is maintained,
lubricated, and tuned up according to the operating and maintenance
instructions in
the owner's manual, Sears will repair free of charge any defect in material or workmanship.

If this Craftsman Weedtrimmer is used for commercial or rental purposes, this warranty
applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.
This Warranty does not cover:
• Expendable
items which become worn during normal use, such as rotating lines,
belts, air cleaners and spark plug.
• Repairs necessary
because of operator abuse or negligence,
including bent
crankshafts
and the failure to maintain the equipment according to the instructions
contained in the owner's manual.

in effective working order by the operator.
In the state of California the above is required by law (Section 4442 of the California

federal lands. A spark arrester for the muffler is available through your nearest Sears
service center (see the REPAIR PARTS section of this manual).

The operation of any trimmer can result in foreign objects thrown into
the eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Always wear safety
glasses or eye shields while operating your trimmer or performing any
adjustments or repairs. We recommend standard safety glasses or a
wide vision safety mask worn over spectacles.
Only allow responsible
individuals,
who are familiar with the instructions, to
operate the machine.
• Stay away from breakable objects,
such as house windows, auto glass,
greenhouses,
etc.
• Clear the area of objects such as rocks,
toys, wire, bones, sticks, etc., which
could be picked up and thrown by the
spinning lines.
• Be sure the area is clear of other
people before trimming, particularly
small children and pets. Stop machine
if anyone enters the area.
• Wear appropriate clothing such as a
long-sleeved
shirt or jacket. Also wear
long trousers or slacks. Do not wear
shorts.

In order to prevent
accidental starting when setting up,
transporting,
adjusting or making repairs,
always disconnect spark plug wire and
place wire where it cannot contact spark
plug.

A CAUTION:
Muffler and other engine
parts become extremely hot during
operation and remain hot after engine
has stopped. To avoid severe burns on
contact, stay away from these areas.

• Do not wear loose clothing which could
get caught in this equipment.
• Do not operate the machine when
barefoot or wearing open sandals.
Always wear work gloves and sturdy
footwear. Leather work shoes or short
boots work well for most people. These
will protect the operator's ankles and
shins from small sticks, splinters, and
other debris, and improve traction.

I. GENERAL

OPERATION

• Read, understand, and follow all
instructions on the machine and in the
manual before starting. Be thoroughly
familiar with the controls and the proper
use of the machine before starting.
• Do not put hands or feet near or under
rotating parts.
• Keep all parts of your body away from
muffler and spinning line. A hot muffler
can cause serious burns.

crossing gravel drives, walks, or roads.
Wait for the cutting lines to stop
rotating.
• Stop the engine (motor) whenever you
leave the equipment and allow it to
cool, before cleaning, repairing or
inspecting the unit, Be sure the trimmer
head and aU moving parts have
stopped.
• Operate only in daylight or good
artificial light.
• Do not operate the machine while
under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Never operate machine in wet grass.
Always be sure of your footing: keep a
firm hold on the handle and walk; never
run.
• If the equipment should start to vibrate
abnormally, stop the engine (motor)
and check immediately for the cause.
Vibration is generally a warning of
trouble.
• Always wear safety goggles or safety
glasses with side shields when
operating
machine.
II. SLOPE

Tragic accidents can occur if the operator
is not alert to the presence of children.
Children are often attracted to the machine
and the trimming activity. Never assume
that children will remain where you last
saw them.
• Keep children out of the trimming area
and under the watchful care of another
responsible
adult.

- Never store the machine or fuel

Slopes are a major factor related to slip
and fall accidents which can result in
severe injury. All slopes require extra
caution. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do
not trim it.

WITHOUT OIL OR GASOLINE in the engine.
Your new trimmer has been assembled at the
factory with the excep'donof those parts left
unassembied for shipping purposes. All parts
such as nuts, washars,belts,etc., necessary
to complete the assembly have been placed
in the parts bag. To ensure safe and proper
operation of your trimmer, all parts and
hardware you assemble must be tightened
securely. Use the correct tools as necessary
to ensure proper tighthess.
When right hand (RH) or left hand (LH) is
mentioned in this manual, it means when
you are in the operating position (standing behind the handle).

and lay end panel down flat.
3. Remove all packing materials.
4. Roll trimmer out of carton and check
carton thoroughly for additional loose
parts.
HOW TO SET UPYOUR

IMPORTANT: Unfold handle carefully so as
not to pinch or damage control cables.

Loosen handle knob enough to allow
upper handle to be unfolded from the
shipping position.
2. Raise upper handle section into place
on lower handle and tighten handle
knob.

TO ADJUST TRIMMING

HEIGHT

_CAUTION:
Stop the engine and wait
for all moving parts to stop. Disconnect
spark plug wire from spark plug and
place wire where it cannot come in
contact with plug.
The height of cut can be set to six (6)
different positions ranging from 1-1/2
inches to 3 inches. Recommended
cutting
height for the average yard is 2 inches.

