CRAFTSMAN FULL WARRANTY

FOR TWO YEARS from the date of pumhase, all non-expendable parts of this riding equipment are

warranted against any defects in material or workmanship. A defective non-expendable part will

receive free in-home repair or replacement if repair is impossible.

FOR FIVE YEARS from the date of purchase, the frame and front axle of this riding equipment are

warranted against any defects in material or workmanship, A defective frame or front axle will receive

free in-home repair or replacement if repair is impossible.

FOR 90 DAYS from the date of purchase, the battery (an expendable part) of this riding equipment

is warranted against any defects in material or workmanship (our testing proves that it will not hold a

charge). A defective battery will receive free in-home replacement.

ADDITIONAL LIFETIME LIMITED WARRANTY on CAST IRON FRONT AXLE (if equipped)

FOR AS LONG AS IT IS USED by the original owner after the fifthyear from the date of purchase, the

cast iron front axle (if equipped) of this riding equipment is warranted against any defects in material or

workmanship. With proof ofpurchase, a defective cast front axle wilI receive free in-home replacement.

° Standard maintenance servicing, oil changes, or tune-ups.

• Tire replacement or repair caused by punctures from outside objects, such as nails, thorns,

stumps, or glass.

. Engine (fuel system) cleaning or repairs caused by fuel determined to be contaminated or oxidized

(stale). In general, fuel should be used within 30 days of its purchase date.

• Normal deterioration and wear of the exterior finishes, or product label replacement.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from

state to state.

_DANGER: This cutting machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and

throwing objects. Failure to observe the following safety instructions could result

in serious injury or death.

Operate only at the lowest possible speed

when ona slope. Too heavy of a load, while

on a slope, is dangerous. Tires can lose

traction with the ground and cause you to

lose control of your tractor.

1. GENERAL OPERATION

•Read, understand, and followatlinstruc-

tions on the machine and in the manual

before starting.

•Never direct discharged material toward

anyone. Avoid discharging material

against a wall or obstruction. Material

may ricochet back toward the operator,

!1.SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are amajor factor related to toss of

control and tip-over accidents, which can

result in severe injury or death, Operation

on all s{opes requires extra caution. If you

cannot back upthe slope or ifyoufeel uneasy

on it, do not mow it.

.Mow up and down slopes, not across.

•Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or

other hidden objects, Uneven terrain

could overturn the machine, Tall grass

can hide obstacles.

• Choose a low ground speed so that you

will not have to stop or shift while on the

s]ope.

• Donot mow onwet grass. Tires may lose

traction.

Always keep the machine in gear when

going downslopes. Donotshiftto neutral

and coast downhill,

• Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a

slope. Ifthetires Iosetraction, disengage

the blades and proceed slowly straight

down the slope.

- Keep all movement on the slopes slow

and gradual. Do not make sudden

changes in speed or direction, which

could cause the machine to roll over.

• Use extra care while operating machine

with grass catchers or otherattachments;

they can affect the stability of the ma-

chine, Do no use on steep slopes,

° Do not try to stabilize the machine by

putting your foot on the ground.

.Do not mow near drop-offs, ditches,

or embankments. The machine could

suddenly roll over if a wheel is over the

edge or if the edge caves in.

• Keep children out of the mowing area

and in the watchful care of a responsible

adult other than the operator.

• Be alert and turn machine off if a child

enters the area.

• Before and while backing, look behind

and down for sma, children.

- Never carrychildren, even withthe blades

shutoff. They mayfall offand beseriously

injured or interfere with safe machine

operation. Children who havebeen given

rides inthe past may suddenly appear in

the mowing area for another ride and be

run over or backed over by the machine,

Never allow children to operate the ma-

chine.

•Use extra care when approaching blind

corners, shrubs, trees, or other objects

that may block your view of a child.

IV. TOWING

Tow only with a machine that has a hitch

designed for towing. Do notattachtowed

equipment except at the hitch point.

• Followthe manufacturer's recommenda-

tion for weight limitsfor towed equipment

and towing on slopes.

• Never allow children or others in or on

towed equipment,

• On slopes, theweight ofthetowed equip-

ment maycause loss of traction and loss

of control.

• Travel slowly and allow extra distance to

stop.

erating a pedestrian controlled lawn mower

and a minimum of 16 years of age before

operating a riding lawn mower.

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator

is not alert to the presence of children,

Children are often attracted to the machine

and the mowing activity. Never assume

that children will remain where you last

saw them.

•Use only approved gasoline container.

*Never remove gas cap or add fuel with

the engine running. Allow engine to cool

before refueling.

• Never fuel the machine indoors.

, Never storethe machine orfuel container

where there is an open flame, spark, or

pilot light such as on a water heater or

other appliances.

• Never fill containers inside a vehicle or

on a truck or trailer bed with plastic liner.

Always place containers on the ground

away from your vehicle when filling.

. Remove gas-powered equipment from

the truck or trailer and refuel it on the

ground. Ifthis is not possible, then refuel

such equipmentwith a portable container,

rather than from a gasoline dispenser

nozzle.

• Keep the nozzle in contact with the rim

of the fuel tank or container opening at

all times until fueling is complete. Do not

use a nozzle lock-open device.

• Iffuelis spilled on clothing, change cloth-

ing immediately.

- Never overfUlfuel tank. Replace gas cap

and tighten securely.

GENERAL SERVICE

•Never operate machine in aclosed area.

• Keep all nuts and bolts tightto besurethe

equipment is in safe working condition.

• Nevertamperwith safetydevices. Check

their proper operation regularly.

• Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debris build-up. Clean oil or fuel

spillage and remove any fuel-soaked de-

bris. Allow machine to cool beforestoring.

• If you strike a foreign object, stop and

inspectthe machine. Repair,ifnecessary,

before restarting.

• Never make any adjustments or repairs

with the engine running.

• Check grass catcher components andthe

discharge chute frequently and replace

with manufacturer's recommended parts,

when necessary.

• Mowerbladesaresharp. Wraptheblade

or wear gloves, and use extra caution

when servicing them.

• Checkbrakeoperationfrequently. Adjust

and service as required.

• Maintain or replace safety and instruction

labels, as necessary.

, Remove all accessible loose parts and

parts cartons from carton.

• Cut along dotted lines on all four panels

of carton. Remove end panels and lay

side panels flat.

,Check for any additional loose parts or

cartons and remove.

ADJUST SEAT

t. Sit in seat.

2. Lift up adjustment lever (A) and slide seat

until a comfortable position is reached

which allows you to press clutch/brake

pedal all the way down.

3. Release lever to lock seat in position.

toremovethetractorfromtheskid.

_lbWARNING: Before starting, read, un-

derstand and follow all instructions in the

Operation section of this manual. Be sure

tractor is in a well-ventilated area. Be sure

the area in front of tractor is clear of other

people and objects.

TO ROLL TRACTOR OFF SKID (See

Operation section for location and

function of controls)

1. Raise attachment lift lever to its highest

position.

2. Release parking brake by depressing

brake pedal.

3. Place freewheel control in disengaged

position to disengage transmission (See

"TOTRANSPORT" inthe Operation sec-

tion of this manual).

4. Roll tractor forward off skid.

5. Remove banding holding the deflector

shield up against tractor.

Continue with the instructions that follow.

CHECK TIRE PRESSURE

The tires on your tractor were overinflated at

the factory for shipping purposes. Correct

tire pressure is important for best cutting

performance.

• Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown on

tires.

CHECK DECK LEVELNESS

For best cutting results, mower housing

should be properly leveled. See "TO LEVEL

MOWER" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual.

CHECK FOR PROPER POSITION OF

ALL BELTS

at the factory).

,I Be sure mower deck is properly leveled

side-to-sideifront-to-rear for best cutting

results. (Tires must be properly inflated

for leveling).

,z Check mower and drive belts. Be sure

they are routed properly around pulleys

and inside all belt keepers,

v" Check wiring, See that all connections

are still secure and wires are properly

clamped.

,/Before driving tractor, be sure freewheel

control is in "transmission engaged"

position (see "TO TRANSPORT" in the

Operation section of this manual).

The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown intol

HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTOR

TO SET PARKING BRAKE

Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. When engine is

running, anyattempt bythe operator to leave

the seatwithout first setting the parking brake

will shut off the engine.

1. Depress brakepedal (B) alltheway down

and hold.

2, Pull parking brake lever (C) up and hold,

release pressurefrom brake pedal (B),

then release parking brake lever. Pedal

should remain in brake poSition. Make

sure parkingbrake will hold tractor se-

cure,

STOPPING

•Turn ignition key (F) to "STOP" position

and remove key. Always remove keywhen

leavingtractorto prevent unauthorized use.

•Never use choke to stop engine.

