter in position in fuel line

with arrow pointing towards carburetor.

3. Be sure there are no fuel line leaks and

clamps are properly positioned.

4. Immediatelywipe up any spilled gasoline.

CLEANING

• Clean engine, battery, seat, finish, etc. of

all foreign matter.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels free

of all gasoline, oil, etc.

• Protect painted surfaces with automotive

type wax.

We do not recommend using a garden hose

or pressure washer to clean your tractor

unless the engine and transmission are

covered to keep water out, Water in engine

or transmission will shorten the useful life of

your tractor° Use compressed air or a leaf

blower to remove grass, leaves and trash

from tractor and mower.

DECK WASHOUT PORT

Your tractor's deck is equipped with a

washout port on its surface as part of its

deck wash system_ It should be utilized af _

ter each use,

1_ Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot

on your lawn, near enough to a water

spigot for your garden hose to reach.

IMPORTANT: Make certain the tractor's

discharge chute is directed AWAY from your

house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove

bagger chute or mulch cover if attached.

2. Make sure the PTO (Blade Engage) is

not engaged, setthe parking brake, and

stop the engine.

3. Thread the nozzle adapter (packaged

with your tractor's Operator's Manual)

onto the end of your garden hose.

4. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle

adapter and push the adapter onto the

deck washout port at the left end of the

mower deck. Release the lock collar to

lock the adapter on the nozzle.

/

IMPORTANT: Tug hose ensuring connec-

tion is secure.

5. Turn thewater on.

6. While sitting in the operator's position

on the tractor, re-start the engine and

place the throttle lever in the Fast ",_"

position,

IMPORTANT: Recheck the area making

certain the area is clear.

7. Movethetractor'sPTO(BladeEngage)

to the ON position, Remain in the op-

erator's position with the cutting deck

engaged until the deck is cleaned,

8. Move the tractor's PTO (Blade Engage)

to the OFF position. Turn the ignition

key to the STOP position to turn the

adapter to disconnect the adapter from

the nozzle washout port,

10, Move the tractor to a dry area, prefer-

ably a concrete or paved area. Engage

the mower deck PTO to remove excess

water and to help dry before putting the

tractor away.

d_I_WARNING: A broken or missing washout

fitting could expose you or others to thrown

objects from contact with the blade.

• Replace broken or missing washout fitting

immediately, prior to using mower again.

• Plug any holes in mower with bolts and

iocknuts.

6_ Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with plug.

TO REMOVE MOWER

1. Place attachment clutch in "DISEN-

GAGED" position.

2. Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest

position.

3. Roll belt off engine pulley (M) and belt

keepers (G)°

4. Remove retainer spring (K), slide collar

(L) off and push housing guide (P) out

of bracket.

5. Remove clutch cable spring (Q) from

idler arm (R)o

6. Disconnect front link (E) from mower -

remove retainer spring and washer,

7. Go to either side of mower and discon-

nect mower suspension arm (A) from

chassis pin (B) and rear lift link (C) from

rear mower bracket (D) - remove retainer

springs and washers,

CAUTION: After rear lift links are discon-

nected, the attachment lift lever will be spring

loaded. Have a tight grip on lift lever when

changing position of the lever.

8, Slide mower out from under right side of

tractor°

IMPORTANT: If an attachment other than

the mower is to be mounted on the tractor,

remove the front link (E) and rear lift liks

(C) from tractor and hook the clutch spring

(Q) into the cable guide on front edge of

lower dash.

TO INSTALL MOWER

Be sure tractor is on level surface and engage

parking brake.

1_ Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest

position.

,_ CAUTION: Lift lever is spring loaded.

Have a tight grip on lift lever, lower it slowly

and engage in lowest position.

NOTE: Be sure mower side suspension

TO LEVEL MOWER

Make sure tires are properly inflated to the

PSI shown on tires_ Iftires are over or under

inflated, it may affect the appearance of your

lawn and lead you to think the mower is not

adjusted properly.

VISUAL SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

t. With all tires properly inflated and if your

lawn appears unevenly cut, determine

which side of mower is cutting lower.

NOTE: As desired, you can raise the low

side of mower or lower the high side°

2. Go to side of mower you wish to adjust.

3. With a 3/4" or adjustable wrench, turn

lift link adjustment nut (A) to the left to

lower the mower, or, to the right to raise

the mower.

4_ Test your adjustment by mowing some

uncut grass and visually checking the

FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT

IMPORTANT: Deck must be level side-

to-side.

To obtain the best cutting results, the mower

blades should be adjusted so the front tip is

t/8" to 1/2" lower than the rear tip when the

mower is in its highest position.

CAUTION: Blades are sharp. Protect

your hands with gloves and/or wrap blade

with heavy cloth.

• Raise mower to highest position_

. Position any blade so the tip is pointing

straight forward° Measure distance (B) to

the ground at front and rear tip of the blade.

• Iffront tip of blade is not 1/8" to 1/2" lower

than the rear tip, go to the front of tractor.

TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT

Park the tractor on level surface, Engage

parking brake. For assistance, there is a

belt installation guide decal on bottom side

of left footrest.

BELT REMOVAL -

1. Remove mower (See "TO REMOVE

MOWER" in this section of manual).

NOTE: Observe entire motion drive belt and

position of all belt guides and keepers.

2, Remove beltfrom stationary idler (A) and

clutching idler (B).

3. Remove belt from centerspan idler (C).

6o Pull belt slack toward rear of tractor.

Carefully remove belt upwards from

transmission input puIley and over cool-

ing fan blades (D).

4. Remove belt downward from engine

pulley (E).

5. Slide belt toward rear of tractor, off the

steering plate (F--)and remove from tractor,

BELT INSTALLATION -

1. Install new belt from tractor rear to front,

over the steering plate (F) and above

TO CHECK BRAKE

If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to

stop at highest speed in highest gear on a

level, dry concrete or paved surface, then

brake must be serviced.

You may also check brake by:

I. Park tractor on a level, dry concrete or

paved surface, depress brake pedal all

the way down and engage parking braker

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in "transmission dis-

engaged" position, Pull freewheel control

out and into the slot and release so it is

held in the disengaged position.

The rear wheels must lock and skid when

you try to manually push the tractor forward.

If the rear wheels rotate, then the brake

needs to be serviced. Contact a Sears or

other qualified service center.

FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER

Your new tractor front wheel toe-in and cam-

ber is set at the factory and is normal. The

front wheeltoe-in and camber are not adjust-

able. If damage has occurred to affect the

factory set front wheel toe-in or camber, con-

tact aSears or other qualified service center.

TO REMOVE WHEEL FOR REPAIRS

1. Block up axle securely_

2. Remove axle cover, retaining ring and

washers to allow wheel removal (rear

wheels have a square key - Do not lose).

3. Repair tire and reassemble°

NOTE: On rear wheels only: align grooves in

rear wheel hub and axle. Insert square key.

4. Replacewashers and snap retaining ring

securely in axle groove.

5. Replace axle cover.

NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, purchase and

use tire sealant from Sears. Tire sealant also

prevents tire dry rot and corrosion.

NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT

The motion control lever has been preset atthe

factor,/; adjustment should not be necessary.

t. Loosen adjustment bolt in front of the

right rear wheel, and lightly tighten.

2, Start engine and move motion control

lever until tractor does not move forward

or backward.

3. Hold motion control lever in that position

and turn engine off.

4, While holding motion control lever in

place, loosen the adjustment bolt.

5. Move motion control lever to the neutral

(lock gate) position.

6. Tighten adjustment bolt securely.

NOTE: If additional clearance is needed to

get to adjustment bolt, move mower deck

height to the lowest position.

