(FORWARD/REVERSE/CENTER The safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the tool and in this operator's manual as well as a knowledge of the project you are attempting. Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. Your tool has a direction of rotation (forward/reverse/ center lock) selector located above the switch trigger for changing the direction of bit rotation. Setting the switch trigger in the OFF (center lock) position helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use. BIT STORAGE LED WORKLIGHT Bits provided with the tool can be placed in the storage area, located on the base of the tool. The LED worklight, located on the front of the tool, illuminates when the switch trigger is depressed. This provides extra light for increased visibility. BLOWS PER MINUTE This tool features an impact speed of 0-3,500 blows per minute (BPM). Blows per minute is the number of impacts per minute. CHARGER The charger has a key-hole hanging feature for convenient, space-saving storage. Screws should be installed so that the center distance is 4-1/2 in. COUPLER MAGNETIC OF ROTATION SELECTOR LOCK} BIT HOLDER The magnetic bit holder extends the reach of the impact driver bit and holds the bit and screws until you are ready to drive them. VARIABLE SPEED The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure. Quickly and easily change bits without the need for tools. UNPACKING A This product has been shipped completely assembled. [] Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the box. Make sure that all items listed in the packing list are included. [] Inspect the tool carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping. A A A CHARGING WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you careless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict serious injury. [] Charge the battery pack only with the charger provided. [] Make sure the power supply is normal household voltage, 120 vo(ts, 60 Hz, AC only. [] Connect the charger to the power supply. [] Place the battery pack in the charger aligning raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the charger. See Figure 2. APPLICATIONS [] Press down on the battery pack to be sure contacts on the battery pack engage properly with contacts in the charger. You may use this tool for the purposes listed below: [] Driving long deck screws while building a deck [] Normally the red LED on charger will come on. This indicates the charger is in fast charging mode. [] Driving carriage bolts into deck posts [] Driving Tapcon screws into block walls and concrete [] Red LED should remain on for approximately 1 hour then the green LED will come on. Green LED on indicates battery pack is fully charged and charger is in maintenance charge mode. [] Driving screws into metal studs [] Driving nuts and bolts using an impact socket CAUTION: If at any point during the charging process none of the LEDs are lit, remove the battery pack from the charger to avoid damaging the product. DO NOT insert another battery. Return the charger and battery to your nearest Sears or other qualified service center for service or replacement. CHARGER NOTE: The green LED will remain on until the battery pack is removed from the charger or charger is disconnected from the power supply. [] If both yellow and green LEDs come on, this indicates a deeply discharged or defective battery pack. Allow the battery pack to remain in the charger for 15 to 30 minutes. When the battery pack reaches normal voltage range, the red LED should come on. If the red LED does not come on after 30 minutes, this may indicate a defective battery pack that should be replaced. OF CHARGER BE ON TO INDICATE AND BATTERY STATUS PACK NOTE: If the charger does not charge the battery pack under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Sears or other qualified service center for electrical check. WARNING: Do not use any attachments or accessories not recommended by the manufacturer of this tool. The use of attachments or accessories not recommended can result in serious personal injury. LED WILL BATTERY If battery pack is below normal temperature range, the green LED on charger will come on. Allow battery pack to reach normal temperature, then the red LED will come on. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating tools. Failure to do so could result in objects being thrown into your eyes, resulting in possible serious injury. LED FUNCTIONS A COOL OF PACK: [] Red LED on = Fast charging mode. BATTERYPACKIN CHARGER [] Green LED on = Fully charged and in maintenance charge mode. [] Green LED on = When battery pack is inserted into charger, indicates hot battery pack or that battery pack is out of normal temperature range. [] Yellow and Green LEDs on = Deeply discharged or defective battery pack. LEO [] No LED on = Defective charger or battery pack. CHARGING THE BATTERY Y PACK The battery pack for this tool has been shipped in a low charge condition to prevent possible problems. Therefore, you should charge it until the green LED on the front of the