IMPORTANT: Leaving the ignition switch in

any position otherthan "STOP" will cause the

battery to discharge and go dead.

NOTE: Undercertain conditions when tractor

is standing idlewith the engine running, hot

engine exhaust gases may cause "brown-

ing" of grass. To eliminate this possibility,

always stop engine when stopping tractor

on grass areas.

_lb CAUTION: Always stop tractor com-

pletely, as described above, before leaving

the operator'sposition.

TO USE THROTTLE CONTROL

Always operate engine at full speed (fast).

.Operating engine at less than full speed

(fast) reduces engine's operating effi-

ciency.

• Full speed (fast) offers the best mower

performance.

TO USE CRUISE CONTROL

The cruise control feature can be used for

forward travel only.

SYSTEM CHARACTERISTICS

The cruise control should only be used

while mowing or transporting on relatively

smooth, straight surfaces. Other conditions

such as trimming at slow speeds may cause

the cruise control to disengage. Do not use

the cruise control on slopes, rough terrian

or while trimmimg or turning.

• With forward drive pedal (K) depressed to

desired speed, pull cruise control lever (J)

up and hold while lifting your foot off the

pedal, then release the lever.

Todisengage the cruise control, depress the

brake pedal or tap on forward drive pedal.

TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT

The position of the attachment lift lever (A)

determines the cutting height.

• Put attachment liftlever in desired cut-

ting height slot.

The cutting height range is approximately

1" to 4". The heights are measured from

the ground to the blade tip with the engine

not running. These heights are approximate

and may vary depending upon soil condi-

tions, height of grass and types of grass

being mowed.

• The average lawn should be cut to ap-

proximately 2-1/2" during the cool sea-

son and to over 3" during hot months.

NOTE: Adjust gauge wheels with tractor on

a flat level surface,

I. Adjust mower to desired cutting height

(See "TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING

HEIGHT" in this section of manual).

2. With mowerin desired heightofcutposi-

tion, gauge wheels should be assembled

so they are slightly off the ground. Install

gauge wheel inappropriate hole. Tighten

securely.

TO OPERATE MOWER

Your tractor is equipped with an operator

presence sensing switch. Any attempt

by the operator to leave the seat with the

engine running and the attachment clutch

engaged will shut off the engine, You must

seat to prevent the engine from hesitating or

cutting off when operating your equipment

on rough, rolling terrain or hills.

TO ADJUST GAUGE WHEELS

Gauge wheels are properly adjusted when

they are slightly off theground when mower

is at the desired cuttingheightin operating

position. Gauge wheels then keepthe deck

in proper position to help prevent scalping

in most terrain conditions.

REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM (ROS)

Your tractor is equipped with a Reverse

Operation System (ROS). Any attempt by

the operator to travel in the reverse direction

with the attachment clutch engaged will shut

off the engine unless ignition key is placed

in the ROS "ON" position.

_,WARNING: Backing up with the at-

tachment clutch engaged while mowing is

strongly disco(Jraged.Turningthe ROS"ON",

to allow reverse operation with the attach-

ment clutch engaged, should only be done

when the operator decides it is necessaryto

reposition the machine with the attachment

engaged. Do not mow in reverse unless

absolutely necessary.

USING THE REVERSE OPERATION

SYSTEM -

Only use if you are certain no children or

other bystanders will enter the mowing area.

the ignition switch to the on position, then

the off position five times (1 second on, 1

Note: Service reminder runs when the

ignition key is in any position but "STOP".

For accurate reading, be sure key remains

in the "STOP" position when engine is not

running.

BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE

CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

The engine inyour tractor has been shipped,

from the factory, already filled with summer

weight oil.

1. Check engine oil with tractor on level

ground.

2. Remove oil fill cap!dipstick and wipe

clean, reinsert the dipstick and screwcap

tight, wait for a few seconds, remove and

read oil level. If necessary, add oil until

"FUL[_ mark on dipstick is reached. Do

not overfill.

• For cold weather operation you should

change oil for easier starting (See the oil

viscosity chart inthe Maintenance section

of this manual).

• Tochange engine oil, seethe Maintenance

section in this manual.

ADD GASOLINE

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of filler neck. Do

not overfill. Use fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline with a minimum of

87 octane. (Use of leaded gasoline will

increase carbon and lead oxide deposits

and reducevaive life), Do not mix oilwith

gasoline. Purchase fuel in quantities that

can be used within 30 days to assure fuel

freshness.

_CAUTION: Wipe offany spilled oil or fuel.

Do not store, spill or use gasoline near an

open flame.

IMPORTANT: When operating in tempera-

tures below 32°F(0°C), use fresh, clean

winter grade gasoline to help insure good

cold weather starting.

CAUTION: Alcohol blended fuels (called

gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can

attract moisture which leads to separation

and formation of acids during storage. Acidic

6. When engine starts, move the throttle

control to the fast position,

the load, restart the engine and allow itto

warm up for one minute usingthe choke

as described above.

COLD WEATHER STARTING ( 50°F/10° C

and below)

6. When engine starts, leavethrottle control

in choke position until engine warms up

and begins to run roughly. Once rough

running begins, immediately move the

throttle control to the fast position. Engine

warm-up maytake from several seconds

to several minutes (the colder the tem-

perature, the longer the warm-up).

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WARM UP

Before driving the unit in cold weather, the

transmission should be warmed up as fol-

TO START ENGINE

When starting the engine for the first time or

if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take

extra cranking time to move fuel from the

tank to the engine.

mission engaged position.

PURGE TRANSMISSION

_ILCAUTION: Never engageordisengage

freewheel lever while the engine is running.

Toensure properoperation and performance,

it is recommended that the transmission be

purged before operating tractor for the first

time. This procedurewill remove anytrapped

air inside the transmission which may have

developed during shipping of your tractor.

IMPORTANT: Should your transmission

require removal for service or replacement,

itshould be purged after reinstattation before

operating the tractor.

1. Place tractor safely on a level surface -

that is clear of objects and open - with

engine off and parking brake set.

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in disengaged position

(See 'q'O TRANSPORT" in this section

of manual).

3. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.

After the engine is running, move throttle

control to slow position. Disengage park-

ing brake.

_CAUTION: At any time, during step 4,

there may be movement of the drive wheels.

4. Depress forward drive pedal to fullforward

position and hold for five (5) seconds and

release pedal. Depress reverse drive

pedal to full reverse position and hold

for five (5) seconds and release pedal,

Repeat this procedure three (3) times.

5. Shutoff engine and set parking brake.

6. Engage transmission by placing free-

wheel control in engaged position (See

"TO TRANSPORT" in this section of

manual).

7. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.

After the engine is running, move throttle

control to half (1/2) speed. Disengage

parking brake.

MOWING TIPS

• Tire chains cannot be used when the

mower housing is attached to tractor.

• Mower should be properly leveled for

best mowing performance. See '*TO

LEVEL MOWER HOUSING" in the

Service and Adjustments section of this

manual.

•The left hand side of mower should be

used for trimming.

• Drive so that clippings are discharged

onto the area that has already been

cut. Have the cut area to the right of

the tractor. This will result in a more

even distribution of clippings and more

uniform cutting,

•When mowing large areas, start by

turning to the right so that clippings will

discharge away from shrubs, fences,

driveways, etc. After one or two rounds,

mow in the opposite direction making

left hand turns until finished.

•If grass is extremely tall, it should be

mowed twice to reduce load and pos-

sible fire hazard from dried clippings.

Make first cut relatively high; the second

to the desired height.

• Do not mow grass when it is wet.

Wet grass will plug mower and leave

undesirable clumps. Allow grass to dry

before mowing.

TIRES

• Maintain proper air pressure in all tires

(See PSI on tires).

• Keep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect

control chemicals which can harm rubber,

• Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp

objects and other hazards that may

cause tire damage.

NOTE: To seat tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, tire sealant

may be purchased from your local parts

dealer. Tire sealant also prevents tire dry

rot and corrosion.

OPERATOR PRESENCE SYSTEM AND

your tractor does not function as de-

scribed, repair the problem immediately.

(NormalOperating) Your tractor has a battery charging system

which is sufficient for normal use. How-

ever, periodic charging of the battery with

an automotive charger will extend its life.

• Keep battery and terminals clean.

• Keep battery bolts tight.

Keep small vent holes open.

Recharge at 6-10 amperes for I hour.

NOTE: The original equipment battery on

your tractor is maintenance free, Do not

attempt to open or remove caps or covers,

Adding or checking level of electrolyte is

not necessary.

TRANSAXLE COOLING

The transmission fan and cooling fins

should be kept clean to assure proper

cooling.

