equipment is a label that contains, among other information, the FCC registration
Number, Ringer Equivalence number (REN) and the Universal Service Order Code
(USOC). which is RJ-ttC, for this equipment. You must , upon request . provide this
information to your telephone company
The REN is useful to determine the quantity of the devices you may connect to your
telephone line and still have all of those device ring when your telephone number is
called. In most but not all areas, the sum of the RENs of all device connected to one line

INSTALLING YOUR FF930
Selecting the Installation Location
Do not place the FF930 where there is excessive heat or humidity (as in a
kitchen or bathroom). The Base Unit of your FF930 can be placed on a desk or
tabletop near a standard 120V AC outlet and telephone line jack, mounted on a
standard AT&T or GTE wall plate, or mounted directty on the well Keep the unit
away from devices that generate electrical noise (motors, fluorescent lighting.
etc).
Connection the Telephone Line
There are three types oi phone outlets:
' Modular
' 4-prong jack
’ Hard-wired
Modular Jack
Plug the telephone line cord lrom the Base into a standard modular Telephone
jack. I! you do not have a modularjack. contact local Telephone company for
iniormation on the installation of theses jacks.
4-prong Jack
An adapter (not included) is required The adapter plugs into the 4-prong jack
and the telephone line cord plugs into 0! these Jack.
Hard-wired jack
A modularjack converter (not included) is required, You may need to rewire
when connecting the converter (making color—coded connections)
"Your Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone dealer or a telephone supply store
can advise you on the proper adapter or converter.
CAUTION
‘ Never install a telephone during a Ilgtning storm.
' Never install telephone lacks in wet locations. unless the jack is specifically
designed for wet locations.
' Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line
has been disoonneded at the network interface.
' Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.

Desk or Tabletoe Installation

1 To connect the Desk/Wall mount bracket In the desk/table position, simply allgn
the bracket with the bracket slots on the base and slide in the unit until It is
ecurely in place.
2 Plug the AC adapter cont into the 9V DC meriack on the Base Unlt.
Thread the cord through the guides
3 Plug one end of the long telephone 00rd Into the TELEPHONE LlNEjack on the
Base Unit.
4 Raise the antenna on the Base Unit to the upright position,
5 Plug lhe other end of the telephone cord into the telephone wall jack.
6 Plug the AC Adapter Into a standard 120VAC wall outlet
Use only the AC Adapter supplied with the FF930.
Place the telephone and power cords where they wIIl not
create a trip hazard, or where they will not become
chafed and create a fire or other electrical
hazard

Wall Mountin
The FF930can be mounted on a standard wall plate If one is not available, it can
3 also be mounted on two screws (not included), installed 3‘14" vertically apart on
' the wall Leave 3/16" of each screw exposed for mounting the unit. See page 70
for template
1 To connect the Desk/Wall bracket In the wall mount position, simply
align me bracket with the slots on the base and slide in the unit until
it is securely in place.
2 Pull the top of the wall mount hook to hang the handset.
3 Plus the AC adapter cord into the DC power jack on the back of the unll.
4 Plug one end of the short telephone line oord into the TELEPHONE LINE jack on

5 Thread the AC adapter cord and telephone line card through the grooves in the
back of the unit. The card will exit from the bottom
DO NOT CONNECT THE AC ADAPTER TO THE WALL POWER OUTLETYEI'.
6 Plug the other end of the line cord into the telephone wall Jack
7 Positien the unit on the wall phone plate. The studs ol the wall phone plate
should be inserted into the slots on the base wall mount holest Pull down and
lock into place
8 Raise the antenna on the base unlt to the upright position
Use only the AC adapter supplied with the FF930
CHARGING HE HAN SET
Charging the Handset
Place the handset on the base to charge. In a desktop installation. the handset can either
be placed lace up or face down. but only face up in a wall mount installation.
For optimum battery performance
. Charge the new battery overnight before uslng your phone
. Do not let the battery become tully discharged.
. Be sure to return the Handset to the base at nlghtl
Replacing the Battery Pack
To install or replace the rechargeable battery. follow these steps:
1 Remove the Handset battery cover.
2 Remove the old banery.
3 Plug the new battery‘s cable Into the Handset.
The plastic connectors wlII fit together only one
way If you have dilfioulty. make sure the battery
oonnedor is properly aligned.
4 Replace the battery cover.

The speed dial memory and Caller ID memory will not be lost by battery
replacement.
Low Battery Indicator
When power in the handset Battery Pack is low and the battery pack to be charged. the
TALK button flashes and an alarm is sounded. if this occurs while you are on the phone,
you will also hear the alarm. Complete your call as quickly as possible. and return the
Handset to the Base Unit for charging. Allow 12 to 16 hours without any interruption for the
Handset to lully recharge,
Cleaning the Battery Contacts
To maintain a good charge, it Is Important to clean all battery contacts on the Handset and
Base Unit about once a month, Use a pencil a eraser or other contact deaner. Don not use
any liquids or solvents.

IMPORTANT: In order lor the Caller ID and answering machine to operate property,
Set the following functions BEFORE using the FF930.
1. Language Selection...choose the language that will be shown on the display
(English. Spanish, French).
2. Setting the Clook...announoes the day and time when playing back messages on
the answering machine.
3, Setting the Security Code...allows remote control of the answering machine with an
outside telephone.
4. Setting the LCD Display Contrast Level...adjust the dlsplay to one of three contrast
levels lor easy viewing.
5. Selfing the Local Area Code...a necessary setting for the proper operation of Caller
ID and MESSAGE CALL BACK'rpatent pendlng).
6. Recording your Greetings...record a personal greeting (or calls to hear before
leaving a message.
Language selection
The unit offers a choice of three LCD display languages: Englsh (the
default value). Spanish and French. Follow the Instructions below to
set your language choice.

Setting the Clock
When messages (both Incoming messages and your own memo messages)
are recorded. the day and time will be recorded at the beginning of each
message. if you have set the clock. This convenlent feature lets you know
exactly when your messages have been received.
Set the clock to Sunday at 9:35 am.

Setting the Remote Security Code
To access answering system tuncfions from an outside line. you will need to
enter the z-digii security code. The remote security code prevents
unauthorized persons from accessing your unit and listening to your
messages.
The remote security code is initially set to 12.
However. It can be changed,

The telephone number of the received caller ID data usually includes the
area code, even it it is a local call. The FF930 will automatically edit the
number to make it ‘Ready to use" before storing it in the caller list,

stored without me area code, and the long distance calls will be stored with

Setting the RINGER ON/OFF Control
If you wish to turn on the ringer. set the ringer switches on the side
at the handset and the back of the base to " OFF ".
The TALK button on the handset and the INvUSE LED on the base
will flash when a call is received
NOTE
The auto talk mode will work even when the ringer switch Is set to
OFF. The paging ringer will sound even when the ringer switch is
set to OFF.
There are three types of ring sounds:
. Incomlng call: Normal ring soundi
- Priority call ( VIP ): A diiierent ring sound that allows you to
distinguish the caller. To set this functlon. see " VIP (priority) ' on
