THE HIGH-VOLUME PRINT PRODUCTION SYSTEM OFFERING SPEED, QUALITY, AND ADVANCED FINISHING CAPABILITIES In order to maintain the daily production and management of mission-critical documents, an enterprise must constantly strive to achieve greater levels of productivity and efficiency. With its 85page-per-minute speed, high image quality, extensive documentfinishing capabilities, and seamless integration into customer networks, the Canon imageRUNNER 85 completes your everyday print applications with ease. The Canon imageRUNNER 85 is a high-speed, blackand-white production printer designed to handle the demands of large corporate department, data center, CRD, and print-on-demand environments. It joins an already distinguished group of high-performance networked office solutions available from Canon– the industry leader. Like its predecessors, the imageRUNNER 85 will impress you with its ease-of-use, high reliability, and innovative feature set, all of which allow you to look and perform your best…85 times a minute. Whether you want to replace a group of old desktop printers with a faster, networked device, migrate print volume from legacy line printers to a device with better image quality, or upgrade your current print-on-demand solution to a system offering increased document-finishing capabilities, the Canon imageRUNNER 85 is the ideal solution for all your printing needs. speed Maximum print performance, minimum effort. Fast Turnaround The imageRUNNER 85 continuously outputs print jobs at its rated speed of 85 impressions per minute—even while printing at high resolution, and when stapling and hole-punching finished documents. This ensures that jobs are completed on time, everytime. Outstanding Image Quality With 600 x 600 dpi print resolution that is interpolated to 2400 x 600 dpi, the imageRUNNER 85 delivers the exceptional image quality Canon customers have come to expect. Text, solids, and halftones are produced with remarkable clarity. Even the smallest digits are printed with precision, preserving the integrity of your data. Versatile Paper Supply A 4,150-sheet paper supply comes standard on the imageRUNNER 85, enabling it to handle most long-run continuous print jobs. An optional 3,500-sheet paper deck can be added, boosting overall paper capacity to an unbelievable 7,650 sheets. Automatic paper tray switching and on-the-fly paper reloading further optimize production throughput. With up to six on-line paper sources available at a time, users have the flexibility to select a number of output choices. The imageRUNNER 85 handles paper sizes from statement to ledger, and offers support for specialty stock, such as labels, transparencies, and tabs. The device can also support paper weights from 17 lb. Bond to 110 lb. Index from every on-line paper source–a musthave for jobs requiring heavy covers and inserts. With its generous paper supply, large number of paper sources, and wide range of acceptable paper weights, sizes, and stocks, the imageRUNNER 85 can handle the most demanding, highvolume print applications. Connectivity Without Complications Output that Speaks Volumes The imageRUNNER 85’s extensive finishing capabilities are what really set it apart from its competitors in the printer market. Three optional finishers are available, all of which are designed to enhance productivity and limit the number of steps required to complete print jobs. The imageRUNNER 85’s optional FinisherK1N and Finisher-K2N offer two trays to manage output from statement to 11” x 17.” Up to 3,000 sheets can be accommodated, enough to effectively handle even the longest print runs. Additionally, both finishers can staple up to 100 sheets in any corner of the page, or place two staples in either the left- or right-hand margin. The Finisher-K2N also offers holepunching in addition to stapling. Output can be automatically two- or three-hole punched, depending on paper size and orientation. For more extensive finishing requirements, the Saddle Finisher-K3N is another available option. Like the Finisher-K1N and Finisher-K2N, the Saddle FinisherK3N holds a maximum of 3,000 sheets in two trays. It offers 100-sheet single- and double-position stapling, two- and threehole punching, as well as saddle-stitched booklet-making as standard. The Saddle Finisher-K3N can also be equipped with the optional Document Insertion Unit-B1, Paper Folding Unit-C1, and Booklet Trimmer-A1. The Document Insertion UnitB1 allows preprinted stock to be merged with finished documents post-process. The Paper Folding Unit-C1 z-folds 11” x 17” documents so that they fit neatly within letter-sized output. And the Booklet Trimmer-A1 cleans up finished edges of saddle-stitched output. The imageRUNNER 85 offers two ways to connect to the network—the Canondesigned Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-B3 and the imagePASS-M1 Print Controller, jointly developed by Canon and Electronics For Imaging (EFI™). Both solutions enable 600 x 2400 dpi interpolated print resolution, and allow users to program imageRUNNER 85 system capabilities right from their desktops. Canon’s Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-B3 leverages the standard 250MHz processor built into each imageRUNNER 85 model. Using this Canon-customized processor, the Network Multi-PDL Printer Kit-B3 is best suited for text-intensive, everyday printing needs where PCL page description language makes up the bulk of jobs that are sent to the printer. Canon’s imagePASS-M1 Print Controller features an Intel® Mobile Pentium® III 500MHz processor and is designed to meet the needs of customers printing true Adobe® PostScript® files, complex graphics, and variable data output, as well as to support EFI utilities such as Fiery® FreeForm.