Do not attempt to clean fan or transmis-

sion while engine is running or while the

transmission is hot, To prevent possible

damage to seals, do not use high pressure

water or steam to clean transaxle.

• Inspect cooling fan to be sure fan blades

are intact and clean,

• Inspect cooling fins for dirt, grass clip-

pings and other materials. To prevent

damage to seals, do not use com-

pressed air or high pressure sprayer to

clean cooling fins.

TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID

The transaxle was sealed at the factory

and fluid maintenance is not required for

the life of the transaxle. Should the trans-

axle ever leak or require servicing, contact

your nearest Sears or other qualified

service center.

V-BELTS

Check V-belts for deterioration and wear

after 100 hoursof operation and replace

if necessary. The belts are not adjustable.

Replace belts if they begin to slip from

AIR FILTER

Your enginewill not run property using a

dirbJ air filter. Clean the foam pre-cleaner

after every 25 hours of operation or every

season, Service paper cartridge every

100 hours of operation or every season,

whichever occurs first.

Service air cleaner more often under dusty

conditions.

1, Remove cover.

TO SERVICE PRE-CLEANER

2. Wash it in liquid detergent and water.

3. Squeeze it dry in aclean cloth.

4. Saturate it in engine oil. Wrap it in

clean, absorbent cloth and squeeze to

remove excess oil.

TO SERVICE CARTRIDGE

1. Clean cartridge by tapping gently on

flat surface. If very dirt:/or damaged,

replace cartridge.

2. Reinstall precleaner cartridge, cover

and secure.

IMPORTANT: Petroleum solvents, such

as kerosene, are not to be used to clean

the cartridge. They may cause deteriora-

tion of the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge.

CLEAN AIR INTAKE/COOLING AREAS

To insure proper cooling, make sure the

grass screen, cooling fins, and other exter-

nal surfaces of the engine are kept clean

at all times.

Every 100 hours of operation (more often

under extremely dusty, dirty conditions),

remove the blower housing and other cool-

ing shrouds. Clean the cooling fins and

external surfaces as necessary, Make sure

the cooling shrouds are reinstalled.

NOTE: Operating the engine with a

blocked grass screen, dirty or plugged

cooling fins, and!or cooling shrouds

removed will cause engine damage clue to

overheating.

MUFFLER

Inspect and replace corroded muffler and

spark arrestor (if equipped) as it could cre-

ate a fire hazard and/or damage.

SPARK PLUG(S)

Replace spark plug(s) at the beginning

of each mowing season or after every

100 hours of operation, whichever occurs

first, Spark plug type and gap setting are

shown in' PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"

section of this manual.

IN-LINE FUEL FILTER

The fuel filter should be replaced once

each season. If fuel filter becomes

clogged, obstructing fuel flow to carbu-

retor, replacement is required.

1. With engine cool, remove filter and

plug fuel line sections.

2. Place new fuel filter in position in fuel

line with arrow painting towards carbu-

retor.

3. Be sure there are no fuel line leaks and

clamps are properly positioned,

4. Immediately wipe up any spilled gaso-

line.

ENGINE OIL FILTER

Replace the engine oil filter every season or

every other oil change if the tractor is used

more than 100 hours in one year.

CLEAN AIR SCREEN

Air screen must be kept free of dirt and

chaff to prevent engine damage from

overheating. Clean with a wire brush or

compressed air to remove dirt and stub-

born dried gum fibers.

CLEANING

• Clean engine, battery, seat, finish, etc,

of all foreign matter.

• Clean debris from steering plate.

Debris can restrict clutch/brake pedal

shaft movement, causing belt slip and

toss of drive.

We do not recommend using agarden hose

or pressure washer to clean your tractor

unless the engine and transmission are

covered to keep water out. Water in engine

or transmission will shorten the useful life of

your tractor. Use compressed air or a leaf

blower to remove grass, leaves and trash

from tractor and mower.

DECK WASHOUT PORT

Your tractor's deck is equipped with a

washout port on its surface as part of its

deck wash system. It should be utilized af-

ter each use.

1, Drive the tractor to a level, clear spot

on your lawn, near enough to a water

discharge chute is directed AWAY from your

house, garage, parked cars, etc. Remove

bagger chute or mulch cover if attached.

2. Make sure the attachment clutch control

is inthe "DISENGAGED" position, set

the parking brake, and stop the engine.

3. Thread the nozzle adapter (packaged

with your tractor's Operator's Manual)

onto the end of your garden hose.

4. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzte

adapter and push the adapter onto the

deck washout port at the left end of the

mower deck. Release the lock collar to

lock the adapter on the nozzle. 2O

IMPORTANT: Tug hose ensuring connec-

tion is secure.

5. Turn the water on.

6. While sitting in the operator's position

on the tractor, re-start the engine and

place the throttle lever in the Fast "._"

position.

IMPORTANT: Recheck the area making

certain the area is clear.

7. Move the tractor's attachment clutch

control to the "ENGAGED" position.

Remain in the operator's position

withthe cutting deck engaged until the

deck is cleaned.

8. Move the tractor's attachment clutch

control to the "DISENGAGED" posi-

tion. Turn the ignition key to the STOP

position to turn the tractor's engine off.

Turn the water off.

9. Pull back the lock collar of the nozzle

adapter to disconnect the adapter from

the nozzle washout port.

10, Move the tractor to a dry area, prefer-

ably a concrete or paved area. Place

the attachment clutch control in the

"ENGAGED" position to remove excess

water and to help dry before putting the

tractor away.

1. Depress brake pedal fully and set parking brake.

2. Place attachment clutch in "DISENGAGED" position.

3. Turn ignition key to "STOP" and remove key.

4. Make sure the blades and all moving parts have completely stopped.

5. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with plug,

TO REMOVE MOWER

1. Place attachment clutch in "DISEN-

GAGED" position.

2, Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest

position.

3. Roll belt off engine pulley (M) and belt

keepers (G),

4. Remove retainer spring (K), slide collar

(L) off and push housing guide (P) out

of bracket.

5. Remove clutch cable spring (Q) from

idler arm (R).

6, Disconnect front link (E) from mower -

remove retainer spring and washer.

7. Go to either side of mower and discon-

nect mower suspension arm (A) from

chassis pin (B) and rear lift link (C) from

rear mower bracket (D)- remove retainer

springs and washers.

_CAUTION: After rear liftlinks are discon-

nected, the attachment lift leverwillbespring

loaded. Have a tight grip on lift lever when

changing position of the lever.

8. Slide mower out from under right side of

tractor.

IMPORTANT: If an attachment other than

the mower is to be mounted on the tractor,

remove the front link (E) and rear lift links

(Q) into the cable guide on front edge of

lower dash.

TO INSTALL MOWER

Besuretractor isonlevel surface and engage

parking brake.

1. Lower attachment lift lever to its lowest

position.

• lk CAUTION: Lift lever is spring loaded.

Have a tight grip on lift lever, lower it slowly

and engage in lowest position.

NOTE: Be sure mower side suspension

arms (A) are pointing forward before sliding

mower under tractor.

2. Slide mower under tractor until it is cen-

tered under tractor.

6. ATTACH FRONT LINK (E) - Work from

left side of tractor. Insert rod end of link

assembly through front hole in tractor

11. Raise attachment lift lever to highest

position.

12. If necessary, adjust gauge wheels before

operating mower as shown in the Opera-

TO LEVEL MOWER

Make sure tires are properly inflated to the

PSIshown ontires, Iftires are over orunder

inflated, itmay affect the appearance of your

lawn and lead you to think the mower is not

adjusted properly.

VISUAL SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

1. With all tires properly inflated and if your

lawn appears unevenly cut, determine

which side of mower is cutting lower.

2. With a 3/4" or adjustable wrench, turn tift

link adjustment nut (A) to the left to lower

LH side of mower, or,to the right to raise

LH side of mower,

NOTE: Each ful[ turn of adjustment nut wilt

change mower height about 3/16".

3, Test your adjustment by mowing some

uncut grass and visually checking the

appearance. Readjust, ifnecessary, until

you are satisfied with the results.

PRECISION SIDE-TO-SIDE ADJUSTMENT

2, Raise mower to its highest position.

3, At both sides of mower, position blade at

side and measure the distance (A) from

bottom edge of blade to the ground. The

distance should be the same on both

sides.

4. If adjustment is necessary, see step 2 in

Visual Adjustment instructions above.

5. Recheck measurements, adjust ifneces-

sary until both sides are equal.

FRONT-TO-BACK ADJUSTMENT

IMPORTANT: Deck must be level side-

to-side,

Toobtain the best cutting results, the mower

blades should be adjusted so the front tip is

1/8" to 1/2" lower than the rear tip when the

_lboweris in its highest position.

CAUTION: Blades are sharp. Protect

your hands with gloves and/or wrap blade

with heavy cloth.