After above adjustment is made, if the trac-

tor still creeps forward or backward while

motion control lever is in neutral position,

follow these steps:

t. Loosen the adjustment bolto

2. Move the motion control lever 1/4 to 1/2

inch in the direction it is trying to creep, 25

3, Tighten adjustment bolt securely.

4, Start engine and test.

5, If tractor still creeps, repeat above steps

until satisfied,

TO START ENGIN EWITH WEAK BATTE RY

_WARNING: Lead-acid batteries gener-

ate explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame

and smoking materials away from batteries.

Always wear eye protection when around

batteries.

If your battery istoo weak to start the engine, it

should be recharged. (See "BATTERY" in the

MAINTENANCE section of this manual).

If "jumper cables" are used for emergency

starting, follow this procedure:

IMPORTANT: Your tractor is equipped with

a 12 volt system. The other vehicle must also

be a 12 volt system_ Do not use your tractor

battery to start other vehicles°

TO ATTACH JUMPER CABLES -

1. Connect one end ofthe RED cable to the

POSITIVE (+) terminalof each battery(A-

B), taking care notto short against tractor

chassis.

2, Connect one end of the BLACK cable

to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal (C) of fully

charged battery.

grounding.

2. Disconnect BLACK battery cable (A)

then RED battery cable and carefully

remove battery from tractor,

3. Install new battery with terminals in

same position as old battery,

TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT BULB

1. Raise hood.

2. Remove bulb holder from the hole in

the backside of the grill.

3. Replace bulb in holder and install bulb

holder securely back into the hole in

the backside of the grill.

4. Close hood.

INTERLOCKS AND RELAYS

Loose or damaged wiring may cause

your tractor to run poorly, stop running, or

prevent it from starting.

• Check wiring. See electrical wiring

diagram in the Repair Parts manual°

TO REPLACE FUSE

Replace with 20 amp automotive-type

plug-in fuse. The fuse holder is located

behind the dash.

TO REMOVE HOOD & GRILL ASSEMBLY

!. Raise hood.

2o Unsnap headlight wire connector.

3. Stand in front of tractor° Grasp hood at

sides, tilt toward engine and lift off of

tractor.

4. When replacing hood, be sure to re-

connect the headlight wire connector.

The throttle control has been preset at

the factory and adjustment should not be

necessary Check adjustment as described

below before loosening cable, tf adjustment

is necessary, see engine manual.

TO ADJUST CHOKE CONTROL

The choke control has been preset at the

factory and adjustment should not be neces-

sary. If adjustment is necessary, see engine

manual.

TO ADJUST CARBURETOR

Your carburetor has been preset at the factory

and adjustment should not be necessary.

However, minor adjustment may be required

to compensate for differences in fuel, tem-

perature, altitude or load. If the engine does

need adjustment, see engine manual

Immediately prepare your tractor for storage

at the end of the season or if the tractor will

not be used for 30 days or more.

,AWARNING: Never store the tractor with

gasoline in the tank inside a building where

fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

Allow the engine to cool before storing in

any enclosure.

TRACTOR

When tractor is to be stored for a period

of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt, 5.

grease, leaves, etco Store in a clean, dry area. 26

1. Clean entire tractor (See"CLEANING" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).

2o lnspectand replacebelts, ifnecessary (See

belt replacementinstructionsin the Service

and Adjustments section of this manual).

3. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance

section of this manual.

4. Be sure that all nuts, bolts and screws

are securely fastened. Inspect moving

parts for damage, breakage and wear.

Replace if necessary.

Touch up alt rusted or chipped paint

surfaces; sand lightly before painting.

BATTERY

• Fully charge the battery for storage°

• After a period of time in storage, battery

may require recharging_

• To help prevent corrosion and power leak-

age during long periods of storage, battery

cables should be disconnected and bat-

tery cleaned thoroughly (see "TO CLEAN

BATTERY AND TERMINALS" in the

Maintenance section of this manual)°

• After cleaning, leave cables disconnected

and place cables where they cannot come

in contact with battery terminals.

• If battery is removed from tractor for

storage, do not store battery directly on

concrete or damp surfaces.

ENGINE

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential fuel

system parts such as carburetor, fuel hose,

or tank during storage. Also, alcohol bIended

fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or

methanol) can attract moisture which leads

to separation and formation of acids during

storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel

system of an engine while in storage.

• Empty the fueltank by starting the engine

and letting it run until the fuel lines and

carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

o Use fresh fuel next season,

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable

alternative in minimizing the formation of

fuel gum deposits during storage° Add

stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or storage

container, Always follow the mix ratio found

on stabilizer container. Run engine at least

10 minutes after adding stabilizer to allow

the stabilizer to reach the carburetor_ Do not

empty the gas tank and carburetor if using

fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in the

Maintenance section of this manual)_

CYLINDER(S)

I. Remove spark plug(s).

2. Pour one ounce of oil through spark plug

hole(s) into cylinder(s).

3o Turn ignition key to start position for a

few seconds to distribute oil.

4o Replace with new spark plug(s),

OTHER

• Do not store gasoline from one season to

another,,

. Replaceyourgasotine canifyourcan starts

to rust. Rust and/or dirt in your gasoline

will cause problems.

• If possible, store your tractor indoors and

cover it to give protection from dust and dirt°

• Cover your tractor with a suitable protec-

tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic. Plastic cannot breathe

which allows condensation to form and will

cause your tractor to rust°

IMPORTANT: Never cover tractor while

engine and exhaust areas are stilt warm.

PARA REMOVER EL TRACTOR DE

DESEMPAQUE LA CAJA DE CARTON

I ._ Remueva todas las partes suettas que est6n

3o Ponga elcontro! de la rueda libre en la

posici6n de giro libre para desenganchar la

transmisi6m (Vea "PARA TRANSPORTAR"

en la secci6n de Operaci6n de este manual).

4. Haga rodar el tractor hacia delante fuera de

la corredera,

REVISION DE LA PRESlON DE LAS

LLANTAS

Las Ilantas en su unidad fueron infladas de-

masiado en la f&brica por razones de envioo La

presi6n de tas !lantas correctas es importante

para obtener el mejor rendimiento en el corte,

Reduzca la presiSn de los neum&ticos a la PSI

que se indica en estos.

REVISION DE LA NIVELAClON DEL

CONJUNTO

Para obtener los mejores resuttados en el corte, la

caja de la segadora tiene que estar nivelada en la

forma adecuada. Vea "PARA NIVELAR LA CAJA

DE LA SEGADORh;' en la secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual.

RISVISION DE LA POSICION ADECUADA

DE TODAS LAS CORREAS

Vea las figuras que aparecen para cambiar las

correas de impulsi6n de la cuchilla de la sega-

dora y de movimiento en la secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual. Verifique que las correas

sigan su paso correcto.

REVISION DEL SISTEMA DE FRENOS

Una vez que usted haya aprendido a manejar su

tractor, verifique que el freno funcione correcta-

mente, Ver "PARA VERIFICAR Sl FUNCIONA

BIEN EL FRENO" en et capitulo de servicio y

ajustes de este manual.

Antes de operar y de disfrutar de sutractor nuevo,

ie deseamos que reciba el mejor rendimiento y la

Haga el favor de revisar la lista a continuacion:

_" Revise las correas de impulsi6n y de la

segadora,, AsegSrese que recorran el paso

adecuado alrededor de las poteas y dentro de

todos los fijadores de las correas.

v" Revise el alambrado. Fijese que todas las

conexiones todavia est_n seguras y que los

alambres est6n sujetos en forma adecuada.