HOW TO USE YOUR TRIMMER

The engine speed is controlled by a
throttle located on the side of the upper
handle. FAST position is for starting and
normal trimming.

ENGINE

Your trimmer is shipped without oil in the
engine. For type and grade of oil to use,
see "ENGINE" in the Maintenance section
of this manual.
TRIMMER

• 1=CAUTION:
DO NOT overfill engine with
oil, or it will smoke on startup.
1. Be sure trimmer is level and area
around oil fill is clean.

HEAD DRIVE CONTROL

Your trimmer is equipped with a trimmer
head drive control bar which will require
the operator to be positioned behind the
trimmer handle to operate the trimmer.
• Trimmer head rotation is controlled by
holding the trimmer head control bar
down to the handle.
• Trimmer head rotation will stop when
the control bar is released.

Remove oil dipstick from oil fill spout.
Make sure that rim of spout is clean.

3. You receive a container of oil with the
unit. Slowly pour 3/4 (15 oz.) of the oil
from the container down the oil fill

Insert and tighten dipstick, then
remove it to check oil level.

5. Continue adding small amounts of oil
and rechecking the dipstick until it
reads futt. DO NOT overfill, or engine
will smoke on startup.

before starting engine.
• Check oil level before each use. Add oil if
needed. Fill to full line on dipstick.
• Change the oil after every 25 hours of
operation or each season. You may need
to change the oil more often under dusty,
dirty conditions,

TO START ENGINE
1. TO start a cold engine, push primer three
(3) _mes before trying to start. Use a firm
push. This step is not usually necessary
when starting an engine which has
already mn for a few minutes.
2. Move throttle control lever to fast position.
3. Hold upper handle firmly and pull starter
handle quickly. Do not allow starter rope
to snap back.
TO STOP ENGINE
• To stop engine, move throttle control lever
to stop position.
NOTE: In cooler weather it may be
necessary to repeat priming steps. In
warmer weather overpriming
may cause
flooding and engine will not start. If you
do flood engine, wait a few minutes
before attempting to start and do not
repeat priming steps.

ADD GASOLINE

• Set the throttle control in the FAST

• Fill fuel tank to bottom of gas tank filler
neck. Do not overfill. Use fresh, dean,
regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum
of 87 octane. Do not mix oil with gasoline.
Purchase fuel in quantities that can be
used within 30 days to assure fuel
freshness.

trimmer to remove any grass build up.

Alcohol blended fuels
(called gasohol or using ethanol or
methanol) can attract moisture which
leads to separation and formation of
acids during storage. Acidic gas can
damage the fuel system of an engine
while in storage.
To avoid engine
problems, the fuel system should be
emptied before storage of 30 days or
longer. Drain the gas tank, start the
engine and let it run until the fuel lines
and carburetor are empty. Use fresh fuel
next season. See Storage Instructions for
additional information.
Never use engine
or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel
tank or permanent damage may occur.

• Avoid stumps, stones, deep ruts, sharp
objects and other hazards that may cause

TRIMMER LINE
For best results, replace trimmer lines
when they have worn to half their original
length. Use .155 inch diameter trimmer
line. Cut new trimmer line length to 18-3/4
inches. After new line is installed on

This is important to make sure the trimmer
head is balanced and will not vibrate

1. From front of trimmer, place the end of
spooled trimmer line at the mark on
the side of the debris shield as shown.
2. Wrap trimmer line around front of
chassis cover to other side and cut at
the "22" mark

NOTE: Before tipping trimmer to drain
oil, drain fuel tank by running engine
until fuel tank is empty.

Use only high quality detergent oil rated
with API service classification SF-SJ.
Select the oil's SAE viscosity grade
according to your expected operating

possible engine damage from running

operation or at least once a year if the
unit is not used for 25 hours in one year.
Check the crankcase oil level before
starting the engine and after each five (5)
hours of continuous
use. Tighten oil plug
securely each time you check the oil
level.

be damaged by using a dirty air filter.
Replace the air filter every 100 hours of
operation or every season, whichever
occurs first. Service air cleaner more
often under dusty conditions.

TO CLEAN AIR FILTER
1. Loosen screw and tilt cover to remove.
2. Carefully remove cartridge.
3. Clean by gently tapping on a flat
surface. If very dirty, replace cartridge.
AGAUTION:
Petroleum solvents, such as
kerosene, are not to be used to clean
cartridge. They may cause deterioration
of
the cartridge. Do not oil cartridge. Do not
use pressurized air to clean or dry
cartridge.
4. Install cartridge, then replace cover
making sure the tabs are aligned with
the slots in the back plate. Fasten
screw securely.

CLEANING
IMPORTANT:
For best performance,
keep trimmer free of built-up grass and
trash. Clean the underside of your
trimmer after each use.
ACAUTION:
Disconnect spark plug wire
from spark plug and place wire where it
cannot come in contact with the spark
plug.
• Turn trimmer on its side. Make sure air
filter and carburetor are up. Clean the
underside of your trimmer by scraping
to remove build-up of grass and trash.
• Clean engine often to keep trash from
accumulating.
A clogged engine runs
hotter and shortens engine life.
• Keep finished surfaces and wheels
free of all gasoline, oil, etc.
• We do not recommend using a garden
hose to clean trimmer unless the
electrical system, muffler, air filter and
carburetor are covered to keep water
out. Water in engine can result in
shortened engine life.

