LIMITED TWO YEAR WARRANTY ON CRAFTSMAN POWER MOWER

For two years from date of purchase, when this Craftsman Lawn Mower is maintained,

lubdcated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance instructions in

the owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workman-

ship.

Ifthis Craftsman Lawn Mower is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty

applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

This Warranty does not cover:

• Expendable items which become worn dudng normal use, such as rotary mower

blades, blade adapters, belts, air cleaners and spark plug.

• Repairs necessary because of operator abuse or negligence, including bent

crankshafts and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions

contained in the owner's manual.

Warranty service is available by returning the Craftsman power mower to the nearest

Sears Service Center/Department in the United States. This warranty applies only

while this product is in use in the United States.

This Warranty gives you specific legal dghts, and you may also have other rights which

vary from state to state.

IMPORTANT: This cutting machine is capable of ampufating hands and feet and

throwingobjects. Failure to observe the following safety instructionscould result in

serious injury or death.

I. GENERAL OPERATION

•Read, understand, and follow all

instructionson the machine and in the

manual(s) before starting. Be thor-

oughly familiar with the controls and the

proper use of the machine before

starting.

•Do not put hands or feet near or under

rotating parts. Keep clear of the

discharge opening at all times.

•Only allow responsible individuals, who

are familiar with the instructions,to

operate the machine.

•Clear the area of objects such as rocks,

toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., which

could be picked up and thrown by the

blade.

• Be sure the area is clear of other

people before mowing. Stop machine ff

anyone enters the area.

•Do not operate the mower when

barefoot or weadng open sandals.

Always wear substantial foot wear.

• Do not pull mower backwards unless

absolutely necessary. Always look

down and behind before and while

moving backwards.

•Do not operate the mower with proper

guards, plates, grass catcher or other

safety protective devices in place.

•See manufacturer's instructionsfor

proper operation and installationof

accesaodes. Only use accessories

approved by the manufacturer.

• Stop the blade(s) when crossing gravel

drives, walks, or roads.

•Stop the engine (motor) whenever you

leave the equipment, before cleaning

the mower or unclogging the chute.

•Shut the engine (motor) off and wait

untilthe blade comes to complete stop

before removing grass catcher.

•Mow only in daylight or good artificial

light.

•Do not operate the machine while

under the Influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Never operate machine in wet grass.

Always be sure of your footing: keep a

firm holdon the handle and wall<; never

run.

•Disengage the selt-propelled mecha-

nism or drive clutch on mowers so

equipped before starting the engine

(motor).

•If the equipment should start to vibrate

abnormally, stop the engine (motor)

and check immediately for the cause.

Vibration is generally a warning of

trouble.

•Always wear safety goggles or safety

glasses with side shields when operat-

ing mower.

I1. SLOPE OPERATION

Slopes are a major factor related to slip

and fall accidentswhich can result in

severe injury. All slopes require extra

cautlan. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do

not mow it.

DO:

• Mow across the face of slopes: never

up and down. Exercise extreme caution

when changk_g direction on slopes.

•Remove obstacles such as rocks, tree

limbs,etc.

•Watch for holes, ruts,or bumps. Tall

grass can hide obstacles.

DO NOT:

•Do not trlm near drop-ads, ditches or

embankments. The operator could lose

footing or balance.

•Do not trim excessively steep slopes.

•Do not mow on wet grass. Reduced

footing could cause slipping.

IlL CHILDREN

Tragic accidents can occurif the operator

is not alert to the presence of children.

Children are of_ana_racted to the

machine and the mowing activity. Never

assume that children will remain where

you last saw them.

•Keep childrenout of the trimming area

and under the watchful care of another

responsible adult.

•Be alert and rum machine off if children

enter the area.

• Before and while walking backwards,

look behind and down for small

children.

• Never allow children to operate the

machine.

•Use extra care when approaching blind

comers, shrubs, trees, or other objects

that may obscure vision.

IV. SERVICE

•Use extra care in handling gasoline

and other fuels. They are flammable

and vapors are explosive.

-Use only an approved container.

- Never remove gas cap or add fuel

with the engine running. Allow

engine to cool before refueling. Do

not smoke.

- Never refuel the machine indoors.

-Never store the machine or fuel

container inside where there is an

open flame, such as a water heater.

• Never run a machine inside a closed

area.

•Never make adjustments or repairs with

the engine (motor) runnlt',g.Disconnect

the spark plug wire, and keep the wire

away from the plug to prevent acciden-

tal starting.

•Keep nuts and bolts, especially blade

attachemant bolts, tight and keep

equipment in good condition.

•Never tamper with safety devices.

Check their proper operation regularly.

•Keep machine free of grass, leaves, or

other debris build-up. Clean oil or fuel

spillage. Allow machine to cool before

storing.

•Stop and inspect the equipment if you

strike an object. Repair, if necessary,

before restarting.

•Never attempt to make wheel height

adjustments while the engine (motor) is

running.

•Grass catcher components are subject

to wear, damage, and deterioration,

which could expose moving parts or

allow objects to be thrown. Frequently

check components and replace with

manufacturer's recommended parts,

when necessary.