• Raise mower to highest position.

• Position any blade so the tip is pointing

straight forward. Measure distance (B)

to the ground at front and rear tip of the

blade.

• If front tip of blade is not 1/8"to 1/2" lower

than the rear tip, go to the front of tractor.

• With an tl/16" or adjustable wrench,

loosen jam nut A several turns to clear

adjustment nut B.

.With a 3/4" or adjustable wrench, turn

front link adjustment nut (B) clockwise

(tighten) to raise the front of mower, or,

counterclockwise (loosen) to lower the

front mower.

• Recheck measurements, adjust if neces-

TO REPLACE MOWER BLADE DRIVE

BELT

The mower blade drive beltmay be replaced

without tools. Park the tractor on level sur-

face. Engage parking brake.

BELT REMOVAL -

1. Remove mowerfromtractor (See"TO RE-

2. Work belt off both mandrel pulleys and

idler pulleys.

3. Pull belt away from mower.

TO REPLACE MOTION DRIVE BELT

Park the tractor on level surface. Engage

parking brake. For assistance, there is a

belt installation guide decal on bottom side

of left footrest.

BELT REMOVAL -

NOTE: Observe entire motion drive belt

and position of all belt guides and keepers.

2. Remove beltfrom stationaryidler (A)and

clutching idler (B).

3. Remove belt from centerspan idler (C).

4. Pull belt slack toward rear of tractor.

Carefully remove belt upwards from

transm{ssion input pul[ey and over cool-

ing fan blades (D).

5. Remove belt downward from engine

pulley (E).

6. Slide belt toward rear of tractor, off the

steering plate (F}and removefrom tractor.

BELT INSTALLATION -

!. Install new belt from tractor rear to front,

over the steering plate (F) and above

clutch brake pedal shaft (G).

2. Pull belt toward front of tractor and roll

belt onto engine pulley (E).

3. Pull belt toward rear of tractor. Carefully

work belt down around transmission

cooling fan and onto the input pulley (D).

Be sure belt is inside the belt keeper.

4. Install belt on centerspan idler (C).

5. Install belt through stationary idler (A)

and clutching idler (B).

6. Make sure belt is in all pulley grooves

and inside all belt guides and keepers.

7. Install mower (See "TO INSTALL MOW-

ER" in this section of manual).

TO CHECK BRAKE

If tractor requires more than five (5) feet to

stop at highest speed in highest gear on a

level, dry concrete or paved surface, then

brake must be serviced.

You may also check brake by:

1, Park tractor on a level, dry concrete or

paved surface, depress brake pedal

all the way down and engage parking

brake,

2. Disengage transmission by placing

freewheel control in "transmission dis-

engaged" position. Pull freewheel con-

trol out and intothe slot and release so

it is held in the disengaged position.

The rear wheels must lock and skid

when you try to manually push the tractor

forward. If the rear wheels rotate, then the

brake needs to be serviced. Contact a

Sears or other qualified service center,

FRONT WHEEL TOE-IN/CAMBER

Your new tractor front wheel toe-in and

camber is set at the factory and is normal.

The frontwheel toe-in and camber are

not adjustable. If damage has occurred to

affect the factory set front wheel toe-in or

camber, contact a Sears or other qualified

service center,

TO REMOVE WHEEL FOR REPAIRS

1. Block up axle securely.

2, Remove axle cover, retaining ring and

washers to allow wheel removal (rear

wheels have a square key- Do not lose).

3, Repair tire and reassemble.

NOTE: On rearwheels onty: aUgngroovesin

rear wheel hub and axle. Insert square key.

4. Replace washers and snap retaining ring

securely in axle groove.

5. Replace axle cover.

NOTE: To seal tire punctures and prevent

flat tires due to slow leaks, purchase and

explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame and

smoking materials away from batteries.

If "jumper cables" are used for emergency

starting, follow this procedure:

IMPORTANT: Your tractor is equipped with

a 12voltsystem. The othervehicle must also

be a 12 volt system, Do not use your tractor

battery to start other vehicles.

I, Connect one end ofthe RED cable tothe

POSITIVE (+)terminal of each battery(A-

2. Connect one end of the BLACK cable

to the NEGATIVE (-) terminal (C) of fully

charged battery.

3. Connect the other end of the BLACK

cable (D) to good chassis ground, away

Your carburetor has been preset at thefactory

However, minor adjustment may berequired

to compensate for differences in fuel, tem-

perature, altitude or load. If the engine does

need adjustment, see engine manual.

Immediately prepare your tractor for storage

at the end of the season or if the tractor will

n_tbe used for 30 days or more.

WARNING: Never store the tractor with

gasoline in the tank inside a building where

fumes may reach an open flame or spark.

Allow the engine to cool before storing in

any enclosure.

TRACTOR

When tractor is to be stored for a period

of time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt,

grease, leaves,etc. Store inaclean, dryarea.

1. Clean entire tractor (See"CLEANING" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).

2. Inspect and replace belts, if necessary

(See belt replacement instructions in the

Service and Adjustments section of this

manual).

3. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance

section of this manual.

4. Be sure that all nuts, bolts and screws

are securely fastened. Inspect moving

parts for damage, breakage and wear.

Replace if necessary.

5. Touch up all rusted or chipped paint

surfaces; sand lightly before painting.

BATTERY

• Fully charge the battery for storage.

• After a period of time in storage, battery

may require recharging.

. To help prevent corrosion and power

leakage during long periods of storage,

battery cables should be disconnected

and battery cleaned thoroughly (see "TO

CLEAN BATTERY AND TERMINALS" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).

• Aftercleaning, leavecables disconnected

and place cables where they cannot come

•Empty thefuel tank by starting the engine

and letting it run until the fuel lines and

carburetor are empty.

• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

• Use fresh fuel next season,

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable al-

ternative in minimizing the formation of fuel

gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer

to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container,

Always follow the mixratio found on stabilizer

container. Run engine at least 10 minutes

afteradding stabilizer to allowthe stabilizerto

reach the carburetor. Do not empty the gas

tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER(S)

I. Remove spark plug(s).

2. Pour one ounce of oilthrough spark plug

hole(s) into cylinder(s).

3. Turn ignition key to start position for a

few seconds to distribute oil,

• Replace your gasoline can if your can

starts to rust. Rust and/or dirt in your

gasoline will cause problems.

• If possible, store your tractor indoors and

cover it to give protection from dust and

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential fuel

system parts such as carburetor, fuel hose,

or tank during storage. Also, alcohol blended

fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or

methanol) can attract moisture which leads

to separation and formation of acids during

storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel

system of an engine while in storage.

I. FUNCIONAMIENTO GENERAL

extra. Si no es posible hacer marcha atrds en una

pendiente o site sientes incomodo, no Ia cortes.

•Cortar hacia arriba y abajo de una pendiente,

no de mode horizontal.

• Poner atenciones a los hoyos, las ralces, los

bultos, las piedras u otros objetos escondidos.

dientes lentos y gradual. No hacer cambios

repentinos de velocidad o direcci6n, ya qua

•Poner la m_xima atenciSn cuando la m&quina

funciona con captadores de hierba u otros

d}spositivos enganchados; pueden afectar la

estabilidad de la m&quina. No usar en pendi-

entes empinados.

• No intentar estabilizar la m&quina poniendo el

pie en ef terreno.

• No cortar cerca de bajadas, cunetas y orillas.

Las m&quina puede volcarse improvisamente

de qua los nifios se queden adonde estaban la

•Tenet el m&ximo cuidado cuando se acerca

a cantos ciegos, arbustos, &rboles u arras

IV, REMOLQIJE

• Remolcar s61ocon una m&quina que tenga un

gancho disefiado para remo[car. Enganchar el

equipo o remolcar s6Io en el punte dispuesto

al efecto.

• Seguir las recomendaciones det productor con

PARA REMOVER EL TRACTOR DE

LA CAJA DE CART6N

DESEMPAQUE LA CAJA DE CARTON

•Remueva todas las partes suettas que

estL=naccesibles, y las cajas de partes, de

.Cortar aIo largo de las lineas de puntos

en todos los cuatro paneles de cart6n,

Remover los paneles de cierre y aplanar

AJUSTE EL ASIENTO

1. Si6ntese sobre el asiento.

2, Levante la palanca deI ajuste (A) hacia arriba

y mueva el asiento hasta que alcance una

posici6n c6moda que Ieperm_tapresionarcom-

pletamente sobre el pedaldelembragueifreno.

3. Desconecte Ia palanca paratrabar el asiento

en la posicibn.