TOADJUSTHANDLE
The upper handle may be adjusted to
different height positions.
• Loosen handle knob only enough to
allow the upper handle to pivot to the
desired position.
• Tighten handle knob securely.
NOTE: The handle knob and bolt may be
reversed for left handed operation.

3. Remove the two (2) screws on sides
of trimmer securing the debris shield.
4. Turn trimmer on its side with carburetor and fuel cap up.
5. Remove the two (2) screws on
underside of trimmer securing the
debris shield.
6. Slide the debris shield rearward and
remove.
7. Remove belt from engine pulley on
crankshaft.

Remove belt from trimmer head pulley.
Note the position of the control cable
and idler retum spring, then remove
idler assembly from chassis and
remove belt and idler from trimmer.
10. Remove belt from idler assembly by
removing bottom belt keeper and idler
pulleys.
11.Assemble
new belt, idler pulleys and
bottom belt keeper to idler bracket.
Tighten pulley bolts securely.
NOTE: Be sure belt is inside top belt
keeper on idler assembly.

12. Position belt and idler assembly in
trimmer, reconnect idler spring and
assemble idler to chassis.
13.Install belt around trimmer head pulley
and engine pulley.
14.Replace
debris shield and tighten the
four (4) screws securely.
15. Replace chassis cover and tighten
screw securely.
Always use Craftsman replacement parts
to assure proper fit and long life.

SPEED

Your engine speed has been factory set.
Do not attempt to increase engine speed
or it may result in personal injury. If you
believe that the engine is running too fast
or too slow, take your unit to a Sears or
other qualified service center for repair
and/or adjustment.
CARBURETOR

IMPORTANT:
Never tamper with the
engine governor, which is factory set for
proper engine speed. Overspeeding
the
engine above the factory high speed
setting can be dangerous. If you think the
engine-governed
high speed needs
adjusting, take your unit to a Sears or
other qualified service center, which has
proper equipment and experience to
make any necessary adjustments.

Your carburetor has a nonadjustable fixed
main jet for mixture control. If your engine
does not operate properly due to suspected carburetor problems, take your
unit to a Sears or other qualified service
center for repair and/or adjustment.

Immediately prepare your trimmer for storage
at the end of the season or if the unit will not
be used for 30 days or more.
TRIMMER
When trimmer is to be stored for a period of
time, clean it thoroughly, remove all dirt,
gmese, leaves, etc. Store in a clean, dry area.
1. Clean en'dre trimmer (See '_;LEANING" in
the Maintenance section of this manual).
2. Lubricate as shown in the Maintenance
section of this manual.
3. Be sure that all nuts, belts, screws, and
pins are securely fastened. Inspect
moving parts for damage, breakage and
wear. Replace if necessary.
4. Touch up all rusted or chipped paint
surfaces; sand lightly before painting.
HANDLE
You can fold your trimmer handle for storage.
• Loosen handle knob enough to allow
upper handle to be folded forward.
IMPORTANT: When folding the handle for
storage or transportalJon, be sure to fold the
handle as shown or you may damage the
control cables.

tank during storage. Also, alcohol blended
fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or
methanol) can attract moisture which leads to
separation and formation of acids during
storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel
system of an engine while in storage.
1. Drain the fuel tank.
2. Start the engine and let it run until the
fuel lines and carburetor are empty.
• Never use engine or carburetor cleaner
products in the fuel tank or permanent
damage may occur.
• Use fresh fuel next season.
NOTE: Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable
altemative in minimizing the formation of fuel
gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer
to gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.
Always follow the mix ratio found on stabilizer
container, Run engine at least 10 minutes
after adding stabilizer to allow the stabilizer to
reach the carburetor. Do not drain the gas
tank and carburetor if using fuel stabilizer.
ENGINEOIL
Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with
clean engine oil. (See "ENGINE" in the
Maintenance section of this manual).
CYLINDER
1. Remove spark plug.
2. Pour one ounce (29 ml) of oil through
spark plug hole into cylinder.
3. Pull starter handle slowly a few times
to distribute oil.
4.

Replace with new spark plug.

• Do not store gasoline from one season to
another.

I. OPERACI(_N GENERAL
• Antes de empezar, debe familiarizarse
completamente con los controles y el uso
correcto de la maquina. Para esto, debe leer
y comprender todas las instrucciones que
aparecen en la maquina y en los manuales
de operaci6n.
• No ponga las manos o los pies cerca o
debajo de las partas rotatorias.
• Mantener todas las partes del cuerpo lejos
del silenciador del escape y la Ifnea de
rotaci6n. El silenciador caliente puede
causar serias quemaduras.

