WARRANTY STATEMENT

LIMITED ONE-YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN EDGER

For one year from the date of purchase, when this Craftsman Edger is maintained, lubri-

cated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructionsin the owner's

manual, Sears will repair, free of charge, any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Edger is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty applies for

only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This warranty does not cover the following:

• Expendable items which become worn during normal use, such as spark plugs, etc.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent crank shafts

and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions contained in the

owner's manual.

WARRANTY SERVICE IS AVAILABLE BY RETURNING THE CRAFTSMAN EDGER TO

THE NEAREST SEARS SERVICE CENTER/DEPARTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES.

er is used, it must be maintained in

effective working order by the op-

erator.

Safe Operation Practices for Edger.

WARNING: Look for this symbol to point out important safety precautions.

It means: "Attention! Become Alert! Your Safety Is Involved."

_ARNING: To prevent acciden-

tal starting when setting-up,

transporting, adjusting or mak-

ing repairs, always disconnect spark

plug wire and put wire where it cannot

contact the spark plug.

Before Use

•Read the owner's manual carefully. Be

thoroughly familiar with the controls and

the proper use of the Edger. Know how to

stop the Edger and disengage the controls

quickly.

• Do not operate the Edger without wearing

adequate outer garments. Wear footwear

that will improve footing on slippery sur-

faces.

• Keep the area of operation clear of all per-

sons, particularly small children and pets.

• Thoroughly inspect the area where the

Edger is to be used and remove all foreign

objects.

Fuel Safety

• Handle fuel with care; it is highly flam-

mable.

• Use an approved container.

• Check fuel supply before each use, allow-

ing space for expansion as the heat of the

engine and/or sun can cause fuel to ex-

pand.

• Fill fuel tank outdoors with extreme care.

Never fill fuel tank indoors. Replace fuel

tank cap securely and wipe up spilled fuel.

• Never remove the fuel tank cap or add fuel

to a running or hot engine.

• Never store fuel or Edger with fuel in the

tank inside a building where fumes may

reach an open flame.

Operating Safety

Never allow children or young teenagers to

operate the Edger. Keep them away while

it is operating. Never allow adults to oper-

ate the Edger without proper instruction.

Do not operate this machine if you are tak-

ing drugs or other medication which can

cause drowsiness or affect your ability to

operate this machine.

• Do not use this machine if you are mentally

or physically unable to operate this ma-

chine safely.

Always wear safety glasses or eye shields

during operation or while performing an

adjustment or repair to protect your eyes

from foreign objects that may be thrown

from the Edger.

• Do not put hands or feet near or under ro-

tating parts.

Exercise extreme caution when operating

on or crossing gravel drives, walks, or

roads. Stay alert for hidden hazards or

traffic.

Exercise caution to avoid slipping or falling.

Never operate the Edger without proper

guards, plates, or other safety protective

devices in place.

Never operate the Edger at high transport

speeds on slippery surfaces. Look behind

and use care when backing.

Never allow bystanders near the Edger.

Keep children and pets away while

operating.

Never operate the Edger without good visi-

bility or light.

Do not run the engine indoors. The ex-

haust fumes are dangerous, containing

CARBON MONOXIDE, an ODORLESS

and DEADLY GAS.

Take all possible precautions when leaving

the Edger unattended. Stop the engine.

Do not overload the Edger capacity by at-

tempting to till too deep at too fast a rate.

Safe Storage

• Always refer to the owner's manual instruc-

tions for important details if the Edger is to

be stored for an extended period.

Allow the engine to cool before storing in

Check all fasteners at frequent intervals for

proper tightness.

Repair /Adjustments Safety

If Edger should start to vibrate abnormally,

stop engine and check immediately for the

cause. Vibration is generally a warning of

trouble.

Stop the engine whenever you leave the

operating position. Also, disconnect the

spark plug wire before unclogging the

blade and when making any repairs, ad-

justments, or inspections.

When cleaning, repairing, or inspecting,

shut off the engine and make certain all

moving parts have stopped.

• After striking a foreign object, stop the en-

gine. Remove the wire from the spark plug,

and keep the wire away from the plug to

prevent accidental starting. Thoroughly in-

Figure 1 shows the Edger completely as-

sembled.

References to the right or left side of the

Edger are from the viewpoint of the opera-

tor's position behind the unit.

REMOVE THE EDGER FROM THE

CARTON

1. Remove the bottle of oil and parts bag

from the carton.

Cut down all four corners of the carton.

Remove the packing material positioned

around the front and rear of the unit.

Leave the packing material on the bot-

tom of the unit until the control rod is as-

sembled. This will keep the front wheel

in a stable position.

Lift the Edger out of the carton and place

on a hard level surface.

ASSEMBLY

HOW TO RAISE THE HANDLE

1. Loosen the knobs and raise the upper

handle to the upright position. See

Figure 2.

2. Tighten the knobs. Make sure the

knobs are to the outside of the handles

as shown in Figure 2.

3. Insert the end of the control rod, from

RIGHT to LEFT, through the hole in the

front wheel arm. Attach with hair pin

found in parts bag. See Figure 3.

4. Push down on the handle to tilt the unit

back.

5. Insert the other end of the control rod,

from RIGHT to LEFT, through the hole in

the depth control lever and fasten with

hair pin. See Figure 4.

6. Move the depth control lever forward to

the STARTING and TRANSPORT posi-

tion.

7. Remove any packing material from the

bottom of the unit.

8. To attach the recoil starter rope to the

rope guide, twist the recoil starter rope

through the rope guide. See Figure 5.

HOW TO PREPARE THE ENGINE

Fill With Oil

This Edger was shipped with a container of

SAE30 motor oil. Add this oil to the engine

before operating. To fill the crankcase, re-

move the oil fill cap/dipstick and add the

SAE30 motor oil. DO NOT OVERFILL.

NOTE: The engine may contain a small

amount of oil. When adding oil, frequently

insert the oil fill cap/dipstick and check

the amount of oil in the engine. DO NOT

OVERFILL.

Oil Recommendations

Only use high quality detergent oil rated with

API service classification SG. Select the oil's

SAE viscosity grade according to your ex-

pected operating temperature. Although mul-

ti-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, etc.) improve

starting in cold weather, these multi-viscosity

oils will result in increased oil consumption

when used above 40 degrees. Check the

engine oil level more frequently to avoid pos-

sible engine damage from running the en-

gine low on oil.

How To Add The Engine Oil

1. Put the Edger on a level surface.

2. Remove the oil fill cap (Figure 6).

3. Slowly fill the engine crankcase. DO NOT

OVERFILL.

How To Fill With Gasoline

Make sure that the gasoline container is

clean and free from dust or other foreign ma-

terial. Never use gasoline that could be stale

from long periods of storage.

1. Remove the fuel cap.

2. Fill the fuel tank with clean, fresh, un-

leaded grade automotive gasoline.

,_ WARNING: Always use a safety

fuel container. Do not smoke

when adding the fuel mixture to

the engine. When inside an enclosure,

do not fill the fuel tank. Before you add

the fuel mixture, stop the engine. Let the

engine cool for several minutes.

NOTE: ENGINES WHICH ARE CERTIFIED

TO COMPLY WITH CALIFORNIA AND US

EPA EMISSION REGULATIONS FOR

ULGE ENGINES, are certified to operate

on regular unleaded gasoline. Include the

following emission control system(s):

EM, TWC (if so equipped). Include any

user adjustable features - therefore no

other adjustments are needed.

following checklist before you operate the

Edger:

_' All assembly instructions have been

completed.