charger comes on. NOTE: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged. Allow several cycles (operation followed by recharging) for them to become fully charged. CHARGER 10 GREENLED Fig. 2 [] Afternormalusage,a minimumof 1 hourofcharging timeis required to fullyrecharge batterypack. [] Thebatterypackwill becomeslightlywarmto the touchwhilecharging.Thisis normalanddoesnot indicatea problem. [] Donot placethechargerandbatterypackin anarea of extremeheator cold.Theywillworkbestat normal roomtemperature. NOTE:Thechargerandbatterypackshouldbeplaced ina locationwherethetemperature is morethan50°F butlessthan100°R [] Whenbatteriesbecomefullycharged,unplugthe chargerfrompowersupplyandremovethebattery pack. CHARGING A HOT BATTERY TO INSTALL BATTERY PACK See Figure 3. [] Lock the switch trigger by placing the direction of rotation selector in the center position. [] Place battery pack in the tool. Align raised rib on battery pack with groove inside tool. Make sure the latches on each side of the battery pack snap into place and battery pack is secured in tool before beginning operation. CAUTION: When placing battery pack in the tool, be sure raised rib on battery pack aligns with the groove inside tool and latches into place properly. Improper installation of the battery pack can cause damage to internal components. PACK When using the tool continuously, the batteries in the battery pack will become hot. You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 30 minutes before attempting to recharge. When the battery pack becomes discharged and is hot, this will cause the green LED to come on instead of the red LED. After 30 minutes, reinsert the battery pack in the charger. If the green LED continues to remain on, return battery pack to your nearest Sears or other qualified service center for checking or replacing. NOTE: This situation only occurs when continuous use of the tool causes the batteries to become hot. It does not occur under normal circumstances. Refer to CHARGiNG A COOL BATTERY PACK for normal recharging of batteries. If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Sears or other qualified service center for electrical check. [] Remove battery pack from the tool. 11 A A CAUTION: To prevent gear damage, always allow the coupler to come to a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation. WARNING: Battery tools are always in operating condition. Therefore, switch should always be locked when not in use or carrying at your side. To stop the impact driver, release the switch trigger and allow the coupler to come to a complete stop. CAUTION: The metal surface may become hot during use. Avoid contact with it to avoid possible burn injury. SWITCH NOTE: The impact driver will not run unless the direction of rotation selector is pushed fully to the left or right. BUILT-IN COUPLER See Figure 5. TRIGGER See Figure 4. The tool has a built-in coupler. The coupler has been designed to accept 1/4 in. hex bits. To turn the tool ON, depress the switch trigger. To turn it OFF, release the switch trigger. VARIABLE SPEED See Figure 4. COUPLER The variable speed switch trigger delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure and lower speed with decreased trigger pressure. NOTE: You might hear a whistling or ringing noise from the switch during use. Do not be concerned; this is a normal part of the switch function. Fig. 5 LED WORKMGHT See Figure 6. The LED worklight, located below the coupler, illuminates when the switch trigger is depressed. This provides additional lighting on the surface of the workpiece for operation in lower-light areas. FORWARD \ SWITCH TRIGGER DIRECTION OF ROTATION (FORWARD/REVERSE/CENTER See Figure 4. Fig. 4 SELECTOR LOCK) The direction of bit rotation is reversible and is controlled by a selector located above the switch trigger. With the impact driver held in normal operating position, the direction of rotation selector should be positioned to the left of the switch trigger for driving. The driving direction is reversed when the selector is to the right of the switch trigger. LED WORKLIGHT Setting the switch trigger in the OFF (center lock) position helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use. 12 Fig. 6 BIT STORAGE REMOVING See Figure 7. Contact with a "live" wire will make exposed metal parts of the tool "live" and shock the operator. BATTERIES BATTERY The battery pack for this tool is equipped with nickelcadmium rechargeable batteries. Length of service from each charging will depend on the type of work you are doing. Local, state or federal laws may prohibit disposal of nickelcadmium batteries in ordinary trash. The batteries in this tool have been designed to provide maximum trouble-free life. However, like all batteries, they will eventually wear out. Do not disassemble battery pack and attempt to replace the batteries. Handling of these batteries, especially when wearing rings and jewelry, could result in a serious burn. Consult your local waste authority for information regarding available recycling and/or disposal options.