• Permita que solamente las personas
responsables que est_n familiarizadas con
las instrucciones operen la m&quina.
• Mantenerse lejos de objetos que pueden
romperse, como cristales de casa, cristales
del choche, invemaderos, etc.
• Despeje el &rsa de objetos tales como
piedras, juguetes, alambres, huesos, palos,
etc. que pueden ser recogidos y lanzados
por las Ifneas giradoras.
• AsegSrese que el &tea no se hallen
personas, y particularmente niSos pequeSos
y cachorros antes de recortar. Pare la

cuerdas de corte paren de girar.
• Pare el motor siempre que tenga que dejar
el equipo, antes de limpiar, reparar o
inspeccionar la unidad. AsegtJrese de que la
cabeza de la recortadora y todas las partes

IL OPERACI6N EN PENDIENTE
Los accidentes ocurren con m&s frecuencia
en las cuestas. Estos accidentes ocurren
debido a resbaladas o cafdas, las cuales
pueden resultar en graves lesiones. Operar la
recortadora en cuestas requiere mayor
concentraci6n. Si se siente inseguro en una
cuesta, no la recorte.

• Puede recortar a tray,s de la superticie de
la cuesta, nunca hacia arriba y hacia abajo.
Proceda con extrema precauci6n cuando
cambie de direcci6n en las cueetas.
• Renueva todos los objetos extraSoe, tales
como guijarros, ramas, etc.
• Debe prestar atenci6n a hoyos, baches o
protuberancias. Recuerde que la hierba alta
puede esconder obst&culos.
NO:
• No recorte cerca de pendientes, zanjas o
terraplenes. El operador puede perder la
tracci6n en los pies o el equilibdo.
• No recorte cuestas demasiado inclinadas.
• No recorte en hierba mojada. La reducci6n
en la tracci6n de la pisada puede causar
resbalones.

• Mantenga a los niSos alejados del drea de la
siega y bajo el cuidado estricto de otra
persona adulta responsable.
• Est_ alerta y apague la mdquina si hay
niSos que entran al drea.
• Antes y durante el retroceso, mire hacia
atrds y hacia abajo para verificar si hey
niiSos pequehos.
• Nunca permita que los ni5os operen la
mdquina.
• Tenga un cuidado extra cuando se acerque
a esquinas donde no hay visibilidad, a los
arbustos, drbeles u otros objetos que
pueden interferir con su Ifnea de visi6n.
IV. SERVICIO
• Tenga cuidado extra al manejar la gasolina
y los demds combustibles. Son inflamables
y los gases son explosivos.
- Use solamente un envase aprobado.
- Nunca remueva la tapa del dep6sito de
gasolina o agregue combustible con el
motor funcionando. Permita que el motor
se enfffe antes de volver a poner
combustible. No fume.
- Nunca vuelva a poner combustible en la
mdquina en recintos cerrados.
- Nunca almacene la mdquina o el envase
del combustible dentro de algdn lugar en
donde haya una llama expuesta, tel como
la del calentador de agua.
• Alejarse de la zona de abastecimiento del
carburante antes de poner en marcha.
• Nunca haga funcionar una mdquina dentro
de un drea cerrada.
• Nunca haga ajustes o reparaciones
mientras el motor est6 en marcha.
Desconecte el cable de la bujfa, y
mant_ngalo a cierta distancia de _sta para
prevenir un arranque accidental.
• Mantenga las tuercas y los pemos,
especialmente los pemos del motor y de la
cabeza de recortes, apretados y mantenga
el equipo en buenas condiciones.
• Nunca manipule de forma indebida los
dispositivos de seguridad. Controle
regularmente su funcionamiento correcto.
• Mantenga la m&quina libre de hierba, hojas
u otras acumulaciones de desperdicio.
Limpie los derrames de aceite o combustible. Permita que la m&quina se refresque
antes de limpiarla o almacenarla.
• Pare e inspeccione el equipo si le pega a un
objeto. Rep_.relo, si es necesario, antes de
hacerlo arrancar.
• No cambie el ajuste del regulador del motor
ni exceda su velocidad.
• Limpiar y sustituir las calcomanfas relativas
a instrucciones y seguridad cuando
necesario.

Se pueden producir accidentes tragicos si el
operador no presta atenci6n a la presencia de
los nhSos.A menudo, los ni_os se sienten
atrafdos por la m_.quina y por la actividad de la
siega. Nunca suponga que los niSos van a
permanecer en el mismo lugar donde los vio

Lea estas instrucciones y eate manual
completamente antes de tratar de montar u
operar su nueva recortadora.
IMPORTANTE: Esta recortadora viene SIN
ACEITE O GASOLINA en el motor.
Su nueva recortadora ha sido montada en la
fabrica con la excepci6n de aquellas partes
qua se dejaron sin montar por razones de
envio. Todas las partes como las tuercas, las
arandelas, los pemos, etc., necesarias para
completar el montaje han sido oolocadas en la
bolsa de partes. Para asegurarse que su
recortadora funcione de forma segura y
adecuada, todas las partes y los articulos de
ferreterfa que se monten tienen que set
apretados firmemente. Use las herramientas
correctas adecuadas para asegurar un
apretado firme.
Cuando la mano deracha o la mano izquierda
estdn mencionadas en este manual, significa
que usted esta situado en la posici6n de
operador, detras del mango.