AVISO: Ahora puede rodar o conducir su tractor

fuera de la corredera. Siga ]as siguientes instruc-

ciones para remover el tractor de la corredera,

_I, ADVERTENCIA: Antes de empezar, leer, en-

tender y seguir todas Ias instrucciones presentes

en la seccidn de Operaciones de este manual.

Asegurarse que el tractor est@en un _rea bien

ventilada. Asegurarse que Ia zona delante deI

tractor est@libre de otras personas y objetos.

PARA HACER RODAR EL TRACTOR

FUERA DE LA CORREDERA (Vea la sec-

ci6n de la operaci6n para la Iocalidad y

la funci6n de los controles)

t, Apriete Ia mani!Ia de tevantamiento del pist6n

y, Ievante Ia palanca de Ievantamiento del

accesorio a su posici6n m&s alta.

2. Suelte el freno de estacionamiento presio-

nando el pedal deI freno.

3. Ponga el control de la rueda libre en la

posici6n de giro libre para desenganchar la

transmisi6n. (Vea "PARA TRANSPORTAR"

en la secci6n de Operaci6n de este manual).

4. Haga rodar el tractor hacia delante fuera de

la corredera.

5. Remueva las bandas que sujetan ta protec-

ci6n contra ta descarga en contra del tractor.

REVISION DE LA PRESI()N DE LAS

LLANTAS

Las Ilantas en su unidad fueron infladas de-

masiado en la f&brica por razones de envio. La

presi6n de las llantas correctas es importante

para obtener el mejor rendimiento en el core.

•Reduzca Ia presi6n de los neum&ticos a Ia PSI

que se !ndica en estos.

REVISION DE LA NIVELACI()N DEL

CON JUNTO

Para obtener los rnejores resultados en el corte, la

caja de Ia segadora tiene que estar nivelada en la

forma adecuada. Vea "PARA NIVELAR LA CAJA

alambres est@nsujetos en forma adecuada.

anteojos de seguridad o protecciones para los ojos mientras opera su tractor

o cuando haga ajustes o reparaciones Recomendamos gafas de seguridad o

una m_scara de visi6n amplia de segurJdad usada sobre las gafas.

COMO USAR SU TRACTOR

PARA AJUSTAR EL FRENO DE ESTACIONA_

MIENTO

Su tractor viene equipado con un interruptor

sensor qua exige la presencia de1operador.

Cuando el motor estd funcionando,si el op-

erador trata de bajarse del asiento sinprirnero

aplicar el freno de estacionamiento, se apagar&

el motor.

1. Presione el pedal del freno (B) completa-

mente y sostengalo,

2. Jale hacia arriba Ia palanca del freno de

mano (C) y mant_ngala en esa posici6n

suelte gradualmente el pedal del freno (B),

y luego suelte tapaJanca del freno de mano.

Aseg0rese que et freno de estacionamiento

va a sujetarel tractoren forma segura.

• Gire la llave de ignicibn (F) a la posici6n de

apagado "STOP" y rernueva la Ilave al aban-

donar eItractor paraevitar el uso no a_orizado.

IMPORTANTE: Dejando el interruptor de la

igniciSn en cualquier posici6n otra que "STOP"

causar i que ta bateria se descargue (muerta),

AVISO: Bajo ciertas condictones, cuando el

tractor est& parado con el motor andando en

vacio, los gases de escape deI motor caliente

pueden hacer que el cO,sped se ponga "caf6."

Para eliminar esta posibitidad, siempre pare el

motor cuando pare eltractor en &reascon c@sped.

A_ILPREOAUCI6N: Siempre pare el tractor com-

pletamente, segfin se ha descrito anteriorrnente,

antes de abandonar la posici6n deI operador.

PARA USAR EL CONTROL DE LA ACELER-

ACION (D)

Siempre opera el motor auna aceleracian

completa.

• Si el motor funciona a una velocidad inferiora

la m&xima (rdpida), su rendimiento disminuye.

• El rendimiento 6ptimo se obtiene a Iavelocidad

ma×ima (rdpida).

UTILIZAR EL MANDO CRUCERO

El mando crucero se puede utilizar s6Io durante

la marcha hacia ade]ante.

CARACTERiSTICAS TE_CNICAS

EI control de ve[ocidad crucero s61adebe usarse

mientras el tractor est@en labores de siega o

transportaci6n, movi_ndose sabre superficies que

est@nrelativamente planas y rectas.

Otras condiciones de trabajo, coma la poda, qua

requierevelocidades bajas, podrian desengranar

el control de velocidad crucero. No emplee el

control de velocidad crucero mientras eltractor se

desptaza par elevaciones, terrenos escarpados

o mientras el tractor est_ en [abates de poda o

virando.

1. Con el pedal (K) de marchaadelante apretado

ala velocidad deseada, mover la palanca de

mando de crucero hacia adelante hasta la

posici6n "SET" y mantenerla mientras se Ie-

vanta el pie deI pedal, ]uegosoltar la palanca

(J) de mando de crucero.

Para desconectar el mando de crucero, e pujar

fa pafanca hacia atr&s en la posici6n "OFF", o

apretar completamente et pedal del freno.

PARA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE CARTE DE

LA SEGADORA

La posici6n de la palanca elevadora (A)determina

a qu_ altura se cortar& el c_sped.

PARA AJUSTAR LAS RUEDAS CALIBRA-

DORAS

Las ruedas calibradoras estdn bien ajustadas

cuando se encuentran un poco a distancia del

terraria at mismo tiempo que la segadora est6 a

la attura de carte deseada. Entonces]as ruedas

calibradoras mantienen el conjunto segador en

posici6n para prevenir el carte raspeo en casi

todos los terrenos.

AVISO: Ajuste las ruedas calibradoras con el

tractor en una superlicie nivelada plana.

1. Ajuste la segadora a la altura de carte

deseada con la manitla de ajuste de al-

tura (Vea "PAPA AJUSTAR LA ALTURA DE

CARTE DE LA SEGADOR_' en [a secci6n

de OperaciSn de este manual).

2. Con la segadora a la altura deseada para ta

posiciSn de carte, se tienen qua montar Ias

ruedas calibradoras de modo que queden

un poco sabre el suelo. Instale fas ruedas

calibradoras en el agujero adecuado con el

perno con resalto, la arandela de 3/8, yta

tuerca de seguridad de 3/8-16 y apri@telos

en farina segura.

Repita el procedimientopara el lado opuesto

instatando la rueda calibradara en el mismo

agujero de ajuste.

PARA OPERAR LA SEGADORA

Su tractor viene equipada con un interruptor

sensor que exige la presencia del operador. Si

La gama de la altura de carte es de aproxima-

• El c_sped promedio debe cortarse aproxima-

damente a 2-1/2 pulgadas durante la tempo-

rada fria y sabre 3 pulgadas durante los meses

calurosos. Para obtener un c@spedm&ssalud-

able y de mejor apariencia, siegue a menudo

y despu6s de un crecimiento moderado.

- Para obtener el major rendimianto de carte, el

c_sped que tiene m&s de 6 pulgadas de altura

debe segarse dos vecos. Haga elpdmercorte rel-

ativamente alto; el segundo ala altura deseada.

FUNCIONAMIENTO ATRAS

Tutractor est,_ equipado con el Sistema de Fun-

cionamientoAtr&s (ROS). Cualquier tentativa del

operador deviajar marcha atr&scon el embrague

puestoapagar& el motor a menos que la Itave de

ignici6n se ponga en la posici6nde "ON" del ROS.

ATENCION: Ir marcha atr&s con et embrague

puesto para cortar, no es recomendable. Po-

niendoel ROSen posici6n"ON", para permitirel

funcionamiento atr&s conel embrague puesto,se

tiene que hacer s61ocuando el operadorIo consi-

dera necesario para reposicionar la m&quina con

et dispositive embragado. No s|egue en rev_s

IMPORTANTE: Si por acaso su transmisi6n debe

1. Para mayor seguridad, ubique el tractor en

una superficie nivetada, despejada de cual-

quier objeto y abierta, con et motor apagado

y el freno de mano puesto.

2. Desenganche la transmisi6n poniendo el

control de rueda libre en taposiciSn de desen-

ganchado (Vea"PARA ELTRANSPORTE" en

3. Sentado en el asiento del tractor,empiece

el motor, Despu@s que este corriendo el mo-

tor, mueva el control de estrangulaci6n a fa

posici6n de lento. Quitar el freno de mano.

•El lado izquierdo de la segadora se debe usar

para recorte.

•Manejede modo que los recortes se descarguen

en el Area que ya ha sido cortada. Mantenga

el Area de corte a ta derecha del tractor. Esto

producirA una distribuciSn m_ pareja de los

recortes y un corte mAs uniforme.