•Mower blades are sharp and can cut.

Wrap the blade(s) or wear gloves, and

use extra ca_ion when servicing them.

•Do not change the engine governor

Read these instructionsand this manual in

its entiretybefore you attempt to assemble

or operate your new lawn mower.

IMPORTANT: This lawn mower is shipped

WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in the

engine.

Your new lawn mower has been assembled

at the factory withthe exceptionof those

parts left unasssmbled for shipping

purposes. Toensure safe and proper

operationof yourlawn mower, all parts and

herdware yon assemble must be tightened

securely. Use the correcttools as neces*

sary to ensure propartightness. All parts

such as nuts, washers, bolts, etc., neces-

sary to completethe assembly have been

placed in the parts bag.

TO REMOVE LAWN MOWER FROM

CARTON

1. Remove loose parts included with

mower.

2. Cut down two end corners of carton

and lay end panel down flat.

3. Remove all packing materials except

padding between upper and lower

handle and padding holding operator

presence control bar to upper handle.

4. Roll lawn mower out of carton and

check carton thoroughly for additional

loose parts.

HOWTO SET UPYOUR LAWN

MOWER

TO UNFOLD HANDLE

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully so

as not to pinch or damage control cables.

1. Raise lower handle section to operat-

ing positionand squeeze the bottom

ends of lower handle towards each

other untilthe pin in handle can be

inserted into one of the three height

adjustment holes.

2. Remove protective padding, raise

upper handle section into place on

lower handle and tighten both handle

knobs.

3. Remove any packing material from

around control bar.

Your handles may be adjusted for your

mowing comfort. Refer to =ADJUST

HANDLE" in the Service and Adjustments

section of this manual.

HOWTO USEYOUR LAWN MOWER

ENGINE SPEED CONTROL

optVnurnperformance. Speed is not adjust-

able.

ENGINEZONE CONTROL

_,CAUTION: Federal regulations require

an engine controlto be installed on this

lawn mower in order to minimize the risk

of blade contact injury. Do not under any

circumstancesattempt to defeat the

function of the operator control.The blade

turns when the engine is running.

•Your lawnmower is equippedwith an

requiresthe operatorto be pesitloeed

behindthe lawnmowerhandle to startand

TO ADJUST cu'n3NG HEIGHT

Raise wheels for low cut and lower

wheels for high cut. Adjust cutting height

to suit your requirements. Medium

positionis best for most lawns.

•To change curing height,squeeze ac_uster

levertowardwheel. Move wheelup or

down_suityourrequirements.Besure all

whealsare in the same setting.

NOTE: Adjuster is propedy positioned

when plate tab inserts into hole in lever.

Also, 9-position adjusters (if so equipped)

allow lever to be positioned between the

plate tabs.

from under lawn mower handle.

3. Empty clippingsfrom bag using both

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE

ADD OIL

Your lawnmower is shipped without oil in

the engine. Engine holds 20 oz. of oil.

Fortype and grade of oilto use, see

"ENGINE" in Maintenance section of this

manual.

1. Be sure lawnmower is level and area

around oil fill is clean.

2, Remove engine oil cap and fill to the

full line on the dipstick. Pour oil slowly.

Do not over fill.

NOTE: Allow oil to settle down into engine

for accurate reading. To read proper level,

tighten engine oil cap, then remove it to

read the dipstick,

3. Reinstall engine oil cap and tighten.

• Check oil level before each use. Add

oil if needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.

•Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or each season. You may

need to change the oil more often

under dusty, dirty conditions.

ADD GASOLINE

•Fill fuel tank. Use fresh, clean, regular

unleaded gasoline with aminimum of

87 octane. Do not mix oil with gaso-

line, Purchase fuel in quantities that

can be used within 30 days to assure

fuel freshness.

AWARNING: Experience indicates that

alcohol blended fuels (called gasohol or

using ethanol or methanol) can attract

moisturewhich leads to separation and

formation of acids during storage. Acidic

gas can damage the fuel system of an

engine while in storage, To avoid engine

problems, the fuel system should be

emptied before storage of 30 days or

longer. Drain the gas tank, start the

engine and let it run until the fuel lines

and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel

next season. See Storage Instructionsfor

additional information. Never use engine

or carburetorcleaner products in the fuel

tank or permanent damage may occur.

_, CAUTION: Fill to bottom of gas tank

filler neck. Do not overfill. Wipe off any

spilled oil or fuel. Do not store, spillor

use gasoline near an open flame.

TO START ENGINE

NOTE: Due to protective coatings onthe

engine, a small amount of smoke may be

present during the initial use of the

product and should be considered

normal.

1. To start a cold engine, push primer

three (3) times before trying to start.

Use a firm push, This step is not

usually necessary when starting an

engine which has already run fora

few minutes.

2. Hold operator presence controlbar

down to the handle and pull starter

handle quickly. Do not allow starter

rope to snap back.

TO STOP ENGINE

•To stop engine, release operator

presence control bar.