PARA REMOVER LA RECORTADORA DE
LA CAJA DE CART(_N
1. Remueva las partes sueltas que se
incluyen con la recortadora.
2. Corte las dos esquinas de los extremos de
la caja de cart6n y tienda el panel del
extremo piano.
3. Remueva todo el material de embalaje.
4. Haga rodar la recortadora hacia afuera de
la caja de cart6n y revisela
cuidadosamente para verificar si todavla
quedan partes sueltas adicionales.
COMO PREPARAR
SU RECORTADORA
PARA DESDOBLAR
EL MANGO
IMPORTANTE: Despliegue el mango con
mucho cuidado para no apretar o dafiar los
cables de control.
1. Aflojar la perilla del mango Io suficiente
para permitir el mango superior ser
desdoblado con respecto a la posici6n de
envt'o.
2. Levante la secci6n del mango superior
hasta su lugar en el mango inferior, y
apriete la manilla del mango.
3. Remueva la cuSa del mango que sujeta la
barra del control del cabezal de la
recortadora al mango superior.
El mango de su recortadora puedo ajustarse
seg_n le acomode para recortar. Refi_rase a
"AJUSTE DEL MANGO" en la Secci6n de
Servicio y Ajustes de este manual.

PAPA AJUSTAR ALTURA DEL RECORTE
_PRECAUCI_N:
Pare el motor y espere
hasta que todas la plazas m6viles se hayan
detenido completamente. Desconecte el
alambre de la bujfa de la bujia y p6ngalo en
donde no pueda entrar en contacto con 6sta.
La alture del corte puede ser fijada en seis (6)
diversas posiciones que se extienden a partir
de 1-1/2 pulgadas a 3 pulgadas. La altura de
corte recomendada para un cercado normal
es 2 pulgadas.
1. Para ajustar la altura del recorte, empuje la
aleta tabulaci6n de la placa de bloque y
mueva el cabezal de la recortadora hacia
arriba o hacia abajo a la posici6n deseada.
2. Suelte la aleta y asegdrese que el cabezal
este situado en una de las seis (6)
posiciones de la altura.

ANTES DE HACER ARRANCAR
EL
MOTOR
AGREGUE ACEITE
Su recortadora fue enviada sin aceite en el
motor. Para el tipo y el grado del aceite a
utilizar, vea el "MOTOR" an la seccibn del
Mantenimiento de este manual.
_PRECAUCI6N;
NO sobrellene el motor con
aceite, o fumarb cuando Io vana a arrancar.
1. AsegOrese qua la recortadora est6
nivelada y qua el drea alrededor del
depbsito de acoite este limpia.
2. Remueva la varila medidora de aceite del
tubo de desarga de aceite. AsegOrese que
el horde del tubo de relleno de aceite este
limpio.
3. Usted recibe un envase de aoeite con la
unidad. Vierta lentamente 3/4 (15 onzas)
de aceite en el tubo de relleno del motor.
4. Permita qua el aceite se asiente. Inserte y
apriete la varilla medidora de aceite,
despu_s remuevala para leer el nivel de
aceite.
5. ContinOe agregando cantidades pequeas
de aceite y vuelva a inspeccionar la varilla
medidora hasta qua lea Ileno (FULL). NO
sobrellene el motor con aceite, o fumar_
cuando Io valla a arrancar.
6. Aseg_rese de apretar la varil_amedidora
del aceite antes de arrancar el motor.
Revise el nivel del aceite antes de cada uso.
Agregue aceite si es necesario. Llene hasta
la Ifnea de Ileno en la varilla medidora de
nivel.
• Cambie el aceite despues de 25 horas de
operaciSn o una vez por temporada. Puede
necesitar cambiar el aceite rods a menudo
cuando las condiciones son polvorosas o
sucias.
GASOLINA
•Llene el estanque de combustible hasta la
parte inferior del cuello de relleno del
estanque de gasolina. No Io Ilene
demasiado. Use gasolina regular, sin
plomo, nueva y limpia con el minimo de 87
octanos. No mezcle el aceite con la
gasolina. Para asegurar que la gasolina
utilizada sea fresca compre estanques los
cuales puedan ser utilizados durante los
primeros 30 d/as.

_IbPRECAUCI(_N: Limpie el aceite o el
combustible derramado. No almacene,
derrame o use gasolina cerca de una llama
expuesta.
,APRECAUCI(_N:
Los combustibles
mezclados con alcohol (conocidos como
gasohol, o el uso de etanol o metanol) pueden
atraer la humedad, la que conduce a la
separaci6n y formacibn de dcidos durante el
almacenamiento. La gasolina acfdica puede
daSar el sistema del combustible de un motor
durante el almacenamiento. Para evitar los
problemas con el motor, se debe vaciar el
sistema del combustible antes de guardarlo
por un perfodo de 30 d[as o rods. Vacfe el
estanque del combustible, haga arrancar el
motor y hdgalo funcionar hasta que las tineas
del combustible y el carburador queden
vacios. La pr6xima temporada use
combustible nuevo. Vea las Instrucciones Para
El Almacenamianto para mds informaci6n.
Nunca use productos de limpieza para el
motor o para el carburador en el estanque del
combustible pues se pueden producir daSos
perrnanentes.