_' Check carton. Make sure no loose

parts remain in the carton.

_' All fasteners have been properly tight-

ened.

As you learn how to use the Edger, pay extra

attention to the following important items:

_'_' Engine oil is at proper level.

_'_' Fuel tank is filled with a fresh, clean,

regular Unleaded gasoline.

_'_' Become familiar and understand the

function of all controls. Before your

start the engine, operate all controls.

Primer Button - Injects fuel directly into

the carburetor for faster starts.

Recoil Starter Handle - The engine is

equipped with an easy pull recoil starter.

Depth Control Lever - Use to control the

depth of cut.

Blade Guard - Use to prevent stones or

other material from being thrown at the oper-

ator.

Engine Stop Lever- Must be engaged

to allow the engine to start and run. Re-

lease to stop the engine.

EYE PROTECTION

Always wear safety glasses. If you wear eye

glasses, put a Wide Vision Safety Mask over

your eye glasses.

the Edger can result in foreign

objects being thrown into the

eyes, which can cause severe eye dam-

age. Always wear safety glasses or eye

shields when operating the Edger.

OPERATION

3. Select the edging depth that you need.

There are three selections with an

approximately depth of two inches.

NOTE: For deep edging, first cut at shal-

low depths. Then, cut at greater depths

until the desired depth is obtained.

HOW TO USE

THE ENGINE STOP LEVER

1. Release the engine stop lever and the

engine and the blade will automatically

stop. To run the engine, hold the engine

stop lever in the operating position. See

Figure 8.

If the engine will not stop, hold a screwdriver

against the spark plug and against the en-

gine cooling fins. The spark will go to ground

and the engine will stop.

IMPORTANT: Before you start the engine,

operate the engine stop lever several

times. Make sure the engine stop cable

moves freely. If the engine stop cable is

bent or damaged, replace the cable. If the

problem continues, take the Edger to a

Sears Service Center to correct the prob-

lem.

HOW TO USE

THE PRIMER BUTTON

When starting a cold engine, push the prim-

er button three times (see Figure 9). Wait

approximately two seconds between each

push.

IMPORTANT: When starting a warm en-

gine, do not use the primer button.

OPERATION

HOW TO STOP THE ENGINE

To stop the engine, release the engine stop

lever.

If the engine will not stop, hold a screwdriver

against the spark plug and against the en-

gine cooling fins. The spark will go to ground

and the engine will stop.

HOW TO START THE ENGINE

_ARNING: When the engine

runs, the blade will rotate. To

prevent injury, keep hands and

feet away from blade.

IMPORTANT: Before you start the engine,

move the edger to the desired location. Op-

erate the controls several timer. Make sure

all controls move freely.

1. Check the oil.

2. Fill the fuel tank with regular unleaded

gasoline. Make sure the gasoline is

clean. Leaded gasoline will increase de-

posits and shorten the life of the valves.

NOTE: Do not use gasohol or methanol. Do

not use premium unleaded gasoline.

,_ WARNING: Always use a safety

gasoline container. Do not

smoke when adding gasoline to

the fuel tank. When inside an enclo-

sure, do not add gasoline. Before you

add gasoline, stop the engine and let

the engine cool for several minutes.

3. Make sure the spark plug wire is con-

nected to the spark plug.

4. Pull the engine stop lever back to the EN-

GAGED position. Hold the engine stop

lever against the handle.

5. When starting a cold engine, push the

primer button three times. Wait approxi-

mately two seconds between each push.

See Figure 10.

NOTE: Do not use the primer button to start

a warm engine.

6. To start engine, hold the recoil starter

handle firmly with your right hand.

7. Quickly pull the recoil starter handle. DO

NOT allow the starter rope to snap back.

Let the starter rope slowly rewind. If en-

gine fails to start after three pulls, push

primer button two times and again pull

the recoil starter handle.

8. If the engine does not start in 5 or 6 tries,

see the instructions in the "Trouble

Shooting Chart".

NOTE: The cutting blade speed is con-

trolled by the engine speed.

,_ WARNING: Never run the en-

gine indoors or in a poorly ven-

tilated area. Engine exhaust

contains carbon monoxide, an odorless

and deadly gas. Keep hands, feet, hair

and loose clothing away from any mov-

ing parts. Avoid the muffler and sur-

rounding areas. Temperatures can ex-

ceed 150 degrees.

OPERATION

EDGING TIPS

•Edging is best performed when conditions

are dry. If the soil is to wet, dirt becomes

packed around the blade causing prema-

ture belt wear and decreased perfor-

mance.

• If dirt does become packed around the

blade, stop the engine and remove the

wire from the spark plug. Remove the

packed dirt and debris from the blade.

• For deep edging, first cut at shallow

depths. Then, cut at greater depths until

the desired depth is obtained.

• For uniform edging, make sure the blade

guide rides on the surface.

• Edging can be customized by varying the

number of passes and by the distance the

blade is from the surface.

WARNING: Read the Owner's

Manual. Know location and

functions of all controls. Keep

all safety devices and shields in place.

Never allow children or uninstructed

adults to operate the Edger. Shut off en-

gine before unclogging blade or making

repairs. Keep bystanders away from ma-

chine. Keep away from the blade all ro-

tating parts, which cause injury.

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this Edger does not cover

items that have been subjected to operator

abuse or negligence. To receive full value

from the warranty, the operator must main-

tain the Edger as instructed in this manual.

Some adjustments must be made periodical-

ly to properly maintain your Edger.

All adjustments in the Service and Adjust-

ments section of this manual must be

checked at least once each season.

MAINTENANCE

LUBRICATION

After each 25 hours, apply a small amount of

engine oil to all moving parts, particularly the

wheels.

How To Change The Engine Oil

Change the oil in the engine crankcase after

each 25 hours of use.

NOTE: The oil will drain more freely when

the engine is warm.

1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the

spark plug.

2. Remove the oil drain plug (see

Figure 11). Drain the oil into a flat pan.

3. After draining all the oil, install and tight-

en the oil drain plug.

4. Remove the oil fill cap (see Figure 12).

Fill the engine crankcase. Pour slowly.

Do not overfill. See "Product Specifica-

tions" for amount and type of oil. Install

the oil fill cap.

5. Connect the spark plug wire to the spark

plug.

HOWTO CHANGETHEAIR FILTER

Replace the air filter once a year; more often

in dusty or dirty conditions.

NOTE: DO NOT clean or oil the air filter.

The air filter is not serviceable and must

be replaced.

1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the

spark plug.

2. Remove screw as illustrated (see

Figure 13).

3. Carefully remove air cleaner to prevent

dirt from falling into carburetor.

4. Take air cleaner apart and clean all

parts.

5. Re-install clean and oiled (or new and

oiled) Oil-Foam® element and cup in air

cleaner body. Lip of element must ex-

tend over edge of body.

6. Install air cleaner on carburetor. Tighten

7. Connect the spark plug wire to the spark

plug.

CAUTION: Never run the engine without

the air filter. A defective air filter will

cause a loss of engine power. If dirt or

dust enters the engine through the carbu-

retor, the result will be excessive wear or

damage to the engine. Replace a dam-

aged or clogged air cleaner immediately.

MAINTENANCE

SPARK PLUG

Check the spark plug every 25 hours. Re- moval. Tighten the spark plug to a torque

place the spark plug if the electrodes are of 15 foot-pounds.

pitted, burned, or if the porcelain is cracked.

Make sure the spark plug is clean.