• AI segar las Area grandes, empiece girando a

ta derecha de modo que los recortes se des-

carguen, alejAndose de Ios arbustos, cercos,

entradas de autom6viles, etc. Despu_,sde una

solamente un lubdcante tipo grafito de polvo seco

en forma moderada,

Siempre observe Ias reglas de seguridad cuando

OPERACION DEL FRENO

Si el 1_actornecesita m&sde cinco (5) pies para

detenerse a la m&ximaveloddad al cambio m&salto

en una superficienivelada, de hormig6n o pavimen-

tada, hayque hacerle elservicio al freno. Ver "PARA

VERIFICAR SI FUNCIONA BIEN EL FRENO" en

el capitulo de Se_cio y ajustes de este manual.

LLANTAS

- Mantenga todos los neum&ticos con la presi6n

de aire adecuada (Ver la PSI qua se indicaen

estos).

•Mantenga las Ilantas sin gasolina aceite o

substanalas qutmicas para control de insectos

que pueden daSar la goma.

•Evite los tocones, ]as piedras, las grietas pro-

fundas, Ios objetos afilados y otros peligros

que pueden dar_aralas llantas.

AVISO: Para arreglar las Ilantas perforadas

yp_ra prevenir que tenga ifantas pinchadas a

causa de pequefas fugas, puede comprar el

selto para llantas de su comerciante de partes de

repuesto m&s corcano. Elselo previene que las

llantas se sequen y tambi_n la corrosi6n.

SISTEMA PRESENCIA OPERADOR Y SISTE-

MA FUNC|ONAMIENTO ATRAS (ROS)

Asegurarse de que et sistema de presencia

del operador y el sistema funcionamiento atr_s

funcionen bien. Si tu tractor no funci6n como

descrito, reparar el problema inmediatamente.

•El motor no arrancar& si el pedal de embra-

gueifreno est& completamente presionado y

el mando del embrague del accesorio est&

desconectado-:

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener resultados 6ptimos, las cuch{llas

de la cortadora deben estar afiladas. Reemplace

Ias cuchillas qua est@n gastadas, dobladas o

dar_adas.

REMOOION DE LA CUCHILLA

1. Levante la segadora a su posici6nm&s alta

para permitir el acceso alas cuchiIIas.

AVISO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/o

envuelva Ia cuchillacon una tela gruesa.

2, Remueva el perno de la cuchilla dandole

vueJtasen el sentido inverso al de las agujas

del reloj,

3. Instale la nueva cuchilta con el estampado

'q-HIS SIDE UP" en la direccion de la sega-

dora y del conjunto del mandril.

IMPORTANTE: Para asegurar la instalacion ap-

ropiada,posicione el agujero central de la cuchilIa

con la estrella del conjunto del mandril.

4. Instale y apriete el perno de Ia cuchilla firme-

mente (Par 45-55 piesilibras/62-75 Nm).

IMPORTANTE: El perno especial de Ia cuchilla

es termotratado.

Las aletas de enfriamientoy el ventiladorde

para asegurar el enfriamiento adecuado.

No trate de limpiarel ventifador o la transmisi6n

LUBRICACtON

Use selamente aceite de detergente de atta

calidad clasificado con la clasificaci6n SG-SL

de servicio API, Seleccione la calidad de visoo-

sidad del aceite SAE seg_n su temperatura de

operacidn esperada.

Revise el nivel del aceite del c&rter antes de

arrancar el motor y despu6s de cada ocho (8)

horas de use continuado. Apdete ]atapa deI

rellenoivarilla indicadora de nivel de{ aceite en

forma segura cada vez que revise el nivel del

aceite.

PARA CAMBIAR ELACEITE DEL MOTOR

Determine la gama de ta temperatura esperada

antes de cambiar el aceite. Todo el aceite debe

cumplir con laclasificaci6n de servicio API SG-SL,

•Aseg_rese que eltractor est_ en unasuperficie

nivelada.

•El aceite se drenar_ m&s f_cilmente cuando

est@caliente.

•Recoja el aceite en un envase adecuado.

1. Remueva Ia tapaivarilla indicadora de nive[

para relleno del aceite. Tenga cuidado de no

permitir que Iamugre entre en el motor cuando

cambie el aceite,

2. Desiice elaccesorio de purga delaceite desde

la posici6n de ensamblaje en el alojamiento

de [a turbina del motor y sep&relo del motor.

FILTRO DE AIRE

Su motor no va afuncionar en forma adecuada

si usa un filtro sucio. Limpie el elemento del

prefiltro de espuma despu6s de cada 25 horas

de operaci6n o cada temporada. Dele servico al

cartucho de papel carla 100 horas de operaci6n

o cada temporada, Io que suceda primero.

Dele servicio al filtro de aire m&s a menudo bajo

condiciones polvorosas

LIMPIEZA DE LA ENTRADA DE AIREiAREAS

DE ENFRIAMIENTO

Para asegurar un enfriamientoadecuado,

aseg0rese que la rejilladel c_sped, las aletas

de enfdamiento, y otras superficies extemas del

motor se mantengan limpias en todo momento.

Cada 100 horas de operaci6n (m&s a menudo

bajo condiciones extremadamente polvorosas

o sucias), remueva la caja del ventilador y otras

tapas de enfriamiento. Limpie las aletas de en-

friamiento y las superficies externas, seg0n sea

necesario. Aseg0rese que se vuelvan a instalar

Ias tapas de enfriamiento.

AVlSO: Si se opera la m_tquina con una rejilla

deec_sped bloqueada, sucia, ocon las aletas

de enfriamiento taponadas, y/o las tapas de

enfdamiento removidas se producir& dafio en el

motor debido aI calentamiento excesivo.

SILENCIADOR

Inspeccione y cambie el silenciador corroido y el

amortiguador de chispas (si viene equipado) pues

pueden crear un peligrode incendio yio da_os.

BUJiA(S)

Cambie Ias bujia(s) al comienzo de cada tem-

porada de siega o despu6s de cada 100 horas

de operaci6n, Io que suceda primero. El tipo de

bujia y el ajuste de la aber[ura aparecen en "ES-

PECIFICACIONES DEL PRODUCTO" secci6n

de este manual,

FILTRO DE COMBUSTIBLE EN LINEA

Et filtro de combustible debe cambiarse una

vez cada temporada. Si el filtro de combustible

se tapona, obstruyendo el flujo det combustible

hacia el carburador, es necesario cambiarlo,

No recomendamos que se utilice una manguera

de jard{n o agua a presi6n para limpiar el

tractor a no ser que el motor y la transmisi6n

est_n cubiertos para protegerlos del agua.

El agua en el motor y la transmisi6n acortan la

vida fitil del tractor. Utilizar aire comprimido o un

soplador de hojas para remover hierba, hojas y

basura del tractor y cortac6spedes.

PUERTO DE LAVADO DE LA CUBIERTA

La cubierta de su tractor estd equipada con un

puerto de tavado sobre la superficie que forma

parte del sistema de lavadode la cubierta. Se de-

ber{a utilizarcada vez que se haya usado ettractor.

4. Eche hacia atr&s la abrazadera de cierre del

adaptador de la boquilla yempuje L,ste en el

puerto de Iavado de la cubierta en el extrerno

izquierdo de la cubierta de la segadora. Suelte

laabrazadera de cierre parafijar el adaptador

en Ia boquilla.

tMPORTANTE: Tire de la manguera para asegu-

rarse de que la conexi6n est_ bien fija.

5. Abra Ia Ilave deI agua.

6. Desde la posici6n del operador deI tractor,

vuelva a arrancar el motor y ponga la palanca

de aceleraci6n en la posici6n "Fast" (rdpido).

IMPORTANTE: Vuelva a comprobar la zona para

asegurarse de que est& despejada,

7. Mueva el control deIembmgue dei accesorio a

la posici6n "ENGANCHAR". Mant6ngase en la

posici6n del operador con la cubierta de corte

acoplada hasta que la cubierta est6 limpia.

8. Mueva el control del embrague del accesorio a

la posici6n"DESENGANCHADO". Gire la Ilave

de encendido a }aposici6n STOP para apagar

el motor de] tractor. Cierre ]a tlave deI agua.

9. Tire hacia atr&s la abrazadera de cierre dei

adaptador de la boquilla para desconectar el

adaptador de1puerto de lavado de]a cubierta.

10. Lleve el tractor a una zona seca, preferente-

mente de cemento o pavimentada. Mueva

el control del embrague del acoesorio a la

posici6n "ENGANCHAR" para quitar el ex-

ceso de aguay ayudar a que se seque antes

de guardar el tractor.

_ADVERTENCIA: Si el acoesorio de lavado

jade de su c_sped, Io bastante cerca de

una boca de riego come para que Ilegue Ia

manguera del jardin.