PARA HACER ARFIANCAR EL MOTOR
1. Para hacer arrancar un motor fifo, empuje
el cebador tres (3) veces antes de iniciar.
Empuje firmemente. Este paso
normalmente no es necesario cuando se
hace arrancar un motor que ya ha estado
funcionando por unos cuantos minutos.
2. Mueva la palanca de control de la
aceleraci6n a la posici6n mas r_.pida.
3. Sujete la barra de control superior y tire del
mango del arrancador r&pidamente. No
permita que el cord6n arrancador se
devuelva abruptamente.
PAPA PAPAR EL MOTO
• Para parar el motor,mueva la palancade
controlde la aceleraci6na la pesici6nde
parada.
AVISO: En climas m_r_s
frfes puede que sea
necesario mpetir los pasos del cebado. En clirnas

RECOMENDACIONES
GENERALES
La garantfa de esta recortadorano cubre los

Hay algunos ajustes que se tienen que hacer en
forma pedbdloa para poder mantener su unidad
adecuadamente.
Todos los ajustes en la secci6n de Sewicio y
Ajustes de este manual tienen que ser revisados
por lo menos un vez por cada temporada.
• Una vez al aSo, cambie la bujia y el elemento del
flltrode aire. Una bujia nueva y un elemento del
fiitrode aire limpio/nuevo aseguran la mezcla de
aim-combustible adecuada y ayudan a qua su
motorfuncione mejor y que dure m_ls.
• Siga el programa de mantenimiento en este
manual.
ANTES DE CADA USO
1. Revise el nivel del aceite del motor.
2. Revise si hay sujetadores sueltos.
3. Limpiar debajo de la tapa del motor.
LUBRICAClON
Para prolongar la vida de su recortadora, cambie
el aceit_ del motor como recomendadede esta
section de esta manual..
IMPORTANTE: No aceite o engrase los
rodamientos de la pJeda de pldstloo. Los
lubdcantes viscosos atraerdn polvo y mugre, lo
que acortard la duracibn de los rodamientos auto
lubriosntes. Si crse que se tienen que lubricar, use
solamente un lubncante tipo grafito, de polvo seco,
en forma moderada.

que pueden daSar alas Ilantas.
L[NEA DE LA RECORTADORA
Para un rendirniento6ptirno, reernplazar las
lineas de la reeortadora cuando se hayan
gastado hasta la rnitad de su largura original.
Utilice una linea de recortadora de 155 inch
de didmetro. Corte la nueva Zinea de la
recortadora de 18-3/4 inch. Tras instalar la
nueva Ifnea en el cabezal de la recortadora,
controle todas las Ifneas para que la diferencia
entre elias no sea mayor de un (1) inch. Esto
es irnportante para asegurarse de que el
cabezal de la recodadora est_ balanceado y
no vibre de rnodo an6rnalo.
_IbPRECAUCl6N: Utilice s61ola linea de
recortadora recornendada. No utilice otros
materiales corno cables, cuerdas, cintas, etc.
un cable podria rornperse durante el
funcionamiento y volverse un peligroso cohete
que podria causar heridas serias.
PARA CORTAR LA L[NEA A LA LONGITUD
APROPIA
NOTA: La Ifnea de la recortadora precortada a

PARA REEMPLAZAR LAS LJNEA DE LA
RECORTADORA
1. Desconecte el alambre de la buj{a y
p6ngalo de modo que no pueda entrar en
contacto con dsta.
2. Remover la flnea gastada de la placa
portante.
3. Plegar en dos la nueva linea cortada a la
rnedida e introducir la extremidad plegada
a trav_s de la placa podante abdendo el
lado trasero del clip del sujetador.
4. Con la extrernidad de la Ifnea plagada en el
lado trasero del clip del sujetador, empujar
la I_nea hacia afuera hasta que la linea
estd completarnente colocada debajo del
clip del sujetador.
5. Repetir en el otro lado de la placa portante.
6. Controlar las lineas para asegurase que
sean de la rnisma largura.
7. Vuelva a conectar el alambre de la buj{a a
_sta.

Si la Ifnea de la recordadora se compra a pot
mayor, debe ser cortada a 18-3/4 pulgadas
antes de usar. UtUicela rnedida de Iongitud
incorporada como sigue:
1. Del frente de la recortadora, ponga el
extrerno de la linea encanillada de la
recortadora en la mama en la cara del
blindaje de escornbros segl)n Io rnostrado.
2. Envuelva la Ifnea de la recortadora
alrededor del frente de la cubierta del
chasis a la ova cara y c6rtela en la marca
"22" (anchura de corte de su unidad).