Clean the spark plug by carefully scrap-

ing the electrodes (do not sand blast or

use a wire brush).

2. Check the spark plug gap with a feeler

gauge.

Before installing the spark plug, coat

the threads lightly with oil for easy re-

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT

Never make unnecessary adjustments to the

carburetor. The carburetor was set at the

factory to operate efficiently under most ap-

plications. However, if adjustments are re-

quired, we recommend you contact your

nearest Sears Service Center.

WARNING: The engine gover-

nor is set at the factory. Do not

change the governor setting.

Over speeding the engine above the fac-

tory setting can be dangerous. If you

think the engine governor needs an ad-

justment, contact your nearest Sears

Service Center.

SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENT

HOW TO REMOVE THE BELT

The belt made of a special compound. If the

belt becomes worn or breaks, replace the

belt with an original equipment belt.

1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the

spark plug.

2. Drain the gasoline and oil from the en-

gine.

3. Tip the Edger backwards on the handle.

Block the top of the handle against a wall

or under a bench.

4. Remove the screws from the belt guard

(see Figure 15).

5. To compress the spring and release ten-

sion on the belt, push the blade bearing

housing back toward the engine (see

Figure 16).

6. Carefully note the twist of the belt around

the engine pulley. Remove the old belt.

Replace with an original equipment belt.

7. To install a new belt, reverse the above

steps. Make sure to twist the new belt as

shown in Figure 16.

NOTE: If the belt is not installed properly,

the blade will not turn in the proper direc-

tion and can damage the blade or belt.

SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENT

HOW TO REPLACE THE BLADE

The blade is subject to wear and damage,

such as nicks and dents. This will not gener-

ally affect its function.

The blade is designed to not require sharp-

ening. Do not attempt to sharpen the blade.

WARNING: Do not sharpen the

blade. Sharpening can damage

the blade and cause it to break,

which can cause injury to yourself or to

others.

To replace the blade, follow the steps below.

2. Remove the blade Iocknut that holds

the blade to the drive shaft.

WARNING: To remove or tigh-

ten the blade Iocknut, always

use the method shown in

Figure 17. Always position the holding

wrench on the nut behind the blade.

3. Remove the blade.

4. Install a new blade and blade Iocknut.

Tighten the blade Iocknut to a torque of

40-45 foot pounds.

1. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the

spark plug.

5. Connect the spark plug wire to the spark

plug.

fuel tank. Never store in an en-

closed, poorly ventilated area where

fumes could reach an open flame, a

spark or a pilot light as on a furnace, wa-

ter heater or clothes dryer.

WARNING: Do not remove gas.

near a fire, or while you smoke.

Gasoline fumes can cause an explosion

or a fire.

When the Edger is put in storage for thirty

days or more, follow the steps below to

make sure the Edger is in good condition the

following season.

Edger

•Completely clean the Edger.

• Check the Edger for worn or damaged

parts. Tighten all loose hardware.

• Apply a small amount of engine oil to all

moving parts, particularly the wheels.

• Put the Edger in a building that has good

ventilation.

• Cover the Edger with a suitable protec-

tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic.

IMPORTANT: Never cover the Edger while

the engine and exhaust areas are still

warm.

NOTE: A yearly checkup or tune-up by a

Sears Service Center is a good way to

make sure that your Edger will provide

maximum performance for the next sea-

son.

Engine

IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in fuel system

parts such as the carburetor, fuel filter,

fuel hose, and tank during storage. Also,

using alcohol-blended fuels (called gaso-

hol, ethanol or methanol) can attract

moisture which leads to separation and

formation of acids during storage. Acidic

gas can damage the fuel system of an en-

gine while in storage.

To prevent engine damage when the Edger

is in storage for 30 days or more, follow the

steps below:

• Let the engine run until it is out of gaso-

line.

If you do not want to remove the gaso-

line, add a fuel stabilizer to any gasoline

left in the fuel tank. A fuel stabilizer will

minimize gum deposits and acids. If the

fuel tank is almost empty, mix the fuel

stabilizer with fresh gasoline in a sepa-

rate container and add the mixture to the

fuel tank. Always follow the instructions

on the stabilizer container. Start the en-

gine. Let the engine run for 10 minutes

to allow the mixture to reach the carbu-

retor.

• Change the engine oil. See "How To

Change The Engine Oil" in the Mainte-

nance section.

Lubricate the piston/cylinder area. This

can be done by first removing the spark

plug and squirting a small amount of

clean engine oil into the spark plug hole.

Then, cover the spark plug hole with a

rag to absorb oil spray. Next, rotate the

engine by pulling the starter two or three

times. Finally, install the spark plug and

attach the spark plug wire.

Store the Edger in the operating position

with the wheels down. If the Edger is

stored in any other position, oil from the

crankcase will enter the cylinder and

cause a service problem.

CONTROL WARRANTY STATEMENT

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency

("EPA"), the California Air Resources Board

("CARB") and Sears, Roebuck and Co. are

pleased to explain the Federal and California

Emission Control Systems Warranty on your

new small off-road engine. In California, new

1995 and later small off-road engines must be

designed, built and equipped to meet the

State's stringent anti-smog standards. In oth-

er states, new 1997 and later model year en-

gines must be designed, built and equipped, at

the time of sale, to meet the U.S. EPA regula-

tions for small non-road engines. Sears, Roe-

buck and Co. will warrant the emission control

system on your small off-road engine for the

periods of time listed below, provided there

has been no abuse, neglect, unapproved mod-

ification, or improper maintenance of your

small off-road engine.

Your emission control system may include

parts such as the carburetor, ignition system

and exhaust system. Also included may be the

compression release system and other emis-

sion-related assemblies.

Where a warrantable condition exists, Sears,

Roebuck and Co. will repair your small off-

road engine at no cost to you for diagnosis,

parts and labor.

MANUFACTURER'S EMISSION

CONTROL SYSTEM WARRANTY

COVERAGE

Emission control systems on 1995 and later

model year California small off-road engines

are warranted for two years as hereinafter

noted. In other states, 1997 and later model

year engines are also warranted for two years.

If, during such warranty period, any emission-

related part on your engine is defective in ma-

terials or workmanship, the part will be

repaired or replaced by Sears, Roebuck and

Co.

OWNER'S WARRANTY

RESPONSIBILITIES

As the small off-road engine owner, you are

responsible for the performance of the re-

quired maintenance listed in your Owner's

Manual, but Sears, Roebuck and Co. will not

deny warranty solely due to the lack of receipts

or for your failure to provide written evidence

of the performance of all scheduled mainte-

nance.

As the small off-road engine owner, you

should, however, be aware that Sears, Roe-

buck and Co. may deny you warranty cover-

age if your small off-road engine or a part

thereof has failed due to abuse, neglect, im-

proper maintenance or unapproved modifica-

tions.

You are responsible for presenting your small

off-road engine to a Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Authorized Service Outlet as soon as a prob-

lem exists. The warranty repairs should be

completed in a reasonable amount of time, not

to exceed 30 days.

Warranty service can be arranged by contact-

ing either a Sears, Roebuck and Co. Autho-

rized Service Outlet, or by contacting Sears,

Roebuck and Co. at 1-800-473-7247.

tween the ECS Warranty and the Sears, Roe-

buck and Co. Warranty, the ECS Warranty

shall apply except in any circumstances in

which the Sears, Roebuck and Co. Warranty

may provide a longer warranty period. Both the

ECS Warranty and the Sears, Roebuck and

Co. Warranty describe important rights and

obligations with respect to your new engine.