IMPORTANTE: Aseg0rese de que la boca de

descarga del tractor estd orientada LEJOS de

su casa, garaje, coches aparcados, etc. Quite

la boca de ensacado o cubierta de mantillo si

est& acoplada.

2. Mueva el control del embrague del accesorio

a la posici6n "DESENGANCHADO", ponga el

freno de estacionamiento y apague el motor.

3. Enrosque el adaptador de ta boquilla (empa-

quetado con el manual del operador de{ trac-

tor) en el extreme de la manguera del jardin.

Sustituya inmediatamente el acoesorio de

SERVICIO O DE HACER AJUSTES:

1. Presione el pedal de freno completamente y aplique el freno de estacionamiento.

2. Ponga el embrague deI accesorio en la posici6n desenganchado (DISENGAGED).

3. Ponga la !lave de ignici6n en la posici6nde apagado (STOP) y remu_vaia.

4. AsegOrese que las cuchillas y que todas Ias partes movibles se hayan detenido comple-

tamente,

5, Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y p6ngalo en donde no pueda entrar en contacto con

PARA DESMONTAR LA CORTADORA

I. Suelte el embrague poni_ndolo en ta posici6n

"DISENGAGED" ("DESACTIVADO").

2. Baje fa palanca elevadora de montaje a la

posici6n de m&s abajo.

3. Ruede la correa de polea del motor (M) y

fijadors de la correa (G),

4. Retire et resorte de sujeci6n (K), deslice ta

abrazadera (L) hasta quitada, y saque a

presiSn la guia de Ia caja (P) hasta que se

salga deI soporte,

5. Retire el resorte del cable del embrague (Q)

det brazo deI engranaje (R).

6. Desconecte Ia pieza de unibn anterior (E) de

Ia cortadora - retire el resorte de contenciSn

y ia arandela,

7, Por uno de los lados de la cortadora,

desconecte el brazo de suspensi6n de la

cortadora (A) del chasis y Ia pieza de uni6n

posterior (C) de la barra posterior de la cor-

tadora (D) - retire los resortes de contenci6n

_ylas arandelas.

CUIDADO: Una vez que se desconecten las

piezas de uni6n posteriores, ta palanca e]evadora

funcionar& a resorte. Sujete con f_,lerzaIa palanca

elevadora al eambiarla de posici6n.

8. Deslice la cortadora pot debajo del tado

derecho del tractor.

IMPORTANTE: Si se monta un accesorio difer-

ente de! cortacL=spedal tractor, hay que quitar

el estribo frontal (E) ylos estribos traseros de

elevaci6n (C) del tractor yenganchar el resorte

de embrague (Q) en la guiadel cable en el borde

frontal del salpicadero m&s bajo.

INSTALE LA SEGADORA

AsegL_resede que el tractor se encuentreen una

superficienive]ada, y ponga el freno de mano.

1. Haga descender Ia patanca elevadora asu

FIJE LAS PIEZAS DE PROPULSION POS-

TERIORES (C) - Levante la parte posterior

de la cortadora, ubique la ranura de la pieza

de uniSn (D) por encima de la clavija que hay

en la barra posterior de la cortadora y fijela

con una arandeia y un resorte de contenci6n.

9. Retire el resorte de sujeciSn (K), desUce la

abrazadera (L) hasta quitarla, y saque a

presiSn la guia de la caja (P) hasta que se

salga del soporte.

10. Instale la correa pas&ndola por encima de Ia

polea del motor (M) y fijadors de la correa

(G).

6. FIJE LA PIEZA DE UNION ANTERIOR (E)

- Trabaje per el tado izquierdo del tractor,

introduzca eI extremo de la barra de Ia pieza

de uni6n por e] orificio anterior de Labarra de

suspensi6n anterior del tractor (F).

7. Introduzca el otro extremo de la pieza de

uni6n (E) en el orificio que se encuentra en

la barra anterior de la cortadora {H), y fiielo

pot medio de una arandela y un resorte de

contenci6n (J).

8. Retire el resorte del cable deI embrague (Q)

del brazo del engranaje (R).

IMPORTANTE: Verffique que la correa encaje

bien en todas las ranuras de Ias poleas de Ia

cortadora.

11. Suba la palanca elevadora a la posici6n de

m&s arriba.

12, Si es necesario, ajuste las rueditas del calibre

antes de poner en funcionamiento la corta-

dora, como se ilustra en el capitulo de Manejo

de este manual.

PARA NIVELAR LA SEGADORA

Aseg_rese de que los neumdticos est_n inflados

ala PSI que se indica en estos. Si estdn de-

masiado infiados o poco inflados, el c_sped no le

quedar& bien cortado, Io cual podrd llevado a pen-

sar que la S.EGADORA no estd bien regulada.

REGULAGION VISUAL DE LADO A LADO

1. 8i todos los neum&ticosestdn correctamente

inflados y el c_sped parece haber quedado

cortado desparejo, determine qu6 lado de la

cortadora estd cortando mds al ras.

2. Con una Ilave inglesa de 3/4" o de calibre

regulable, haga girar hacia Ia izquierda la

tuerca de ajuste de la pieza de unibn (A)

para bajar lado izquierdo[a cortadora, o bien

hagala girar hacia lado derecho la derecha

para subirla.

NOTA: Carla vuelta completa de Ia tuerca de

ajuste hard variar ta altura de ]a cortadora aproxi-

madamente 3/16".

3. Pruebe la regulaci6n realizada cortando

c_sped que ai3n no haya cortade y obser-

vando c6mo queda. Vuelva a ajustar, en

caso necesario, hasta obtener resultados

satisfactgrios.

REGULACION DE LA PRECISION DE LADO

A LADO

1. Con todos los neumdticos correctamente

inflados, estacione el tractor a nivel del suelo

o en la entrada a Ia casa.

CUIDADO: Las cuchillas son afiladas. Prot_-

.]aseIasmanos con guantes o envuelva-las cuchil ........................

/as con tela gruesa, o bien haga ambas cosas.

2. Suba la SEGADORA ala posici6nrods atta.

8. A ambos lados de la cortadora, ubique ia

cuchilla hacia un lado y mida la distancia (A)

que hay entre el borde inferior de la cuchilla

y el suelo, Dicha distancia debe ser ]a misma

a ambos Iados.

4. En caso que sea necesariorealizar un ajuste,

lea los paso 2 de las instrucciones de Regu-

laci6n Visual que aparecen mds arriba.

5. Vuelva averificar fasmedidas y ajuste nueva-

mente, en caso necesario, hasta que ambos

lados queden iguales.

AJUSTE DE DELANTE A ATR_,S

tMPORTANTE: El piso debe quedar bien nive-

lado de Iado a Iado.

Para que el c_sped Ie quede perfectamente

cortado, Ias cuchillas de la cortadora deben

ajustarse de taI manera que la punta anterior

quede 1/8" a 1/2" mds abajo que la punta pos-

terior cuando la corladora se encuentre en su

posici6n mds alta.

_I,CUIDADO: Las cuchiUas son afiladas. Prote-

jase las manos con guantes o envuelvaIascuchiI-

Ias con tefa gruesa, o bien haga ambas cosas.

• Suba la SEGADORA a Ia posici6n mds a[ta.

• Ubique cualquiera de las hojas de ta cuchilla

de tal manera que la punta quede apuntando

directamente hacia adelante. Mida la distancia

(B) que hay entre la punta anterior y el suelo y

entre la puntaposterior y el suelo.

Si la punta anterior de la hoja de la cuchilla

no estd 1/8" a 1/2" rods abajo que la punta

posterior, dirijase a la parte de adelante del

tractor.

Con una Ilave inglesa de 1t/16" ode calibre

regutable, afloje la tuerca A, d__ndole varias

vueftas para despejar la tuerca de ajuste B.

Con una Ilave inglesa de 3/4" o de calibre

regulable, haga girar Iatuerca de ajuste de la

pieza de uni6n anterior (B) en sentido horario

(ajustar) para elevar ]a parle de adelante de

Ia cortadora, o bien en sentido antihorario

(aflojar) para bajarla.

• Mantenga en la posici6n la tuerca de ajuste

por medio de una Ilave inglesa, y apriete bien

la tuerca contra dicha tuerca de ajuste.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CORREA DE IMPULSION

DE LA CUCHILLA SEGADORA

La correa de impulsi6n de la cuchilla segadora

se puede cambiar sin herramientas. Estacione el

tractor en una superficie nivelada. Enganche el

freno de estacionamiento.

REMOCION DE LA CORREA -

1. Remueva la segadora del tractor (Vea "PARA

REMOVER LA SEGADOR_' de esta secci6n

de este manual).

2. Haga salir la correa de las poleas del mandriI

y de las poleas de guia.

