About this manual
Machines have much in common but there are differences because they can be mirrored, have different
colours or additional options. Therefore the machine on the pictures in this manual may be different.
This machine must be installed by a qualified technician.

2. General
To get the highest functionality for multi format finishers, SDD has designed a Rotator Transport Module
RTM6940 that is compatible with the HCS3 and for SDD Bookletmakers.
This rotator is specifically designed in order to improve processing speed in situations where the receiving
finisher needs to be fed short edge first.
With this concept it is proved again that more functionality does not necessarily mean the machine has to be
more complex to operate.
By support of the printer, it is possible to set the RTM in Auto mode. Which means that the printer can
readjust the RTM automatically from Bypass to Rotation mode and vice versa.
For example:
A4 and Letter are used with the Rotation mode
enabled while A3 and Ledger run in Bypass mode,
allowing finishers that can receive mixed jobs to run
at maximum speed with a minimum of operator
intervention.
The standard paper size is set up for A3/A4
paper. For adjustments of the paper size
consult a qualified technician.

4.

Operating
Before continuing the Basic operation make sure that the RTM is installed according to the RTM
Installation Manual.
The RTM can be installed directly to the printer, or to other SDD finishers that are already present,
and should always be placed directly in front of the finisher that requires paper to be fed short edge
first.
One of the following lines has to be checked off by the Service Specialist to notify the Operator:
The Printer does have the correct settings, so the RTM can run on Auto mode.
The Printer does not have the correct setting for the RTM to run on Auto mode, so the
RTM can only run on Manual mode.
This section explains how to use the RTM during normal operation.
After switching on the RTM it will operate in the Auto mode (automatically Rotation / Bypass)

4.1 Preparing the RTM
Prepare the printer / copier and finishing devices as described in their respective manuals.
Switch on the RTM, the printer / copier will self decide if the RTM runs in automatically Rotation or
Bypass mode
To check the Operation mode of the RTM, press the Mode control button 4A ▲ shortly;
- If the lights are flashing, then the RTM will operate in Auto mode.
- If the lights do not flash, then the RTM will operate in Manual mode.
For selecting a manual Bypass or Rotation mode, use the Mode control button for 5 or 10
seconds. The 5 and 10 second delays are there for preventing accidental mode changes.
(See next page for selecting the desired operating mode)
After changing the operation mode, always press the Mode control button "Up" to confirm "ready".
The RTM is now ready for use. Make sure to set up other finishing devices according to their
respective manuals.

4. Operating (continued)
4.2 Storage compartment
When you open the door you have access to the storage compartment. This compartment is to store
supplies and spare parts for the printing system and finishing devices to make sure they are within
reach.
See Chapter 1 ‘Safety’ for more information about how to use the storage compartment.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Storage compartment
To keep your supplies clean, dust off the inside of the RTM's storage compartment at least once every
month and clean it with a moist cloth (marked area):

5.2 Belts
When finished sets have a slight smear or dust on them, clean the RTM's belts with a moist cloth
(Marked area). The marked area below only marks the visible parts of the belts, turn the belts and make
sure to clean all belts carefully.

5. Maintenance (continued)
5.3 Rotator unit ball
Sheets / sets are rotated by clamping one corner. If a clearly visible dot appears on the paper, clean the
two sides of the Rotator unit balls.
If there is still a visible dot on the paper, the Rotator unit ball needs to be re-adjusted by a
qualified technician.

6. Problem solving
This chapter provides explanations of the status indicator light on the control panel and instructions for
troubleshooting the various problems that may occur during the operation of the RTM.

6.1 "Not Ready" indicator light
The "Not Ready" indicator light comes on if an error has occurred in the RTM, or in one of the finishers
placed behind the RTM.
Generally, "Not Ready" messages are displayed on all finishers before the finisher is having the error.
This means that when an error occurs, it must be solved on the finisher last in line first.
If no additional errors are detected in the RTM, and all errors in finishers behind the RTM are solved,
the RTM will automatically assume the "Ready" position, and will communicate correspondingly to the
printer or other finishers before the RTM.
In short, this means that errors only need to be solved when the SDD module is actually having the
error. All other modules will automatically detect when an error in another modules are cleared.
To clear the “Not Ready” status of the RTM, press the Mode control button 4A ▲ shortly;
After that, the “Not Ready” indicator light turns off and a green light will burn, depending on the
desired operating mode.

6.2 Clearing paper jams
1.

Open the top cover.

2.

Pull the upper transporter belts towards the paper in feed (see yellow arrows).
The jammed paper will move towards the paper output (see black arrow).
If paper does not move towards the paper output, pull it between the belts carefully.
After clearing a paper jam always check if the belts, including the drive belt (to the belt motor)
are in place.

3.

Close the top cover.