/Antes de conducir el tractor, aseg_rese que

el control de rueda libre este en la posici6n

de "transmisi6n enganchada" (Vea "PARA

TRANSPORTAR" en la secci6n de la Oper-

aci6n de este manual)_

A! mismo tiempo que aprende a como usar su

tractor, preste atencion extra a los puntos de

La operac[6n de cualquier tractor puede hacer que salteR objetos extrar_os dentro

de sus oios, io que puede producir da5os graves en 6stos. Siempre use anteojos

de seguridad o protecciones para los ojos mientras opere su tractor o cuando

haga ajustes o reparaciones. Recomendamos galas de seguridad o una m&scara

de visi6n amplia de seguridad usada sobre las gafas.

COMO USAR SU TRACTOR

PARA AJUSTAR EL FRENO DE ESTAClONA-

MIENTO

Su tractor viene equipado con un interruptor sen-

sor que exige la presencia del operador. Cuando

el motor est& funcionando, si et operador trata de

baiarse del astento sin primero aplicar el freno de

estacionamiento, se apagarA el motor.

1. Presione el pedal (D) dei freno/embrague

completamente y sostengaloo

2o Jale hacia arriba la palanca del freno de

mano (H) y mant6ngala en esa posici6n;

suelte gradualmente e! pedal del embrague/

freno (D), y luego sueite la palanca del [reno

de manoo El pedal tiene que quedar en la

posici6n de freno. Asegt]rese que el freno

de estacionamiento va a sujetar el tractor en

forma segura.

•Mueva la palanca de control de mov[miento

(J) a la posici6n de neutro,

MOTOR -

• Mover ta palanca (D) de mando entre la

posici6n de velocidad media y m#,xima (r&pida).

AVISO:Si no se mueve la palanca de mando

entre la posiciSn de velocidad media y m&xima

(r&pida), antes de pararse, se puede causar un

"retorno de llama" del motor.

IMPORTANTE: Dejando el interruptor de la

AVlSO: Bajo ciertas condiciones, cuando el trac-

tor est,, parado con el motor andando en vacio,

los gases de escape del motor caliente pueden

hacer que et cesped se ponga "caf6/' Para

eliminar esta posibilidad, siempre pare el motor

cuando pare el tractor en &teas con c6spedo

•Si el motor funciona auna velocidad inferiora la

ATRAS

La direcciSn y la vetocidad del movimiento son

controladas per medio de la patanca de control

de movimiento (J).

1o Haga arrancar el motor con la palanca de con-

trol de movimiento en ia posici6n de neutro.

2. Suelte el freno de estacionamiento_

3. Lentamente, mueva la palanca de control de

movimiento a la posiciSn deseadao

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CORTE DE

LA SEGADORA

L_ posiciSn de la patanca etevadora (A) determina

a qu_ al_ura se cortar& el c6sped_

AViSO: Ajuste las ruedas calibradoras con el

tractor en una superficie nivelada plana.

1. Ajuste la segadora a fa altura de corte

deseada con ta manilla de ajuste de al-

tufa (Vea "PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE

CORTE DE LA SEGADORA" en la secci6n

de Operaci6n de este manual).

2. Con la segadora a la altura deseada para la

posici6n de corte, se tienen que montar las

ruedas calibradoras de mode que queden

un poco sobre el sue!o,, Instale las ruedas

calibradoras en el agujero adecuado con el

perno con resalto, la arandela de 3/8, y la

tuerca de seguridad de 3/8-16 y apri6telos

en forma segura,

3o Repita et procedimiente para el lade opuesto

instalando la rueda calibradora en el mismo

agujero de ajuste,,

• Coloque la palanca elevadora en la ranura de

la altura deseada.

La gama de la altura de corte es de aproxima-

damente 1 a 4 pulgadas. Las al[uras se miden

desde el suelo a la punta de la cuchilla cuando

el motor no est& funcionando. Estas alturas son

aproximadas y pueden variar dependiendo de las

condiciones del suelo, de la altura del c#sped y

del ripe del c_sped que se est& segando,,

• Et c6sped promedio debe cortarse aproximada-

mente a 2-I/2 pulgadas durante la temporada

fria y sobre 3 pulgadas durante los meses

calurosos,, Para obtener un c6sped m_,ssalud-

able y de meier apariencia, siegue a menudo

y despu6s de un crecimiento moderado.

• Para obtener el mejor rendimiento de corte, el

c_sped que tiene m&s de 6 putgadas de attura

debe segarse dos veces. Haga elprimer corte rel-

ativamente alto; et segundo a la altura deseada.

PARA AJUSTAR LAG RUEDAS CALIBRA-

DORAS

Las ruedas calibradoras est&n bien ajustadas

cuando se encuentran un poco a distancia det

terreno at mismo tiempo que la segadora est6 a

la altura de code deseada. Entonces las ruedas

calibradoras mantienen el conjunto segador en

posici6n para prevenir el corte raspeo en casi

PARA OPERAR LA SEGADORA

Su tractor viene equipada con un interrupter

sensor que exige la presencia del operador,. Si

2. Baje la segadora con el control de levan-

tamiento del accesorioo

3. Haga arrancar las cuchillas de la segadora

enganchando el control del embrague del

accesorio.

PARA PARAR LAS CUCHILLAS DE LA SEGA-

DORA- desenganche et control del embrague

del accesorioo

_PRECAUCl0N: No opere la segadora sin,

ya sea, el recogedor de c#sped complete en las

segadoras asl equipadas o con la protecciSn

contra la descarga (S) en su lugaro

FUNClONAMIENTO ATRAS

Tu tractor est#,equipado con el Sistema de Fun-

cionamiento Atr&s (ROS). Cualquier tentativa del

operador de viajar marcha atr#,s con el embrague

puesto apagar#, el motor a menos que la Itave de

ignici6n se ponga en la posici6n de "ON" del ROS.

ATENClON: lr marcha atr#.s con el embrague

puesto para cortar, no es recomendable, Po-

niendo el ROSen posici6n "ON", para permitir el

funcionamiento atr&s con el embrague puesto, se

tiene que hacer s61ocuando el operador lo consi-

dera necesario para reposicionar la m_quina con

el dispositivo embragado_ No siegue en rev_s a

menos que sea absolutamente necesario.

USAR EL SISTEMA DE FUNCIONAMIENTO

ATRAS -

Utilice el tractor solamente si est& seguro de que

no ingresar&n nir_osni otras personas o animales

al &rea donde se va a cortar el c6sped.

t. Mover la palanca de mando del movimiento

en la posici6n neutro.

2,, Con et motor en march& girar la Ilave del in-

terrupter de la ignici6n en elsentido inverse al

de las agujas del reloj hasta la posici6n "ON".

3, Mire hacia abajo y hacia atr&s no s61oantes

de ir marcha atr&s, sine mientras est_ yendo

marcha atr&s.

4, Mover despacio la palanca de mando del

movimiento hacia la posici6n atr&s (R) para

empezar et movimiento,

5. Cuando el use det ROSes m&s necesario, d6

vuelta a la tlave de ignici6n en el sentido de

Ias agujas del reloj hasta ta posici6n "ON".

PARA OPERAR EN CERROS

_ADVERTENClA: No maneje hacia arriba o

hacia abajo en cerros con pendientes superiores a

15° y no maneje atravesando ninguna pendiente.

Utilice la guia de la pendiente proporcionada en

la parte posteriora de este manual,,

• Escoja la velocidad m&s tenta antes de arran-

car hacia arriba o hacia abajo en cerroso

. Evite parar o cambiar la velocidad en cerros.

• Si es abselutamente necesario el parar, empuje

el pedal del embrague/freno r&pidamente a

la posici6n de freno y enganche el freno de

estacionamiento.

• Mueva la palanca de control de movimiento a

la posici6n de neutro.

IMPORTANTE" La palanca de control de movk

miento no vuetve a la posici6n de neutro cuando

el pedal del embrague/freno esta presionado.