NOTE: In cooler weather itmay be

necessary to repeat primingsteps. In

warmer weather over priming may cause

flooding and engine will not start. If you

do flood engine, wait a few minutes

before attempting to start and do not

repeat priming steps.

MOWING'rIPS

• Undercertain conditions, such as very

tall gross, it may be necessary to raise

the height of cut 1o reduce pushing

effort and to keep from ovedoading the

engine and leaving clumps of grass

clippings. It may also be necessary to

reduce ground speed and/or run the

lawn mower over the area a second

time.

•For extremely heavy cutting, reduce the

width of cut by ovedapping previously

cut path and mow stow|y.

•For better grass bagging and most

cutting conditions, the engine speed

should be set in the fast position.

•When using arear discharge lawn

mower in moist, heavy grass, clumps of

cutgrass may not enter the grass

catcher. Reduce ground speed

(pushing speed) and/or run the lawn

mower over the area a second time.

•If a trail of clippingsis left onthe right

side of a rear discharge mower, mow in

a clockwise direction with a small

ovedap to collect the clippings on the

next pass.

• Pores in cloth grass catchers can

become filled with dirt and dust with use

and catchers will collect less grass. To

provent this, regularly hose catcher off

with water and let dry before using.

•Keep top of engine around starter clear

and clean of grass clippings and chaff.

This will help engine air flow and

extend engine life.

MULCHING MOWlNGTIPS

IMPORTANT: For best performance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. See "CLEANING" in the

Maintenance section of this manual

•Avoidcuttingyour lawnwhen it is wet. Wet

grasstendsto form dumps and interferes

withthe mulchingaction.The best time to

mew your lawnis the eadyettemoon. At

thistime the grasshas driedand the newly

cutarea wil not be exp<_;edto the direct

sun.

• For best results,adjust _ lawn mower

cutting height so that the lawn mower cuts

off onlythe top one-third of the grass

blades. If the lawn is overgrown it wglbe

necessary to raise the height of cut to

reduce puchk_geffortand to keep from

overloading the engine and leaving

clumps of mulched grass. For extremely

heavy mulching, reduce your width of cut,

BLADE CARE

For best results, mower blade must be

kept sharp. Replace bent or damaged

blades,

TO REMOVE BLADE

1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with spark plug.

2. Turn lawn mower on its side. Make

sure air filter and carburetor are up.

3. Usa a wood blockbetween blade and

mower housing to prevent blade from

turning when removing blade bolt.

NOTE: Protect your hands with gloves

and/or wrap blade with heavy cloth.

4. Remove blade bolt by turning counter-

clockwise.

5. Remove blade and attaching hard-

ware (bolt, lock washer and hardened

washer).

NOTE: Remove the blade adapter and

check the key inside hub of blade adapter.

The key must be in good conditionto work

properly. Replace adapter if damaged.

TO REPLACE BLADE

1. Position the blade adapter on the

engine crankshaft. Be sure key in

adapter and crankshaft keyway are

aligned.

2. Position blade on the blade adapter

aligning the two (2) holes in the blade

with the raised lugs on the adapter.

3. Be sure the trailing edge of blade

(opposite sharp edge) is up toward

the engine.

4. Install the blade bolt with the lock

washer and hardened washer into

blade adapter and crankshaft.

5. Use block of wood between blade and

lawn mower housing and tighten the

blade bolt, turning clockwise.

•The recommended tightening torque is

35-40 ft. Ibs.

IMPORTANT: Blade bait is grade 8 heat

treated.

TO SHARPEN BLADE

NOTE: We do not recommend

sharpening blade - but if you do, be sure

the blade is balanced.

Care should be taken to keep the blade

balanced. An unbalanced blade will

cause eventual damage to lawn mower or

engine.

•The blade can be sharpened with a file

or on a grinding wheel. Do not attempt

to sharpen while on the mower.

•To check blade balance, drive a nail

Into abeam or wall. Leave about one

inch of the straight nail exposed. Place

center hole of blade over the head of

the nail. If blade is balanced, it should

remain in a horizontal position, If either

end of the blade moves downward,

sharpen the heavy end until the blade

is balanced.

GRASS CATCHER

• The grass catcherrnay be _ with

water, but mustbe dry when used.

•Ch_:_ your grass catcher often for damage

or deterioratien. Through normal use it will

wear. If catcherneeds replacing,replace

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

Use only high quality detergent oil rated

withAPI service classification SF-SJ.

Select the oil's SAE viscositygrade

according to your expected operating

temperature.

Change the oil after every 25 hours of

operation or at least once a year if the

lawn mower is not used for 25 hours in

one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each five (5)

hours of continuous use. Tighten oil plug

securely each time you check the oil

level

TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL

NOTE: Before tipping lawn mower to

drain oil, drain fuel tank by rUnning

engine until fuel tank is empty.

t. Disconnect spark plug wire from spark

plug and place wire where it cannot

come in contact with spark plug.

2. Remove engine oil cap; lay aside on a

clean surface.

3. Tip lawn mower on its side as shown

and drain oil into a suitable container.

Rock lawn mower back and forth to

remove any oil trepped inside of

engine.