MOTOR
LUBRICACION
Use solamente aceite de detergente de alta
calidad clasificado con la clasificacibn SF-SJ
de servicio APL Seleccione la calidad de
viscosidad SAE segt_n su temperatura de
operaci6n esperada.

PAPA CAMBIAR EL ACEITE DEL MOTOR
AVISO: Antes de inclinar la recortadora para
drenar el aceite, drene el tanque de
combustible haciendo funcionar el motor hasta
que el tanque est_ vacio.
1. Desconecte el alambre de la bujia y
p6ngalo de modo que no pueda entrar en
contacto con esta.
2. Remueva la tapa del dep6sito del aceite;
d_jela a un lado en una superficie limpia.
3. Incline la recortadora y hdgala descansar
en su lado y drene el aceite en un envase
adecuado. Mueva la recortadora de atrds
para adelante para remover todo el aceite
que se haya quedado atrapado dentro del
motor.
4. Limpie todo el aceite derramado en la
recortadora y en el lado del motor.
5. Llene el motor con aoeite (Vea "AGREGUE
ACEITE" en la secci6n de Operaci6n de
este manual).
6. Vuelva a poner la tapa en el dep6sito del
aceite.
7. Vuelva a conectar el alambre de la bujfa a
dsta.6sta.

SAE VISCOSITY GRADES

AVISO: A pesar de que los aceites de
multiviscosidad (5W30, 10W30, etc.) mejoran
el arranque en clima fifo, estos aceites de
multiviscosidad van ha aumentar el consumo
de aceite cuando se usan en temperaturas
sobre 32 ° F. Revise el nivel del aceite del
motor mds a menudo, para evitar un posible
dafio en el motor, debido a que no tiene
suficiente aceite.
Cambie el aceite despuds de 25 horas de
operaci6n o por Io menos una vez al afio si la
recortadora se utiliza menos 25 horas el afio.
Revise el nivel del aceite del cdrter antes de
arrancar el motor y despuds de cada cinco (5)
horas de uso continuado. Apriete el tap6n del
aceite en forma segura cada vez que revise el
nivel del aceite.

FILTRO DE AIRE
Su motor puede sufdr averfas y funcionar de
manera incorrecta con un filtro del aire sucio.
Sustituir el papel del cartucho una vez al a_o o
tras 100 horas de funcionamiento, mds a
menudo ei se utiliza en condiciones de
suciedad y polvo particulares.
PARA LIMPIAR EL FILTRO DE AIRE
1. Suelte el tornilloe incline la cubierta para
removerlo.
2. Cuidadosamente, remueva el cartucho.
3. Lfmpielo golpedndolo suavemente en una
superficie plana. Si est,. muy sucio cambie
el cartucho.
AqI=PRECAUCl6N: Los solventes de petr61eo,
tales como el keroseno, no se deben usar
para limpiar el cartucho. Pueden producir el
deterioro de dste. No aceite el cartucho. No
use aira a presi6n para limpiarlo o secarlo.
4. Instale el cartucho, luego vuelva a porter la
cubierta asegurdndose que las orejas
estdn alineadas con las ranuras en la
plancha trasera. Apriete el tornillo en forma

Cambie las bujfas al comienzo de cada

LIMPIEZA
IMPORTANT: Para obtener el mejor
rendimiento, mantenga la caja de la
recortadora sin acumulaci6n de c_sped y
residuos. Limpie la parte de su recortadora
despu_s de cada uso.
_PRECAUCl6N:
Desconecte el alambre de
la bujia y p6ngalo en donde no pueda entrar
en contacto con _sta.
• Haga descansar la recortadora en su lade.
Aseg0mse que el filtro de aire y que el
carburador queden mirando hacia arriba.
Limpie la parte inferior de su recortadora
rasp_.ndolapara remover la acumulaci6n de
c6sped y residuos.
• Limpie el motor a menudo para evitar la
acumulacibn de residuos. Un motor tapado
funciona a temperatura m_s alta y se acorta
su duraci6n.
• Mantenga las superficies limpias y las
ruedas sin gasolina, aceite, etc.
• No recomendamos el uso de una manguera
de jardfn para limpiar la recortadora a
menos que el sistema el_ctrico, el
silenciador, el filtro de aire y el carburador
est_n tapados para evitar que les entre el
agua. El agua en el motor puede acortar la
duraci6n de 6ste.

ADVERTENClA: Para evitar lesianes
serias ntes de dar cualquier semicio o de
hacer ajustas:
1. Pare el motor.
2. Aseg_rese que las Ifneas rotatorias y que
todas las partes movibles se hayan
detenido completamente.

PARA AJUSTAR EL MANGO
El mango superior puede ser ajustado en
diferentes posiciones de altura
1. Afloje la pedlla del mango Io suficiente para
permitir que el mango gire hasta la posician
deseada.
2. Apriete la perilla clel mango de modo firme.
NOTA: La parrilla y la pemo del mango pueden
set invertidos para las operaciones sobre el
lado izquierdo.