Warranty service can only be performed by a

Sears, Roebuck and Co. Authorized Service

Outlet. At the time of requesting warranty ser-

vice, evidence must be presented of the date

of sale to the original purchaser. The purchas-

ershallpayanychargesformakingservice

callsand/orfortransportingtheproductsto

andfromtheplacewheretheinspectionand/

orwarrantyworkisperformed.Thepurchaser

shallberesponsibleforanydamageorlossin-

curredinconnectionwiththetransportationof

EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM

WARRANTY

Emission Control System Warranty ("ECS

Warranty") for 1995 and later model year Cali-

fornia small off-road engines (for other states,

1997 and later model year engines):

A. APPLICABILITY: This warranty shall apply

to 1995 and later model year California small

off-road engines (for other states, 1997 and

later model year engines). The ECS Warranty

Period shall begin on the date the new engine

or equipment is delivered to its original, end-

use purchaser, and shall continue for 24 con-

secutive months thereafter.

B. GENERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY

COVERAGE: Sears, Roebuck and Co. war-

rants to the original, end-use purchaser of the

new engine or equipment and to each subse-

quent purchaser that each of its small off-road

engines is:

1. Designed, built and equipped so as to con-

form with all applicable regulations adopted by

the Air Resources Board pursuant to its au-

thority in Chapters 1 and 2, Part 5, Division 26

of the Health and Safety Code, and

2. Free from defects in materials and work-

manship which, at any time during the ECS

Warranty Period, will cause a warranted emis-

sions-related part to fail to be identical in all

material respects to the part as described in

the engine manufacturer's application for certi-

fication.

C. The ECS Warranty only pertains to emis-

sions-related parts on your engine, as follows:

1. Any warranted, emissions-related parts

which are not scheduled for replacement as

required maintenance in the Owner's Manual

shall be warranted for the ECS Warranty Peri-

od. If any such part fails during the ECS War-

ranty Period, it shall be repaired or replaced by

Sears, Roebuck and Co. according to Subsec-

tion 4 below. Any such part repaired or re-

placed under the ECS Warranty shall be

warranted for any remainder of the ECS War-

ranty Period.

2. Any warranted, emissions-related part

which is scheduled only for regular inspection

as specified in the Owner's Manual shall be

warranted for the ECS Warranty Period. A

statement in such written instructions to the ef-

fect of "repair or replace as necessary", shall

not reduce the ECS Warranty Period. Any

such part repaired or replaced under the ECS

Warranty shall be warranted for the remainder

of the ECS Warranty Period.

3. Any warranted, emissions-related part

which is scheduled for replacement as re-

quired maintenance in the Owner's Manual,

shall be warranted for the period of time prior

to the first scheduled replacement point for

that part. If the part fails prior to the first sched-

uled replacement, the part shall be repaired or

replaced by Sears, Roebuck and Co. accord-

ing to Subsection 4 below. Any such emis-

sions-related part repaired or replaced under

the ECS Warranty, shall be warranted for the

remainder of the ECS Warranty Period prior to

the first scheduled replacement point for such

emissions-related part.

4. Repair or replacement of any warranted,

emissions-related part under this ECS War-

ranty shall be performed at no charge to the

owner at a Sears, Roebuck and Co. Autho-

rized Service Outlet.

5. The owner shall not be charged for diagnos-

tic labor which leads to the determination that

a part covered by the ECS Warranty is in fact

defective, provided that such diagnostic work

is performed at a Sears, Roebuck and Co. Au-

thorized Service Outlet.

6. Sears, Roebuck and Co. shall be liable for

damages to other original engine components

or approved modifications proximately caused

by a failure under warranty of an emission-re-

lated part covered by the ECS Warranty.

7. Throughout the ECS Warranty Period,

Sears, Roebuck and Co. shall maintain a sup-

ply of warranted emission-related parts suffi-

cient to meet the expected demand for such

emission-related parts.

8. Any Sears, Roebuck and Co. authorized

and approved emission-related replacement

part may be used in the performance of any

ECS Warranty maintenance or repair and will

be provided without charge to the owner. Such

useshallnotreduceSears,RoebuckandCo.

ECSWarrantyobligations.

9.Unapprovedadd-onormodifiedpartsmay

notbeusedtomodifyorrepairaSears,Roe-

buckandCo.engine.SuchusevoidsthisECS

Warrantyandshallbesufficientgroundsfor

disallowinganECSWarrantyclaim.Sears,

RoebuckandCo.shallnotbeliablehereunder

forfailuresofanywarrantedpartsofaSears,

RoebuckandCo.enginecausedbytheuseof

suchanunapprovedadd-onormodifiedpart.

Pasos preliminares

•Lea detenidamente el Manual del usuario.

Debe familiarizarse completamente con los

controles y el uso correcto de la orilladora.

Aprenda c6mo apagar, detener y desen-

ganchar los controles de la orilladora, en

caso de que tenga que hacerlo rapidamen-

te.

• Siempre que use la orilladora debera ves-

tirse con ropa apropiada y usar zapatos

que le protejan y le den buena tracci6n.

• Mantenga el area de operaci6n despejada

de personas, especialmente de nifios pe-

quefios y mascotas.

• Examine el area en donde va a ser usada

la orilladora y desp6jela de cualquier objeto

que pudiera ser lanzado por la maquina.

Combustible

Nunca guarde la orilladora Ilena de com-

bustible ni el recipiente de combustible en

un recinto donde haya alguna llama ex-

puesta.

Operacibn

Nunca permita que nifios o adolescentes

manejen la orilladora. Mant6ngalos fuera

del area de recorte. Nunca permita que

usen la unidad los adultos no familiariza-

dos con las instrucciones de operaci6n.

• No opere la orilladora si esta tomando al-

gQn farmaco u otra medicina que le provo-

que somnolencia o que afecte su habilidad

de operar esta unidad con seguridad.

• No use la orilladora si no esta fisica o men-

talmente capacitado para hacerlo de ma-

hera segura.

• Tenga mucho cuidado al manejar gasolina

y otros combustibles, estos son sumamen-

te inflamables. •

• Use Qnicamente recipientes aprobados.

Siempre use gafas de seguridad o caretas

protectoras al operar, ajustar o reparar la

orilladora, esto protegera sus ojos de obje-

tos que pudieran ser lanzados por la uni-

dad.

• Revise el nivel de combustible cada vez

que use la orilladora. AsegQrese de dejar

suficiente espacio, ya que el calor del mo-

tor y/o del sol puede causar la expansi6n

del combustible.

• Debe reabastecer o Ilenar el tanque de

combustible en un area abierta y con mu-

cho cuidado. Nunca Ilene el tanque en un

espacio cerrado. Fije bien la tapa del tan-

que de combustible y limpie cualquier de-

rrame.

No ponga las manos o los pies cerca o de-

bajo de piezas giratorias.

Preste mucha atenci6n cuando maneje la

orilladora cerca de la calle, o cuando cruce

por calzadas, calles o caminos de grava.

Est6 alerta tanto al trafico como a proble-

mas potenciales o imprevistos.

Tenga cuidado para evitar cafdas o resba-

Iones.

• Nunca opere la orilladora sin colocar en su

lugar los respectivos resguardos u otros

aditamentos disefiados para su protecci6n

y seguridad.

• Nunca opere la orilladora a alta velocidad

en superficies resbalosas. Siempre que

retroceda mire hacia atras y hagalo con

cuidado.