™ quali The optional imagePASS-M1 Print Controller The optional Booklet TrimmerA1 trims the lead edge of saddle-stitched booklets. Booklet Trimmer-A1 Control Panel. Both solutions have been designed to integrate seamlessly with a customer’s existing network infrastructure, and come with a full suite of system utilities to simplify device installation and management. Point-and-click Operation One of the reasons why Canon is the leading provider of network-connected systems in the market today is because of its intuitive printer driver software. imageRUNNER 85 users will find that Canon’s graphical printer driver software is extremely easy to use, even if they have no prior experience using a network connected device. Through the printer driver software, users have immediate access to The optional Document Insertion Unit-B1 allows users to incorporate preprinted covers and inserts into output. ity Produce professionally finished documents with the click of a mouse. all imageRUNNER 85 output functions directly from their desktop. A dynamic image of the installed imageRUNNER 85 is displayed on the screen, indicating all available hardware options, paper sizes, and paper levels. If these attributes change over the course of the day, the driver is updated to reflect the changes so that users are aware of the latest device capabilities. More advanced capabilities of the driver include the ability to save frequently used print job parameters, add watermarks, and insert document annotations such as names, dates, and so on. Users can also save electronic forms and other frequently printed files to one of the imageRUNNER 85’s 100 Mail Boxes. And Canon’s Page Composer software, a make-ready tool that is embedded in the printer driver, allows imageRUNNER 85 users to view the page layout of a document prior to printing to ensure that their output will print as expected. Connectivity Software Simplified In addition to easy-to-use print drivers, all network print controllers ship standard with Canon’s Remote User-interface (UI) Software and NetSpot® Suite. The imageRUNNER 85 supports tab stock in its lower two paper trays. Using Canon’s Remote UI™ feature, a user can access device status and configuration, job status, address books, and more, simply by entering the IP address of the device using a standard web browser. Users can stop, start, or reprint jobs, and send images stored in Mail Boxes, all from a desktop PC, and with no additional software requirements. addition to basic installation support, NetSpot Console also notifies administrators of device status conditions such as low toner, paper jams, and others. What’s more, NetSpot Console is also capable of managing third-party printers complying with the standard Printer MIB, thereby consolidating network device management via one utility. To manage and track the progress of print jobs, Canon provides NetSpot Job Monitor. NetSpot Job Monitor runs as an automated task in the Windows® Systems Tray, and can be configured to report job conditions based on administrator or enduser preferences. A key feature of NetSpot Job Monitor is the ability to deliver end-ofjob notification to end-users. NetSpot Accountant* is an optional utility that is capable of providing comprehensive job tracking and analysis for cost-accounting and workflow optimization. Using NetSpot Accountant, network administrators can track all imageRUNNER 85 activities, and bill internal or external clients for device utilization. In addition to the NetSpot utilities mentioned, Canon also supplies plug-in modules for the most popular enterprisemanagement applications in use today. Supported applications include Microsoft® Management Console, CA-Unicenter, HP OpenView, Tivoli® NetView,® and BMC Patrol. Through these plug-ins, Canon permits easy management of imageRUNNER 85 systems—and other Canon networked devices—from directly within the enterprise-management system console. finishing Remote User-interface Canon’s NetSpot Suite consists of two standard software utilities, and one optional utility: NetSpot Console, NetSpot Job Monitor, and NetSpot Accountant. NetSpot Console is a web-based utility capable of installing Canon networked systems on most customer networks. In *Please check with your local Canon-authorized Dealer for availability.