3. Tire la correa alej&ndola de Ia segadora.

[NSTALACION DE LA CORREA

1. Haga rodar Ia correa alredeor de ambas

poleas del mandrin y de las poleas-gufas.

2. Aseg0rese las correas esten en todas las

ranuras de las peleas y al interiortodas Ias

guiaS de Ia correa.

3. Instale Iasegadora (v6a" PARAfNSTALAR LA

SEGADORA" en esta secci6n de este manual).

MONTAJE DE LA CORREA

6. Asegt_rese de que la correa calce en todas

las ranuras de las poleas y dentro de todas

las gu_asy guardacorreas..

7. Instale laSEGADORA (Ver "PARA MONTAR

LA SEGADOP_' en este capitulo del manual).

IMPULSION DE MOVIMIENTO

Estacione el tractor en una supe_cie nive]ada.

Ponga et freno de mano. Si necesita asistencia,

deI lado de abajo del apoyapi6s hay una guia

pr&ctica para el montaje de Ia correa.

DESMONTAJE DE LA CORREA

1. Desmonte Ea cortadora (Vet "PARA DES-

MONTAR LA CO RTADOR_Len este capitulo .........

NOTA: Observe toda Ia correa de impulsi6n de

movimiento y Ia posici6n de todas las guias y

guardacorreas.

2. Retire la correa del pifi6n estacionario (A) y

del pifiSn de embrague (B).

3. Retire la correa det pi56n central (C).

4. Jale el cable de Ia correa hacia ta parte de

atr6s del tractor. Con mucho cuidado, retire

la correa de la polea de entrada de la trans-

mial6n, movi6ndola hacia arriba y pas_.ndola

pot encima de las paletas del ventilador (D).

5. Retire la correa de Ia polea def motor movi6-

ndoIa hacia abajo (E).

6. Deslice la correa hacia la parte de atrAs del

tractor, retlrela de Ia placade direcci6n (F) y

CONTROLAR Y AJUSTAR EL FRENO

Si el tractor exige m&s de cinco (5) pies para

pararse a una ve]ocidad m&s alta en el cambio

m&s alto en una superficie nivelada de hormig6n

seco opavimentada, entonces se debe controlar

y ajustar el freno,

CONTROL DEL FRENO

1. Aparoar el tractor en una supefficie nivelada

de hormig6nseco o pavimentada, presionar

el pedal del freno hasta et rondo y accionar

el freno de estacionamiento,

2. Desembragar ta transmisi6n colocando el

mando de la rueda Iibre en la posiciSn "trans-

misi6n desembragada", Tirar el mando de ]a

rueda libre fuera y dentro la ranura y softar

asi se coloca en la posici6n desembragada.

Las ruedas traseras tiene que bloquearse y pa-

tinar cuando se intenta empujar hacia ade!ante

el tractor manua]mente, Si las ruedas traseras

giran, es necesario ajustar el freno o sustituir

las zapatas.

PARA REMOVER LAS RUEDAS PARA

HACER REPARACIONES

1. Bloquee el eje en forrna segura,

2. Remuevala cubiertadel eje, elanillo de reton-

ci6n y Ias arandelas para permitir la remoci6n

de Ias ruedas (la rueda trasera contiene una

llave cuadrada - no la pierda).

3, Repare EaIlanta y vu@lvalaa montar,

AVISO; En lasruedas traseras solamente: alinee

las ranuras en e] cube de ta rueda trasera en el

eje. tnserte la Ilave cuadrada.

4, Vuelva a colocar las arandelas e inserte el

anilIo de retenci6n en forma segura en la

ranura del eje,

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR CON

UNA BATERiA BAJA

_v_DVERTENCIA: Las baterias de &cido-plo-

me generan gases explosives. Mantenga las

chispas, las llamas y los matedales para fumar

alejados de las baterias. Siempre use una pro-

tecci6n para los ojos alrededor de las bateHas.

Si su bateda est& demasiado baja come para

hacer arrancar el motor tiene que volverse a

cargar. (Vea "Bateria" en [a secci6n de Manten-

imientode este manual),

Si se usan "cables de empalme" para un ar-

ranque de emergencia, siga este procedimien-

to:

IMPORTANTE: Su tractor esta equipado con

un sistema de 12 volts, El otro vehiculo tambi@n

tiene que tenor un sistema de 12 volts. No use

la bater_a de su tractor para hacer arrancar a

otros vehlculos,

PARA ADJUNTAR LOS CABLES DE

EMPALME -

1. Conecte cada extreme del cable ROJO con e]

terminal (A-B) POStTIVO (+) de carla bateria,

preocup&ndose de no hacer cortocircuito en

el chasis.

2, Conecte un extreme del cable NEGRO con

el terminal {C) NEGATIVe (-)de una bateria

completamente cargada.

3, Conecto e[ otro extreme del cable (D) NE-

GRO con un buena CONEXION A TIERRA

DEL CHASIS, alejado del estanque de corn*

bustfble y de la bateHa.

PARA REMOVER LOS CABLES, INVIERTA EL

1. El cable NEGRO primero del chasis y fuego de

la bateria completamente cargada.

2. El cable ROJO at 51time de ambas baterias.

REEMPLAZAR LA BATERIA

te_ADVERTENCIA: No haga cortocircuitocon los

rminales de la bateria al permitirque una tlave

de tuercaocualquierotroobjetoentre encontacto

con ambos terminalesala misma vez. Antes de

instalarta bateria remueva las pulseras de metal,

los relojes de pulsera de metal, los anillos, etc.

El terminal positivetiene que conectarse primero

para evitar las chispas debido a la conexi6n a

6. Primero, conecte el cable de la bateria ROJO

con el terminal positive (+) con el perno

1. Limpie todo el tractor (vea "LIMPIEZ_' en Ia

2. Inspeccione y cambie las correas, si es nece-

sano (yea las instrucciones para e[ cambio de

lascorreas en la secci6n de Servicio y Ajustes

de este manual).

3. Lubriquelo, seg_n se muestra en Ia secci6n

de Mantenimiento de este manual.

4. Asegerese que todas las tuercas, los pernos y

los tornillos est_n sujetados en farina segura.

Inspeccione las partes movibles para verificar

si hay da_o, rotura o desgaste. C&mbietas si

es necesario.

5. Retoque todas superficies pintadas oxidadas

o picadas; aplique lija antes de pintar.

BATERiA

• Cargue ]a bateria completamente antes de

guardarta.

• Despu_s de cierto periodo de tiempo en alma-

cenamiento, la bateria puede necesitar volver

a cargarse.

• Para ayudar a eVitar la corrosi6n y las fugas

de potencia durante largos periodos de aima-

cenamiento, se deben desconectar los cab}es

de la bateria y se debe limpiar cuidadosamen-

te (vea "PARA LIMPIAR LA BATERIA Y LOS

TERMINALES" en Ia secci6n de Mantenimien-

tode este manual).

•Despu_s de limpiarla, deje los cables descoo

nectados y p6ngalos en donde no puedan

•Vaciar el dep6sito del carburante poniendo en

marcha el motor y dej&ndolo funcionar hasta

que el carburante termine el carburador est_

vacio,

• Nunca use !as productos para Iimpieza del

carburador o det motor en el estanque de

combustible pues se pueden producir daSos

permanentes.

• Use combustible nuevo la prOxima temporada.

AVlSO: El estabilizador de combustible es una

alternativa aceptable pare reducir a un minima

la formaci6n de dep6sitos de goma en el com-

bustible durante el periodo de almacenamiento.

Agregue estabilizador a la gasolina en el es-

tanque de combustible o en el envase para el

almacenamiento. Siempre siga Ia proporci6n de

mezcla que se encuentra en el envase del estabi-

tizador, Haga funcionar el motor par !o menos 10

minutos despu@sde agregar el estabilizador, para

permitir que L=ste]legue aI carburador. No vaciar Ia

gasolina del estanque de gasolina y el carburador

si se est,. usandoestabilizador de combustible.

ACEITE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con el motor caliente) y c&mbielo

con aceite de motor limpio. (Vea "MOTOR" en

[a secci6n de Mantenimiento" de este manual.)

CILINDRO(S)

1. Remueva]a(s) bujia(s).

2. Vacie una onza de aceite a trav@s del

agujero(s) de la bujia en el cilindro(s).

3. Gire la llave de ignici6n a la posici6n de 'Ar-

ranque" (Start}, per unos cuantos segundos

para distribuir el aceite.

4. Cambie par buj{a(s) nueva(s).

OTROS

• No guarde Ia gasolina de unatemporada a la

otra.

•Cambie el envase de la gasolina si se emp-

ieza a oxidar. La oxidaci6n y/o la mugre en su

gasolina producir_.n problemas.