• Nunca quite la tapa del tanque de combus-

tible ni afiada combustible al tanque cuan- •

do el motor est6 caliente o en marcha.

NORMAS DE SEGURIDAD

Almacenamiento

• Cuando la orilladora va a ser almacenada

por un periodo largo de tiempo, consulte

las instrucciones del manual del usuario

para obtener detalles importantes al res-

pecto.

• Nunca almacene la orilladora con combus-

tible en el tanque, dentro de un recinto

donde pudieran haber fuentes de ignici6n

tales como calentadores de agua, estufas

secadoras de ropa y otras fuentes pareci-

das. Permita que el motor se enfrie antes

de guardar la unidad en un recinto cerrado.

• Mantenga la orilladora en condiciones de

funcionamiento seguras. Revise con regu-

Cuando se indica el lado izquierdo o dere-

cho de la orilladora en este manual, siempre

se hace desde el punto de vista del operador

en su posici6n detras de la unidad.

INSTRUCCIONES PARA SACAR

LA ORILLADORA DE SU CAJA

1. Saque la botella de aceite y la bolsa de

piezas/partes de la caja.

Corte hacia abajo las cuatro esquinas de

la caja.

Retire el material de empaque colocado

en la parte del frente y trasera de la uni-

dad. Mantenga el material de empaque

en la parte de abajo de la unidad, hasta

que la vara de control est6 montada. Es-

to ayudara a mantener la rueda delante-

ra en una posici6n estable.

Levante la orilladora de la caja y col6-

quela sobre una superficie plana y esta-

ble.

C6MO LEVANTAR EL MANGO

1. Afloje las perillas y levante la parte su-

perior del mango a su posici6n vertical.

Ver la Figura 19.

2. Apriete las perillas. AsegQrese de que

las perillas est6n colocadas por afuera

del mango como se muestra en la

Figura 19.

3. Inserte el extremo de la vara de con-

trol, de DERECHA a IZQUIERDA, a tra-

v6s del agujero en el brazo derecho de

la rueda delantera. Fije la vara usando

la horquilla que se encuentra en la bol-

sa de piezas. Ver la Figura 20.

4. Empuje el mango hacia abajo para que

la unidad se incline hacia atras.

5. Inserte el otro extremo de la vara de

control, de DERECHA a IZQUIERDA, a

trav6s del agujero en la palanca de

control de profundidad y suj6telo con

la horquilla. Ver la Figura 21.

6. Mueva la palanca de control de pro-

fundidad hacia adelante, a la posici6n

de ARRANQUE Y DESPLAZAMIENTO.

7. Quite todo el material de empaque que

se encuentre debajo de la unidad.

8. Para conectar la cuerda de arranque

manual a la guia del cable, tuerza la

cuerda de arranque manual pasandola

a trav6s de la guia del cable. Ver la

Figura 22.

PREPARACI6N DEL MOTOR 1. Coloque la orilladora sobre una superficie

Cbmo Ilenar el cbrter de aceite

Esta orilladora fue enviada con una botella

de aceite de motor SAE30. Coloque este

aceite en el motor antes de hacer funcionar

la unidad. Para Ilenar el carter de aceite, qui-

te la tapa /varilla indicadora de aceite y aria-

da el aceite de motor SAE30. NO LO

LLENE DEMASIADO.

NOTA: Es posible que el motor ya tenga

un poco de aceite. Durante el proceso de

Ilenado del aceite, compruebe frecuente-

mente el nivel usando la varilla indicado-

ra. NO LO LLENE DEMASIADO.

Recomendaciones para el aceite

Use s61o aceite detergente de alta calidad

con una clasificaci6n de servicio API de SG.

La selecci6n del grado de viscosidad SAE

del aceite se hace segQn la temperatura an-

ticipada de funcionamiento. Aunque los acei-

tes multiviscosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.)

mejoran el arranque en temperaturas bajas,

su uso en temperaturas por encima de los

40°F (0°C) aumenta el consumo de aceite.

Compruebe el nivel de aceite con mayor fre-

cuencia para evitar un posible dafio al motor

por operar la unidad con poco aceite.

Cbmo Ilenar el tanque de combustible

Aseg_rese de que el recipiente de gasolina

est6 limpio y sin residuos o contaminantes.

Nunca use gasolina vieja que haya sido al-

macenada por perfodos de tiempo prolonga-

dos.

1. Quite la tapa del tanque de combustible.

2. Llene el tanque de combustible con ga-

solina de autom6vil limpia, nueva y sin

plomo.

,_ ADVERTENCIA: Use siempre un

recipiente de seguridad para el

combustible. No fume cuando

est_ reabasteciendo el motor. No rea-

bastezca dentro de un local cerrado.

Apague el motor antes de afiadir com-

bustible. Deje enfriar el motor por varios

minutos.

NOTA: LOS MOTORES QUE HAN SIDO

CERTIFICADOS PARA CUMPLIR CON

LOS REGLAMENTOS DE EMISIONES DE

LA EPA (EE.UU.) Y DEL ESTADO DE CA-

den usar gasolina regular sin plomo.

lidad, favor de revisar la siguiente lista de

comprobaci6n antes de hacer funcionar su

_' Revise la caja de envfo para asegurar

OPERACION

mantenga las manos y los pies fuera del

alcance de la cuchilla.

COMODETENERLA ORILLADORA

Mueva la palanca de control de pro-

fundidad de corte hacia adelante para

elevar la cuchilla. Luego suelte la palan-

ca de parada del motor. Ver la Figura 25.

_DVERTENCIA: Nunca debe

dejar la ORILLADORA desaten-

dida mientras el motor est_ fun-

cionando. Siempre levante la cuchilla

de recorte y apague el motor.

1. Suelte la palanca de parada del motor,

el motor y la cuchilla se detendran auto-

maticamente. Para poner en marcha el

motor, sujete la palanca de parada del

motor en la posici6n de operaci6n. Ver

la Figura 25.

Si el motor no se apaga, coloque un destor-

nillador de manera que haga contacto simul-

taneamente con la bujia y las aletas de

enfriamiento del motor. La chispa producira

una conexi6n a tierra, apagando el motor.

IMPORTANTE: Antes de arrancar el mo-

tor, examine el funcionamiento de la pa-

lanca de parada del motor varias veces.

Aseg=3rese de que el cable de parada del

motor se mueve libremente. Si el cable de

parada del motor est& doblado o dafiado,

reempl&celo. Si el problema contim3a, lie-

ve su orilladora a un centro de servicio

de Sears (Service Center) para corregir el

problema.

COMOUSARLA PALANCADECON-

1. Arranque el motor.

2. Para bajar la cuchilla de corte, jale hacia

atras la palanca de control de profundi-

dad de corte.

3. Seleccione la profundidad del corte que

desea. Puede seleccionar entre tres pro-

fundidades de corte, lamas baja siendo

de aproximadamente cinco centfmetros

(2 pulg.).

NOTA: Para rebordear a mayor profundi-

dad, haga el primer corte a poca profun-

didad, aumentando la profundidad del

corte sucesivamente hasta que obtenga

la profundidad deseada.

Espere dos segundos mas o menos entre

cada pulsaci6n del bot6n.

OPERACION

C6MO PARAR EL MOTOR

Para apagar el motor, suelte la palanca de

parada del motor.

Si el motor no se apaga, coloque un destor-

nillador de manera que haga contacto simul-

taneamente con la bujia y las aletas de

enfriamiento del motor. La chispa producira

una conexi6n a tierra, apagando el motor.