4. Wipe off any spilled oil from lawn

mower or side of engine.

5. Fill engine with oil (see "ADD OIL" in

the Operation section of this manual).

6. Reconnect spark plug wire to spark

plug.

TO CHANGE AIR FILTER

1. Remove the air filter by turning

clockwise to the stop and pull away

from collar.

2. Remove filter from inside of cover.

3. Clean the inside of the cover and the

collar to remove any dirt accumula-

tion.

4. Insert new filter into cover.

5. Put air filter cover and filter into collar

aligning the tab with the slot.

6. Push in on cover and turn counter-

MUFFLER

Inspect and replace corroded muffler as it

could create a fire hazard and/or dam-

age.

SPARK PLUG

Replace spark plugs at the beginning of

each mowing season or after every 100

hours of operation, whichever occurs first.

Spark plug type and gap setting are

shown in =PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"

in Maintenance section of this manual.

CLEANING

IMPORTANT: For best performance,

keep mower housing free of built-up

grass and trash. Clean the underside of

your mower after each use.

_,CAUTION: Disconnect spark plug wire

from spark plug and place wire where it

cannot come in contact with the spark

plug.

•Clean the underside of your lawn

mower by scraping to remove build-up

of grass and trash.

•Clean engine often to keep trash from

accumulating. A clogged engine runs

hotter and shortens engine life.

• Keep finished surfaces and wheels free

of all gasoline, oil, etc.

• We do not recommend using a garden

hose to clean lawn mower unless the

electrical system, muffler, air filter and

carburetor are covered to keep water

out. Water in engine can result in

shortened engine life.

REAR DEFLECTOR

The rear deflector,attached between the

rear wheels of your lawn mower, is

provided to minimize the possibilitythat

objects will be thrown out the rear of the

lawn mower into the operator's mowing

position. If the rear deflector becomes

damaged, it should be replaced.

TO ADJ UST HANDLE

The handle on your lawn mower has

three (3) height positions- adjust to height

that suits you.

• Squeeze the bottom ends of lower

handle towards each other untilthe pin

in handle can be inserted into one of

the three height adjustment holes.

HANDLE

You can fold your lawn mower handle for

storage.

1. Loosen the two (2) handle knobs on

sides of the upper handle and allow

handle to fold down to the rear.

2. Squeeze the bottomends of lower

handle toward each other until pins in

handle clear the brackets and pivot

entire handle assembly forward and

allow it to rest on mower.

• When setting up your handle from the

storage position, the lower handle will

require manually locking into the

mowing position.

IMPORTANT: When folding the handle

for storage ortransportation, be sure to

fold the handle as shown or you may

damage the control cables.

FUEL SYSTEM

IMPORTANT: It is important to prevent

gum deposits from forming in essential

fuel system parts such as carburetor,fuel

filter, fuel hose, or tank during storage.

Also, experience indicates that alcohol

blended fuels (called gasohol or using

ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture

which leads to separation and formation

of acids during storage. Acidic gas can

damage the fuel system of an engine

while in storage.

1. Drain the fuel tank.

2. Start the engine and let it run untilthe

fuel lines and carburetor are empty.

•Never use engine or carburetor cleaner

products in the fuel tank or permanent

damage may occur.

•Use fresh fuel next season.

NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable

alternative in minimizing the formation of

fuel gum deposits during storage. Add

stabilizer to gasoline in fuel tank or

storage container. Always followthe mix

ratio found on stabilizer container. Run

engine at least 10 minutes after adding

stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to reach

the carburetor. Do not drain the gas tank

and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.

ENGINE OIL

Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace

with clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in

the Maintenance section of this manual).

CYLINDER

t. Remove spark plug.

2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through

spark plug hole into cylinder.

3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times

to distribute oil.

4. Replace with new spark plug.

OTHER

•Do not store gasoline from one season

to another.

• Replace your gasoline can if your can

startsto rust. Rust and/or dirtin your

gasoline will cause pmblerns.

• If possible, store your unit indoors and

cover it to give protectionfrom dust and

dirt.

•Cover your unit with a suitable protec-

tive cover that does not retain moisture.

Do not use plastic. Plasfic cannot

breathe, which allows condensation to

form and will cause your unit to rust.

IMPORTANT: Never cover mower while

engine and exhaust areas are still warm.

_I,CAUTION: Never store the lawn

mower with gasoline in the tank inside a

building where fumes may reach an open

flame or spark. Allow the engine to cool

before storing in any enclosure.

•Levantar la puerta trasera de cortacdsped y

colocar los ganchos del armazbn de la

recolectora de hierba en los pasadores del

quicio de la puerta.

• Para pasar a la opercai(_n de

acolchamiento, remover la recolec_ora de

hierba y cerrar la puerta trasera.

_PRECAUCI_N: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador de recortes o sin el

recogedor de c_sped, aprobados, an su Ingar.

Nunca trate de operar la segadora cuando se

ha removido la puerta trasera o cuando estd

un Ix)co abierta.

PARA VACIAR EL RECOGEDOR DE

C_SPED

1. Levante el recogedor de cdsped usando el

mango del bastidor.