• Para volver a empezar con el movimiento,

suelte lentamente, el freno de estacionamiento

y el pedal del embrague/freno,

• Lentamente, mueva la palanca de control de

movimiento al ajuste m&s lento,

PARA TRANSPO RTAR

Cuando empuje o arrastre su tractor aseg0rese de

desenganchar fa transmisi6n poniendo el control

de la rueda libre en la posici6n de marcha de rue-

da libre,, E! control de marcha de rueda libre esta

situado en la barra de tracci6n trasera del tractor,

1. Levante la palanca de levantamiento del ac-

cesorio a su posici6n m_,s alta,

2,, Tire del mando de la rueda libre hacia afuera

y hacia abajo hasta que se coloque en la guia

y su_Italo de manera que se mantenga en la

posici6n de desenganchada,

, No empuje o arrastre eltractor a m_.s de dos

(2) MPH.

• Paravolver a accionar latransmisi6n, inviella

este procedimiento,

TRANSMISION ENGANCHADA

TRANSMISION DESENGANCHADA

AVISO: Para proteger el cap5 contra el daflo

cuando transporte su tractor en un cami6n o

remolcador, asegtlrese que el cap6 est6 cerrado

y asegurado al tractor° Use los medics apropia-

dos para amarrar el cap6 al tractor (cuerdas,

cordeles, etc.).

REMOLQUE DE CARRETILLAS OOTROS

ACOESORIOS

Remolque solamente los accesorios recomenda-

dos y especificados per el fabricante del tractor,

Use sentido comen cuado este remolcando. Las

cargas pesadas, cuando este yendo sobre una

pendiente, son peligrosas, las Itantas pueden

perder su tracci6n con el terreno ypueden oca-

sionar que pierda el control de su tractor_

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL MO-

TOR

REVISE EL NIVEL DE ACEITE DEL MOTOR

El motor en su tractor iqaside enviado desde la

f&brica ilene con aceite de calidad para verano.

1. Revise el aceite del motor con el tractor en

terreno nivelado,,

2_ Remueva la tapa!varitla indicadorade nivel de

relleno del aceite y limpielas, vuetva a insertar

ia varilla indicadora de nivel y atornille la tapa

hasta que quede apretada, espere per unos

cuantos segundos, remu6vala y lea el nivel

del aceite,, Si es necesario, agregue aceite

hasta que se haya atcanzado la marca lleno

(FULL) en la varilla indicadora de nivel, No to

Ilene demasiado.

• Para la operaci6n en clima frio, debe cambiar

el aceite para poder arrancar m&s f&cilmente

(Yea "Tabla de Viscosidad Dei Aceite" en la

secci6n de Mantenimente de este manual):.

• Para cambiar el aceite del motor, yea ta secclon

de Mantenimento en este manual,

AGREGUEGASOLINA

.Ltene el estanque de combustible Llene

hasta la parle inferior del cuello de relleno del

estanque de gasolina. No Io llene demasiado.

Use gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y fim-

pia con et mfnimo de 87 octanos+, (El uso de

gasolina con plomo aumentar& los dep6sitos

de 6xido de plorno y carbono y se reducir_, la

duraci6n de la v&lvula). No mezcle el aceite

con la gasolina. Para asegurar que la gasotina

utilizada sea fresca compre estanques los

cuales puedan ser utilizados durante los prim-

eros 30 dlas.

_PRECAUCl6N: Limpie el aceite o el combus-

tible derramado. No atmacene, derrame o use

gasotina cerca de una llama expuesta,,

IMPORTANTE: Cuando se opere en tempera-

turas por debajo de 32°F (0°C) use gasolina de

invierno limpia y nueva para auedar a asegurar

un buen arra.nque en clima frio_

PRECAUClON: Combustibles mezclados con

alcohol (conocidos como gasohol, o el uso de

etanol o metanol) pueden atraer la humedad,

la que conduce a la separaci6n y formaci6n de

&cidos durante el almacenamiento, La gasolina

acidica puede daflar el sistema del combustible

de un motor durante el almacenamiento_ Para

evitar los problemas con el motor, se debe vaciar

et sistema de combustible antes de guardarlo por

un perfodo de 30 dlas o m&s. Vacie el estanque

de combustible, haga arrancar el motor y h&galo

funcionar hasta que las lfneas del combustible y el

carburador queden vacios,, La pr6xima temporada

use combustible nuevo° Vea las Instrucciones

para el Almacenamiento para m&s informaci6n.

Nunca use productos de limpieza para el motor o

para el carburador en el estanque del combustible

pues se pueden producir daSos permanentes.

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

AI hacer arrancar el motor por la primera vez o

si se ha acabado el combustible del motor, se

necesitar& tiempo para el arranque extra para

mover el combustible desde el estanque hasta

et motor°

1o Asegurese que el control de rueda libre este

en ta posici6n enganchada.

2. Si6ntase en el siil6n en ta posici6n de oper-

aci6n, suelte el pedal det freno y ponga el

freno de estacionamiento.

3. Mueva el embrague det accesorio a la

posici6n desenganchado disengaged,

4o Mueva el control de la aceleraci6n a la

posici6n de r&pido.

5o Tire el control de estrangulaci6n a la posici6n

de estrangulaci6n para el arranque de un

motor frlo, Para el arrancar un motor caliente

el uso det control de la estrangutaci6n puede

que no sea necesario.

AVISO: Antes de arrancar, lea las instrucciones

siguientes para el arranque en clima frio y tem-

ptadoo

6. Inserte la Ilave en la ignici6n y gire la llave

en el sentido que giran las manillas del reloj

a la posici6n de arranque start, y suelte ia

llave tan pronto como arranque el motor. No

tlaga funcionar el arrancador continuamente

por m&s de quince segundos por minutoo Si

el motor no arranca despu6s de varios intern

tarlos, mueva el control de la estrangulaci6n

hacia adentro, espere unos cuantos minutos y

trate de nuevo. Si el motor sigue sin funcionar,

estire del control de la estrangulaci6n y trate

de nuevo.

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO TEMPLADO (50°/0°C

Y M,&,S)

7. Cuando arranque el motor, empuje el control

de la estrangulaci6n hasta que el motor emp-

iece a funcionar m&s suavemente, Si el motor

empieza a funcionar rnal, estire del control de

la estrangulaci6n un poco por unos cuantos

segundos y entonces continu# a empujar

lentamente el control°

. Los accesorios y el embrague de suelo ahora

ARRANQUE CON TIEMPO FniO (50°/0°C Y

MENOS)

7. Cuando arranque el motor, empuje lentamente

el control de la estrangulaci6n hacia adentro

hasta que el motor empiece a funcionar

suavemente, Siga empuj&ndolo poco a poco

permitiendo que el motor acepte pequeflos

cambios de velocidad y carga, hasta que este

completamente hacia adentro. Si el motor

empieza a funcionar mal, estire del control de

la estrangulaci6n un poco pot unos cuantos

segundos y continue a empujar el control hacia

adentro_ Esto puede requerir que el motor se

caliente pot unos cuantos minutos, depende

de ta temperatura.

CALENTAMIENTO PARA LA TRANSMtSION

AUTOMATtCA

Antes de conducir la unidad en un tiempo fifo, la

transmisi6n debe ser calentada como las instruc-

clones siguientes:

I. Asegt3rese que el tractor este situado en una

superficie niveladao

2+ Alivie el freno de estacionamiento y deje que

el freno vuelva a fa posici6n de operaci6n,

3. Permita que la transmisi6n se caliente durante

un minuto, Esto puede ser echo durante el

tiempo de catentamiento del motor,,

.Los accesorios pueden set utilizados durante el

periodo del recalentamiento del motor despu6s

que la transmisi6n halla sido calentada y puede

requerir que el control de la estrangulaci6n sea

estirado un poco.