C6MO ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

_DVERTENCIA: Cuando el mo-

tor est_ en marcha, la cuchilla

estar& girando. Para prevenir

lesiones, mantenga las manos y los

pies alejados de la cuchilla.

IMPORTANTE: Antes de arrancar el motor,

Ileve la orilladora al &rea donde la usar&.

Examine los controles varias veces. Ase-

gt_rese de que estos se mueven libremen-

te,

Revise el nivel del aceite.

Llene el tanque de combustible con ga-

solina regular sin plomo. La gasolina de-

be ser limpia. El uso de gasolina con

plomo aumentara la acumulaci6n de de-

p6sitos y reducira la vida 6til de las valvu-

las.

NOTA: No use gasohol ni metanol. Tampo-

co use gasolina s=3per sin plomo.

,_ ADVERTENClA: Use siempre

un recipiente de seguridad para

el combustible. No fume cuan-

do est_ reabasteciendo el tanque de

combustible. No reabastezca dentro de

un local cerrado. Apague el motor an-

tes de Ilenar el tanque de combustible y

deje enfriar el motor por varios minu-

tos.

3. Aseg6rese de que el cable de la bujfa

est6 conectado a 6sta.

4. Jale la palanca de parada del motor com-

pletamente hacia atras hasta la posici6n

ENGANCHADO. Sujete la palanca de

parada del motor contra el mango.

5. Para arrancar el motor en frfo, oprima el

botbn cebador tres veces. Espere unos

dos segundos entre cada pulsaci6n del

bot6n. Ver la Figura 27.

NOTA: No use el botbn cebador para

arrancar un motor caliente.

Para arrancar el motor, agarre firmemen-

te la manija de arranque manual con su

mano derecha.

Jale rapidamente la manija de arranque

manual. EVITE que la cuerda de arran-

que se enrolle de un golpe. Haga que la

cuerda se enrolle lentamente. Si el motor

no arranca despu6s de tres intentos,

oprima el bot6n cebador dos veces yjale

nuevamente la manija de arranque ma-

nual.

8. Si el motor no arranca despu6s de 5 6 6

intentos, consulte las instrucciones de la

"Tabla de Iocalizaci6n de averfas".

NOTA: La velocidad del motor controla la

velocidad de la cuchilla giratoria.

_DVERTENCIA: Nunca arran-que el motor en un local cerra-

do o sin ventilacibn. El motor

genera emisiones de monbxido de car-

bono, un gas inodoro y potencialmente

fatal. Mantenga las manos, los pies, el

cabello y la ropa holgada alejados de

las piezas en movimiento. Evite el con-

tacto con el silenciador y los compo-

nentes que Io rodean, la temperatura de

_stos puede exceder los 66°C (150°F).

RECOMENDACIONES PARA EL

USO DE SU ORILLADORA

•La orilladora trabaja mejor cuando el tiem-

po esta seco. Si la tierra esta muy moja-

da, el barro se pega y acumula alrededor

de la cuchilla haciendo que 6sta se des-

gaste prematuramente y que la unidad no

funcione como debe.

• Si se pega el barro a la cuchilla, apague el

motor y desconecte el cable de la bujia.

Quite el barro y basura pegados a la cu-

chilla.

• Para un bordeado mas profundo, corte

primero a poca profundidad. Luego, haga

cortes mas profundos hasta Iograr la pro-

fundidad deseada.

• Para obtener un borde parejo, aseg6rese

de que la guia de la cuchilla se deslice

sobre la superficie del suelo.

• El bordeado puede modificarse variando

el n6mero de pasadas y tambi6n por la

distancia en que se encuentre la cuchilla

en relaci6n a la superficie.

ADVERTENCIA: Lea el Manual

del usuario. Familiaricese con

la ubicacibn y la funcibn de

todos los controles. Mantenga todos los

dispositivos de seguridad y protectores

en su lugar. Nunca permita que usen la

unidad los niSos o adultos no familiari-

zados con la orilladora. Apague el mo-

tor antes de limpiar la cuchilla o de ha-

cer reparaciones a la unidad. Mantenga

a los espectadores o transe_ntes a una

buena distancia de la m&quina. Manten-

ga alejadas de la cuchilla todas las par-

tes giratorias que puedan causar lesio-

nes.

Todos los ajustes que aparecen en la sec-

ci6n de Servicio y Ajustes de este manual

deben ser revisados por Io menos una vez

en cada estaci6n.

MANTENIMIENTO

LUBRICACI6N

Despu6s de cada 25 horas de uso, aplique

unas gotas de aceite de motor a todas las

piezas movibles, especialmente alas rue-

das.

Cbmo cambiar el aceite de motor

Gamble el aceite en el carter del motor des-

pu6s de cada 25 horas de uso.

NOTA: El aceite se vacia con mayor facili-

dad cuando el motor estd caliente.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujia.

2. Quite el tapbn de drenaje de aceite

(ver la Figura 28). Vacie el aceite dentro

de un recipiente piano.

3. Una vez drenado el aceite, instale y

apriete el tapbn de drenaje de aceite.

4. Quite la tapa del aceite (ver la

Figura 29). Llene lentamente el carter de

motor. No Io Ilene demasiado. Consulte

las "Especificaciones del producto" para

obtener informaci6n sobre la cantidad y

grado de aceite. Ponga nuevamente la

tapa del aceite.

5. Conecte el cable de la bujia.

COMOCAMBIARELFILTRODEAIRE

Bajo condiciones de uso normales, reempla-

ce el filtro de aire una vez al afio, pero con

mayor frecuencia en condiciones polvorien-

tas o sucias.

NOTA: NO limpie ni lubrique el filtro de

aire. El filtro de aire es un componente

desechable y debe ser reemplazado.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujia.

2. Remueva el tornillo (Ver la Figura 30.)

3. Remueva cuidadosamente el filtro de

aire para prevenir que caigan desechos

dentro del carburador.

4. Aparte el filtro de aire y limpie todas las

partes. Lave el elemento de Espuma-

Aceitada en detergente liquido y agua.

Escurra hasta secarlo con un trapo lim-

pio. Sature el elemento de Espuma-

Aceitada en aceite para motor y

esc6rralo en un trapo limpio para remo-

ver el exceso de aceite.

5. Instale el elemento de Espuma-Aceitada

y la taza en el cuerpo. (Instale el ele-

mento de forma que el borde se extien-

da por encima del borde del cuerpo para

formar un sello protector cuando se

monte la tapa.)

6. Instale el filtro de aire firmemente en el

carburador con un tornillo.

7. Conecte el cable de la bujia.

PRECAUCI6N: Nunca opere la unidad sin

un filtro de aire. Un filtro daSado reducir&

el rendimiento del motor. Si entra polvo u

otro contaminante en el motor a trav_s

del carburador, el motor se desgastard

excesivamente o se da_ar_. Debe reem-

plazar inmediatamente el filtro de aire si

_ste se encuentra da_ado u obstruido.

MANTENIMIENTO

BUJiA

Revise la bujia cada 25 horas de operaci6n

de la unidad. Debe reemplazar la bujia si los

electrodos se encuentran da_ados o quema-

dos, o si la porcelana esta fisurada.

1. AsegQrese de que la bujia est6 limpia.

Si no Io esta, raspe cuidadosamente los

electrodos (no use chorros de arena ni

cepillos de alambre).

2. Revise el entrehierro de la bujia usando

una I_mina calibradora.

3. Antes de instalar la bujia, aplique una

capa ligera de aceite a la parte roscada

para facilitar su remoci6n. Apriete la bu-

jia hasta Iograr un par de torsi6n de 15

libras-pie.