2. Remueva el recogedor de cesped, con los

recorles, de debajo del mango de la

segadora.

3. Vacfe los recortes de la bolsa usando

tanto el mango del baslidor come dl de la

bolsa.

AVISO: No amastre la bolsa cuando la vac[e;

se producird un desgaste innecesado.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR EL

MOTOR

AGREGUE ACEITE

Su segador'a lue enviada sin aceite en el

motor. El motor puede contener 20 oz. de

aceite. Para el tipo y la calidad yea =MOTOR"

en laseccibn de las Mantenimiento en este

manual.

1. AsegOrese qua la segadom estd nivelada

y que el drea alrededor del depbsito de

acelte est6 limpia.

2. Remueva la tapa del depdsito de aceite del

motor y rellene haste la Ilnea de Ileno en

6sta. Vacle el acetie lentamiente. No Io

i]ene dernasiado.

AVISO: Permita que el acelte se aciente bien

an el motor para una leotura exacta. Pare leer

el nivel apropiade, apdete Tatapa del relleno

del acelte de motor, remuevala paneleer la

vadlla rnedidora del acede.

3. Vuelva a insta]ar la tapa del dep6sito del

aceite y apri_tela.

•Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.

Agregue aceite si es necesado. Llene haste

la IInea de Ileno en la varilla indicadora de

nivel.

• Cambie el aceite despuds de 25 horas de

operecide o una vez por temporada. Puede

necesitar camblar el aceite mds a menudo

cuando las condiciones son polvorosas o

sucias.

AGREGUE GASOLINA

•Llene el estanque de combustible. Use

gasolina regular, sin plomo, nueva y limpia

con el minimo de 87 octanos. (El uso de

gasoline con plomo aumentard los

dep6sitos de 6xido de plomo y carbono y so

reducird la duracibn de la valvula). No

mezcle el acelte con la gasolina. Pare

asegurer qua la gasoline utilizade sea

fresca compre estanques los cuales

puedan ser utilizados durante los primeros

30 dies.

_JADVERTENCIA;La experiecoia ha indicado

que los combustibles rnezclades con alcohol

(conocidos como gasoho[, o el use de etanol o

metanol) pueden atraer la humedad, la que

conduce ale separacibn y formaci6n de

_cidos durante el almacenamJento. La gasoline

acidica puede dafiar el sistema del combus-

tible de un motor durente el alrnacenamiento.

Para evitat los problernas con el motor, se

debe vaciar el sistema clef combustible antes

de guardado por un perfodo de 30 dies o rnds.

Vacle el estanque del combustible, haga

arrancar el motor y hdgalo funcionar haste

que las lineas del combustible y el carburader

queden vacios. La pr6xima temporada use

combustible nuevo. Vea las instrucciones para

El Almacenamiento pare rods informaci6n.

Nunca use productos de limpleza para el

motor opare el carburador en el estanque del

PARA HACER ARRANCAR EL MOTOR

NORA: Deblde alas capes protectoms del

motor, una cantidad peque_a de humo puede

ester presente durante el use inicial del

producto y se debe considerar no_mal.

1. Pare hacer arrencar un motor frio, empuje

el cebador tres (3) veces antes de trntade.

Empuje tirmemente. Este paso

norrnalmente no es necesede cuando se

hace arrancar un motor que ya ha estado

fucoionando por unos cuantos minotos.

2. Sujete la barra de contr_es que exigen la

presencia del operador abajo en el mango

y tire el mango del amancador

rdpidamente. No permita que el cordbn del

arrencador se devuelva abruptamente.

PARA PARAR EL MOTOR

•Pare parer el motor, suelte la barra de

contreles que exlgen la presencia del

operador.

AVISO: En climes rods frios puede que sea

necesario repetir los pasos del cebado. En

climes reds calurosos el cebar dernasiado

puede producir el ahogo y el motor no va a

arrancar. Si se ahoga el motor espere unos

cuantos minotos antes de tratar de hacedo

a_rancar y no repita los pesos del cebado.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR

• Bajo cle_s cor_liciones, tel como c6sped

muy alto, puede sar necesario el elevar la

altura del corte pare reducir el esfuarzo

montones de recortes de c6sped. Puede

•Cuando use una segadora con descarga

montones del c6sped cortado puedo qce no

entrenen el renogedor de cdsped. Reduzca

la velocidad del recorddo (velocidad de

empuje) y/o haga funcionar la segadom

sobre el ,_rea por segunda vez.

•Si queda ur_ huella de cortes en el lade

darecho de una, segadora con descarga

trasera, siegue en la direcoi_ en qua glmn

las manillas del reloj, solapando un peco

para recauder los recortes en la prbxima

pasada.

• Los poros en los recogedores de c6sped

de tela pueden Itenarse con mugre y polvo

con el uso y los recogedores recaudan_n

menos cdsped, para evltar dste, rcot'e el

recogedor con la marbguera de ague

regularmente y dejelo senarse antes de

usado.

• Mantenga la parts superior del motor,

aimdedor del a_'ancador, despejada y sin

recortes de cdsped y paja. Esto ayudar_ el

ltujo del airs del motor y extender_ su

doraci6n.