9. Observe la posici6n del cable de control y
del resorts de Ilamada del piton Ioco. A
continuaci6n remueva el conjunto del piton
Ioco del chasis y remueva la correa y el
piSon Ioco de la recortadora.
10. Remueva la correa del conjunto del pinion
Ioco al remover el fljador de correa inferior
y las poleas del pifion.
11. Monte la nueva correa, las poleas del
piSon Ioco y el fijador de correa inferior al
soporte del piSon. Apriete los pemos de la
polea con ssguridad.
AVISO: Aseg_rese que la correa est_ en el
interior del fijador de la correa superior sobre
el conjunto del pi_6n.

12. Instale la correa y el conjunto del piSon
Ioco en la recortadora, vuslva a conectar
un resorte del piSon Ioco y monte el pii_on
Ioco al chasis. Apriete con seguddad.
13. Instals la correa alrededor de la polea del
cabezal de la recortadore y de la polea del
motor.
14. Substituya el blindaje y apriete los cuatro
(4) torniUos con seguddad.
15. Substituya la cubierta del chasis y apriete
el tornillo con seguridad.
Utilice siempre las piezas de recambio Craftsman para asegurar un ajuste adecuado y una
vida larga.

MOTOR
VELOClDAD DEL MOTOR
La velocidad del motor ha side ajustada en la
fdbrica. No trete de aumentar la velocidad del
motor pues se pueden producir _esiones
personales. Si cree que el motor est_l
funcionando demasiado r&pido o demasiado
lento, Illeve su unidad a un centre de servicio
Sears o a un otro centre de servicio
cualificado para la reparaci6n y/o el ajuste.
CARBURADOR
Su carburador no es ajustabte. Si su motor no
est& funcionando en forma adecuada debido a
problemas que se sospecha vienen del
carburador, lleve su unidad a un centro de
servicio Sears o a un otre centre de servicio
cualificado para la reparaci6n y/o el ajuste.

Polea del cabezal de la recodadora

IMPORTANTE: Nunca manipulee el regulador
del motor, el que ha sido ajustado en la fabrica
para la velocidad del motor adecuada. Puede
ser peligroso hacer funcionar el motor a una
velocidad pot sobre el ajuste de alta velocidad
de la fabrica. Si cree que la velocidad alta
regulada del motor necesita ajuste, leve su
unidad a un centre de servicio Sears o a un
otre centro de servicio cualificado, el que
cuenta con el equipo adecuado y la
experiencia para hacer los ajustes
necesarios.

Prepare inmediatamente su recortadora para
el alma cenamiento al final de cada temporada
o si la unidad no se va a usar por 30 dias o
mds.
RECORTADORA
Cuando se va a guardar la recortadora por un
cierto pefiodo de tiempo, Ifmpiela
cuidadosamente, remueva toda la mugre, la
grasa, las hojas, etc. Gu_.rdela en un &rea
limpia y seca.
1. Limpie toda la recortadora (Vea
"LIMPIEZA" en la secci6n de
Mantenimiento de este manual).
2. Lubriquela segt_n se muestra en la seccibn
de Mantenimiento de este manual.
3. Asegerese de que todas las tuercas y
clavijas y todos los pemos y torniltos est_n
apretados en torma segura. Inspeccione
las partes que se mueven para vedficar si
est_.n daSadas, quebradas o desgastadas.

4. Retoque todas las superficies que est_n
oxidadas o con la pintura picada; use una
lija antes de pintar.
MANGO
Usted puede plegar el mango de su

almacemamiento, la gasolinadcideca puede na,,3ar
el sistema de combustible de an motor durante el
perido de alcamenmiento.
1. Drene el estanque de combustible.
2. Haga arrancar el motor y d_jelo funcionar
hasta que las lineas del combustible y el
carburador est_n vacfos.
• Nunca use los productos pard limpieza del
carburader o del motor an el estanque de
combustible pues se pueden producir dar3os
permanentes.
• Use combustible nuevo la pnSximatemporada.
AMISO: El estabilizador de combustible es una
alternativa aceptable para reducir a un minimo
la formacibn de depbsitos de goma en el
combustible durante el periodo de
almacenamiento. Agregue estabilizador a la
gasolina en el estanque de combustible o en el
envase para el almacenamiento. Siempre siga
la proporci6n de mezcla que se encuentra en
el envase del estabilizador. Haga funcionar el
motor pot Io menos 10 minutos despu6s de
agregar el estabilizador, para permitir que este
Ilegue al carburador. No drene la gasolina del
estanque de gasolina y el carburador si se
estd usando estabilizador de combustible.
ACEITE DEL MOTOR
Drene el aceite (con el motorcaliente)y cdmbielo
con aceite de motor limpio.(Vea "MOTOR" en la
secci6nde Mantanimentode este manual.)

2. Vacie una onza (29 ml) de aceite a traves
del agujero de la bujia en el cilindm.