AVISO: Si se encuentra a mucha altura (sobre

3000 pies) o en clima frfo (por debajo de 32°F

[0°C]), ta mezcla del combustible del carburador

debe ser ajustada para el mejor rendimiento det

motor. (Vea "PARA AJUSTAR EL CARBURA-

DOR" en la secci6n de Servicio y Ajustes de

este manual).

PURGAR LA TRANSMISION

_lbPRECAUCl6N: Nunca enganche o desen-

ganche la palanca det control de rueda libre

cuando et motor esta funcionando.

Para asegurar la operaci6n y ejecuci6n adecuada,

es recomendado que la transmisi6n sea purgada

antes de operar el tractor para la primera vez.

Este proceso remover& cualquier aire adentro

de la transmisi6n que se hatla formado durante

el transporte de su tractor.

IMPORTANTE: Si por acaso su transmisi6n debe

ser removida para servicio o reemplazo, debe

ser purgada despu6s de fa reinstalaci6n y antes

de operar el tractor,

1. Para mayor seguridad, ubique el tractor en

una superficie nivelada, despejada de cual-

quier objeto y abierta, con el motor apagado

y el freno de mano puesto.

2,. Desenganche la transmisi6n poniendo el

control de rueda libre en la posici6n de desen-

ganchado (Vea "PARA EL TRANSPORTE" en

esta secci6n de este manual)°

3_ Sentado en el asiento del tractor, empiece

e! motor. DespuSs que este corriendo el mo-

tor, mueva el control de estrangulaci6n a la

posici6n de lento. Con la palanca de rueda

libre en fa posici6n de neutral, desenganche

lentamente el embrague/el freno del pedal.

_PRECAUCI6N: En el transcurso del paso 4,

puede que de pronto se pongan en movimiento

las ruedas,

4. Mueva la palanca del control de movimiento

a la posici6n total de adelante y suj6tela du-

rante cinco (5) segundos. Mueva la palanca

hacia la posici6n total de marcha atr&s y

suj6tela durante cinco (5) segundos. Repita

este proceso tres (3) veces.

5. Mueva ta palanca del control de movimiento

a la posici6n de neutro. Apague el motor y

embrague el freno de estacionamiento.

6, Enganche la transmisi6n poniendo el control

de rueda libre en la posici6n de conducir (Vea

"PARA TRANSPORTAR" en esta secci6n del

manual).

7_ Sentado en el asiento del tractor, empiece el

motor. Despu_s que este corriendo el motor,

mueva el control de estrangulaci6n media

(1/2) velocidad. Con la palanca de control

de movimiento a la posici6n de neutro, len-

tamente desenganche el embrague/el freno

del pedal.

8. Mueva lentamente la palanca de control de

movimiento hacia adelante, despu6s que el

tractor se mueva aproximadamente cinco (5)

pies, mueva lentamente con la palanca de

control de movimiento a la posici6n contraria.

DespuSs que el tractor se mueva aproxima-

damente unos cinco (5) pies vuelva a porter

la palanca de control de movimiento en Ia

posici6n de neutro. Repita este procedimiento

la palanca de control de movimiento tres (3)

veceso

Su transmisi6n esta ahora purgado y dispuesto

para la operaci6n normal,

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

" No se pueden usar ias cadenas para las llantas

cuando la caja de la segadora est& adjunta al

tractor.

* La segadora debe estar nivelada en forma

adecuada para obtener ef mejor rendimiento

al segaro Vea "PARA NIVELAR LA CAJA DE

LA SEGADORA' en la secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual.

• El lado izquierdo de la segadora se debe usar

para recorteo

, Maneje de modo que los recortes se descarguen

en el &rea que ya ha sido cortada. Mantenga

el Area de code a la derecha del tractm Esto

producir& una distribuci6n m&s pareja de los

recortes y un corte m&s uniforme,

• AI segar las &rea grandes, empiece girando a

la derecha de modo que los recortes se des-

carguen, alej_,ndose de los arbustos, cercos,

entradas de autom6viles, etc. DespuSs de una

o dos vueltas, siegue en la direcci6n opuesta,

haciendo virajes a la izquierda, hasta que

termine.

• Si el c_sped est& demasiado alto, se debe

segar dos veces para reducir la carga y los

posibles peligros de incendio debido a los

recortes secos. Haga el primer torte relativa-

mente alto; el segundo a la altura deseada,

• No siegue el c_sped cuando est,. mojado. El

c6sped mojado taponar& la segadora y dejarA

montones indeseables. Permita que se seque

el c6sped antes de segarlo.

• Stempre opere el motor con una aceleraci6n

la garantia, el operador tiene que mantener la

segadora segUn las instrucciones descritas en

este manuat,

Hay atgunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer en

forma peri6dica para poder mantener su tractor

adecuadamente.

si es necesario efectuar los adjustes descritos

en las secciones de Servicio y Ajustes de este

manual..

•Una vez al a6o, carnbie la bujia, limpie o cam-

bie el filtro de aire y revise si las cuchillas y las

y un filtro de aire limpio aseguran una mezcla

de aire-combustible adecuada y le ayudan a

que su motor funcione mejor y que dure rnas.

LLANTAS

• Mantengatodos los neum&ticos con la presi6n de

aire adecuada (Vet la PSI que se indica en estos),

. Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasolina, aceite o

substancias quimicas para control de insectos

que pueden daSar la goma.

• Evite los tocones, las piedras, tas grietas pro-

fundas, los objetos afilados y otros peligros que

pueden daSar a las Ilantas.

AVISO: Para arreglar tas Ilantas pefforadas

y p_ra prevenir que tenga llantas pinchadas a

causa de pequefias fugas, puede comprar el

selio para Ilantas de su comerciante de partes de

repuesto m&s cercanoo Elsetlo previene que las

llantas se sequen y tambi6n la corrosi6n,

SISTEMA PRESENCIA OPERADORY SISTEMA

FUNClONAMIENTO ATR_,S (ROS)

Asegurarse de que el sistema de presencia del

operador y e! sistema funcionamiento atr,_s fun-

cionen bien, Si tu tractor no funci6n como descrito,

reparar el problema inmediatamente.

• El motor no arrancar#, si el pedal de embra-

gue/freno est& completamente presionado y

el mando de! embrague del accesorio est&

desconectado:

rruptor de Ilave del sistema de funcionamiento

atr&s (ROS) en la posici6n "ON" y el embrague

del accesorio conectado, cualquier tentativa del

operador de viajar marcha atr&s, NO apagar_

el motor,

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener resultados 6ptimos, las cuchiIlas de

la cortadora deben estar afiladas. Reemplace las

cuchillas que est6n gastadas, dobladas o daFtadas,

REMOCl6N DE LA CUCHILLA

1. Levante la segadora a su posici6n m&s alta

para permitir el acceso a las cuchillas.

AVISO: Proteja sus manos con guantes yio

envuelva la cucfqilla con una tela gruesa.

2o Remueva el perno de la cuchilla dandote

vueltas en el sentido inverso al de las agujas

del reloj,.

3o Instale la nueva cuchilla con el estampado

"THIS SIDE UP" en la direccion de la sega-

dora y del conjunto del mandril.

IMPORTANTE: Para asegurar la instalacion ap-

ropiada, posicione el agujero central de la cuchilfa

con la estrella del conjunto del mandril.

4, Instale y apriete el pemo de la cuchifla firme-

mente (Par 45-55 pies/libras).

IMPORTANTE: El pemo especial de la cuchilla

BATERiA

Su tractor cuenta con un sistema de carga de la

bater{a que es suficiente para el uso normal Sin

embargo, si se carga ta bater{a peri6dicamente,

con un cargador de autom6viles, se profongar&

•Mantenga la bater{a y los terminales limpios..