CONSEJOS PARA SEGAR Y

ACOLCHAR

IMPORTANTE: para obtensr el mejor

rendimiento mantenga la caja de la segadom

sin acumutacico de cesped y basura. Vea

"LtMPIF.ZA" in la sencion Mantenimiento de

este manual.

•La cuchilla acolchadora especial va a volver

a cortar los recortes de c_sped mUchas

vecos, y los reduce an tamel_o, de modo

qua si se caen en el c6sped se van a

disperser entre ds_ey no se Van acotar.

Tambidn, el crisped acolchado saw a

deshacer rdpidamente entregando

subs_anclas nutrith/aspars el cdsped.

Siempre acolche con la velocidad del motor

• Evite cortar el c_sped nuando est6 rnojado.

El c6sped mojedo tlende afon'nar montones

eintediere con ta accidn de acelchado. La

secado y el ;Ires reckoncortada no quedard

expuesta al sol directo.

•Pars obte_er los mo.iores resultados, ajusts

la altura del corta de la segadora de mode

qua _sta corte sdame_te el temio superior

de las hojas de c6sped. En el caso de qce

el cSsped hays creddo demaslado, puede

ser nenesario el elevar la altura del corte

pars reducir el esfuerzo necesar_o pars

empuJar la segadora y para evltar

sobrecargar el motor, dejando montones de

recortes de cdsped. Para un acolchamiento

muy pesado, reduzca el ancho del corte

posando por encima del lugar antedormonte

cortado y siegue lentamente.

•Cierlos lJpos de c_sped y sus condiciones

pueden exigir qce un drea tenga qua sar

acolchada ;)or segunda vez para oscondar

completamente los recortes. Cuando se

haga el segundo code, siegce a_'avesado o

en forma perpendicular ala pasada del

pdmer code.

•Cambie su patrbn de code de semana a

sarnana. Siegue de node a sur una semana

y luego cambie de ests a oeste la prbxima

semana. Esto evltard qua el cSsped se

enrede y cambie de direnci6n.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

Para obtener los mejores resultados, la

cuchilia de la segadora denen que mantenerse

afilada. Carnbie la cuchilladoblada o daSada.

PARA REMOVER LA CUCHILLA

1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y

pbngalo en donde no pueda entrar en

contacto con _sta.

2. Haga descansar la segadora en su lade.

Asegdrese que el filtm de aire y que el

carburader queden mirando hacia arnba.

3. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchina

y la caja de la segadera para evitar que la

cuchilla gire cuando se le quite el pemo.

AVISO: Proteja sus manos con guantes y/o

envuelva la cuchiila con una tela gruesa.

4. Remueva el perno de la cuchilla girdndolo

en el sentido contrario en que giran las.

manillas del reloj.

5. Remueva la cuchilla y los artlculos de

ferreterla adjuntadores (el perno, la

amndela de seguddad y la arandela

endurecida).

AVISO: Remueva el adaptador de la cuchilla y

revise el cubo interior de la ranura del

adeptador de la cuchilla. La ranura tiene que

estar en buenas condiciones pare que

funcione en forma adecuada. Cambie el

adeptador si estzi de5ade.

PARA CAMBIAR LA CUCHILLA

1. Poega el adaptador de la cuchilla en el

ciguefial del motor. Aseg0rese que la

ranura del adaptador y que el chavetero

del ciguefial est_n alineados.

2. Poega la cuchilla en el adaptador de dsta

alineando los dos (2) agujeros en la

cuchilta con las satientes elevadas en el

adaptador.

3. Aseg_3resede que el horde de salida de la

cuchilla (opuesto al borde afilado) esle

hacia arriba hacia el motor.

4. Instale el pemo de la cuchilla con la

amndela de seguddad y la arandela

endurecida en el adaptador de la cuchilla y

el ciguehal.

5. Use un bloque de madera entre la cuchilla

y la caja de la segadora y apriete el perno

de la cuchillagirandolo en el sentido en

que giran las manillas del reloj.

•La torsibn pare apretar recomendada es de

35 - 40 pies libras.

IMPORTANTE: El pemo de la cuchina es

clase 8 tratado a calor.

PARA AFILAR LA CUCHILLA

AVISO: No recomendamos el afilar la cuchilla -

pero si Io hace, asegt]rese de que quede

balanceada.

Se tiene que tener cuidedo de manteneda

batanceada. Una cuchilta que no estd

balanceada va aproducir evectualmente da5o

en ta segadora o en el motor.

•La cuchilla puede afilarse con una lima o en

una ruede rectJflcadora. No trate de afilarla

mientras se encuentra en la segadore.

•Para revisar el balance de la cuchilta, clave

un clavo en una riga o en la pared. Deje

almdedor de una putgade de un clavo recto

expoesto. Ponga el agujero central de la

cuchilla sobre la cabeza del clavo. Si la

cuchilla est_ balanceada debe permanecer

en la posici6n horizontal. Si cualquiera de los

extremos de la cuchilla se mueve hacia

abajo, afile el ex_mmo posado hasta que

dsta quede balanceada.