AJUSTE DEL CARBURADOR

Nunca haga ajustes innecesarios al carbura-

dor. El carburador ha sido calibrado en la

fabrica para funcionar de manera 6ptima en

la mayoria de las condiciones de uso. No

obstante, si es necesario ajustarlo, se reco-

mienda comunicarse con el Centro de servi-

cio de Sears mas cercano a usted.

,_ ADVERTENCIA: El regulador dc

velocidad del motor ha sido ca-

librado en la f&brica. No haga

ajustes al regulador de velocidad. Hacer

funcionar el motor a una velocidad exce-

siva puede ser peligroso. Si piensa que

el regulador de velocidad del motor re-

quiere un ajuste, comuniquese con el

Centro de servicio de Sears m_s cercanc

a usted.

C6MO DESMONTAR LA CORREA

La correa esta hecha de un material espe-

cial. Si la correa se desgasta o se rompe,

reemplacela con un repuesto original.

1. Desconecte el cable de la bujia.

2. Vacfe toda la gasolina y el aceite del mo-

tor.

Empuje el mango hacia abajo para incli-

nar la orilladora hacia atras. Sujete la

parte superior del mango contra la pared

o debajo de un banco.

4. Quite los dos tornillos de la cubierta

protectora de la correa (ver la

Figura 32).

5. Para comprimir el resorte y aflojar la ten-

si6n de la correa, empuje la cubierta del

cojinete de la cuchilla hacia el motor (ver

la Figura 33).

6. Fijese en la vuelta de la correa alrededor

de la polea motriz. Quite la correa des-

gastada. Reemplacela con un repuesto

original.

7. Para instalar una correa nueva, siga los

pasos anteriores en orden inverso, tal

como se muestra en la Figura 33.

NOTE: Si la correa no est& instalada de la

manera apropiada, la cuchilla no girar&

en la direccibn correcta y se puede daSar

la cuchilla o la correa.

C6MO REEMPLAZAR LA CUCHILLA

La cuchilla esta sujeta a desgaste y da_os,

tales como hendeduras y abolladuras. Gene-

ralmente 6stas no afectan el funcionamiento

de la unidad.

La cuchilla esta diseSada de manera que no

necesite ser afilada. No intente afilarla.

,_ ADVERTENCIA: No afile la

cuchilla. El afilado puede da-

5ar la cuchilla y hacer que _s-

ta se rompa, Io cual puede causar lesio-

nes a usted u otras personas.

Para reemplazar la cuchilla, sigas los pasos

a continuaci6n.

2. Retire la contratuerca de cuchilla que

sujeta la cuchilla al eje motor.

,_ ADVERTENCIA: Para sacar o

apretar la contratuerca de la

cuchilla, use siempre el m_to-

do ilustrado en la Figura 34. Coloque

siempre una Ilave de boca para sujetar

el perno ubicado detr&s de la cuchilla.

3. Retire la cuchilla.

4. Instale una cuchilla y una contratuerca

nueva. Apriete la contratuerca a un par

de torsi6n de 40 a 45 libras-pie.

ALMACENAMIENTO

ADVERTENCIA: Nunca guarde

la orilladora con combustible

en el tanque en un recinto ce-

rrado. Nunca la guarde en un _rea cerra-

da y con poca ventilacibn, donde los va-

pores del combustible pudieran alcanzar

una llama expuesta, chispas o el piloto

en un sistema de calefaccibn, calentador

de agua o secadora de ropa.

ADVERTENCIA: No saque la

gasolina del tanque mientras

se encuentra dentro de un re-

cinto cerrado, cerca de un incendio o

una llama expuesta, o mientras est_ fu-

mando. Los vapores de la gasolina pue-

den causar una explosibn o un incendio.

Cuando es necesario almacenar la orilladora

por treinta dias o mas, siga los pasos indica-

dos a continuaci6n para asegurar que la ori-

Iladora est6 en buenas condiciones de uso

para la siguiente estaci6n.

• Limpie bien la orilladora.

• Revise la orilladora por si tuviera partes

o piezas gastadas o daSadas. Apriete

todas las partes que est6n sueltas.

• Coloque una pequeSa cantidad de acei-

te de motor a todas las partes movibles,

especialmente alas ruedas.

• Guarde la orilladora en un recinto que

tenga buena ventilaci6n.

• Cubra la orilladora con una cubierta

apropiada que no retenga humedad. No

use plastico.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la orilladora

mientras el motor y las &reas de escape

est_n todavia calientes.

NOTA: Una revisibn o un aflnamiento

anual hecho en un Centro de servicio de

Sears es una buena manera de asegurar

que su orilladora le brindar& un bptimo

rendimiento en la prbxima estacibn

IMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que

se formen residuos de resina en los com-

ponentes del sistema de combustible, ta-

les como el carburador, filtro del

combustible, linea del combustible y tan-

que, durante el almacenamiento de la uni-

dad. Ademds, el uso de combustibles

mezclados con alcohol (llamados gaso-

hol, etanol o metanol) puede atraer hume-

dad Io cual Ileva a la separacibn del

combustible y a la formacibn de dcidos

durante el almacenamiento de la unidad.

Los gases dcidos pueden da_ar el siste-

ma de combustible de un motor mientras

la unidad estd guardada.

Para prevenir el daSo al motor cuando la ori-

Iladora esta guardada por 30 dias o mas,

siga los pasos siguientes:

• Deje el motor andando hasta que se le

termine la gasolina.

• Si usted no desea sacar la gasolina del

tanque, aSada a 6sta un estabilizador de

combustible a la gasolina que queda en

el tanque. El estabilizador de combusti-

ble minimizara los dep6sitos de resina y

los acidos. Si el tanque de combustible

esta casi vacio, mezcle el estabilizador

con gasolina fresca en otro recipiente y

aSada la mezcla al tanque de combusti-

ble. Siga siempre las instrucciones que

aparecen en el envase del estabilizador.

Arranque el motor. Deje que el motor co-

rra por 10 minutos para permitir que la

mezcla alcance el carburador.

• Cambie el aceite del motor. Consulte

"C6mo cambiar el aceite del motor" en la

secci6n de Mantenimiento.

• Lubrique el area del pist6n/cilindro. Esto

se puede hacer quitando primero la bujia

y colocando una pequeSa cantidad de

aceite de motor limpio en el orificio de la

bujia. Luego, cubra el orificio de la bujia

con un paso para absorber el aceite ro-

ciado. A continuaci6n, haga girar el mo-

tor jalando la manija de arranque manual

dos o tres veces. Por Qltimo, instale la

bujia y conecte el cable de la misma.

• Almacene la orilladora en la posici6n de

operaci6n con las ruedas sobre el suelo.

Si almacena la orilladora en cualquier

otra posici6n, el aceite del carter del mo-

tor entrara en el cilindro Io cual causaria

un problema de servicio.

E.U.A. - DECLARACI6N DE LA

GARANTiA

La Agencia de Protecci6n Ambiental de los

Estados Unidos (en Io sucesivo "EPA"), el

Consejo de California para los Recursos del

Aire (en Io sucesivo "CARB") y Sears, Roe-

buck and Co. tienen el placer de explicar Io que

es la Garantia Federal y de California para Sis-

temas de Control de Emisiones de su nuevo

motor pequefio para vehiculos off-road. En

California, los motores pequefios para vehicu-

los off-road de modelo 1995 y modelos de

afios posteriores deben ser disefiados, cons-

truidos y equipados para cumplir con las es-

trictas normas anti contaminaci6n del Estado.