• Mantenga los pernos de la bateria apretados.

• Mantenga los agujeros de ventilaci6n peque-

5os abiertos.

• Vuelva a cargar de 6-10 amperes por 1 hora.

AVISO: La bateria del equipo original de su

tractor no becesita servicio. No intente abrir o

remover las tapas o cubiertas. No esnecesario

aSadir o verificar el nivel del electr61ito.

PARA LIMPIAR LA BATERiA Y LOSTERMtNALES

La corrosi6n y la mugre de fa bateria y de los

terminales pueden producir "escapes" de potencia

en la bated&

1, Remueva la protecci6n de los terminales.

2. Desconecte el cable de la bateria NEGRO

primero y tuego el cable de la bateria ROJO

y remueva la bateria del tractor.

3. Enjuague ia bateria con agua corriente y

s6quela.

4. Limpie los terminales y los extremes del cable

de la bateria con un cepillo de alambre haste

que queden briltantes

5. Cubra tos terminales con grasa o parafina.

Bateria" en la secci6n de SeP¢icio y ajustes

ENFRIAMIENTO DEL TRANSEJE

Las atetas de enfriamiento y el ventilador de la

transmisi6n tienen que mantenerse limpios para

asegurar el enfriamiento adecuado..

No trate de limpiar el ventilador o la transmisi6n

cuando el motor est6 funcionando o mientras la

transmisi6n est6 caliente.

• tnspeccione el ventilador de enfriamiento para

asegurarse que las aspas del ventilador est6n

intactas y limpias.

• inspeccione las aletas de enfriamiento para

verificar si hay mugre, recortes de c6sped u

otros materiates. Para impedir dares a tas

juntas, no use un rociador de aire compresado

o de alta presi6n pare limpiar las aletas de

enfriamiento

TRANSEJE

E! transeje ha side sellado en ta f&brica y el

mantenimiento del fluido no es necesario para la

vida del transeje. En el case de que el transeje

se filtrase o necesitase servicio, haga el favor de

ponerse en contacto con un centre de sepAcio

CORREAS V

Revise las correas V para verificar si existe

deterioro y desgaste despu6s de 100 horas de

operaci6n y c&mbielas si es necesario. Las cor-

reas no son ajustables. Cambie las correas si

empiezan a deslizarse debido al desgaste.

LUBRICACION

Use solamente aceite de detergente de alta

calidad clasificado con la clasificaci6n SG-SL de

servicio APIo Seleccione la calidad de viscosidad

del aceite SAE segQn su temperature de oper-

aci6n esperada.

AVISO: A pesar de que los aceites de multivis-

cosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran el arranque

en clime frio, estos aceites de muttiviscosidad van

a aumentar el consume de aceite cuando se usan

en temperaturas sobre 32° F (0° C). Revise et

nive! del aceite del motor m&s a menudo, para

PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEtTE DEL MOTOR

Determine la gama de fa temperatura esperada

antes de cambiar el aceite. Todo el aceite debe

cumplir con la clasificaciSn de servicio API SG-SLo

• Aseg[3rese que el tractor est6 en una superficie

nivelada.

• El aceite se drenar_ m_s f&cilmente cuando

est6 caliente.,

• Recoja el aceite en un envase adecuado

1. Remueva la tapa!varilta indicadora de nivel

8. Use un medidor en la tapa/varilla indicadora

del nivel pare relleno del aceite para reviser el

nivelo Para la lectura exacta, inserte la varilla

hacia abajo firmemente en su sitio antes de

quitarla,, Mantenga el aceite hasta, pero no en-

cima, de ia marca de Ileno "FULE' de la varilla

Cambie el fillro de aceite del motor cada tempo-

rada a vez par medio que cambie et aceite, si el

tractor se usa m,_s de 100 horas en un aSoo

Rejilla de Aire Limpie el desperdicio y los

escombros

FILTRO DE AIRE

Su equipo no funcionar& correctamente si el filtro

de aire est& sucio. Cada 25 horas de funciona-

miento o en cada temporada, reemplace el pre

limpiador; y el cartucho donde vlene el papel

[service paper cartridge] reempl&celo cada 100

horas de operaci6n o en cada temporada, segfln

et momento en el que primero ello sea necesaria.

Lo que ocurre con mayor probabilidad es que el

limpiador del sepJicio de aire est6 sucio..

1,. Hale hacia arriba la manivela de la cubierta

del filtro de aire y h&gala girar en el sentido

en el que gira el equipo.

2. Quite la cubieda,

3. Con mucho cuidado, quite el cartucho de! filtro

de aire yet pre limpiadar de la base°

4. Limpie la base con mucho cuidada para evitar

que caiga ninguna particula en el carburadon

NOTA: Si el cartucha est& muy sucio o dafiada,

reempl_,celo.

5o Coloque firmemente en la base el nuevo pre

iimpiador y el nuevo cartucho,

6. Alinee lasaletas dela cubiertacon las ranuras de

lacajuela del aire y co!oque lacubierta de nuevo.

7o Enganche la manivela en la cubierta y empuje

hacia abajo la manivela para cerrar.

IMPORTANTE: Para limpiar el cartucho no se

pueden usar sotventes derivados del petrSleo,

coma el keroseno, porque pueden deteriorar el

cartuchoo No engrase el cartucho; ni use aire a

presi6n para limpiarlo.

LIMPIEZA DE LA REJILLA DE AIRE

La rejilla de aire debe mantenerse sin mugre y

paja para evitar el dafio al motor debido al sobre-

calenlamiento. Limpiela con un cepillo de alambre

o con aire comprimido para remover la mugre y

las fibras de goma secas, pegadas_

SISTEMA DE ENFRIAMIENTO DE AIRE

Los escombros pueden atascar el sistema de en-

friamiento de aire de moron Remueva Ia cubierta

del soplador y limpie el &rea mostrada para evitar

el recalentamiento y daflos at motor,

SILENClADOR

Inspeccione y cambie el silenciador corroldo y el

amortiguador de chispas (si viene equipado) pues

pueden crear un peligro de tncendio y/o dafios_

BUJiA(S)

Cambie las bujia(s) al comienzo de cada tem-

porada de siega o despu6s de cada 100 horas

de operaci6n, 1oque suceda primero. El tipo de

bujia y el ajuste de la abertura aparecen en "ES-

PECIFICACIONES DEL PRODUCTO" secci6n

de este manual.

FILTRO DE COMBUSTIBLE EN LINEA

El fittro de combustible debe cambiarse una vez

cada temporada_ Si el filtro de combustible se

tapona, obstruyendo et ftujo del combustible hacia

el carburador, es necesafio cambiarloo

1o Con el motor fr[o, remueva el filtro y tapone

las seccianes de la linea de combustible.

2_ Ponga el filtro de combustible nuevo en su

posici6n en la Ilnea de combustible con la

flecha seflalando hacia el carburadon

3. Asegfirese de que no hayan fugas en la

linea del combustible y que las grapas est6n

colocadas en forma adecuada°

4,, tnmediatamente limpie toda la gasolina der-

No recomendamos que se utilice una mangue-

ra de jardin o agua a presi6n para limpiar el

tractor a no ser que el motor y la transmisi6n

PUERTO DE LAVADO DE LA CUB1ERTA

La cubierta de su tractor est& equipada con un

puerto de lavado sobre la superficie que forma

parte del sistema de lavado de Eacubierta, Se de-

beria utilizar cada vez que se haya usado el tractor.