RECOGEDOR DE CESPED

•El recogeder de c_sped puede ser rociado

con el agua de la manguera pero tiene que

estar seco cuande se vaya ausar.

•Revise su recogedor de cesped a menudo

para vedficar si est_ daSado o detedorado.

Se va adesgastar con el uso normal. Si se

necesita cambiar el recogedor, c_mbielo

solamente pot uno que sea apmbado por el

fabdcante. Dr, el n_mero del rnodelo de la

segadora cuando Io ordene.

MOTOR

LUBRICACI(_N

Use solamente aceite de detergente de alta

catidad clasificado con la clasificacibn SF-SJ

de servicio API. Seleccione la calidad de

viscosidad SAE seg,3n su temperatura de

operaci6n esperada.

CALIDAO_S 0£ VISCOSIDAD DE SAE

AV|SO: A posar de que los aceites de

multiviscosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoren

el arranque en clima frio, estos aceites de

multiviscosidad van a aurnentar el consumo

de aceite cuando se usan el3 temperatures

solxe 32= E Revise el nivel del aceite del

motor mds a menudo, para evitar un posible

daf_o en el motor, debido a que no tiene

suficiente aceite.

Carnbie el aceite despuds de 25 bores de opera-

cibno por Io menos una vez al az3osi la segadora

Revise el nivel del aceite del carter antes de

anancar el motor y despues de cada cinco (5)

ho_as de uso continuado. Apdete el talx_ del

aceile en forma segura ceda vez que revise el

nivel del aceite.

PARA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR

AVISO: Antes de inclinarla segadora para

dmnar el aceite, drene el tanque de combus-

tible haciendo cower el motor hasta que el

tanque estd vacio.

1. Desconecte el alarnbre de la buj[a y

p6ngeto de rnodo que no pueda entrar en

coctacto con 6sta.

2. Rernueva la tapa del depbsito del aceite;

dejela a un _ado en una supedicie limpia.

3. Incline la cortadora de cesped por este

costado tal como se mueetra y purgue el

acei_e en un recipiente id6neo. Mueva la

segadora de arras para adelante para

remover todo el aceite que se haya

quedado atrapado dentin del motor.

4. Umpie todo el aceite derramade en la

segadore yen el lade del motor.

5. Rellene el motor con aceite. (Vea =PARA

AGREGAR EL ACEITE" en la seccibn de

Operacibn de este manual.)

6. Vuelva a conectar el alarnbre de la buj[a a

esta.

PAPA CAMBIAR EL FILTRO DE AIRE

1. Remueva el filtro de aire gir_ndolo an et

sentido en que gfrela de tas manil]as del

reloj para apretada, haste el tope, y retirelo

del collar.

2. Rernueva el filtJ'ode la parts interior de la

cubierta.

3. Limpie la parte intedor de la cubierta y el

collar pare remover toda acumulacibn de

rnugre.

4. Inserte el filtro nuevo en la cubierta.

5. Ponga la cubierta del filtro de aire dentro

del coltar alineando la oreja con la ranura.

6. Empuje la cub4ertahacla adentro y glrela

en el sentido eontrado de 1asrnani[lasdel

reloj para apretada.

LIMPIEZA

IMPORTANTE: Pare obtener el mejor

rendimiento, mantenga la caja de la segadora

sin acumutacion de cesped y basura. Limpin la

parle de abajo de su segadora despues de

cada uso.

• No recomendamos el uso de una manguera

de jard[n pare limpiar la segadora a menos

que el sistema eldctrlco, el silenciador, el

firm de alre y el carburador estdn tapados

para evitar que les entre el agua. El agua en

el motor puede acortar la duracibn de dste.

Se _un desviader 'tasem, a_unto entre

las nJedes_aseras de su segadora, pare reducir

a un minimola posibilidaclque objetossean

lanzados haciaafuera de la parte trasera de la

segadora,en la posJd6nen donde se encuenlta el

operador. Si se da_a el desviador debe carnbiame.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGO

El mango de su segadora cuenta con tres (3)

posiciones de altura - ajestelo ala altum que le

acomode.

• Preelone las extremidades infedores del

mando infedor una en contra una de la otra

hasta que la pinza del mango pueda ser

insertada en uno de los tres agujeros del

control de la altura,

2. Deelice los sujetadores de vinilo sobre el

bastidor.

AVISO: Si los sujetadores de vinilo estdn muy

duros, n_talos en agua caliente por algunos

minutos. Si se rnoja la bolsa, ddjela que se

seque antes de usada.

_.PRECAUCI_N: No haga funcionar su

segadora sin el desviador de recortes o sin el

recogedor de cesped, aprobades, en su lugar.

Nunca trate de operar la segadora cuando se

ha remm/ido la puerta trasera o cuando est_

un poco abierta.