En otros estados, los motores modelo 1997 y

modelos de afios posteriores deben estar di-

sefiados, construidos y equipados, al momen-

to de su venta, para que cumplan con las

disposiciones de la EPA acerca de motores

pequefios para vehiculos off-road. Sears,

Roebuck and Co. garantizara el sistema para

el control de emisiones de su motor pequefio

para vehiculos off-road por los periodos de

tiempo que se mencionan mas adelante, con

tal que su motor pequefio para vehiculos off-

road no haya sufrido algQn abuso, negligen-

cia, modificaci6n no aprobada o

mantenimiento indebido.

Es probable que su sistema para el control de

emisiones incluya partes como el carburador,

el sistema de encendido y el sistema de esca-

pe. Tambi6n es posible que se incluya el siste-

ma de descompresi6n y otros ensamblajes

relacionados con emisiones.

Cuando surja una condici6n protegida por la

garantia, Sears, Roebuck and Co. reparara su

motor pequefio para vehiculos off-road sin

costo alguno para usted por concepto de diag-

n6stico, partes y mano de obra.

SISTEMA PARA EL CONTROL DE

EMISIONES DEL FABRICANTE -

COBERTURA DE LA GARANTiA

Los sistemas para el control de emisiones mo-

delo 1995 y modelos de afios posteriores de

motores pequefios para vehiculos off-road en

California estan garantizados por dos afios, tal

y como se menciona en la presente garantia.

En otros estados, los motores modelo 1997 y

modelos de afios posteriores tambi6n estan

garantizados por dos afios. En caso de que,

durante dicho periodo de la garantia, cualquier

parte de su motor relacionada con emisiones

est6 defectuosa en sus materiales o hechura,

Sears, Roebuck and Co. reparara o cambiara

dicha parte.

RESPONSABILIDADES DEL

PROPIETARIO DE LA GARANTiA

Como propietario del motor pequefio para ve-

hiculos off-road usted es responsable de que

se Ileve a cabo el mantenimiento requerido

que se menciona en el Manual del Propietario,

pero Sears, Roebuck and Co. no negara la ga-

rantia Qnicamente debido a la falta de un reci-

boo a que usted no proporcione una prueba

escrita de que se ha Ilevado a cabo el manteni-

miento programado.

No obstante, usted, como propietario del mo-

tor pequefio para vehiculos off-road, debera

estar consciente de que Sears, Roebuck and

Co. le puede negar la cobertura de la garantia

si su motor o alguna parte del mismo ha fallado

debido a un abuso, negligencia, mantenimien-

to inadecuado o modificaciones no aproba-

das.

Usted es responsable de presentar su motor

pequefio para vehiculos off-road en el Taller

Autorizado de Servicio de Sears, Roebuck

and Co. en cuanto surja el problema. Las repa-

raciones bajo la garantia deben Ilevarse a ca-

NOTA IMPORTANTE

Esta declaraci6n de la garantfa explica los de-

rechos y las obligaciones que usted tiene de

del comprador original. El comprador pagara

cualquier cargo por concepto de Ilamadas de

servicio y/o transportaci6n de productos des-

de y para el lugar en donde se Ileve a cabo el

trabajo de inspecci6n y/o garantfa. El compra-

dor sera responsable de cualquier dafio o p6r-

dida en el que se incurra con relaci6n a la

transportaci6n de cualquier motor o cualquier

parte del mismo que se presente para inspec-

ci6n y/o trabajo de garantfa.

A. CAMPO DE APLICACI6N: Esta garantfa

debera aplicarse a los motores pequefios para

vehfculos off-road modelo 1995 y modelos de

afios posteriores en California (para otros es-

tados, motores modelo 1997 y modelos de

afios posteriores). El Periodo de la Garantfa

SCE iniciara en la fecha de entrega del nuevo

motor o equipo al comprador original y conti-

nuara durante los siguientes 24 meses conse-

cutivos.

B, COBERTURA GENERAL DE LA GA-

RANTIA DEL SISTEMA PARA EL CON-

TROL DE EMISIONES: Sears, Roebuck and

Co. garantiza al comprador original del nuevo

motor o equipo y a cada comprador subse-

cuente que su motor pequefio para vehfculos

off-road esta:

1. Disefiado, construido y equipado para que

cumpla con todas las disposiciones aplicables

adoptadas por el Consejo para los Recursos

del Aire de conformidad con su autoridad es-

pecificada en los Capitulos I y 2, Parte 5, Divi-

si6n 26 del C6digo de Salud y Seguridad, y

2. Libre de defectos en sus materiales y mano

de obra, los cuales, en cualquier momento du-

rante el Periodo de la Garantfa SCE, cause la

falla de una parte relacionada con emisiones

y que est6 bajo la garantia en cuanto a que no

sea id6ntica en sus materiales a la parte des-

crita en la solicitud de motor del fabricante pa-

ra su certificaci6n.

C. La Garantfa SCE s61o atafie alas partes de

su motor relacionadas con emisiones de la si-

guiente manera:

1. Cualquier parte relacionada con emisiones

que no se especifique como de cambio, tal y

como se requiere en el mantenimiento especi-

ficado en el Manual del Propietario, debera ga-

rantizarse por el Periodo de la Garantfa SCE.

Si dicha parte falla durante el Periodo de la Ga-

rantfa SCE, Sears, Roebuck and Co. la repa-

rara o cambiara de acuerdo con la Subsecci6n

4 que se menciona mas adelante. Cualquier

parte reparada o cambiada de conformidad

con la Garantia SCE debera estar garantizada

por el resto del Periodo de la misma.

2. Cualquier parte garantizada y relacionada

con emisiones que est6 especificada s61o pa-

ra inspecciones regulares conforme al Manual

del Propietario debera estar garantizada por el

Periodo de la Garantfa SCE. Una declaraci6n

en dichas instrucciones por escrito a efecto de

"reparar o cambiar tal y como sea necesario"

no reducira el Periodo de la Garantfa SCE. Di-

cha parte reparada o cambiada conforme a la

3.Cualquierpartegarantizadayrelacionada

conemisionesqueseespecifiqueparacam-

7.DuranteelPeriododelaGarantiaSCE,

Sears,RoebuckandCo.deberaconservarun

suministrodepartesgarantizadasyrelaciona-

dasconemisionesqueseasuficientepara

cumplirlademandaesperadadeesaspartes

relacionadasconemisiones.

8.Sepuedeutilizarcualquierpartederepues-

torelacionadaconemisionesautorizaday

aprobadaporSears,RoebuckandCo.para

utilizarseeneldesempeSodecualquierman-

tenimientoocambiodelaGarantiaSCE,la

cualseproporcionarasincargoalgunoparael

propietario.Dichousonoreduciralasobliga-

cionesdeSears,RoebuckandCo.conforme

alaGarantiaSCE.

9.Laspartesqueseagreguenomodifiquen

sinaprobaci6nnosepodranutilizarparamo-

dificarorepararunmotordeSears,Roebuck

andCo.DichousoanulaestaGarantiaSCEy

conformaralasbasessuficientespararecha-

zarlademandadeunaGarantiaSCE.Sears,

RoebuckandCo.noseraresponsable,con-

formeaestagarantia,porlasfallasdecual-

quierpartegarantizadadeunmotordeSears,

RoebuckandCo.causadasporelusodedi-

chaparteagregadaomodificadasinaproba-

ci6n.