Lleve et tractor a un lugar horizontal y

despejado de su c_sped, Io bastante cerca

de una boca de riego como para que llegue

la manguera del jardin,

IMPORTANTE: AsegSrese de que ta boca de

descarga del tractor est& orientada LEJOS de

su casa, garaje, coches aparcados, etc_ Quite

la boca de ensacado o cubierta de mantillo si

est#, acoplada.

2. Asegurese de que ta toma de fuerza (en-

granaje de la hoja) no est,. conectada, ponga

elfreno de estacionamiento y apague el motor.

3o Enrosque el adaptador de la boquilta (empa-

quetado con el manual del operador del trac-

tor) en el extremo de la manguera del jardin.

4.. Eche hacia atrb,s la abrazadera de cierre del

adaptador de la boquilla y empuje 6ste en el

puerto de lavado de la cubier_a en el extremo

izquierdo de la cubierta de la segadora.

palanca de aceleraci6n en la posici6n "Fast"

(r&pido).

IMPORTANTE: Vuefva a comprobar la zona para

asegurarse de qua est& despejadao

7. Ponga la toma de fuerza del tractor (engrana-

je de la hoja) en la posici6n ON. Mant6ngase

en la posici6n del operador con la cubierta

de carte acoplada hasta que la cubierta est6

limpiao

8. Ponga la toma de fuerza del tractor (en-

granaje de la hoja) en la posici6n OFF, Gire

la ltave de encendido a la posici6n STOP para

apagar el motor del tractor. Cierre la llave del

aguao

9, Tire hacia atr&s la abrazadera de cierre del

adaptador de la boqullla para desconectar el

adaptador del puerto de lavado de la cubierta.

10, Lleve el tractor a una zona seca, preferente-

mente de cemento o pavimentadao Conecte la

toma de fuerza de la cubierta de ta segadora

para quitar el exceso de agua y ayudar a que

se seque antes de guardar el tractor.

PARA DESMONTAR LA CORTADORA

DE ClaSPED

t. Suelte el embrague poni6ndolo en la posici6n

"DISENGAGED" ("DESACTIVADO").

2. Baje la palanca elevadora de montaje a la

posici6n de m_s abajo.

3. Ruede la correa de polea del motor (M) y

fijadors de la correa (G)o

4. Retire el resorte de sujeci6n (K), destice la

abrazadera (L) hasta quitarla, y saque a

presi6n la guia de la caja (P) hasta que se

salga del soporte,

5. Retire el resorte del cable del embrague (Q)

de! brazo del engranaje (R)_

6. Desconecte la pieza de uniSnanterior (E) de

la cortadora - retire el resorte de contenci6n

y la arandela.

7o Por uno de Ios lados de la cortadora,

desconecte e! brazo de suspensi6n de la

cortadora (A) del chasis y la pieza de uni6n

posterior' (C) de la barra posterior de la cor-

tadora (D) - retire los resortes de contenci6n

y las arandelas.

CUIDADO: Una vez que se desconecten las

piezas de uni6n posterjores, la palanca elevadora

funcionar_ a resorter Sujete con fuerza la patanca

elevadora al cambiarla de posici6n,,

8. Deslice la cortadora por debajo del lado

derecho del tractor°

IMPORTANTE: Si se monta un accesorio difer-

ente del cortac6sped al tractor, hay que quitar

el estribo frontal (E) y los estribos traseros de

elevaci6n (C) del tractor y enganchar el resorte

de embrague (Q) en la guia del cable en el horde

frontal del salpicadero m&s bajo,,

INSTALE LA SEGADORA

Aseg_rese de que el tractor se encuen[re en una

superficie nivelada, y ponga el freno de manoo

t. Haga descender la palanca elevadora a su

_posici6n m&s baja.

CUIDADO: La palanca elevadora funciona

a resorte, Suj6teta con fuerza, h&gala descender

lentamente y tr&nquela en la posici6n mAs baja.

9, Retire el resorte de sujeci6n (K), deslice la

abrazadera (L) hasta quitarla, y saque a

presi6n la guia de la caja (P) hasta que se

salga del soporteo

10, Instale la correa pasb,ndola por encima de la

polea del motor (M) y fijadors de la correa

(G).

6o FIJE LA PIEZA DE UNION ANTERIOR (E)

- Trabaje por el lado izquierdo del tractor.

]ntroduzca el extremo de la barra de la pieza

de uni6n por el orificio anterior de la barra de

suspensi6n anterior del tractor (F).

7. lntroduzca el otro extremo de la pieza de

uni6n (E) en el orificio que se encuentra en

la barra anterior de la cortadora (H), y fijelo

por medio de una arandela y un resorte de

contenci6n (J).

8o Retire el resorte del cable del embrague (Q)

del brazo del engranaje (R).

IMPORTANTE: Verifique que la correa encaje

bienen todas Ias ranuras de las poteas de la

cortadora.

1I. Suba la palanca elevadora a la posici6n de

m&s arriba.

12. Si es necesario, ajuste las rueditas del calibre

antes de poner en funcionamiento la corta-

dora, como se ilustra en el capitulo de Manejo

de este manual.

PARA NIVELAR LA SEGADORA

Asegurese de que los neum&ticos est_n inflados

a la PSI que se indica en estos. Si est_n de-

masiado inflados o poco inflados, el c_sped no le

tado, las cuchillas de la cortadora deben ajustarse

de tal manera que la punta anterior quede 1/8" a

cortadora se encuentre en su posici6n m,_s atta

2 Aseg_rese las correas esten en todas las

ranuras de las peleas y al interior todas las

guias de la correa.

DESMONTAJE DE LA CORREA

1o Desmonte la cortadora (Ver"PARA DESMON-

TAR LA CORTADOR_' en este capitulo del

manual),

NOTE: Observe toda la correa de transmisiSn y la

posiciSn de todas ias guias y guardacorreas.

2. Retire la correa del pi55n estacionario (A) y

del pi55n de embrague (B).

3. Retire la correa det pi55n central (C)o

6, Jale el cable de la correa hacia la parte de

atr&s det tractor. Con mucho cuidado, retire

la correa de la polea de entrada de la trans-

misiSn, movi_ndola hacia arriba y pas&ndola

pot encima de las paletas del ventitador (D).

4. Retire la correa de la polea del motor movi_-

ndola hacia abajo (E).

5. Destice la correa hacia ta parte de atr&s del

tractor, retirela de ta place de direcciSn (F) y

quitela del tractor.

CONTROLAR Y AJUSTAR EL FRENO

Si et tractor exige m&s de cinco (5) pies pare

pararse a una velocidad m&s afta en el cambio

rn&s alto en una superficie nivelada de hormig6n

seco o pavimentada, entonces se debe controtar

y ajustar el freno.

CONTROL DEL FRENO

1 Aparcar el tractor en una superficie nivelada

de hormig6n seco o pavimentada, presionar

el pedal del freno hasta el rondo y accionar

el freno de estacionamiento.

2o Desembragar la transmisi6n colocando el

mando de la rueda libra en la posici6n "trans-

misiSn desembragada". Tirar el mando de la

rueda libra fuera y dentro la ranura y soltar

asi se coloca en la posici6n desembragada°

Las ruedas traseras tiene que bloquearse y pa-

tinar cuando se intenta empujar hacia adelante

e! tractor manuafmente. Sustituir las zapatas det

freno o contactar con Sears o con un otto centro

de servicio cualificado_

La impresi6n e inclinaci6n de las ruedas delan-

teras de su nuevo tractor vienen as] de fb,brica y

que se produzca algL]n dafio que afecte la im-

presi6n o la inclinaci6n de las ruedas delanteras

tal como vinieron de f&brica, p6ngase en contacto

con un centro de servicios Sears u otto centro de

REGULACI6N DE LA PALANCA DE CONTROL

DEL MOVIMIENTO NEUTRO DEL CAMBiO

MECANICO

La paIanca de control del movimiento del cam-

bio mec_.nico ya viene predefinida por la Casa

constructora y por Io tanto no requiere utter]ores

regulaciones.