CARBURADOR

Su carburador lJene un chorro principal fijo no

ajustable para controlar la mezcta. Si su motor

no estd funcionando en forma adecuada

debido a problemas que se sospecha vienen

del carburador, neve su ssgadora aun centro

de servicio Sears o con un otro centre de

servico cualificado pare repararla y/o ajustarla

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipulee el reguador

del motor, el que ha side ajustado en ta |agrica

para ta velocidad del motor adecuada, puede

ser poligroso hacer funcionar el motor auna

velocided por sobre el ajuste de atta velocided

de la fabrica. Si cree que la velosidad alia

regulada des motor necesita ajuste, pongase

en contacto con centro/departmento de

servicio Seam o con un otro centro de servico

cualificado mas cerano, el que cuenta con el

equipdo ade cuado y la expedencia para hacer

los ajustes necesarios.

VELOClDAD DEL MOTOR

La velocidad del motor ha side ajustada en la

fabrica. No tmte de aumentar ta velocidad det

motor pues se pueden pmdudr leelones

personales. Si cree que el motor est_

funcionando demasiado r'&pidoo demasiado

lento, Ileve su segadora a un centro de

servicio Sears o con un otro centro de servico

cualificado para reparade o ajustada.

SEGADORA

3. Asegdrese de que todas las tuercas y

clavijas y todos los pemos ytomillos est6n

apretados en foma segura. Inspeccione las

partes que se mueven para verificar el

est_ln dariadas, quebradas o desgastadas.

Cdmbietas si es necesario.

4. Retoque todas las superficies que estdn

oxidades o con la pintura picade; use una

lija antes de pintar.

MANGO

Puede doblar elmango de su segadora para el

almacenamiento.

1. Suelte las dos (2) manillas del mango en

cada lade del mango superior y permita

que el mango sa dobte hacia detras.

2. Apdete los extremos inferiores del mango

infedor entre si haste que el mango infeder

quede separado del puntal del mango,

luego mueva]o hacia adelante.

•Cuando prepare su mango a partirde la

posicioh de alrnacenamiento, el mango

inferior nesecitara cerrarlo manualmente

para la posicibn de sega.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando doble el mango pare el

alrnacenamiento o el transporte, aseg0resa

que Io doble seg_n se muestra o purde dariar

los cables de contml.

MOTOR

SISTEMA DE COMBUSTIBLE

IMPORTANTE: Es importante evitar que se

formen depositos de goma an partes

fundamenteles del sistema de combustible

tales como el carburador, el fittm dal

combustible, la manguera del combustible o an

el estanque durante el elmacenamiento. La

expedncia tambien endica que los

combustibles Mezclados con alcohol

(conocido ccrno gasohol o que denen etanbl o

metanel) pueden atraer hurnedad, Io

queconduce a la separacion y a la formacion

de acidos durante el almacanamiento. La

gasolina acdica puede denar el sistema de

combustible de un motor durante el pedodo de

almacenamiento.

1. Drene el estanque de combustible.

2. Haga arrancar el motor y deJelo funcionar

hasta que las Ifneas del combustible y el

carburador est6n vacios.

•Nunca use los productos para limpieza del

carburador o del motor en el estanque de

combustible pues se pueden producir daSos

permanenles.

•Use combustible nuevo la prbxima

temporada.

AVISO: El estabilizador de combustible es una

alternativa aceptable para mducir a un minlmo

la formacibn de del_sitos de goma en el

combustible duranta el periodo de

almacenamiento. Agmgue estabitizador ala

gasolina an el estanque de combustible o an el

envase para el elmacanamiento. Siempre siga

la pmporcibn de mezcla que se encuantra an

el envase del estabilizador. Haga funcionar el

motor por Io menos 10 minutos despu_s de

agregar el estabilizador, para permitir qua este

Ilegue al carburador. No drene la gasolina del

estanque de gasolina y el carburador si se

est& usando estabilizador de combustible.

ACEITIE DEL MOTOR

Drene el aceite (con el moto_caliente) y

c_mbielo con aceite de rnotot limpio. (Vea

=MOTOR" en ]a secci6n de Mantenimento de

este manual.)

CILINDRO

1. Remueva la bujla.

2. Vacle una onza (29 ml) de aceite atrav_s

del agujero de la buj[a en el cilindro.

3. Tire la manilla de arranque lentamente

unas cuantas veces para distribuir el

aceite.

4. Vuelva a montar la nueva bujla.

OTROS

• No guarde la gasolina de una temperade a _a

otra.

•Carnble el envase de la gasdina si se

empieza a oxider. La oxidad6n y/o la mugre

en su gasolina produciran problemas.

Si es posible, guarde su unidad en un recinto

cerrado y cdbrala para protegeda contra el

polvo y la mugre.

Cubt-a su Ur_ldadcon un forro protector

adecuade qua no retenga la humsdad. No

use pl_stJco.El plds_cono puede respirar, Io

qua permite la formaci6n de condensaci6n, Io

que produci_ la oxidaci6n de su unided.

IMPORTANTE: Nunca cubra la segadora

nientras el motor y las areas de escape

todavia estan calientes.

APRECAUCI_N: Nunca alrnacene la

segadora con gasolina an el estanque dentro

de un edificio en dende los gases pueden

alcanzar una llama expuesta o una chispa.