1. Aflojar ligeramente el perno de regulaci6n en

ia parte anterior de la rueda posterior derecha;

2. Poner en marcha el motor y mover la palanca

de control det movimiento del cambio mec&ni-

co hasta Ilevarfa en una posici6n en la que no

se pueda mover ni adelante ni atr&s;

3, Mantener la palanca de control de! movi-

miento del cambio mec#.nico en esta posici6n

y apagar el motor;

4, Manteniendo la palanca en la posici6n arriba

indicada aflojar el perno de regufaci6n;

5, Mover Ia palanca de control def movimiento

en posici6n neutro (cierre met#,lico);

6, Enroscar bien el perno de regulaci6n.

AVISO: Desplazar el piano de trabajo de la sega-

dora hasta la posici6n m&s baja para aumentar el

juego al fin de acceder al perno de regulaci6n.

Si el tractor sigue deslizb,ndose adelante y atr&s,

despu_s de esta regulaci6n y con la palanca en

posici6n neutro, efectuar las operaciones indica-

das de seguida,,

1. Aflojar el pemo de regulaci6no

2. Mover la palanca de control del movimiento de

I/4o 1/2 pulgar en ladirecci6n dedeslizamiento.

& Enroscar bien el perno de regulaci6n,

4, Poner en marcha el motor y probarlo.

5, Si el tractor sigue deslizando, repetir las

operaciones arriba indicadas hasta alcanzar

los resultados deseadoso

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR CON

UNA BATERiA BAJA

,_ADVERTENCIA: Las bate rias de &cido-plomo

generan gases explosivos. Mantenga las chispas,

las llamas y los mater]ales para fumar alejados de

las baterias. Siempre use una protecci6n para los

ojos alrededor de las baterias.Si su bateria est,.

demasiado baja como para hacer arrancar el mo-

tor tiene que volverse a cargar. (Yea "Bateria" en

la secciSn de Mantenimiento de este manual)_

Si se usan "cables de empalme" para un arranque

de emergencia, siga este procedirniento:

IMPORTANTE: Su tractor esta equipado con un

sistema de 12 volts. El otro veh[culo tambi_n tiene

que tener un sistema de 12 volts. No use la bateria

de su tractor para hacer arrancar a otros vehiculos.

PARAADJUNTAR LOS CABLES DE EMPALME-

1. Conecte cada extremo del cable ROJO con

el terminal (A-B) POSITIVO (+) de cada

bateria, preocup&ndose de no hacer corto-

circuito en el chasis.

2. Conecte un extremo del cable NEGRO

con el terminal (C) NEGATIVO (-) de una

bateria completamente cargada.

3. Conecte el otro extremo del cable (D) NE-

GRO con un buena CONEXION A TIERRA

DEL CHASIS, alejado del estanque de

combustible y de la bated&

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipule el regulador

del motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la f&brica

para la velocidad del motor adecuadao Puede

ser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a una

velocidad por sobre el ajuste de alta velocidad de

la f#,brica. Si cree que la velocidad alta regulada

alta regulada del motor necesita ajuste, pongase

en contacto con un centro de servicio Sears o

con un otro centro de servicio cualificado, el que

cuenta con el equipo adecuado y la experiencia

para hacer los ajustes necesarios.

lnmediatamente prepare su tractor para el al-

macenamiento al final de la temporada o si el

tractor no se va a usar por 30 dias o m_,s.

_DVERTENCIA: Nunca almacene el tractor

con gasolina en el estanque dentro de un edificio

en donde los gases pueden alcanzar una llama

expuesta o una chispa. Permita que el motor se

enfrie antes de almacenarlo en cualquier recinto

privado.

TRACTOR

Cuando el tractor se va a almacenar por cierto

pedodo de tiempo, limpiela cuidadosamente,

quite toda la mugre, la grasa, las hojas, etc.

Gu_rdela en una _,rea limpia y seca,

1. Limpie todo el tractor (vea "LIMPIEZ/_' en la

secci6n de Mantenimiento en este manual)°

2 lnspeccione y cambie las correas, si es nec-

esario (vea las instrucciones para el cambio

de las correas en ta secci6n de Servicio y

Ajustes de este manual).

3. Lubriquelo, segSn se muestra en la secci6n

de Mantenimiento de este manual°

4. AsegQrese que todas las tuercas, los pernos y

los tornillos est6n sujetados en forma segura.

lnspeccione las partes movibles para verificar

si hay da_o, rotura o desgaste. C&mbielas si

es necesarioo

5. Retoque todas superficies pintadas oxidadas

o picadas; aplique lija antes de pintar.

BATERiA

• Cargue la batefla completamente antes de

guardarlao

• Despu_s de cierto periodo de tiempo en

almacenamiento, la bateria puede necesitar

volver a cargarse.

.Para ayudar a evitar la corrosi6n y las fugas de

potencia durante largos periodos de almace-

namiento, se deben desconectar los cables de

ta bateria y se debe timpiar cuidadpsamente

(vea "PARA L1MPfAR LA BATERIA Y LOS

TERMINALES" en la secci6n de Mantenimien-

tode este manual).

•Despu6s de limpiarla, deje los cables

desconectados y p6ngalos en donde no

puedan entrar en contacto con los terminales

de la bateria_

•Si se remueve la bateria del tractor para el

aimacenamiento, no la guarde directamente

sobre concreto o sobre superficies hSmedas_

MOTOR

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE

IMPORTANTE: Es important evitar que se for-

man depositos de goma en partes fundamen-

tales del sistema de combus-tible tales como el

carburador, el filtro del combustible, la manguera

del combustibles mezclados con alcohol

(conocido como gasohol o que tienen etanol o

metanol) pueden atraer humedad, to que con-

duce a la separaci6n y a Ia formaci6n de acudos

durante elalmacenamiento. La gasolina acidica

puede daSar el sistema de combustible de un

motor durante el periodo de almacenamientoo

rnarcha el motor y dej_.ndolo funcionar hasta

que el carburante termine el carburador est6

vacio,

• Nunca use los productos para limpieza del

carburador o del motor en el estanque de

combustible pues se pueden producir dafios

permanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la pr6xima

temporada_

AViSO: El estabilizador de combustible es una

alternativa aceptable para reducir a un minimo

la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en el com-

bustible durante et periodo de almacenamientoo

Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en et es_

tanque de combustible o en el envase para el

almacenamiento. Siempre siga la proporci6n de

mezcla que se encuentra en el envase del esta-

bilizador. Haga funcionar el motor por Io menos

10 minutos despu_s de agregar el estabilizador,

para permitir que 6ste Ilegue at carburador. No

vaciar ta gasolina det estanque de gasolina y el

carburador si se est& usando estabilizador de

combustible.

ACEITE DI=L MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con el motor' catiente) y cambielo

con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea "MOTOR" en la

secci6n de Mantenimiento" de este manuaL)

2, Vacie una onza de aceite a trav6s dei

agujero(s) de la bujia en el citindro(s),,

3, Gire la llave de ignici6n a la posici6n de '_kr-

ranque" (Start), por unos cuantos segundos

OTROS

• No guarde la gasolina de una temporada a la

otrao

.Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre en su

gasolina producir&n problemas.

•Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recinto

cerrado y cSbrala para protegerla contra el

polvo y la mugre_

• Cubra su unidad con un forro protector ad-

ecuado que no retenga la humedad No use

pl_stico. El pl&stico no puede respirar, lo que

permite la formaci6n de condensaci6n, Io que

producir_, la oxidaci6n de su unidad.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra el tractor mientras

el motor y ias areas de escape todavia estan

calientes.
